Super friendly staff, clean office, great experience. I hadn't been to the dentist in a while and and had been looking around for a new dentist that took my insurance. I was nervous having not been to the dentist in a while (and the dentist always makes me nervous) but they made me feel very comfortable, put me at ease and took great care of my teeth! Sarah was my dental hygienist and was wonderful! She explained everything she was going to do, made me feel at ease with my nerves and made sure I had all my questions answered. What a wonderful place! I've been going here for years, originally due to some Groupon/LivingSocial deal when I was between insurance plans. I've never had a bad experience here - Serenity is more than just a name. There is coffee/tea/water in the lobby, you can pick movies/shows to watch during your cleaning, and there are soothing hand warmers I rarely decline to wear. It's not a day spa or anything, but it's certainly a calming atmosphere. I recently trialed moving to an office closer to my home in St Paul, but I'll be back to Serenity next time I'm due for a cleaning because I miss it here! The staff are super nice, thorough, patient, but also tell it to me straight - these are the first hygienists that have convinced me to actually floss every day. I brush really well and my teeth have always been healthy, so I used to be more of a "seasonal flosser" . That is, until Darlene told me "your teeth may be in great shape, but your gums are infected - you NEED to floss." So thank you, Serenity, for helping improve my oral health habits for life. read more

I bought a Groupon a few months ago because I'm currently without dental insurance and Serenity had a fantastic deal. Even better - I could make an evening appointment and not have to take time off work to go to the dentist! Let me tell you, I had had a very stressful day at work (one for the books, as they say) and had to rush to make it to Woodbury from downtown Minneapolis for a 6:00 appointment. When I got there I was in an awful mood and just wanted to get in and out as fast as possible. I hadn't been to the dentist in two years (a long time for me) and was anxious about the overall state of my mouth on top of everything else. I checked in and immediately went down the hall to brush my teeth, because I left work in such a rush that I hadn't had time. When I returned to the lobby a girl who appeared to have been looking for me asked in a very welcoming manner if I'd like to choose a movie or television show to watch. Confused, I wondered if they meant while I was waiting for my appointment (it was already 6!) and I chose to watch an episode of Friends, since I figured I wouldn't be there long enough for a movie or even half of one. Then Christine (Christina? I am horrible...) took me back to my chair. If there is any fluorescent light in this dentist's office, I sure didn't notice it (perception is everything!) The windows commanded more than half of the height of the wall that my chair faced, and it was a sunny day so I had the pleasure of late evening sunshine streaming in while I got comfortable. They asked if I wanted a warm hand treatment while I had my exam, and I have to admit that I was utterly confused by this question. (Was it an upcharge because I came in with a Groupon?) I laughed and said "who says no to that?!" They admitted that hardly anyone ever did. So a few minutes later I found myself with my hands covered in lotion, stuck in gloves, and covered halfway to the elbow with a hot aroma therapy mitt. I'm not kidding when I say that the stress of the day started to immediately melt away. My hygienist (Christine/Christina) was incredibly kind and had a really soothing presence - after this visit I realize how undervalued a characteristic that may be for someone in her profession. She set me up with my hot mitts and my Friends and we got to work (well, she did). To explain the presence of the television show Friends a little further, first think of the floating light that the dentist has that they can manipulate and tilt in any direction so that it's shining directly on the precise spot in your mouth that they wanted. Now imagine that it's a flat screen television, and you get the idea. Behind the light (and in place of any cute kitten posters) floats a TV on which your program of choice plays while the super nice hygienist attends to your teeth and your warm forearms lie comfortably and heavily on your belly. If it hadn't been for her digging in my mouth I would surely have fallen asleep in five or less. By now I'm comfortable - and planning on possibly staying for the entire fifth season of friends - and she starts taking x-rays using a digital method in which she sticks a card into my mouth that's connected to the computer's USB port. Awesome! I've never seen such a sight, so forgive me if I'm lost in the future. To sum it up, this office has great technology and everything is computerized. They also performed several procedures - such as measuring the pocket between my gums and teeth - that no dentist in my lifetime has ever done before. To me that means going above and beyond and I felt very taken care of. After C was done with the initial exam, Dr Ellie came in to have a look. She was also extremely kind and engaged me in a quick conversation totally unrelated to teeth for a minute or two before she stuck her fingers in my mouth or even began to do what she was there to do. I loved that, because every time I've been to the dentist, orthodontist, or oral surgeon in my life they either haven't tried or they've started talking to me after their hands are IN my mouth, essentially preventing any possible response and irritating me to no end. After Dr Ellie was finished, Christine/a spent another 30 - 45 minutes giving me the most thorough teeth cleaning of my life. I've never been so not rushed at the dentist. I felt like she must have felt like she could not go home until every last speck of wine stain on my teeth was eradicated. Well folks, she succeeded - my teeth haven't been this (off-)white since I-don't-know-when. And keep in mind that it was time for her to go home. If I haven't conveyed this already, I highly recommend Serenity Dental. It's out of the way for me, sure, and probably for lots of you Yelpers too. But I assure you that it's worth it to head to Woodbury to see them. Just know that - like a massage - you may not want to return to work afterwards. So try to snag one of their after hours appointments!! read more

