Their cake is just OK, nothing special. but one of staff who took my order was so RUDE. I don't know if she still works there. She was the worst person I've seen in this kind of place. My husbands all time favorite sweet treat is White Chocolate Chip Macadamia Nut Cookies, so for Valentines Day I ordered him two dozen cookies. When I picked up my order I didn't think to open the box, or eat a cookie to inspect my order. On Valentines Day to my husbands confusion (and my utter disappointment), he opened the box and find 24 plain White Chocolate Chip cookies, completely void of macadamia nuts. The cookies were a total waste, as the macadamia nuts add the perfect complexity of flavor and texture to otherwise boring white chocolate chip cookies. I called Serpe & Sons to inquire why my order of White Chocolate Chip Macadamia Nut cookies were made without macadamia nuts and was told that the bakery simply ran out of macadamia nuts and their weekly order didn't contain any and there was nothing they could do about it. Their excuse and way of handling this was laughable to say the least. They easily could have purchased macadamia nuts from a local grocery store, or at the very least called and asked if I would like to switch to a different flavor or cancel my order. Needless to say, I had a strong feeling of schadenfreude when I read a raging fire destroyed their Wilmington bakery on Christmas Eve. *Full disclosure, this review is for an order placed in February of 2013. never will be back to this rude, no customer service having place agn! i ordered my cake 2weeks ago told them i need it ready by 10am for a 12pm party! i get there at 930am waited in line till 10am to be told it's not ready we have it ready in 15min, i sat in my car for 20min came back in now i'm being told it will be ready in a hour!! i am so mad, had to walk away cause i was about to cuss them out!! i had so much to do !! a simple call would of made a big difference!! so i wouldn't of wasted my time, then they get a attitude with me!!! didn't get my cake till 1130!!! never will do business with these rude people agn!! and they took 10$ off , another customer was waiting a long time for her cake also!! they lost a loyal customer!! . i put up a bad review and they deleted it twice!!i will be telling all my family and friends!! read more

Serpe's bakery has a great atmosphere. I have been in the area for a littke under a year and Have enjoyed the tasty treats there, but the other day I over heard who I presume to be the boss yelling at one of his high school workers. Very unprofessional for representing a small family owned business. Definitely will take a break on it until I hear about managerial changes. read more

Where to start...... I typically don't write reviews, but based on the same experience on numerous occasions, I feel compelled to write this one. I come to Serpe's for their excellent pastries and donuts called longjohns. They are excellent! Unfortunately, the customer service has pushed me to the point of finding somewhere else to get my fix. Because they often run out of longjohns, I will call ahead to make sure it's not a wasted trip. I am immediately put it on hold, and have never waited less than 10 minutes for someone to take my call. On one occasion I asked them to put to the side for me. I still had to wait in line for 10 minutes to pay, only to find they had given me jelly donuts, not longjohns (which have pastry cream filling). Ugh. Today, I was on hold for over 15 minutes. I'm now waiting in line as I write this review......15 minutes and counting! There are no prices readily visible, so one has to ask the price of individual items. I take these reviews seriously, and realize this one may negatively impact their business. Normally, I am in staunch advocate of local businesses, so my sincere hope is that this review will get their attention and motivate them to make some changes. read more

We think the cakes at Serpes are the best in Delaware! Even comparing to the fancy bakeries and we've tried them all for cakes (pound cake, layer cake). Our favorite is Red Velvet cake with the cream cheese icing it is by far the most delicious cake you've ever tasted. read more

I was visiting from California and needed to order a graduation cake for my daughter. Was so pleased with the cake when it arrived in PA for the party. It was beautiful. The right school colors and very nice graduation touch. The cake had a raspberry filling that cut down on the frosting and was delicious. My daughter even commented on the decorations added to the cake. We were very pleased with our decision to order from Serpes in Wilmington. read more

Stopped by the bakery today for Christmas cookies for upcoming holiday party. I went on my lunch break and it was not very crowded (which I was happy about). They are very organized and funnel the patrons through an ordering process. There is a large variety of options and I chose a pre arranged large cookie tray ($66.00 a little pricey). I hope they are worth it. One complaint I have is that once the store clerk leaves to help next patron and you are sent to the register don't think about adding anything additional. I wanted to add several of the larger cookies and a few half moon (black and whites) that I didn't see initially and was told I would have to wait in line again. Not sure why someone couldn't help by boxing up a few more cookies. Very disappointed by the lack of customer service. read more

worst experience ever the designer's were never there supposably and the people who answered the phone were rude. I had gone a week in advance and they told me the designer wasn't in but she would get back to me.I waited four days for them and the whole time I was sending e-mails of the cake design I ended up calling them and they told me they never received the e-mails so I resend them and finally they received it so I asked if they were able to make it, she told me the designer wasn't in and she didn't know if they were able to by then I was fed up so I told them to cancel the order later that day the designer called told me they could make it for $120 then when I called back to pay they told me $130 I told them what I was told by the designer they said they made a mistake and I had to pay $130 I just told them to forget it. It wasnt worth all the hassle they had put me through. Thank God for the Master Bakers in west chester they made my cake with three days notice. read more

I was just in there and the thin girl with long dark hair has no customer service skills. I asked for one dozen small steak rolls in a plastic bag. I went up to pay and she had them in a brown bag with a plastic bag on top. I ask her to put them in a plastic bag, she said I put a plastic bag in the bag. This isn't the first time this has happened. I called the manager/owner and he said the employee said you didn't say you wanted them in plastic bag. Our policy is order them the way you want them. Which I DID, the employee didn't tell the truth. If she did why was there a plastic bag in the bag?????? This bakery needs improvement on Customer Service!!! wow... girl on the phone gave me an attitude as soon as she answered. I was placing a simple order over the phone and when I asked if i could pay with a credit card in advance because i was not going to be the one picking up the order, the girl asked for the credit card number and while i was literally grabbing the card off the coffee table right in front of me and said "ok, hold on" she said "nope!" and hung up on me... i called right back and she picked up the phone and hung up instantly without saying "hello." (obviously she saw the caller ID)... I was totally nice and polite and have ordered from there many times over the years. My girlfriend who was sitting beside me called from her cell and asked the same girl if she could speak to the manager and she said there was no manager there.... last time i will EVER order anything from there. I hope they make what I ordered and they can sit there when nobody shows up to pick them up.... oh and FYI, Larry "the manager" apparently only works till 2pm and then leaves the shop in the hands of rude unprofessional jerks.... peace out read more
