Lately, it feels like Service Stars' prices have gone through the roof, and unfortunately, my recent experience was extremely disappointing. Two weeks ago, they came out to fix a bathroom tub leak. I was charged $1,300 to replace the cartridge, handle, and spout. The parts cost around $250, and the job should have taken less than an hour, but they stayed for about four hours because they kept getting the wrong parts. They came back last week because the tub was still leaking. This time, they said I needed to replace the shower base where the cartridge goes and quoted me $3,400. I declined and asked them to put everything back together, but the leak was actually worse afterward. What bothered me most was the lack of transparency. I asked for a breakdown of the charges and was essentially told, "That's just what we charge." After almost spending nearly $4,700, I feel I could have had the entire tub area remodeled by another company. I also recently tried to cancel my membership and learned that it's a one-year contract and that canceling early may require paying back the discounts. That was not my understanding when I signed up. I'm extremely disappointed with the pricing, communication, and lack of transparency. I'll be taking my business elsewhere and looking for a company with fair pricing and clear, honest billing. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Service Stars based on my experience. read more

Deceptive business practices. Technician convinced us to sign up for service contract by saying it would equal a discount on services greater than the annual cost, but he never even fixed our AC issues, just cleaned one unit and said he didn't have the parts in his truck and it would be several more days until we could get on the schedule. After calling for days they finally sent someone who kept trying to sell us a new system. Told them to add freon to see if it fixed the issue...they said to even diagnose a leak it would be $1500. Declined that and said just try adding freon. Added the freon and issue fixed. Thank goodness we didn't listen to them about the new system! Tried to cancel the recurring contract when it expires and was told I have to wait until the month before, which is 11 months from now. I'm sure they do that so that you'll forget. This was after they said they cancelled it...called back to say they can't post date it. Stay away from this company!! read more

I have an old fuse box from the 1950s with some plumbing directly over it. The electrician came out and charged 175 For a 15 minute consultation. The plumber (mark cuck) pulled up in an identical truck and uniform and informed me that I could cut a water filter in front of my fuse box if I don't drink the water. He was here for about 5 minutes and stuck his hand out for a separate 175 dollar check. all together my wife payed 350 for absolutely nothing........ Don't do it read more

During the recent heat spell, the AC died. We called and they told us that maybe someone could show up after hours when they were done with their regular work assignment but it would have to be at a cost of $199 just to show up after hours. We needed it so no problem. A very nice gentleman showed up at 5:41 (timestamp on my door opener) They close at 6pm. After trying to sell us on a membership, (my wife told him to work on the issue and we could discuss the membership afterwards), he went about and found a bad capacitor on the unit. He mentioned that the capacitor is usually the issue with the unit being over 10yrs old. He replaced it within minutes and again tried to sell us on a membership but we held off. He then proceeded to give us a bill for $791.94, saying the standard rate for that was $592.94. He said it was a flat rate. I paid the bill. After he left we checked online and found that the capacitor lists for $83 and $103 dollars. I called the office the next day, asking about their rates and a women she said that a boss would call me back. This has yet to happen. No callback, nothing. we had a low level emergency with our boiler and called Service Stars at 8am. They were able to have someone out at our place by 11am to save the day! Jack was fantastic-- he explained things to us about our boiler that we never knew. He was thorough and worked fast. When he left, our hot water and heat were both working better than they have in years. He even went above and beyond to make friends with my annoying dog. Our appt window was from 8-10am, and Eric showed up at 9am. We had a laundry list of items to be done immediately, and some things that would have to be done later so needed quotes. Eric patiently listened to each item, advised the cost and with the go-ahead, went straight to work. Since most of our items were things to be done in the future, he suggested a club membership. For a $29/mo fee, service fees were reduced to $69, tune ups for a/c were include (after 6 mo), tune ups for heating system were included after a year as well as plumbing and electrical inspections. Warranty was doubled, priority given on service calls and 15% discount on current repairs and future repairs. So for today's visit alone, I saved ~$50. What I didn't know was they also do electrical work, which I'm sure I will need in the near future. Expense aside, Eric was a pleasure to have. I would strongly recommend you give them a chance and see for yourself. read more

A friend is getting quotes on a new heating system and called these guys out for whatever reason. They're nuts. Gave 4 quotes and their cheapest was thousands higher than the second highest company of all the quotes. The best part is when he asked about equipment specs they told him they can't give info on it as they haven't figured that stuff out yet. WHAT?!?!? How are these guys handing out multiple estimates on new equipment but don't even know what equipment brands and BTUs they're gonna install? And they want 18k-30k of his money? Lmao. Don't use these guys. They're swindlers. Over charging anyone they can also trying to sell things people don't need. read more

They were very helpful on the phone in helping me think through the right path forward. Unfortunately, they couldn't schedule me for over a month. I decided to still schedule since they had great reviews. Fast forward, they had to reschedule the day of the planned visit because the technician was sick. Totally understandable. I have a little one at home and a pregnant wife so was very grateful that they thought to call and protect our family. They rescheduled for the next day and apologized for the inconvenience. Had an issue with my Central Air Conditioning. Called to schedule an appointment and was able to get one the same day. Service Stars arrived and diagnosed the issue promptly. Explained the work that needed to be done and performed it quickly. The AC unit is over 10 years old and the recommendations/advice given was greatly appreciated for extending the life of it. Beware, the only reason they are getting one star is because I can't give zero. I've had nothing but trouble from day 1 with heat pumps service stars installed. Fins in two units fell off for no reason (of course they accused me of breaking them both the exact was way) it took YEARS for them to make good on it. One system is leaky from the get go. They've "fixed" the leak and recharged the system at different times. This year it is still blowing hot. They wouldn't do anything without a fee "out of warranty" I guess after enough time they get to wash their hands of their shoddy work without making it right. I refuse to give them any more money so I hired another hvac contractor to look at it. Wouldn't you know, they had marked inside the side panel "leak fixed here" and go figure, it's still leaking Right there where they supposedly fixed it. The owner wouldn't talk to me even though I requested he call back, he made his manager do it and who told me it's not their fault that the system is leaking, it just happens. Installed new coil and outside compressor. Didn't call me to schedule install - I had to chase them. Coil duct work miss-alignment by 1in using flexible coupling causes duct restriction - installer & manager didn't even acknowledge problem. New system didn't fix my issue- upstairs zone will still not cool below 74. Superheat on new system was only 2 degrees- way below manufacturers guidelines. I had called to set up an initial inspection for a plumbing job I needed to have done. On the initial call I asked if they offered financing to which they said yes, and this is why I chose to set up the appointment. I had to pay the $90 for the initial inspection which I had no issue with. After the visit and all information was discussed, the individual called the loan provider and then called me back reporting "they don't finance for landlord tenant relationships." So on my first call I made a point to ask a question regarding financing, with no questions asked of me only to be told after the visit I paid for, that they could not finance the job. The employee they sent out was great, but then he referred to me to his supervisor: Marisa. I explained the situation and why I felt I should be reimbursed the cost of the visit. Marisa replied telling me that I was supposed to tell them that I was a landlord, which if Marisa knew anything about being a company, YOU are responsible for asking questions regarding the service YOU provided. So to start she tried to blame me for their mistake. So I told her why I wanted my reimbursement to which she said "sometimes we don't have time to answer two million questions on the phone." So this "supervisor" took my concern about 1 question, and exaggerated that into 2 million... again, to blame me for their mistake.
