I really wanted to love this place. I really did. 99% of the girls were awesome and that's what sucks about this review. One of the managers obviously does not know how to do business. After months of spending thousands of dollars getting spa treatments, once a week blowouts with their $60 hair treatment, and on top of that getting my hair colored every six weeks, she treated me like dog sh*t. Apparently she likes to nickel and dime people. Even their loyal customers. When I first got my blowouts, I had asked the stylist to just touch up my ends with the straightening iron. No full head straightening. She was not charging me an extra $30 to do that. None of the stylists were. Because simply they weren't straightening my whole head. Week after a week I would pay the same amount of money for my blowout, unless I got an expensive treatment added on. Well, one day the front desk manager decides to charge me for my blowout an extra I believe $30. I explained to her what I've been getting and what I have been paying. She basically told me that the hairstylists need to be fired. I was wrong. They were wrong and she was right. She didn't even recognize me from when I come in EVERY week. That in itself , was pathetic. It's not about the money for me because obviously I was spending a lot of money at the spa. It was the whole principle of the matter. The fact that she was trying to get that little extra money from me after I told her I've been paying a certain amount of money every week, so sorta threw me for a loop. And the fact that she kept on saying that she was going to fire the hairstylists. I thought that was very unprofessional. Honestly, I think the owner of the spa needs to look into this because she just lost a loyal customer for the business. I know there are a lot of competition around. I just went to another spa and they actually include straightening in their blowouts. Same price. Even though I wasn't even getting my hair totally straightened. I was getting a blowout with touchups with a straightening iron because my hair flips up when I get a blowout. She didn't end up charging me that day, but she said going forward she was gonna charge me. Well obviously, there's no going forward because I canceled all my coloring appointments. The only one that loses is the hairstylists in the situation. But I'm not going to be nickel and dimed by an entitled , control freak of a front desk manager. I took my business elsewhere. I have been going to Serenity for my hair for many years, and am always happy with the results. I haven't had any negative interactions with staff, like people have in many other reviews. I received a gift card for Christmas and decided to treat myself to getting my nails done. When I made the appointment, I said I wanted a full set. When I got to my appointment, I found out I was only scheduled for a shellac manicure. Fine, disappointed but not a huge deal. The person that did my nails was super sweet, but my nails looked terrible. I didn't realize how misshapen they were until later. The polish started breaking off in large chunks after a week. I wish I had taken a picture, but unfortunately I didn't. Same with eyebrows. I tried several times, but my brows were always uneven. This girl knows how to give an amazing massage. She used just the right amount of pressure. She was very kind and professional From the moment we walked in we felt welcomed and comfortable. Absolutely ridiculous services. I made an appointment two weeks ago for today at 11:30. They call at 10:30 and ask me to move my appointment to 12:30 , so to help I agreed. Then I show up at 12:30 and they tell me it's going to be at least another hour maybe more. Then they ask if I can reschedule. I have a wedding on Friday, which is why the appointment was made. My daughter & I go to Serenity regularly for side by side pedicures. They are wonderful and pamper us every time. We usually get the express pedi with scrub. I recommend Erin, she's fantastic! Oh and it's the little things like the neck warmers, ice water (or other drinks), and of course the wonderful massage (with heat) chairs that make it a wonderful experience! I've been going to Kayla for more than 7 years now. She always cuts/styles my hair exactly how I like it. She listens to me and offers HONEST suggestions when she feels that something that I want to do may or may not look/style well. Kayla is super hard to get into see, but when you finally do, it is so worth it. All of that said, some of the front desk staff lately has seemed preoccupied and not as friendly as they used to be. I don't hear personal conversations or anything like that, it's just they seem very busy (overworked??) and that sometimes comes off as "snooty." This is a beautiful salon with friendly and skilled staff. It's apparently full service with hair, makeup, body massage, facials, and nails. It's pretty neat that the models in the canvas photos are actually their customers or the staff members themselves. I'm not sure about price point since it was all taken care of but it's probably pricey because they charged $20 for the eyelashes, which was not included in the bridal package. I mean eyelashes at the store is just $6 just sayin'... This location was very convenient, literally across from the hotel and nearby Sand Creek Country Club where the reception was held at. Our bridal party got