I was at the mall with some friends and decided to go into this Sephora location. When we walked in, there was this one employee that kept following us around, not saying anything. We went to the other side of the store to see if she would follow us and she came asking if we needed help. We left the store shortly after. We all felt like she was acting/thinking like we were going to steal something. We came back a few minutes later and as we were walking around in the front, we heard that same employee talking about us with another one pointing and staring at us. read more

So my birthday was this passed Friday and my makeup artist cancelled on me the same morning I came to sephora to see if they had any availability to get my makeup done there. I spoke to Cali and she informed me that there were no appointments available for the day, which was not surprising to me because I did come in last minute. However, she did let me know that she had time to give me a 15 mini makeover and I don't wear much makeup so that was perfect for me. I loved how it came out and Cali was such a sweet girl. I loved that she took the time to accommodate me and she did such a good job. I got my makeup done around 11 am and it still looked good when I got home at 3 am that night!! She also emailed me a list of all the products she used on me which I will be buying!! Thank you so much Cali, you definitely made my birthday very special!! read more

We just moved to this area from Iowa. We weren't used to a Sephora this large! We were always stuck with the small ones inside JCPenny's. The staff there was very friends. What really makes this review 5 stars is the makeover that they gave my mom. The makeup artist's name is Banesa and she is AMAZING! She basically knew everything about makeup. Everytime I go to this Sephora I feel like Im being watched like a hawk and yet I don't get a lot of assistance. I may not look like your typical beauty guru who puts 100 pounds of makeup but I know a lot more than you guys think for me to be treated as if I'm about to steal something. I feel as if I have to rush out of the store so that way I won't be accused of stealing and that's not how customers should feel when entering your store. Too many experiences with this Sephora that has made me feel like this and I think I'll probably just stick to Ulta. At least they are very helpful and friendly and don't hound their customers. What a horrible experience! I took my niece to purchase some perfume and we passed at least 5 sales associates and were never acknowledged not even once. They sure enjoyed chatting amongst themselves. I couldn't believe it. My niece had been searching for this perfume and no one else had it but I refused to purchase it from there given the poor customer service. It bothered me so much that I figured I'd call the manager, what a waste of time, she didn't seem to sincerely care so I could see why the service was so poor. It's ok though because people like that won't have a job for long. Hopefully corporate will see how sales are and maybe do something about it. I had an extremely disappointing experience at this Sephora. The staff here is underwhelming in their customer service and I will not be returning for future purchases. I bought a couple of items at this location and realized that I was not given the VIB 20% off promotion that was being offered in stores and online. I went back to see if there was any chance they could give me a price adjustment which is not unusual. (I have worked in retail...) The girl reversed my transaction and began applying the discount when she mentions to me that I am no longer a VIB and have since been demoted at Sephora. She said that I have to switch to regular VIP and that the promotion could not be applied to my purchase. OKAY, fine. I shop at Ulta, Nordstrom, and other retailers for makeup as well. What I can't wrap my head around is the fact that the woman who took my purchase the night BEFORE didn't bother to tell me that this was the situation. I am frustrated in their lack of explanation, their lack of caring and the fact that they didn't try to resolve the situation or offer a solution. I had eyeshadows and eyeliner that I was going to purchase tonight as well that I didn't. The manager was standing at the cash register and simply told me ramblings about the point system. She didn't offer samples or a smaller discount. I am so disappointed that there was no thought in what they were saying. There was no compassion. Came to this location yesterday and it was really busy and the service was outstanding! The whole time I was there about 8 employees asked if I was okay or had any questions. They have a color expert on staff to help you with foundations or powder matching. Also they carry a wide variety of cosmetic lines here like Illamasqua, Yves Saint Laurent, Lancome, and Too Face Products just to name a few. I see that most reviewers are really disappointed in the customer service at this location (Milford JC Penny is pretty bad but that's another story). Anyway, this review is specifically about my experience with Will... he was absolutely fantastic! I've worked retail most of my life so I'm pretty hardcore about customer service and I can say that Will has that in spades (kid deserves a raise or promotion lol). I'm not a huge makeup person and he made my experience comfortable and informative; like doing your makeup with your best friend. He showed how to apply products and why he favored one technique or product over another. I didn't feel pressured to buy (I did get some great stuff btw) but will be back for the other products he recommended and to pick his brain or just say hello lol. Thanks Will! read more

