I contacted ServiceMaster on an early Sunday morning after a negative experience with another well-known company the day before. Unlike the other company, ServiceMaster responded promptly to my request, came out to my property, and provided a meticulously detailed estimate for their drying services. Their quote was reasonable--about one-third of the price quoted by the other company (whose estimate was not only unreasonably high but also inaccurate). Insurance connected me to Service Master in San Diego for water damage in my home. The damage happened 3 weeks before a trip so quick mitigation was important. Initially they were responsive but as the days passed the "project manager" (and i use that term loosely) was less and less responsive. Only when i requested another contact did he briefly start responding to my texts. Service master was supposed to take care of the repairs as well upon my return but again poor responses to direct messages. They eventually sent someone to assess the repair, an assessment that was already completed after the mitigation, further delaying repairs. Insurance confirmed that there was nothing to be approved by them for repairs. I contacted another company to do my repairs and was scheduled same day they came by for assessment. The team that performs the mitigation and the team that performs the repair do not communicate with each other. The people in the office and the PM do not communicate with each other. Perhaps I misunderstood the scope of the project manager, but i essentially had to manage it myself. I think once they receive payment from the insurance they basically do not do anything unless you call and call and call. If your insurance recommends Service Master i do NOT recommend you go with them. I had a terrible experience. read more

I wish like other companies who did remediation on homes following the Eaton fire that they had done a walk-through with me to make sure that all areas were cleaned (the ones that they did clean were done well, but they missed things) . I continue to find areas that had not been cleaned and recently when I opened a cabinet in the garage, it was so filled with ash that I had a coughing attack for several minutes and had to go into the house. The worst part was that when I notified them by text and sending pictures, they ignored me repeatedly. Johnny and his coworker were awesome-they were professional, clean, prompt, and great with communication. The pricing also seemed very fair for the work done. They came out within an hour of our after hours call on Friday and started work the very next day. We suffered a flood during a terrible time when my 100% service related veteran spouse was and is in terminal cancer treatment. As a result we have been isolating because he is immunocompromised. I relied on Service Master because they were a preferred Allstate company and others who suffered the same flood were using them. BUT be forewarned not only did they destroy our granite counter tops and kitchen cabinets which I specifically told them should be saved. They lied about it. I was told that they followed my instructions and they did not. All of the granite has to be replaced because they broke it and significant parts are missing. They also trashed all the cabinets except a few doors. I repeatedly told Anthony Murray to preserve these items and he assured me that they were following my instructions (yes ma'am is what he said again and again). This was a bald faced lie. And Dan Miller is the man in charge. DO NOT USE this company they use a sledgehammer rather than follow instructions or explain why they can't. Although our insurance company denied our claim, we decided to get a mold mitigation service from them. The project manager, Manny was very friendly and helpful. He made sure we understand everything correctly and ensure their service quality. Our experience with them was good. They answered all my questions very promptly. Other people in their review mentioned about "kids came to do a job". Did they send very young men to demolish existing floors? - YES Did they do what they suppose to do? - YES Does demolishing the floor requires tons of skill and 10+years experience? - NO Am I happy with the result? - YES To me, it doesn't matter who performed the job as long as they do what they suppose to do. My landlord contacted Dan after a rainstorm caused my bedroom ceiling to cave in, flooding the room and all of my furniture and possessions. Dan quickly made an appointment for an exact time - no two to four-hour window. He let me know exactly what time he would be here. When I called him a half hour before the appointment, saying I had just been in a car accident, he replied, "You sound distressed. I'm in the neighborhood anyway; I'll come to the accident site and lend you support." And he did. While being a great guy goes a long way, you also need great service and excellent workmanship. Dan provides both. He came the next day exactly on time to assess the damage and was communicative throughout the process. Work was scheduled for a few weeks out when I learned that the car accident may have broken my back. On a Wednesday, I learned that my test results would be in the following Wednesday to see if, in fact, my back was broken. An after-hours text to Dan was sent simply asking if the repairs could be started sooner so that I could recuperate in my home comfortably - because we all know the damage and havoc a flood wreaks upon