our hair and makeup done here and they made us look beautiful. They use Jane Iredale and another brand for makeup. The bride had a trial hair and makeup day prior to the big day so she looked perfect! We were provided with a small room where we could get dressed and eat while they were getting us made up. I just wished they had a bigger table so that we could have put out the food and utensils more easily. After they made us up, there was a photo op area with a ring light and backdrop if you wanted to get a picture. I suggest you check out their website and look at the Serenity Etiquette page, which lists their expectations in order to maintain the spa like feel. First visit to have gel removed & get new manicure. The gel was basically filed off, along with the skin on my fingers. My hands are red & bleeding. Did not have basic color that I wanted; I mentioned I'd like to have a stamp/design ... it was never addressed again. However, the MAIN reason I will not return is that another customer was on her phone the ENTIRE time!!! After her pedicure she got a manicure & went so far as to put ALL of her calls on speaker!! To her husband in the grocery store, then on to business calls where she merged multiple people!! I expressed my disbelief of this behavior to the person waiting on me, as well as, to the person who checked me out & I got an "I'm sorry" ... this other customer is clearly a regular & I could tell by their faces that she does this ALL the time, but NEVER reprimanded for her rudeness. I said SHE will be the reason I don't return. Once I got home, my fingers are red & sore & the paint job is terrible for professionals. I could have done better myself! read more

So today is the first day ever going to salon. I needed a color correction. My hair turned out great considering but I was unaware how much a color correction would cost. I should have been informed how much it would have cost before starting on my hair. Then I had the olaplex treatment done which I didn't ask for. So that probably drove up my bill. I needed someone to repair a poor cut that I had gotten, so I called Serenity and asked who might be able to help me and could they help me today! I was paired with the perfect person ever!! Erin looked at me and immediately had several plans for me to choose from and she had me into a shape and style I love and can easily grow out again! She was so positive and cheerful! An amazing, creative stylist who I will stick with for a very long time! And, she looked at my nails and fixed them up, too!! Hair treatment executed by stylist was excellent; previous appointment for facial was also excellently performed by anesthesist. However, on both appointments, front desk personnel lacked efficiency and failed to deliver good customer service. My facial booking include a Salon incentive of 10% off. I was charged full price and had to return to the desk to get it corrected. I asked for an account credit but had to write a second check. Paying for the hair appointment was frustrating. The clerk barely made eye contact or conversation with me. While doing data entry for my charges, she reprimanded another attendant for incorrect action. She printed a reeipt for herself, conferred with another attendant regarding a discount applied to boutique items, notated and filed the receipt, then shared total charges with me. While I handed her a check, she again spoke to the reprimanded assistant to explain the issues. She accepted my check, filed it, but offered no receipt to me. I received no inquiry to book a future appointment. Why is not customer interaction full attention to the customer transaction the priority of front desk personnel? Why is a high end salon customer of responsible for correct billing as well as return business? read more

Absolutely horrible communication ! I am new to the area and did a lot of research before giving this salon a try . First appointment was great and deep tissue massage ,no complaints . Second appointment, was to get a full set of lashes only to get to the 2-3 hour appointment so the lash tech could tell me they only offer the classic style in which I asked about when making appointment explaining to whomever answers the phone I was looking for a fuller set . So there I was with already hours chipped outta my day so I went ahead and had the service and paid over 200$ not to get what I truly wanted . The third visit was a consultation for hair extensions and a color this appointment went fine . Before I left I made appointment for installation for extensions. 1 or 2 days prior to appointment I received a text to confirm I would be at appointment in which would be a all day affair. I confirmed that I would be there. Day of appointment I got to the salon for them to tell me the appointment was canceled due to no down payment . I explained to them that I had confirmed the appointment via text they had sent me and was told they have no absolutely no control over their text system. No one called to ask for a down payment or called to tell me appointment was canceled. So agin there I was with 6 hours already chipped out of my day not to be getting the services I requested. Made another appointment put money down and received the hair extensions and LOVE them ! Called I think beginning of the week to schedule appointment because I have some matting in the back of my head . I