One important detail: my HVAC is a rooftop packaged unit with indoor access only through a master bedroom walk in closet. There are no building stairs to the roof, so the technician must bring a ladder and climb about 11 feet indoors. This unusual setup made it difficult for me to find a company willing to handle the access, but Manny's was able to take care of it without any issues. It has been 10 days since the repair, and the air conditioner is running normally again. The repair came with a standard 90 day warranty, but honestly the quality of the work mattered more to me than the warranty. I recommend this company.

Jerry diagnosed that it was a low capacitor and freon leak, and that the fan motor was not broken like others have said. Other companies needed me to purchase additional parts to get it fixed but Jerry was able to get my AC working the same day. My HVAC unit was nearing it's end of life so I was also comparing bids on what made the most sense for my condo. Jerry offered to temporarily 'lend' us a new capacitor and pumped freon into my system at no charge while I made the decision whether I wanted just the fix or to replace my system. If I decided to just go with the fix, I would pay for it of course, but if I went with replacing the system, they would just take back their capacitor and reclaim the freon. This was a hugely appreciated gesture. Their HVAC replacement proposal was also very competitive. I ultimately decided to replace the system. The experience was pleasant from beginning to end. Cecilia is the one who helps schedule at the office, very friendly and responsive. Jerry was the technician who helped us diagnose the issue and coordinate the HVAC team. He was friendly, transparent, and always responded quickly to my texts/questions - great communication. The day of, the workers Juan, Victor and Andrew were very professional. Maintained constant communication the whole time, kept me updated on the process and what they were doing. They wore booties inside, protected the floor with tarp, and were just very careful in general. The installation of the unit itself is very professionally done, and they vacuumed everything and cleaned up afterwards. They even explained how to register the units for warranties etc. They were able to remove the old AC and install the whole new system the same day, roughly ~5-6 hours including the crane to get the units on/off the roof of the condo building.

He showed up a few minutes early , diagnosed the problem right away. And quickly got the problem fixed! Rene corrected the drain line that was causing the unit to shut off, he also flushed out the line to clear any sediment and debris. My 10 year old Lennox split system had a an AC refrigerant low pressure lockout occur which…read moredisabled the air conditioning. I know the useful service life of my AC equipment is 15 to 20 years. But, Brody Pennell told me the R-410A refrigerant is no longer allowed in new systems in California. TRUE, but these guys made it sound like there was an expensive shortage of this refrigerant. And they said my cooling coil was leaking and the sales guy who came later said the condensor coil was leaking too. They were basing their opinions on a visual inspection and the fact that the refrigerant pressure was low. They did not perform any leak testing to determine where the leak was or how big it was. It could have been in a joint. It could be in a coil but they recommended, a cost effective, guaranteed solution, was to replace the entire system including refrigerant piping, electrical wiring, relatively new Lennox smart thermostat, everything, grand total over $24,000 and I need to sign the contract by the next day to get labor scheduled and equipment ordered. TODAY, four days later, an HVAC buddy of mine came over and tested the system. Said, yes you have very little refrigerant but your system is otherwise operable. He said, there's no shortage of R-410A refrigerant and had his helper bring a bottle of R-410A from the truck. He said tiny leaks develop over time but a recharge will allow you to run until next year. If your refrigerant is excessively low next year there is an additive you can put in the refrigerant that seals tiny leaks. So, in a half hour the system was back up cooling the house. I asked how much and my buddy said he will charge me next time I get some service. In another 5 to 10 years when I need a new AC system, I will remember Brody Pennell's predatory tactics and go with somebody else just on principle. I will never call them for repairs. Selling a new system during a heat wave makes them $2,000 to $5,000 commission, but repairing a system doesn't pay nearly as much. Shame on these guys.
