Have you ever been bullied in Sephora by a sales rep??? I have! I actually had the worst customer service/experience in the skin care department!!! I was actually bullied in the store with the skin sales person named Cary. I went into Sephora mid-day on a Wednesday when there were virtually no customers in the store. I was referred to Cary in the skincare department to suggest a moisturizer. He was arrogant, slow, distant and clearly did not want to help. He bullied me into giving my my personal email address and phone number, before allowing me to sample a product. He demanded for the information before helping me and said if he did not have my personal information, he could not allow me to try the product. I told him I was not comfortable giving him my personal information, and then he said this was "Sephora's new Policy and "oh well", shrugged his shoulders and said I could leave. I can't quite believe Sephora is hiring sales reps to "bully" customers. It was a horrible experience. It is very clear that Cary would prefer to stand around an empty store than help a customer that was sincerely looking a good recommendation for a moisturizer. I have had very good experiences in nearby department stores on the Promenade such as Bloomingdales and Nordstroms that carry a wide selection and do not demand personal phone numbers and emails when allowing a customer to sample a product. I am sure I am not the only one that was bullied and had poor customer service from Cary, as he had a very careless detached attitude that could not be bothered in helping a customer. She made me feel absolutely flawless and beautiful. I wish tips would have been allowed, as I wanted to thank her for my service. Worst sephora ever! The make up artists swear they are God's gift to Earth. Not helpful at all, they need to humble themselves and learn what helping a customer entails of. I asked one of the artists to help me pick a product for my eyebrows so they can kind of match my blonde hair (I am not a natural blonde and my eyebrows are dark). I've heard nothing but great things about the Anastasia products and thought I would visit Sephora for help. The make up artist looked at me up and down and told me that I would look weird with a lighter color on my dark brows. I reiterated to her that I didn't want a drastic change just a slight touch of brown or something. She looked very frustrated and didn't bother explaining to me how the products worked or offered alternatives. I went in there to get more of my foundation. But also had a question. This was right after the madness of Christmas & a little before New Years, but that doesn't mean anything these days, especially when it comes to make up. They had a bunch of their people walking the floor asking if I had questions or needed a basket. None of them could answer my questions. The last person told me to go to the make up counter and one of the ladies would be happy to assist or answer my question. I went there & wasted 10 minutes, while there were either two ladies up there & one young gentlemen assisted or doing make up and not one of them acknowledged me or seemed bothered I was there staring at them. Every time someone walked up there or interrupted, they all seemed really annoyed and bothered. Oh My God, that was it! Bothered to do your job? Or just bothered because it was obvious you didn't want to be there. Whatever the case, none of them had any good customer service or people skills. Anyhow, I dropped my stuff abruptly on the counter, while they looked at me like I was crazy and walked out. I needed makeup for a wedding that I was a bridesmaid for. I usually go to MAC and pick up a few things and then be on my way. I vowed my loyalty to MAC for years but these past ones, I started to sway more towards Sephora. Naturally, as any unsure person would, I walked in cautiously but knew that I needed to strike with precision and get out as fast as I could. The only reason I say that is because my experience at Sephora has been that customer service is awful (Here's looking at you Hollywood and Americana). I came after work and decided that maybe I'll try a Lancome product but soon everything in the store overwhelmed me and I decided to ask one of the sales associates for help. She sat me at the beauty bar and introduced me to my new savior for makeup, Carla. I told Carla the kind of look I wanted to go for as an everyday thing and that I didn't want to leave with a hole in my wallet. She smiled, came back with products and soon she did her thing. She made me feel VERY comfortable and she kept telling me that if I didn't like what she was suggesting than to let her know. The makeup wasn't heavy and I looked brighter (driving 40 miles for work will suck the life out of you). Not only did Carla give me exactly what I wanted but she kept suggesting things to me. She didn't overwhelm me with suggestions and she also didn't make it look like she just wanted to sell products (again, looking at you Hollywood and Americana), she truly wanted you to have the best experience and had an answer to any question I threw her way. She gave me great makeup tips, especially on the go! In the end, there wasn't a hole in my wallet and I left a very happy customer. Sephora is every pretty girl and pretty guy's dream. Although I only wear make up 2-3 times a week, I still love to browse around freely and walk around this place in circles and circles. So why Sephora. Well it's like a mini department store of make up except you don't have sales people in each department watching over you and asking you if you need any assistance. Also if you can't afford to buy lets say expensive MAC brushes, I think Sephora brushes are not bad either. I like their perfume section a lot. Ladies fragrances are located on your left and mens on the right. [my favorite fragrance is Marc Jacob's Daisy] Overall, I was left with a really good impression. The store was closing and people were doing clean up but they allowed me to take my time, so it was very inviting. I expected them to ask me to leave.......... With all the 5 stars reviews on this Sephora location - I've must've came in on an off day or all the helpful associates were off that day. No one greeted me at the door, the two associates standing by the front area were busy chatting with each other. I had to chase down an associate to ask her if the VIB 20% off sale was still on and she acted like I was a nuisance