Probably best to call and make sure the gates will be open before you make the trip (760-990-4762). The selection of plants is a bit overwhelming. One could easily buy a truck load. I wish the plants were better marked, I would have probably bought more. They are not priced either (there is a general price guide but limited)but if you can get one of the owners to walk with you to the plants in question, they will provide a wealth of information. I think they are probably more geared to wholesale sales to landscape professionals than to small garden hobbyists like myself. The prices are not give away, but very fair. In addition I got some kind of discount that was worth 15%, and to top it all off I got a gift plant priced at $15. This place rocks! If you are in need of succulents, definitely worth a trip. We happened to be coming back from Temecula (to SD), so I planned to stop by before they closed for the day. We specifically wanted aloe (front yard turf replacement), and we did not leave disappointed. First of all the selection is very, very good. If you have ever been to Exotic in UniHeights, it's like that but, oh, about 5000x bigger. The prices are great, for example their 1 gallon plants are either $6.50 or $10.50, versus Home Depot for $14.98 or Lowe's for $16.98 (I definitely shop around!). And when we visited they were having a sale so about half the plants we purchased were $4, such a deal. Again, the selection is great. Definitely much greater than any standard nursery, or garden center at a big box store. And the staff seems very knowledgeable, so if you are new to succulents, they can help guide you. They had all the different aloes I was searching for, and we even found a new crazy succulent I hadn't seen before. I usually don't see new ones at this point, so that was definitely a plus! They do take credit cards, and have big swatches of paper to try and save your car from the dirt when you buy plants. read more

This place is awesome and Beth who helped us was fantastic. They have a great selection of succulents at fantastic prices. Beth was extremely patient with us as we spent 3 hours picking out our plants and very knowledgeable about all the plants. We wanted to buy more plants but we couldn't get anymore to fit in our car. They have a great selection of succulents at very good prices, especially when compared to the "big box" stores. And then there are sales with even better prices on select plants. Ordered online a few months ago. Received large, unusual plants with a lot of individual personality, which are still doing well even though I was new to growing succulents when I got them. Well-packaged enough that a really fragile plant arrived 99% intact. Sellers were communicative about the process of shipping. Since they primarily seem to sell plants intended for landscaping there were some minor issues which haven't come up for me when ordering houseplants before, like filling out a little bit of extra regulatory paperwork after they arrived in California. I ordered a few dozen plants from cacti.com (Serra Gardens online presence). The plants arrived quickly and each was carefully wrapped and labeled. I appreciated that they included in the shipment care instructions, invoice and a personal note of thanks. It felt like they took great care when packaging the order - in fact it felt like Christmas morning as I unwrapped the packages. The plants themselves were inexpensive compared to other sources and generously sized. Because the plants are shipped 'dry root' I made an effort to get them into soil and water them the same day. If you are ordering online be sure to reserve enough of your own time to do the same. My only complaint was that several of the softer plants arrived somewhat damaged. For example each of the four Agave Attenuata I ordered had several broken leaves and are still looking pretty bad a month later. On the other hand the more rigid plants seemed to arrive without damage. Additionally I think the dry root process must be stressful for the plants as several looked a little peaked compared to similar varieties I already own. These same plants seem now to be recovering. Overall I would order from them again - tho I wish they had more of a variety online to choose from - if so I'd order a lot more. read more

This is about their Website cacti.com. I purchased 6 plants from them a few months back. The garbage that arrived was shocking. Horrible quality. Of the 6 only 2 survived (1 barely and looks destined for the compost bin). I have purchased plants from other sites before and never had a problem. But I would stay away from these guys. read more

I have never been more disappointed by such POOR QUALITY of online goods, even plants. I received my order of 4 Agaves 2 days after I ordered them but one agave had dried ends - 2 inches deep - and its a 1 gallon plant. The other 3 also had dried, twisted leaves, and I would never have selected these at a live nursery. How could these have been shipped out? If you have nothing of quality to sell, then delay the order until something good is available. In person, I know no one would have chosen the dried up things I got - they look like the ones that get tossed in the trash. I have never had such a bad experience online, and will NEVER buy from you again. No wonder they tossed in a 5th agave free. The public should consider themselves warned from your online dis-service. When I got to Serra Gardens I was greeted by their two dogs. The dogs were happy and bouncy. I walked up the path and owner Beth came out to say hi. I asked a few questions and she called out to her husband Dan who took me thru every square inch of the property. He seemed like a walking encyclopedia on all the desert plants and cactus. So glad I took time to finally stop by on a trip home from OC. Definitely drop by if you are looking for healthy plants or hard to find species. Loved my experience with them. read more