a home. Furniture is displaced, debris is everywhere, and everything you own needs to be replaced. Dan dispatched a highly qualified and professional team to my home Friday night in order to have the bedroom restored and put back together by the time I would return home from the hospital the following Wednesday. Of course, drywall cannot be completed in 5 days, but his team came in and did the work. Not only did they do the work, but they did it at a 10 out of 10 rating. Needless to say, I was in great pain and bedridden. They were kind and professional people overall. They moved my furniture for me and were sensitive to the fact that I was in pain, taking great measures to be as unintrusive as possible. While my journey with Dan and his team at ServiceMaster clearly involves my personal journey, I say without hesitation that the level of responsiveness and timeliness is greatly appreciated. And what's most important to all of us is the quality of the work. The quality, responsiveness, and timeliness of ServiceMaster's work are 15 out of 10. This company is currently repairing our neighbor's house and they are blasting music (from the homeowners entertainment system) so loud that our windows are rattling and we can't hear our own TV. There's no way our neighbor would be okay with his equipment being used like this. They've also blocked the entire driveway (it's shared between multiple houses) with their truck despite not having to park it blocking everyone. No consideration for people around them and with that sort of attitude, I wouldn't trust them inside my house. Big thumbs down. read more

We contracted them to dry out the damage caused by a malfunctioning washing machine. Much of my experience may have to do with the small size of the job - we ended up self-paying. We also did not use them for the drywall repair work, since it was sufficiently compact that we could do it ourselves. Ultimately most of their work involved installing a large dehumidifier on the first floor and shooting air into the space beneath the laundry room above. It took a bit over 3 days from installation to removal. Overall, the dryout was adequately done. However, there were some major issues with the estimation / billing processes: 1. The initial estimate was way, way high - in particular, it involved putting two sizeable pieces of equipment together inside a tiny laundry room. I was actually able to mostly dry out the room on my own with a small space heating fan between the time they provided the estimate and when they installed the equipment. 2. Their estimate included more than $200 to haul away one pickup truck's worth of debris. When they made the estimate, they marked maybe 5 sqft of drywall on the ceiling to remove. Even accounting for the plastic barriers etc. they could have been no more than one normal garbage bag worth of debris (and no hazmat insulation - this is a relatively new house). I brought this up to the estimator, and they said it was a standard charge but they would waive it if I would sign a hold harmless agreement, acknowledging it was our responsibility to deal with the mess. Fair enough, I agreed to sign. However, when they sent the document to sign, it was a completely different hold harmless (saying I requested removal of the equipment before they said it was done). I pointed this out, and it took several tries before they got an agreement to me that actually matched what they originally said they wanted me to sign. 3. When they sent the final estimate after everything was done, the debris charge was still there (they did send a revised version removing it after I pointed it out). They had also, in my opinion, overstated the amount of time the machines were here. They used some aggressive rounding to get from 3 days to 4 - claiming in part they were onsite earlier than I believed them to be (but I can't prove it). Also, the removal time was somewhat padded because the crew was later than they indicated they would be - I remember they said they'd come early in the morning and I arranged to be there to meet them, but it ended up being much later in the day. In the end I caved on the extra time since I didn't have any proof of their actual arrival time or when they said they would remove the equipment. This company was referred to us by our insurance provider, so they may be accustomed to the "someone else is paying" mentality. Overall I'm not unhappy with the actual work, but the amount of time / headaches dealing with their office are not something I want to repeat. Had I blindly accepted their estimates without reviewing carefully, I would have easily spent at least $1,000 more. If you do go with them, I'd recommend: (1) Get another estimate if you can. (2) Understand what equipment they are proposing to bring in (I was able to find some good information with a Google search) (3) Carefully record the times that the crews are on-site, and the timings of any planned visits as well (I'd probably document by sending notes to their estimators - helps establish that you're paying attention) read more