specifically asked the girl who answered the phone if maintenance was included in the price (1500$ ) I had already paid she put me on hold and came back saying it was included in The initial price but if I wanted a wash and a blowout it would be $30. I made appointment. But unfortunately I had to reschedule this appointment when I called they said there would be a 100$/hr for this service . When I inquired about more information about this she put me on the phone with the manager. When" A "came to the phone she began to explain to me that for maintenance would be 100$ /hr and a wash and dry she has no idea what that would cost me that that was determine by the stylist her self. I tried to explain to "A" that that is not what a girl said when I made the appointment. I just don't understand how one day maintenance is free and comes with the installation another day it's $100 an hour. Also, when I tried to explain to her this is not the first miscommunication we had she said yet again ( because I called about the lashes as well) that they are trying . This infuriates me because this is high maintenance salon not supposed to be ran like a cut and dash salon . I expected to have best communication when I am paying the top prices ! Now here I am stuck with matted hair and now need to pay tons of money for upkeep . Yes I am aware that hair extensions are a lot of upkeep and therefor might be a lot of money to maintain but the communication should be cut and dry not so wishy washy! My daughter and I purchase 2 Relax and Renew spa packages which include massage, facial, manicure and pedicure. We booked appointments 5 weeks ago. We took the day off work and the morning of our appointment we were called and told only one of us could get a pedicure or we could reschedule. We told them we couldn't reschedule because we had taken time off work. We asked if we could get a refund for the 1 pedicure we couldn't get and we would just keep our appointments. We were told yes. After the services were done they told us they would only refund the pedicure on a gift card. We explained that it was them that cancelled not us. They still would only put on gift card. Stay away. This "salon" is a joke. There isn't a chance in hell that I would ever come back. My mother told me she has a Serenity gift card and I told her I would pay her not to use it. Serenity can go ahead and consider that a donation. There are so many things wrong with this place I could write a novel. From the garbage customer service to scheduling issues to pushy product sales; I'm honestly shocked there aren't more scathing reviews. I came in for a haircut. When I scheduled it I was very clear that I have heat damage/short breakage to work around and it would be a challenge. I was willing to pay for an extra long slot to allot time for an in depth consultation before cutting. The stylist was fantastic and so incredibly kind. She genuinely cared and I hope she leaves this place for a higher caliber salon. Unfortunately though we ran out of time and her next appointment arrived. So I was dismissed with wet hair, half a haircut, and an appointment for the next day with a different stylist to finish up. As I'm visibly crying and trying to leave, the receptionist has the audacity to look me in the face and ask if I'm okay and if I would like some free shampoo samples. No?? But a tissue would be nice?! Absolutely insulting, how would samples help this situation? Who taught these people anything about customer service? I come back the next day and long story short; Yemina is an asshole and probably just needs to retire already. She retrieved me from reception 10 minutes late and told me she only had 30 minutes left. I said it's not enough time, and after yesterday, I'm good I'll see myself out. She actually pulled out her business card and told me she has 30 years of experience, shes been cutting hair longer than I've been alive, she's not like the other stylist who has only been on the floor a few months. lol okay. I want to start off by saying the service received at Serenity is fabulous - facial and massage, but what happened afterwards has me not wanting to return. This happened to me 2 times this year. First time I purchased a facial gift certificate for my mom's birthday ($95) and she had given me a gift certificate ($300) for Christmas. The service was wonderful - perfect for a mom daughter day. Then we went to pay and there was no money on my moms gift certificate. They require 1/2 down and a 48 hour cancellation notice. Well they used her card for the 1/2 down for both and my gift certificate went on an account which they could not find and was wanting us to pay more. It was so confusing and felt like a shell game - very much ruining our experience. The second time same exact thing - prior to our facial (or mind you I would have went somewhere else), I bought a couples massage for my husband and I - anniversary gift ($340). Again the massages were fabulous but then we went to pay again NO money on card. They couldn't even find when I purchased the card which stayed in out drawn in its envelope until we were to use it. It seems as if both my gift certificates were put on accounts but they still wanted us to pay for the service. After 15 minutes of arguing- and I do not like confrontation but I sure dislike loosing money more - they found the other account and paid from there - heck they even looked in my moms account- why is beyond me - just a part of the shell game. I feel if I wouldn't have stuck to my guns they would have more of our money. Our family spent a lot of money on gift certificates almost $1200 - at Serenity for the holidays. We still have $406 between my husband and I. Needless to say we are not looking forward to going back. read more