When I moved back to Woodbury, I needed a dentist. After asking around, I had a list of four dental offices that were highly recommended - unfortunately none of those four took my dental insurance! There were hardly any recommendations online, so I was basically flying blind :) The concept of Serenity Dental is that a trip to the dentist doesn't need to be stressful. I usually have no problem visiting the dentist, but on my last trip in California (a basic cleaning), it was really painful and one of my cheeks was puffy and sore for days. So, a 'gentle' dentist visit seemed a good idea! It's fairly easy to get an appointment during the week, but the Saturday morning and weekday evening (the one night they are open late) slots fill up 1-2 months in advance. The feel is part spa, part dentist office. The chairs and walls are in purple, and there's flowers and positive quotes on the walls. The receptionist and dental assistant are more friendly and perky than the average dentist office, and reminded me more of the front-desk area of a spa than a dentist office. But that's all incidental - the actual dental visits were good, in my opinion. First, I had a 'examination' i think it's called. Normally that's combined with a cleaning, but because I had some dental issues (due to a recent car accident), we did it separately to make sure there was enough time. This included the x-rays (which were more painful than normal. But I think they use some special low-radiation x-ray system, so that makes me feel better). Then the dentist (Dr. Ellie) spent about 20 minutes examining my teeth, including gum disease, cavities, enamel wear. It was one of the most thorough teeth examinations I've had in a long time. Plus, everything was on the computer, so they could show me images of my teeth and point to what she was talking about as she explained her recommendations. The cleaning itself took less than half an hour (although i think this visit will normally be longer, if it's combined with the examination). They will put on a dvd for you, and a relaxing wrap on your hands. I thought it sounded cheesy before-hand, but the lavender-scented warmed hand towels totally felt great :) The cleaning was definitely one of the least stressful I've had. Not just because of the hand-wrap! It was performed by the dentist (I've always had the bulk of the cleaning done by a dental hygienist). They had a vibrating pick which was hardly painful (although it did spray water onto my face a few times) and resulted in less use of the scraper, which is always my least favorite part. And one of my favorite things is that they were willing to explain and provide cost estimates for the recommended dental work. Some of my dental work (i.e. cleaning) were on-going maintenance. But some of it was a result of the accident I was in. And so I wanted to talk with insurance before having that work done. The office manager provided me with a complete list of what was recommended, including the total cost and what my dental insurance was expected to cover. So, yes, it's a teensy bit cheesy. But the focus on comfort goes beyond the DVD and scented hand-wrap to the tools they use, the thorough explanations, and the willingness to work with you. And, in my experience, Dr. Ellie has been very competent. read more

I've begun to look forward to going to the dentist. The office is immaculate and the staff is incredibly kind. My cleaning was as pleasant as a dental cleaning could possibly be. I was shamelessly distracted by some Sandra Bullock rom com the entire time. I think the small touches, like warm hand wraps and DVD players, are a nice way to make a typically uncomfortable experience When I needed a more serious dental surgery, they were helpful with explaining my options and gave me a great referral. I've referred many of my friends to this place, and they gave me a target giftcard as a thanks. Very nice. read more

