Great experience. Called as I needed to have my golden trimmed in the backend. He had already been bathed etc just needed a trim. Jennifer, the owner, said if you can bring him now I can do it before my next appointment. Granted if she had been working on a dog this would have not happened, but she still made the effort and I am grateful. The very best! The owner is truly a "dog whisperer". I have an elderly (16yr old) almost blind terrier mix with a ton of grooming anxiety (just a lot of anxiety in general as he has aged). He was badly matted as I have been trying to groom him on my own after other groomers in La Jolla have refused to take him. Yes, he wants to bite groomers. Brought my 5 month old, Cora, here for her first haircut, on a recommendation from a coworker. So glad I did! Cora got a "puppy trim" from Petsmart several weeks back and she was not so well behaved..so I was a bit nervous for her this time. HOWEVER, as soon as we walked in, Jen eased my fears. I cannot believe I have not reviewed this place yet. Serenity pet spa Jen and her husband are the most amazing Groomers that I have used. My dog Luna is deaf and hyper sensitive to being locked in the kennel so it was very important to me that she gets the direct attention she needs as well as not being in a kennel when she's not being worked on. Jen and her team work on the dogs one on one which makes such an enjoyable experience for her. Every time we come and Luna realizes where we are at she runs to the door in excitement. First off, Jennifer is a blessing. Since the first moment she met my pup, I knew she was there for my pet first. She's not about the money, the number of clients she can fit in a day, or how quickly she can get things done. She takes only one pup at a time so she can consider how the animal feels. And you'd think this slows her down but she can wash and groom my 50 lb collie mix in under an hour. That's right. An hour. I've left my pup at other groomers for up to four, now I'm unsure what the hell they were doing in other grooming salons. Upon the first appointment, I had texted Jennifer (huge plus) about appointment times. She quickly responded to my late night text and we were booked a week later. She took an intake assessment on my dog at the salon--what were her no-no spots, any sore limbs, arthritis, anything I was worried about--and gave my dog a ton of treats since she always was afraid of grooming salons. I left feeling at ease! Now my dog doesn't pull away from her salon door. She actually runs towards Jennifer and her husband when I'm there. And she does a great job with the groom and wash! Jen & Arturo are both amazing!! I brought my cocker spaniel in (who, was extremely nervous & shaking like a leaf prior to arriving). He walked around, checked everything out and was quickly at ease. They spent extra time waiting with him while I was stuck in traffic and when I arrived Ernie (my dog) was so calm & relaxed that he didn't even notice I had arrived! He was so happy being there, I can tell they really treated him like a king, not to mention how handsome he looked! The cut was phenomenal, they got all the green stuff out from around his mouth, and his fur is so soft! They even put a cute bandana around him! On the car ride home, he wasn't shaking or nervous, he was totally relaxed like he had spent a day at the spa! Jen is simply amazing! My little guy Crosby is a tough customer. The first time I brought him to the groomer I got a call back about 10 minutes later that he was barking and crying and carrying on. I came to get him, but luckily Jen came out and said she wanted to meet him and work with him. She asked me to bring him by once a week or so just to say hi and get comfortable with her. She was so good with him that it only took two weeks or so. She is GREAT with dogs and it really shows. Ever since, she's been the only groomer for Mr. Croz! I have always taken my dog, Daisy (a large German Shepherd rescue) to the same groomer for most of her life, but now that she is 13, she has a hard time getting in the car, gets nervous around all the other people and dogs at the groomer, and is unsettled by all the noise and activity. The staff there also change a lot and so I have to repeatedly explain Daisy's special needs (like she needs breaks from standing because of her arthritis). I knew I needed to make a change, but I was nervous to trust someone new. I saw on the NextDoor app that Jennifer / Serenity Pet Spaw was one street over from me. Service providers post on NextDoor fairly often, but few people comment. When Jennifer posted, several people replied right away to rave about her. I then saw all the amazing Yelp reviews. I emailed Jennifer with a bunch of questions, which she answered promptly and patiently (I'm sure I sounded really over-protective / overly concerned). Then I booked an appointment. Jennifer is amazing. My dog was not nervous for a second and was almost excited to be there, which shocked me since this was a new environment and new person. Jennifer has a single room and your dog is her focus during your appointment time. She understood my dog's temperament and how to handle her arthritis and hip issues. I felt completely comfortable leaving Daisy with her and had such peace of mind. When I picked Daisy up, she looked amazing (she had a de-shedding treatment along with all of the standard grooming services like nails, ears, etc.) and was happy and calm. I kid you not, she was almost prancing like she knew how good she looked. Jennifer had a great, affordable reference for a chiropractor to help Daisy's hip discomfort and was so knowledgeable in general. I had an exceptionally bad experience at this groomer. I took my Bichon in for a face trim and she came back with a body shave. She is groomed every 6 weeks so was not in bad shape. I couldn't believe it when I got the call saying she shaved her close and had delicate pink skin showing. Somehow calling ahead to warn me made it OK?? $60 later my dog still had a dirty ears, stained face, and no hair. In 16 years I have never had my dog groomed in such a a way. She talked a big game about understanding old dogs...but did not come through. read more

Lady is a rescue who is very skittish and submissive, it takes her time to warm-up to strangers and Jennifer gave her that time. She let Lady walk around and smell the area before they got started and she also gave me the option to stick around until Lady was settled.