by stopping her to ask a question. All the associates that walked by me had a blank, miserable look on their faces like they were forced to work there - no smiles or stopping to ask if I needed help. I looped around the store 3 times until I finally found the ABH section. I wanted to stock up that evening and get some new concealers, foundation and matte lip glosses however no one was willing to help. The store was relatively dead too except for the check out which was busy. All the associates were either too busy socializing with their co-workers or just aimlessly walking around the store pretending to look "busy". This store is a complete waste of time. As others have mentioned this Sephora has crappy customer service. I went in on a non-busy hour and all the associates were just standing around chit chatting. They don't approach customers, you have to chase them. I saw some ladies that were being productive, but most were not. I was greeted pleasantly by a male greeter, but he handed me off to the most unpleasant person in the store. She was far from polite and I'm suprised because I hardly ever encounter associates with attitude, but you always have the girls that act like they're doing makeup for NY Fashion Week runway shows. Path McGrath ain't got shit on them. Her makeup wasn't on point, but I was willing to let her help me. She assisted me with bad attitude the whole time. One of the worst Sephora experiences by far. So ladies and gents, if you wanna run behind a sales associate with your questions or need for assistance with a side of bad attitude, then this is your store. I went to return an eyeliner I didn't like that I bought over 30 days ago and no questions were asked. They just refunded me the money. My second time at Sephora (first time was just a walk-through at Stanford Mall Sephora with daughter), my husband and I came here because I needed a last minute makeup job for an important party, and other places were booked. All I asked was someone to show me how to do "cat-eyes" but on a Saturday night the door greeter said they were too busy. When a nice saleslady came by to ask if we needed anything, I repeated my request and the sweetie said she'd see if someone could squeeze me in. Guinevieve of Christian Dior played fairy godmother, and not only did my eyes but full face! She is half my age but made me look and feel like a confident sparkle princess. I do like Sephora, but I avoid it at the same time. I just don't want to get lost in the ocean of cosmetics, to return to consciousness later, after spending everything in my bank account. So. That said, I wandered into the mouse trap of Sephora the other day, like a bushy tailed little mousy. Eyes wide open, I went right up to the new "express" counter. I had a "wine and cheese" event to go to that night, and thought: "maybe I should go to Sephora to have a makeover". The guy who did my makeup was a sweetheart, but completely did not listen to what I said at all. Admittedly, I chose the "smoky eye" look. My first step into the mishap of makeup. See, I had this "Angelina Jolie" look going on in my thought process, not "Tammy Faye Baker". I told him (the sweetie makeup artist) I just turned 39 this month, and also said "I have lots of tiny wrinkles that no one can see but me", BUT "pleeease don't gob on the mascara, and keep the raccoon look away from my lower lids. I NEVER wear dark eyeshadow UNDER my eyes, simply because I already have dark circles from lack of sleep (3 children). Do NOT make me look old, and do NOT put too much on. Keep it light. Daytime wear. Got it"? The sweetie that he was, he did start out light and natural, but as he moved on to the under eye, he loaded it up with gray and black shadow. Lots of shadow and dark raccoon eyes with gobs of mascara was what I ended up with. Lovely. Now I look like a psycho mom that's having a mid-life crisis, trying to re-live her back-in-the-80s days. They were even playing Blondie's "Heart of Glass" and I swear I felt like I was 10 years old rollerskating again, but this time I got into my mom's make-up and did my best "I'm a Charlie's Angel" face. I walked around the store afterwards, using every available do-it-yourself mirror and used many eyeshadow applicators and sponges to remove the eyeshadow. I smudged, I smeared, I wiped off tons of shadow, but I still looked like a Tim Burton cartoon character. Could I be an extra in Beetlejuice? Was I going Goth in my late 30s? I bought some light and sunny shimmer powder for my face and some peachy lipstick, and left. Off to wash my face at home! Or so I thought. I had to call my husband on his cell and warn him about what happened. He said: "I'll meet you in Banana Republic". Oh. Goodness. So, yes, I trolleyed along to BR, where I planned to find something pretty to wear to the evening's soiree, and as I walked by every mirror in the place, I gasped in horror at my face. Silently of course. I wouldn't want anyone to think I was weirder than I already looked. What was classic was the look of question/amusement on my husband's face. He took a few glances, and tried not to laugh. Then. The bigger "oh no" moment was my 1 year old daughter's puzzled look when she saw... Goth-mommy. AMAZING EXPERIENCE!!!!!!! I booked a consultation with Carla, I wanted to learn an everyday makeup routine. I never wear makeup to work, but I wanted to start, but I had no idea what to do :/ she spent almost two hours with me showing me how to apply makeup. I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to replicate it without her, but to my surprise what she taught me stuck, and the next day I was able to do the basics on myself (definitely not to her level - that will take time) but since our appointment I've put on makeup ever day for work! This Sephora is awful. I live close by so this is the location I usually go to, but I might have to just suck it up and drive farther bc this one is such a waste of time. They're always out of stock of colors in multiple brands- I have a pretty average skin tone and they didn't have my color in 3 separate brands! And this was just today-last time they were out too which is why I had to come back this time. It's called restocking, managers. Of all the mirror stations, maybe half are stocked with all the sponges, cotton pads, applicators etc. The rest are empty or have some dirty Kleenex laying around. The lighting in the store is also terrible!! For a makeup