I have this issue with avoidance. One would think that by my mid-twenties I'd have figured out that avoiding something uncomfortable only delays the inevitable...and usually makes it worse...but I haven't. So I didn't go to the dentist for three years. Part of that was a lack of insurance and part of that was an unfortunate trend of always getting cavities despite my (I like to think) diligent dental hygiene. I'd put off the tooth scraping and potential lectures long enough and decided to put on my big girl pants and check yelp for some recommendations. Serenity popped up and, well, they had me at dvd and warm hand treatment. I called beforehand to get a new patient price quote (for someone without insurance) and they were upfront with me about all the costs. They were also able to get me in within a week! Great for when you just want to get something over with. The office is located in a building with a number of other businesses but you forget that as soon as you walk in. The place just FEELS calm...and that's not a word I generally associate with the dentist. I handed the receptionist my paperwork (you can print out the new patient paperwork online ahead of time and save yourself some extra work while you're there) and she handed me a list of dvds, categorized by genre. Niiiice. I chose Pirates of the Caribbean (if anything can distract me from the dentist its Jack Sparrow) and my (very nice) hygienist led me back to her station. X-rays were taken, hands were pampered, teeth were cleaned and examined, and I survived! Flossing lecture and cavity-free! Two of my sealants had come off and they were able to put those in at the end of my appointment which was sooo convenient. They also have an amazing referral program so if you go, be sure to recommend them to others and reap the benefits. And if you want name-drop me, I'm not opposed to that either :) Woodbury is about 30 min. away from where I live so the fact that I'm planning on returning should say something. Go relax for an hour...and yea, do that whole dentist thing while you're at it. read more

Is it possible to give a root canal 5-stars? Yes, at Serenity Dental in Woodbury. Dr. Ellie and her entire staff are professional and kind. Two things you want in a dentist office. They have also incorporated the latest digital techniques into the practice which lessens patient discomfort while increasing diagnostic capabilities. I originally saw Dr. Ellie for a second opinion but was so impressed and convinced about the solution to my tooth ache, I returned two days later for a root canal. I had the procedure this morning, and the novacaine has worn off....but, my original tooth ache is gone. My jaw is sore from the significant dental work but that's it. Overall, in discussing other potential dental issues, Dr. Ellie was candid about more expensive options that may not be good fit for me. That was huge. read more

I just had the grueling experience of having a filling originally completed by Serenity drilled out and replaced because Serenity did not excavate the entire cavity when they placed it, so it's been rotting away my tooth beneath their shoddy work. After a new dentist told me both fillings Serenity had done needed to be replaced, I sought a second opinion and waited to ensure that there was in fact a cavity beneath the filling and not merely a shadow on the X-ray from a weird compound. Sure enough, it grew on future X-rays. The relaxing hand treatments were great, but can't make up for poor technical skills. read more

Went in for a routine teeth cleaning. Then they brought in what seemed like every dentist in the building to come marvel at all the work I had done as a child. When I was leaving she insisted on scheduling a next appointment. I refused as I didn't know if I would be moving further away in 6-months time. She would not take no for an answer. Some time later (after I moved away) my brother gave me a piece of mail from Serenity telling me I have a lifetime ban from services at the Clinic for missing an appointment! read more

This place is the best. Women owned and operated. They know their stuff. They also calm you with a warm hand treatment and distract you with a movie. I just got a cleaning and a cavity filled and had no pain or discomfort. Love it! read more

Serenity Dental is an oasis, if you can say that about a dental clinic. They provide comfort and stress relief during a time when most of us are nervous, in pain, and worrying. I have had a lot of dental work in my lifetime and moving has caused me to use many different clinics throughout my life. I say this because I have never encountered an office like this. Here are the differences: Calming atmosphere that includes new and comfortable seating, friendly and attentive staff, TV's and earphones while you are in the chair. I have not experiences aromatherapy but I see they have added that, and it doesn't surprise me. They treat the whole person, mind and body. That is SO important and is almost always missed by every other dentist. The dentists are classy, plain and simple. You are treated with respect and you honestly feel that you are a customer they appreciate from the minute you make an appointment through the end of the treatment. ( I got a call 24 hours after my root canal to find out how I was doing!) ALSO...everything is under ONE ROOF! Every dentist I have interviewed in the past few years, will send you out of the office for everything but basic cleaning, x rays and fillings. In turn, every one they send you to will charge you an exam fee and x rays. So, if you get sent to a root canal specialist, they will charge you exam fee plus x-ray before they even treat you even though you were referred to them by one of their 'so called partners'. Then, if the root canal specialist says they can't help you, you get sent to an oral surgeon. Guess what?? Another appointment and another exam fee and more x-rays. The little dental plan I have of 1200.00 a year gets half used before any real treatment or cleanings are even done! This is an awful thing to do to a person, especially when they are in the worst pain of their lives. Make sure you ask questions if this ever happens to you. I would imagine they don't do oral surgery at Serenity, but they do perform root canals and I have not been sent away with a referral yet. The few things they are lacking that would make them 5 stars: *In house payment plans (to fix dental emergencies is not cheap and many people, like myself, don't have the credit needed to qualify for med credit) Therefore, what do you do when you need a root canal and a crown? Part two of in house payment plans: It is a great thing that an office such as this takes MN care patients, and I am grateful for that. However, when getting a root canal there is a mandatory 'build up' that has to be done. Some dentists don't make this mandatory but this dentist won't do a root canal without doing a build up. The build up is not covered by MN Care, so if you are desperate and need a root canal, and you are low income, then you better come up with the almost 300.00 for a build up, for every tooth needing a root canal! As a result, you won't even get the root canal you so desperately need if you can't come up with the money for the build up. This is cruel, I think. At least they could offer an in-house payment plan for 3 or 4 months in order to pay for the build ups. *Low price match/dental plan price match - Dental plans usually don't fund the full treatment of one tooth that needs a root canal and a crown, let alone two or three. If you have a dental plan and the funds are all used up, then you should be given the discounted dental plan price for all of your other dental needs because you are a plan member. Even if your funds are used up. I don't understand why dental offices unnecessarily charge higher rates for additional needs, if you are a member you should get member prices. I have been told by another patient that Serenity did this for him, so maybe they have changed this policy since I was treated in early 2013. read more