Whomever this front desk person is, she should be fired. She is the face of your business and the first person your clients see. Coming off with a snobby attitude like your salon is in NYC is a laugh for being in Chesterton, IN. And I love Chesterton! That behavior isn't acceptable anywhere...even NYC! So get off of your high horse and treat your clients with respect or you will soon not have a business. This goes for anyone serving the public...If a doctor's receptionist and/or staff are nasty and unprofessional, I will complain. Finally an all-in-one salon for hair, nails, facials and massage. I can't wait to go back and try their other services. Got a haircut with Olivia...she did such a great job, my hair looks and feels so healthy. The interior and ambience is calming and clean. They have chairs that you can elevate your legs up while they wash your hair and they even provide a relaxing scalp massage before they rinse. From the start of the service to the end was quite comfortable and relaxing. This month for nurses they are giving 30% off for new services...what a great deal to experience all the services they provide!! read more

The manicure I had done was so incredibly sloppy. My nails were not filed evenly and some of the edges were jagged. Then the dazzle dry nail polish was not evenly applied and two nails had small bubbles in them. The tech also did not clean up underneath the nail or get my cuticles good. However, she was nice but the finished product was definitely a disappointment, especially because my family and I were getting our nails done for my brother's wedding. read more

I have to say that this place is impeccably decorated and designed! It reminds me of the salons that I went to when I lived in Chicago--but better! I don't really go "all-in" for spa experiences, but I get my hair cut here and I really like the job, Kelly, my "Stylist" (I guess is her title), does for me. When you go in, they offer you water, coffee or tea, so that's pretty nice. They take your coat, and then you go into the back room where they cut the hair. Like I said, I get pretty picky about my hair, and Kelly cuts it the way I like (doesn't take too much off the top) so it looks good, and usually lasts me a good month and a half. Bring cash for a tip, as you can't add it to the credit card! read more

My wife went in for a massage, I had Lisa for mine. From the greeting at the door to the departure this was a very nice experience. I got a great massage, I had the half hour massage and Lisa concentrated on my back per my request. Really felt great afterwards. I will definitely go back and get the full hour next time. Do not recommend and will not be returning. The only positive I can say about this place was the massage. I had purchased a package to use with my mother and scheduled it over a month out. The day comes and I receive a call saying I cannot receive part of my package because they didn't have anyone available to do that service. Over the phone I was informed I could receive a refund for the price of this service since I will not be receiving it. When I get there and spoke to the manager, I was informed they could only give me credit or I can reschedule which defeats the purpose of getting a package and going out for a "girls day". When confronted about being told I could get a refund, they denied it. Not only did they steal from me, the manicure was rushed and not done well (I paid to upgrade the polish and they were chipping within a few days) and my facial left my skin in terrible condition despite informing them of my allergies and sensitivities and being told that it wouldn't be a problem. Not only this, after I did receive some of my services that day they were telling me I had to purchase take home products they had used during the facial. The items were apparently already in my chart and they wanted payment. I never agreed to this. Seems like they were trying to take more money for me despite already doing so. VERY unsatisfied. I went in to get a full leg wax and a brazillian - I came out with hair still left on all parts. Needless to say, I was disappointed. I went back in 4 days later to get the rest removed (which was included in the price) however, there were STILL hairs left over. For $160, I expected to be hairless. If for some reason my hair wasn't long enough at the time (which was not mentioned by the esthetician but I can only assume after the experience) I should have been told so. I would have waited longer and grew my hair out a little more instead of blowing so much money on a sub par job. I will NOT be going back. As a positive, everyone there was very nice and friendly. I moved to Indiana a couple years ago and needed to find a stylist that would be of the same caliber and quality as I have been accustomed to... I was THRILLED to find Serenity Salon and Spa, but even more THRILLED to have met Yemina...  She has amazing talents in the realm of hair coloring, cutting and extensions.