store, they really need to fix this. I've bought makeup here only to get home and test it under actual good lighting and say WTF. 2 stars instead of 1 because the salespeople are nice and helpful overall. This sephora is 5 stars for two reasons, and their names are Julian and McCall... The fragrance gurus. You seriously have to go in just to have McCall give you her fragrance diagnosis and "personality test"... she asks you the most random questions that seem to have nothing to do with perfume and then selects which scents she thinks would suit you. She sent me home with several samples to try and I'm in love with the fragrance I ended up choosing- coincidentally her top suggestion for me. Julian is a scent genius. I doubt anyone is out there who knows more. I am extremely picky about perfume and he was amazing at walking me through the differen options based on my preferences in the most patient and understanding way. McCall considers herself Julian's protege-- they are both stellar in their own ways! Buying a fragrance will never be the same thanks to these two! read more

Hm, Sephora on the Promenade moved locations (same street but further north). Now it's closer to Banana Republic and J. Crew. I went in for the six-pan shadow holder from Stila and fortunately for me that day, there was a Stila rep who explained they no longer supplied that to Sephora stores. She suggested I buy it online or at Fred Segal's. The store was extremely busy and looking somewhat ragged even for its new location. It also seemed smaller than before. Otherwise, no one at Sephora actually greeted me and I left before I could be trampled by gay makeup artists and hordes of glitterfied tweens. read more

This location is bigger than the Westfield Culver City store. The employees are friendly, knowledgeable about make-up. They even had demonstrations for those who wanted to learn more on applying make-up, etc. Even though parking is a bit difficult, it is worth the trek over there. I had trouble finding a new mascara that I literally tried three different brands and exchanged two in a period of less than two weeks and they did not make it a hassle exchanging and trying something else. This is one of the bigger Sephora stores I've been to in LA. It definitely has a larger selection of brands than some of the others. I found everything I needed....okay, not NEEDED, but wanted. The staff was super friendly. I wasn't dressed particularly well since I had just come from a yoga class, but they were just as helpful to me as they were to the woman next to me with the huge Chanel bag wearing more makeup that Tammy Faye. My only complaint is with the testers. They were, to put it politely, a tad dirty. Unless you want some sort of disease, I would advise staying away from them read more

He approached me to make sure everything was going fine and I casually asked him a question about dry skin. He asked me what I wash my face with and he knew it was too drying for my already dry skin. This Sephora is in a GREAT location, and who doesn't love a huge make up store?! Sephora is the ultimate playground, and I'm always SO excited when I run into one. That being said, THIS sephora, while being in a great location left MUCH to be desired in the customer service department. I usually know that when I go to Sephora that I must research the product that I want to buy before I go in but have never gone into a Sephora where the staff walks right by you talking to each other and doesn't even look in your direction. When I found what I was looking for and went to the counter I mentioned to my husband how there were about 3 workers standing around chit chatting and I had seen several customers that could have been helped. The female at the counter just stared at me with out asking to make sure that everything was ok, knowing that I obviously wasn't satisfied with their level of service. Matthew is a color genius! He found me the correct under eye concealer color- my life long battle! I need a natural look for work and every time someone does my make up I end up feeling like I am going clubbing. Matthew listened to me and gave me a natural look. He explained everything he was using on me and why the color/technique was right for me. He is a true artist and not a pushy sales person. This is a fantastic Sephora. There is always a friendly greeter to help you as soon as you walk through the door. She immediately called a sales person over that helped me find all the products I was looking for. This store is huge, so they stock everything. Sephora allows you to sample most of their products. They will even make a sample for you to take home, so you can try it for days without purchasing it. They have a great return policy, so if a product isn't to your liking you can always return it. They also have professional make up artists that will do your face. I love the Caudalie line and the Tarte line. I also like the Bliss line and the Josie Maran line. This is a great store for all your beauty needs. Free 90 minute parking in any of the public structures. It is a pain in the butt. No quick runs to the store because of the parking situation. read more

But every time I've TRIED to find something here (I work a block away), the makeup section is a friggin' disaster area. That is, if there is anything there. Stopped in today to get some perfume, blush and eyebrow powder. I cant use pencil, I am a natural redhead and it is very hard to find a good match. So I usually blend two different powders and use an eyebrow brush. Thank God for Sephora for helping me with my redhead struggles! I found a brow powder duo by Anastasia, Auburn that is perfect! Christopher and Matthew helped me to find a great blush. Lala was AWESOME! IF you are in need of perfume, she is your expert. She really took her time with me and helped me find a great fragrance. She knows her stuff! This store was mad packed and kind of chaotic, hence the four star rating. Maybe it was the holiday rush, I dunno. I just love this store. Sephora stores are always well lit smell great and have lots of enticing and fun products to check out and buy. There is always a host/greeter at the door with baskets and ready to help. They have ample make-up artists/sales associates who are knowledgeable and friendly. I breeze in and out because I know the layout of the store but if you need guidance or suggestions go ahead and ask! The Beauty Insider program is great too.
