I went in for a facial as it was my first one , thought it would be a good idea and relaxing . It was very relaxing at that time. The next day my forehead was burning and I had red bumps all over it . I called to find out what was used on my face and the ingredients and they said the girl that did my facial wasn't in but I will call you back after I speak to the owner . The girl calls me back and just stated it is all dermatology tested . Its been over a week and my face ( forehead ) is no better its actually worse, so I have to make a dermatology appointment now. The owner of the spa or the young lady that did my facial has not even called me once to see if Im better , or nothing . Thats not very good customer service at all , the owner should be ashamed of herself . I bought hair extensions that the girl doing told me to get. They came in and I waited 3 weeks to finally get an appointment. At the appointment she leaves. Just leaves without saying a thing. I guess she didn't order enough hair and was freaking out. I said forget it. If I get the rest I'd be looking at 700 for just hair! She told me that it would be another 350 to redo them EACH time! Booked an appointment for their kids service called "princess package" for my daughter and her friend. When I made the appointment ahead of time I was told plan to be there for 1.5 to 2 hours. We were there for 53 mins. We were greeted at the front desk by a woman who didn't even say hello or smile. We then found out she would be one of the technicians. The technicians were Courtney and Heather. They started the kids services at different times and started with a pedicure the two technicians made no effort to speak or engage with the two 10 year old girls. We then went on to nails. The "nail art" design that they describe on the website is literally one small gem on two fingers. We then went on to makeup which took all of 2 mins to complete. Again no engagement from the technician. Lastly, the girls got to choose from a braid or bun. The stylist put NO effort into the hair. They each got two braids sloppily done with hair coming out. Upon checkout the woman checking me out had me swipe my card and then left no goodbye or thank you. I would not spend another penny at this salon. If you are looking for a special "spa" for kids this is not the place. Their lack of engagement or any effort towards children was horrendous. read more

So I come back the girl starts to remove my gel overall and is arguing with me about them being artificial nails which they are not then proceeds to remove my polish to tell me there is nothing she could put on them. So I was forced to leave without anything applied and my nails wipe cleaned of my manicure. I went here two years ago for a massage and other services and had a great experience. I decided to go again for a massage and facial since it's right here in town. I probably will go back for the facial but not for a massage. This is more like a boutique now with spa services on the side. My hot stone massage was awful. Plain and simple, worst massage ever. Her hands to start the massage were ice cold. The stones were lukewarm at best and half the time, I couldn't feel them. She fled the room when the massage was over and didn't offer me any water (a must after a massage). Not impressed. My facial was great, not excellent. My aesthetician ignored my concerns about prematurely aging skin and decided to focus on the fact that my skin was oily. It really isn't, but ok. The facial was relaxing. I added on the lip treatment which for $16, I could have done myself. It added nothing to the experience as my lips were still dried out when I left. My skin really doesn't have any noticeable changes and the Dermalogica products made my skin break out. The reception area is a boutique for overpriced Dermalogica products and for the receptionist to run around shrieking like a banshee into her telephone headset. Not relaxing at all and a very off putting vibe. I think this place is only thriving in Wallingford due to the Choate Rosemary Hall students who come here. Beautiful salon, that not only offers styling services but also most all spa services, a great shop with gift items as well as beauty items, AND a yoga studio! The employees are all wonderful, and the atmosphere is very friendly and inviting. The stylists are always taking new trainings to stay on top of the new trends and ideas, so you can be sure you will get a great cut/color each and every time. I've only been here once but definitely had a good experience. I went for the hair salon services, none of the spa services. It was easy to make an appointment, and when I got there I filled out a profile about my hair, what products I use, and a bit more information to help them understand me. I thought thtat was unique and put me at ease while waiting. The lobby was cute, with nice leather chairs, magazines with organic products, and a lot to browse through as far as retail. I liked that your hair was done downstairs, so people on the street or in the waiting room weren't watching you. The place is nice, and I was a given a tour of the entire facility just for getting a haircut. The price was reasonable, especially since I was given a haircut by a girl who had been with Serenity less than a year. I was assured she was qualified and would be supervised, both of which were true. A supervisor came over after the haircut to triple check everything and ask if I wanted any changes made (which I didn't, she did a great job). Every cut made was done so with my approval, and I even received follow up phone call asking how my hair was falling days after the cut. Stacy has been doing my hair since before she opened Serenity and even though my style has changed many times, whether I wanted to dye the tips of my hair hot pink or chop it all off, I've always been happy with the end result. This past Saturday, myself and nine others visited Serenity as part of a bachelorette party. From start to finish, we were provided with an exceptional experience. I know it can be difficult dealing with large groups but they handled it flawlessly. We were able to bring in our own food and drinks and they had us set up in our own little area in front of the fireplace which was so nice and cozy. We each had a massage, facial, and manicure. Each service was excellent and I was very impressed with how they were able to stay on schedule so that we could be on time for the next part of the day. Jenna did a great job with my massage and I'm still feeling great, even days later. My skin is still SO soft after the facial and I will likely be purchasing some of the products that were recommended. They also went above and beyond by providing the bride with a free shampoo and blow dry so she would have fancy hair for our night out. I highly recommend this spa and salon! read more