Worst contractor ever, I dont have the option to give them a O, but they are a -0. Get everything in writing, Scott Webb's word means nothing. His sub-contractors all come from T.J. and have the worst skills. Had to fire ServiceMaster, due to breach of contract. This is a example of the work and mess they left me. I was attempting to include pictures, but couldn't on Yelp. All construction trash was left inside and outside the house. The tile installed had about a 1 1/2 inches gap by the walls. They used tub caulking on the drywall seams, which is now discoloring. Our insurance gave us a allowance of $966.00 for vanity, they said we only had $520.00, but before we could locate a vanity they attempted to build one with rusted hardware and damaged particle board. I was charged for electrical wiring for recessed lighting, contractor dry walled over wires in ceiling. I can continue to go on, but I will not have enough room to write down the incompetence of this contractor. The worst problem they had was the lack of communication to me the customer and with their own sub-contractors. I fired them and the next day they forced themselves into my home, I am assuming they made a copy of my key. I had to get my door locks changed out. I am paying other contractors to redo everything they charged me for, all I can say is they suck! P.S. I was finally able to upload pictures, pictures don't lie. Don't go through the frustration that I had to go through. The old saying is true, you start wrong you end wrong. All this contractor was interested in was the profit he was going to make, Scott Webb attempts to come across as a good Christian, but his business morals and righteousness that he displays is the opposite. read more

One star review is too many !!! My insurance company (Farmers) referred me to Service Master . They put me in touch with Daniel Miller. He was very prompt, and took a focus approach to the mitigation of drying out the studs that were water damage inside my home. No one could tell me where the water damage came from? Day #1 Daniel sent out two very young, inexperienced kids to set up the dehumidifiers and fans. They open up the drywall. One very small section was damaged, the other section not much at all. Because their monitor showed moisture, they couldn't tell me how long the drying out process would take ? I received a phone call from Service Masters telling me I needed to pay an additional $345 to detach my dishwasher to see if there was water damage behind dishwasher. I told them that it was included in the contract for $74.67. I was told that was not added in . So mad that I trusted them and paid the additional $345 !!!! What a rip off !!! Four days later a different pair of young , unprofessional individuals showed up to remove the fans and dehumidifier. The youngster who looked 12 told me over and over that bad things happen and good things will come of it ??? I didn't ask for a philosopher ??? They were clueless!!! There was NO debris removal that I paid for ! All they did was remove equipment! I asked about the dishwasher and water reconnection, they said they had nothing to do with that ! I contacted Daniel, he said to contact Andres (contractor?) and he would reconnect my dishwasher. Never heard back from Andres or Daniel ! I'm so upset with myself that I trusted these morons!!! What a disappointment! Also so disappointed with Farmers Insurance!!! They are all deceptive, con artist !!! Please stay away from Service Masters Absolute!!! Don't make the mistake that I did . Trusting people that you think are legitimate and are far from that ! Service master san diego came recommended by my ins- State Farm. This is my first ( hopefully last) flood. Initially, response and work led by Anthony were prompt and good. I gave a very good Yelp review. Then came the restoration with Javier as SM lead. Sub contractor Andres is an "interesting" person- don't believe anything he says. Andres staff- sub-subs??) would show up late in the day, stay 2-4hrs and of course take their 1hr lunch break. My fridge/freezer was used without permission. Don't leave brand new brushes around- they will be gone. Under Andres work has been poor & sloppy- things left unfinished. Repeatedly he would say how much he has done for me- even though he was paid. He & Javier whined that they had hu dress of job going on- then WHY accept another?? Look at the contract VERY CAREFULLY!! In my case, they submitted for things they did not do- that is fraud! Work at my home is not finished 5.5mos later. Yesterday I had someone who has worked with flooring 40yrs- an HONEST person, come to look at the floor, give me an estimate of how much it will cost me to have him the stairs polyurethane work so poorly done -$950. And that will be worth it so I don't have to deal with this terrible company ever again. Incidentally, when I asked Scott Webber if he has read poor reviews posted, he said " yeah, I know about them! They were written by people just like you!!" Well, perhaps he is right: honest people who trusted his team to do a good job, paid them, had no resolve to their poor work. We had a hot water valve under our kitchen sink blow off in May. We had hot water spewing all over our kitchen. I called our insurance agent and they recommended Service Master in Chula Vista. I called them and spoke to Sabrina who ended up coordinating the entire clean up and Xavier who helped coordinate putting my cabinets back, replacing drywall and painting, etc. I couldn't be happier with how they coordinated everything. Johnny and Alonzo took care of the dry out, Xavier, Tony and Juan did the drywall, and Benny matched the paint so well you cannot tell that the entire wall wasn't repainted. They brought boxes and offered to pack up my kitchen for me. I decided to do it myself so I could find everything. I did not expect all the help I