Our first experience with Plumbums was excellent - we had an emergency issue, Jim was able to come…read moreout within an hour or two and get it fixed, and he was on his way. When our pipes froze during the big storm this January (thankfully, without water in them), we decided to hire Plumbums again. That didn't go as well. Quality of work: The fixes Jim suggested (a series of individual junction fixes) seemed reasonable for the repairs needed, but in some cases replacing whole sections would have been more time- and cost-efficient (according to other plumbers we've had in our home who have seen the work done). And we needed four return visits within our first three days living in the house to address issues that had not been resolved or that popped up as soon as we turned systems on. One problem (heat running constantly on our first floor, making the house over 80 degrees in the winter) was unresolved until I researched possible causes myself and communicated that to Jim, who sent out one of his guys to implement the fix. Professionalism: We were frustrated by the lack of care shown toward our property. Jim's guys left plumbing debris (not just the stuff our homeowner's insurance requested, but just straight-up trash), food trash, and drywall dust in our basement and living areas. This means that the first thing we had to do after driving 3,200 miles to move in was clean up after them. Drywall was removed roughly in several locations, and although patching was not included in the estimate, the cuts themselves appeared unnecessarily sloppy (and our new plumber neatly cuts and replaces drywall as a matter of course, leaving the mudding to us, which is fine). Plumbums did work well with our insurance company to get our claim handled, and ultimately we have working plumbing. But our experience wasn't great.

Background: they did the oil to gas conversion in our home in November 2017 (yup I'm doing this review over a year later). We had about 5-7 quotes and they were very competitive (some were lower some were higher but I think their quote was the best value for what we received). During the install they were clean and efficient. I think it took about 3 days? We got a Bosch Greenstar Combi unit (ugh) and a water heater (but not the normal ones...something different I can't remember the name). The combi unit IS a water heater but we needed more so I guess this is like a reserve tank. Anyway, soon after we had some issues with the boiler (low water heat mainly) every time we called Chris came back and fixed it (usually within a day). Alright cue a year later. This boiler is annoying my husband has to reset it often. But no big deal. Wouldn't u know after our service warranty ran out this thing acts like it's wants to break break. I emailed them after hours and they called me bright and early the next morning to send someone out. Chris (not sure if he's the only full time employee or what) came and swapped out the igniter and said he's gonna have them call me for a more (hopefully) permanent solution. And guess what? No bill. Did they have to not charge me? No. Was I ready to pay? Yup. But that was really awesome. So you may be wondering why I'd give them a glowing review for the somewhat crappy boiler they installed? Easy, I had actually done my research and this boiler and it had good reviews. Put it another way, if you go to a car dealership get a lemon but the dealership makes it right for you, you wouldn't trash the dealer right? Exactly. I appreciate that they stand behind their service. I think that's what sets them apart. So A+ from me.

Avoid this business--dishonest pricing and terrible service…read more I called at 5 PM on a Friday to get my sewer drain unclogged. I was quoted $378 plus a $200 weekend emergency fee. To save money, I told the dispatcher I would wait until Monday. She then offered to waive the $200 fee and send a technician out immediately. This turned out to be a bait-and-switch. They sent a technician without a vacuum truck, meaning he couldn't actually unclog the drain. Instead, he just cleaned a filter and charged me $168. If they had sent the correct truck in the first place, cleaning the filter would have been included in the original job price. It feels like they forced a dispatch just to trap me into paying a service fee, knowing they couldn't fix the actual problem. To make matters worse, the technician was incredibly unprofessional. He initially told me the visit would be $128, but after calling the office, he hiked the price to $168 and lied to my face, claiming he never said $128. He also seemed completely clueless and had to be walked through the basic steps of the job over the phone by his office. I paid the fee just to get him to leave and canceled any future service. I would give 0 stars if possible.

Had these guys recommended to us to come unclog a kitchen drain. He asked to come early but still…read morearrived an hour late, started ripping apart the drain without a bucket to catch the water and then laying the nasty dirty pipes on our 6' long woven kitchen mat, rather than a blanket, a paper towel or even the tile floor. The snake did not work and actually got stuck for awhile but that's because the pipes were very bad & could not be unclogged as it was legitimately bad 70 yr old galvanized pipes completely corroded and blocked. So, after multiple methods & tries, I agreed that we needed to replace about 10' of old galvanized pipe with PVC and the basic older PVC drain components under the sink. Understandably, they could not come back until the following day since the scope of work had changed. The actual plumber (very nice guy, decent work, but VERY MESSY) scheduled his return for 8:30 the next day, and estimated 4 hrs of work for $1,100 + materials, tbd. As we were left without a kitchen sink, since he got us in for the next morning & was recommended by a friend and fellow plumber, I agreed to the high labor estimate, knowing it there was a chance that it could take more than 4 hrs and signed for the labor, while my wife spent 2 hrs that night cleaning our kitchen mat from drain grease. Next morning, I had to go to work so my wife took the day off. Midmorning, I'm getting texts from her asking for his number as no one had shown up and I had not heard anything. Again, over an hour late, but shows up and gets the job done in about 2.5 hrs. As he's leaving, he asks for almost $1,500. She says, ok, please just give me the break-down for the materials. He has to call the office, puts my wife on the phone with the brother who refuses to provide an itemized list of material costs. Plumber leaves, wife pays the agreed upon labor charge of $1,100 for 4 hrs that took 2.5, no questions asked. Wife says she will pay materials, even marked up materials, if she is given a breakdown (again, this was 10' of 2-1/2" PVC and a few fittings). Mind you, I'm an Executive Construction Project Manager for nearly 20 yrs. I receive an email with a list of random items, no prices, including boxes of rags, latex gloves, boxes of glue, etc. I tell wife to get a real breakdown before settling after already paying the inflated labor cost. My wife then receives a barrage of texts threatening escalation unless "agreed upon" material costs are not paid...but no materials were agreed upon and they refused to provide material details. I get out of work and start receiving the same texts...for hundreds of dollars of materials that they refuse to itemize. On top of that, the mess left was insane and I later found he left a 6" piece of old nasty piping in the wall that I had opened up for them, stinking up the bsmt, dripping old grease down the walls. Never again...talk about choosing their battles Talk about choosing your battles...and knowing when to stop arguing with customers.

He replied a couple of days later and came out to do the repair. It was a bit pricey for what it was, but I agreed to it. During the inspection, he jostled my expansion tank and told me it need to be replaced as the bladder had failed and it was full of water - and he'd do the entire job for ***$1,700*** to replace the tank, and fix the leaking pipe. He explained to me that since there was no air cushion, my well pump was cycling every time I cracked open a faucet. I just nodded, played dumb, and asked questions but I'm a mechanical engineer and I know full well how the system works and I know my pump had not been cycling. That, and the line of sweat on the tank was not even halfway up the side. The entire tank would have sweated if there was no air. BTW, a new tank retails at $199.00 at HD and Lowe's. They completed the repair quickly, I Venmo'd him the money and let them leave. I then went and checked the expansion tank myself. I depressed the Schrader valve and water should have come out if it was waterlogged. Just air escaped. There was nothing wrong with it and the bladder just needed to be topped up to it's 38 psi spec. I turned off the pump, bled the pressure down with garden hose, and used a portable tire compressor. Done. B E W A R E