Unfortunately, I had a horrible experience with Serenity Dental... which makes me sad because there are so many great reviews! I was new to the area and therefore had to do my research before selecting a new dentist. Serenity Dental was recommended and seemed to be a really nice place so I decided to give it a try. When I first arrived to the building it was really easy to find and I was greeted kindly by the staff. I was then taken back to start my cleaning. I sat down in the chair and the hygienist asked if she could take my wallet. I said yes thinking she would put it in my line of view on the counter next to me, although this was not done. The hygienist took my wallet and put it by her, behind me. It took me about 10-20 seconds to think "wait, what" and when I turned around, she was looking/digging through my purse. When I questioned her, she told me "something dropped in my wallet" but it was closed (zipped) when I gave it to her. I was mortified. This is a really well recommended dental office in Woodbury, which is an area I had just moved to. I immediately got up and went to the front desk and asked to speak to a manager. The manager I was able to talk to was the owners husband, who was so in shock he started cracking jokes such as "usually we wait for the second time in the office to look through your personal belonging". As I write this review I still have the same feeling I did leaving the office that day. I cannot get myself to go back. The hygienist was new and was let go before I left the dental office. I also received a $10 target gift card when leaving the office and a follow-up email offering free teeth whitening in which I could not get myself to reply to because I felt as though it was a peace offering for my silence on the issue. It has now been six months since the visit and this review has been written. read more

Serenity Dental is wonderful! I'm not a big fan of going to the dentist (like most people, I think), but they really do make your service here as comfortable and serene as possible. Every cleaning I've had has been gentle but thorough, not leaving me with sore gums at the end of the experience. Dr. Ellie is fantastic and is always happy to answer any questions I have. Very impressed! I have been a patient at Serenity Dental for just over a year. With each dental cleaning I have been met with friendly staff, a paraffin hand treatment, and the choice to watch a tv show during the visit! Dr. Ellie is knowledgeable and genuine with all concerns. Recently, I had a mini-emergency with a problem tooth. The staff was able to accommodate a short notice appointment and honored the time constraint I had. I was x-rayed, consulted with Dr. Ellie, and made a payment within 15 minutes of arrival. I'm happy to be a patient here! read more

My friends often get jealous that I actually enjoy going to the dentist but when I go to Serenity it is more like going to the spa...I am greeted with bottled water or tea, I get to pick a movie to watch during my exam and I get a moisturizing warm hand treatment! Their technology and tools are state of the art. I recently had to get a crown on a molar and they were able to do everything same day- no temporaries, etc. I would highly recommend Serenity Dental if you are looking for a great dental experience and you will see the difference immediately! My old son really enjoyed his experience too- it was cool to sit in the big chair, wear some fun glasses and watch a movie! read more

Just thought I'd give an update since it's been a few years since I wrote my original review. Unbelievably, I still give it a full 5 stars. I'm sure the only people who believe this are the current patients of Serenity. I do not rave about service lightly - especially a dentist - until I found this place. This place is how all dental offices should be - Dr. Ellie should be giving seminars to other dentists on how to make patients comfortable and happy. She clearly has figured out something with hiring the right kind of staff, as the happy pills seem to have been passed around to everyone there. Never have I felt more welcome and at ease when walking into a business. They have figured out that happy customers are going to mean more business. read more