What I like the most about Sephora is the fact that they do on the spot trials with amazing make-up. You have options for what you desire and you get to see what suits you the best. And for your birthday, you get a free gift so it is totally worth it. An amazing selection with the best of the best; it may cost a little more but the products last a very long time. read more

I went to both sephora's tonight the big one and the newest one in JC Penny, the big one...I as a customer should not feel like I am intruding when all I want to do is to be shade matched and buy a good foundation, I have done that once before and the girl took me around the store painting it on my face and not using the skin IQ. It is like every SINGLE time I walk in there i am dreading it because I am completely ignored since the women there would rather be standing around chit chatting than helping a customer. the one in jc penny is a little better I think they could use a 4th employee if they don't have it already, I asked to get shade matched there I saw one women was busy with a customer so I was not going to be rude and interrupt so I asked the other women I saw working and she told me to wait for the other girl to be done. I waited 20 minutes before guessing my shade and walking out. Going to the mall alone gives me anxiety I hate shopping in person and after multiple experiences of being ignored and feeling uncomfortable by not only 1 single employee but by pretty much all of them there I will keep in mind to either shop online now or take my business elsewhere because I have spent WAY TOO MUCH money to be ignored. I think I'm being generous with 2 stars only because the 1/3 girls I saw at jc penny were super nice and very helpful to me. read more

I love Sephora and highly recommend the website or maybe another location, but I have had nothing but bad experiences at the Trumbull location due to the customer service. It seems as though all the employees cannot be bothered to you help and many times they are flat out rude. I visit this Sephora when I'm in a jam and out of product - I usually shop online. The selection is great and the service is excellent. However, this Sephora is a bit small in comparison to others I've visited; that being said, it is in Trumbull and convenient for a quick stop. read more

Got a makeover by Cynthia for my best friend's wedding and loved my look so much! I was so unbelievably in love with my eye look that I ended up buying the palette she used [not a planned purchase]. I have had mixed feelings about this location, since most times I walk in to see a group of employees talking amongst themselves and not really acknowledging me, but today was an A+ experience. I usually love the Sephora in the Trumbull mall! But tonight I went in to get some samples and the employees there were very rude. I asked them to recommend me some stuff and they didn't answer me as if they were bothered, and I asked two girls! I was asking questions about the events that were going to take place in a couple of weeks and they were just laughing and smiling trying to make me feel stupid I guess. Totally did not feel welcome today and was definitely not satisfied. I left the store with nothing I was looking for. I'm a VIB rouge which means I spent more than $1,000 yearly in sephora. I know my makeup. I brought my sister here because she was looking for a foundation. Based on what she explained to me that she wanted, I already knew which foundations she should get a sample of to try (too faced, makeup forever and nars). I asked a sales associate to do a color IQ on her (they scan your face with a machine to tell you what shade you are in multiple foundations). First off she seemed bothered that I asked her. Then she asked my sister to sit in her makeup chair while she did the color IQ. I proceeded to tell her the names of the 3 foundations that she'd like a sample of to take home & try. She ignored me. I asked her a question about the coverage of one of the foundations & she just said "yes" like it was pulling teeth. She clearly had an attitude. She then proceeds to do a 15minute makeup/makeover on my sisters face with a foundation that SHE liked, ( lancome stick foundation) not even one of the ones I asked for. After she was done she put the full size bottle retail foundation with a primer in my sisters bag (to purchase) and dismissed her. I asked her if we could still get the samples of the foundations we specifically asked for & she said.. Oh im sorry you'll have to ask someone else, I'm going to have another customer soon. So I told another sales associate that my sister wasn't happy with the service we received and if we could get her help to get a few samples. She was lovely! She had bright red hair. She gave us what we asked for and was very helpful on what WE were interested in (not what she thought was best for us). Plus she looked at my sisters face and said "you look pink" -- meaning the foundation the other artist put on her was the wrong undertone. If your customer asks for YOUR suggestion on what you think is best, by all means give your input but if a customer knows specifically what they want, don't try to push what you like on them. read more