I organized a spa party here yesterday and it was amazing!! 5 of us each got a massage, mani, pedi and mini-facial and we all loved everything. I am rejuvenated and my skin feels amazing after the facial. They had a little area downstairs by the fireplace for us to relax in between services and had a table set up for our snacks. They gave us comfy robes to lounge in all day which we really liked. Everyone working there was friendly, helpful and welcoming. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Katie does my waxing and I absolutely adore her. She is very attentive to details and makes sure that the waxed area is perfectly clean. Valentina is my favorite girl here for hair services. She was the one who did my balayage. It was the first time I was coloring my hair and I was very nervous as I have heard horror stories about bad experiences that other people have had. Came to Serenity a couple months ago to get a haircut, and honestly, I've gotten the same quality haircut at salons that charge WAY less. Good thing I had a Groupon, or else this place would not be worth it. The waiting area was decent; I went in around 6, so it was a bit more quiet than some of the reviews I've seen. The receptionist sort of looked at me like she didn't know what I wanted, and wasn't exactly the friendliest. I brushed it off. I met my hair stylist, and she seemed nice enough. Chatted me up, and we had a pretty decent conversation, until I told her that I was growing my hair out from a pixie cut. She said something to the effect of "Wow, what did your boyfriend think when you chopped off all your hair?!" It was incredibly rude and, quite frankly, ignorant. I was taken aback, saying that we had actually met when my hair was at it's SHORTEST. Very much a presumptuous thing to say. The haircut was okay. Didn't look much like what I had pictured, and she put an INSANE amount of product in my hair; I don't think anyone actually wears the amount of product she dumped into it. I headed home and had to wash the wax and spray out of my hair because the smell was completely overwhelming. She was also extremely pushy AFTER I had said I didn't want to purchase any product; this was a complete turn-off and made me feel very uncomfortable. I know that's where they make a lot of their money, but no means no! At the end of the visit, I received a stuffed envelope filled with referral cards and deals for my next visit. A nice gesture... but as someone who works in marketing, it seemed a little desperate. It made me question their experience, and their ability to hold onto consistent clients. After reading the reviews on Yelp, I was extremely excited to book an appointment to get my hair cut at Serenity. As one review stated, it was extremely easy to book an appointment. To confirm, I was given the option of an email confirmation instead of a phone call, which I thought was nice. However, I never received an email nor phone confirmation. They also had me fill out a questionaire while I waited as another review mentioned. This questionaire did ask me a lot about my hair. However, it also asked me to write down my favorite hobbies which I thought was odd. Later, I found out that my answer to this question would be used to facilitate conversation while I was getting my hair cut... When I was done with my haircut, I was given a bag of coupons and referral cards which made me feel like they were in great need of my future business. A few weeks later I also received a Thank You card in the mail with more referral cards and my name spelled wrong (my name is not difficult to spell). I also didn't know which employee it was from because whoever wrote it forgot to sign their name. Overall, my hair cut was great....exactly what I was looking for. However, I found the entire experience awkward and not relaxing. Their marketing strategies are nagging, annoying, and completely unprofessional without any attention to detail. I will not be returning to a Serenity and I really hope I don't receive another referral card in the mail. read more