Its rare you'd hear me recommend a dentist, but I've recommended Serenity Dental to many people now via word of mouth, about time I recommend via yelp as well. From their calm, caring, friendly staff who take a guilt free approach to the care to the nice DVD select each visit to the super easy electronic appointment reminder and confirmation links, they are simply a pleasant dentist all around. My wife and I were looking for a new dentist, and found Serenity Dental through a web search. Our previous dentist was excellent, but we felt that he was getting a little expensive. I signed up for a dental discount plan, and Serenity was one of the providers. I was the first to visit Serenity. My experience wasn't bad. The hygienist was very friendly. The dentist I saw, Dr. Ellie, came in and looked around my mouth. She said that things looked OK. She probably spent 5 minutes with me. Not personable, but that isn't real important to me. So, the experience was OK. My wife, on the other hand, had a very bad experience. She was experiencing some pain on a cap that our previous dentist had put on. Dr. Ellie came in and did the usual 5 minute review that I had experienced. My wife told her about the problem, and Dr. Ellie tapped the tooth with her instrument. Based on this, she told my wife that she had two options: get a root canal, or pull the tooth. My wife asked whether there might be an alignment problem, and Dr. Ellie said no. My wife was upset about this visit because: 1) the tooth was recently fixed, and 2) Dr. Ellie is very blunt and not very personable. Also, Dr. Ellie couldn't perform this type of root canal due to the tooth's roots being convoluted. My wife went back to our old dentist. He was very gracious, looked at the tooth, and said that there was a bite/alignment issue. He spent a lot of time with her, knowing that she was upset about the whole deal. He fixed the alignment, and things should be good to go. So, Dr. Ellie gave my wife BAD advice. And, she did it in an impersonal way. The other dentist in this office may be fine - we don't know. We're going back to our old dentist, even if it is more expensive. Better to pay more and feel confident in what you are getting. read more

Dr. Amanda Elbert and her assistant is awesome. My son is 7 yrs old and has Autism so is hard to find a dentist who can help him. Office is beautifully designed and welcoming, staff are excellent. We were welcomed and Dr Amanda Elbert spoke to my son calmly and kindly. She showed my son the tools she will use and even let him touched and felt them which helped him understands and stay calm. She explained what she will be doing each time she inspects or touches his teeth, which helps my son understands what's happening. Her assistant even played Despicable Me movie for my son to watch while waiting. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Best Dentist office and Personnel I have ever seen. For years I had panic attacks about going to the dentist. I would avoid appointments at all costs. After I had children, I realized it was unfair to keep them on a regular dental schedule when I was terrified to go. I decided to look around for a new dentist that didn't fit the typical painful dentist stereotype. Once I found Serenity Dental I was able to stop my quest. Dr. Ellie is amazing and understands my fears. She works with me during my appointment and listens to my concerns. I love that I am not made to feel ashamed of my past experiences. The staff at Serenity Dental is spectacular too. Truly, I don't think I could find a better place to have my teeth looked after. Now, I even take my kids to see Dr. Ellie. I can't think of a single complaint about the service we receive at Serenity Dental. I would recommend them to anyone! read more

I am so glad to have found a dental office other than Serenity. After two visits in a row where the dentist was short and impatient with my rather calm child, Dr. Ellie put in a filling that was made of glass (which is sub-par) and didn't hold up. She charged us like it was a regular filling, though the other dental offices in the area charge less for them and most don't even offer them. I called her and submitted a letter asking that she reduce the price and telling her how displeased we were, but her only offer was to remove the filling and we could have our new dentist re-fill it - no price break, no apology, no trying to correct the situation. That glass filling fell out within a year and a half. We were already going to a different dentist at that time because of how the filling appointment went. Our new dentist noticed it was breaking apart and we set up an appointment to remove the filling and refill the tooth, which we did in June this year. We just went back because my daughter suddenly had a lot of pain and she now has to have that tooth pulled because of the bacteria that got inside, likely while this glass filling was breaking apart. I absolutely blame Dr. Ellie for this as she was lazy in dealing with a child who wasn't upset, rather had questions and a little anxiety about what she was doing. Dr. Ellie impatiently changed her mind to do the glass filling instead of the regular filling and now we have spent a TON of money on this baby tooth that will now be pulled next week due to the bacteria that slipped under this sub-par filling and lazy dentistry. I would NEVER recommend Serenity Dental to anyone. read more