had nor how professional everyone was. Our aging living room window seals failed to hold back the heavy rains this winter resulting in moldy and damaged baseboards and drywall. ServiceMaster quickly responded and mitigated the mold, removed all affected areas, and dried the underlying framing and flooring. They took special care to seal off the area. They did a great job and cleaned well after finished. Pricing was less than other firms as well. In most cases MUCH less. They receive my highest recommendation! This company is a State Farm preferred vendor. When we had a sewage backup into our home, this was the company State Farm sent out. It took ServiceMaster three weeks to complete the job. There were various young men who were sent out over the three weeks and some of them seemed inexperienced. It appeared the company was understaffed. They did not complete the demo required to our shower enclosure, removing only the bottom 1/3, leaving the top 2/3 behind. We now have to hire a company to remove the rest before we can begin construction. The people sent out were friendly enough, but left many scuffs, dings, etc. to our walls as they moved equipment in and out. They told us State Farm would cover the damage, but State Farm said ServiceMaster was responsible. It appears we will have to pay to fix that damage. read more

This is a very dysfunctional company. They make huge promises and underdeliver. They lost or stole or just plain threw out many of our personal items and we are going through a huge mess with them right now. I would not recommend working with them in any way shape or form. Scott and Brandon say one thing and do another and constantly have nothing but excuses. Well when you pay your employees who do the cleaning and moving low wages and they have to work overtime to make ends meat they for sure will be tired and won't do the paperwork properly and even Brandon told me this. They have lost several employees lately and well that makes things difficult when no one is with you from start to finish. We are missing thousands of dollars worth of very special things that my Mom gave me and so much more and they are refusing to make a complete total loss list cause in their own words = we don't get paid for that. Well it's party of what you are suppose to do and you didn't do it and you either lost or stole our stuff. I mean how do you lose 4 closet doors and not even set aside or have your client come down to get the personal items they wanted even if they were put on your total loss list? How can you throw away things and not make a list and say we don't get paid for that and there won't be any more lists? How do you go out of State to make huge money and not take care of the clients you already started with = cuz you only care about making money and don't care about your clients is the reason. I have caught Brandon and Scott in so many lies that it's just insane. They have not given my insurance company detailed photos and video as asked as of yet cuz they are covering their asses...and there are a bunch of asses there for sure. I'm so disappointed with Service Masters...they should change their name to Service Failure cuz they have not addressed my concerns and now they have thrown away my personal things without listing everything thrown out and I asked them from the get-go if I could come down to get certain items ad they said not problem. Then they get all mad cuz they want to make money and they for sure don't want to spend any time helping you out. These guys suck. I can't say it enough = stay away and save yourself the hassle. I asked Brandon what they do and he said yes to everything but he lied to get the job and they don't do structural repairs so I had to get another estimate and wait months for that as well. I don't mind if that is the case but I would of appreciated it if you would of just been honest with me. Nothing on the list that they recently sent my insurance company matches up at all and the pics we requested came all blurry and showed nothing but paper and out of focus stuff...and the video has not arrived as of yet and they promised to send that too. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! They were terrible! Beware! State Farm referred us to this company because they have a contract with them. I will not detail all the issues we had with this company (as there are too many to mention), but, let me tell you a few highlights. First, they apparently use contractors for their work (not employees). The contractor they sent to my home to patch my drywall was obviously under the active influence of a substance (I could smell the cannabis on him as soon as he greeted me and his eye pupils were the size of pin holes). The contractor they sent out to install my floor did not show up at the scheduled time and was 4 hours late (I took the day off work to meet with him). When he finally did show up hours late, he unloaded the floor materials and told me he was going to come back tomorrow to do the job. Unacceptable. And finally, after nearly 6 months past the completion of the project, this company started harassing's me to pay a bill they claimed was approximately $2,300. I contested this bill because many of the items listed were never done. They sent out an employee to evaluate the work that was done (or not) and the bill was adjusted to $300. I could go on and on with more examples, but, you get the picture. I will never use this company again. read more