I got my mom and aunt gift certificates for a half hour massage, pedicure and manicure. They enjoyed their experience at the spa, however, when they paid at the end there was an issue. For the same services that my aunt received, my mom had to pay an additional $10 (on top of her certificate). The receptionist told my mom that the up charge was because the workers who worked on her supposedly had more experience and charge more. I recently went to this spa and had the worst pedicure and manicure ever! I went for a bachelorette party and booked months! MONTHS in advance. As a bridal party we booked the girlfriends package. We thought we would spend the day together during our treatments but we were all separate throughout the day. One bridesmaid waited for an hour before she got her massage. Another bridesmaid did not want a massage (which is part of the package) and the salon would not substitute or accommodate her for another treatment such as a facial or gel manicure or whatever. They had the bridesmaid pay for the massage that she did not want to get anyways since it was booked. This bridesmaid talked to them on the phone prior and they said they would mark it in their notes but when she was there in the salon that day they acted like they never heard of such thing and still made her pay to get the other treatments( manicure, pedicure, blowout, wash). The facility did not have air condition or it was not on and the bride was sweating. On the positive side they said there would have wine, cheese and crackers, and dessert, which they did. BUT they only had one bottle of wine for a party of 8! I received a manicure and asked for a trim and the manicurist snipped my skin and painted my nails very poorly. The pedicurist did an awful job at cleaning my toe nails and scrubbing my heels. The only enjoyable activity was the wash and blowout. I cannot remember her name, but she was very helpful and easy going. She taught me how to curl my hair and which products to use. She knew a lot of information. If it was wasn't for her, I would have not given this salon any stars. I would say go and get your hair done, but don't waste your time otherwise. read more

The messages are great but DON"T EVER get your nails done there. My nails literally looked like my brother did them. I had paint everywhere, they "pretended" to do my cuticles but nothing was trimmed when my nails dried, and when I asked to have my nails evened out before they were painted, they all had ragged edges (not smooth at all). Great spray tan and they opened just for me during a winter storm so that I could tan the day before my wedding! I was leaving very early the next day and they had called to say they were closed due to the storm and wanted to reschedule me. When they found out I was leaving for a wedding they had a coworker who was kind enough to volunteer to come in so that I could spray tan before my destination. The customer service is great and they did a great spray tan..very natural looking and it was my first one. The technician was very professional and the process was not uncomfortable at all. I have gone to Serenity a few times. I worked with Kristen who is no longer there and she did a wonderful cut. I recently went there as part of a bridal party to get hair and makeup done. My hair was done by Brianna and she did very well. My makeup was good, I had brought my own supply of fake lashes and asked if they could apply them and they made such an issue about timing, I understood and said I would do them myself, however the worked it out so someone else would do the lashes for me and a few other girls in the party. Mine came out HORRIBLE, they were hardly on my lash line and too far from the inner corner, they looked awful I just took them off. The woman who did it was friendly and nice I just hated how she did the lashes. When it came time to pay it was so stressful! They expected it to all be paid for by the bride but when we explained we were paying separately they acted like it was the most difficult process in the word. They had to split or bills and would only accept cash, which was also not disclosed prior to service, although if the bride was paying she could have put it all on her card. I'm still unsure as to why it has to be cash only and why it took them so long to figure it out. The stress was definitely ill needed considering it was the wedding day! read more

Awful. I had my hair cut there once and it was mediocre at best. When I received a gift card labeled for $30 I decided to see if the manicure was any better than the haircut. Not even close. I made an appointment for a mani pedi and it was a horrible experience. The pedicure was so horrendous that I had to say something. The young lady graciously offered to redo it and though it was an improvement, it was far from what I would expect from a professional (and it chipped the first day). When I went to pay, I handed over my $30 gift card and my credit card. I found out that my gift card was actually for $150. The woman at the counter thought I should be pleased about the amount confusion because it meant that I had more money to spend. She told me that they reuse the gift cards and that's why it said $30. It's okay to reuse a card, but cross off the old amount and rewrite the correct one! This amount discrepancy caused awkwardness for the gift giver and for me. Additionally, if I had known it was $150 I would have gotten a massage with my sisters whose gift cards were accurately marked. There was no apology from Serenity for the major oversight.
