We recently moved in and just gotten our asbestos results and wanted to get to abatement ASAP. We had Marc who was extremely thorough and helped us understand the process. He was also very accessible as we were able to call and text him if we had any questions. There was an error on our invoice and he corrected it quickly. The abatement team came quickly and were able to remove drywall from our master bedroom, hallway, popcorn ceiling for 2 rooms, and guest bathroom. We were able to add on removal of old cabinets and a fan to ensure there was no asbestos left. Overall they did it very efficiently and safely which I appreciated. The one con I have to mention was when they removed the ceilings fan they misplaced some of the attachments needed to hook the ceiling fan up. We didn't move anything so when we went to assemble it the piece was missing and we needed to buy extra. A lot of the closets and screws they detached were also not organized so it's been difficult assembling our stuff again. They did the job fast and well but I would recommend they organize items they detached better. We still have a few spots to remove asbestos but would consider them again. read more

Last year I hired a different abatement company to remove some asbestos-containing drywall in my house and they didn't follow industry protocol and ended up spreading asbestos all throughout the entire home. It was such a nightmare. No one ever wants to be a repeat customer of an abatement company - but we found some very gnarly mold in the front 1/3 of our house and reached out to SDAS, since they'd abated our house from asbestos 2 years ago. SDAS abated our walls from mold. Alfonso was the mold tech and he was super kind and communicative, providing an update every day and making sure to seal off the abatement area so we could continue living in the rest of the house. Gabriel was also very helpful and honest about our options to remove the mold from our concrete foundation, which we very much appreciated and ended up doing separately. The abatement work took around 4-5 business days, they ran an air scrubber over the weekend, and then the mold clearance test was the following Monday. The only improvement would've been a bit clearer communication about when we would be able to re-enter the area after abatement. We added a mold clearance test, which takes 24 hours for the results to come back (it wasn't instant like our asbestos air clearance). But overall SDAS was really great about helping us through this stressful experience. read more

I've been doing house repairs over the last few months and one thing has lead to another between replacing plumbing, fixing my solar, filling in drywall, replacing ducts, and several other things that I either wasn't aware of or didn't know that I would need another company to complete the job or crazy complications that cost more money and more time. The latest thing was as a company was removing the old ducts they found asbestos. Living without air conditioning for the past several days, this abatement company was able to book in a little over a week. Maricio (think I spelt that right), came on time, set everything up, answered all my questions, and even did some extra cleaning in the attic on things that were welded in from the air ducts. I was told sometimes it takes 1-2 days before booking, then possibly 6-8 hours after booking and giving info. He was done in less than 3 hours. This is a breathe of fresh air compared to all the other things I have been dealing with. Almost zero hassle (house smells like primer but that's not their fault). Highly recommended! read more

We had to have asbestos removed from our HVAC ducts/wires (??) and the guy that came did a great job of making us feel safe and like the areas he was working in was closed off properly. SDAS removed the asbestos HVAC ducting from my home. I was worried that it would be a pain but these guys made it easy. I called into their office and asked for an estimated for the ducting i need removed. everyone else i called needed to come out to do and estimate and made me feel like this was going to be some huge deal. SDAS made ti easy, i called and told them what i needed removed and the quoted me over the phone based on the details i provided. The guy i spoke with told me we do hundreds of these and this is how much it will cost. I dont need to come and take a look. This immediately made me feel at ease so i scheduled the work with them. A couple days later a guy shows up in a truck, comes in tapes up all my HVAC registers, makes a makes a room out of plastic (like a scene out of E.T) in the hallway so he doesn't contaminate my living area gets in a hazmat suit and gets goes up in my attic. Hes up there a couple hours and then he emerges from the attic, with bags of asbestos duct work which he seals, gets out of the hazmat suit in the plastic room so he doesn't contaminate the house and bags it, he then breaks down the plastic room and bags that. And guess what the final price was exactly what i was quoted on the phone. 5 stars for SDAS for doing clean work, ensuring my home wasn't contaminated, providing reasonable pricing and being professionals. read more

Got all the popcorn removed in my house. This was one of two quotes I received on the popcorn, but I went with SD Abatement because they are certified to remove abestos material and with my old house there was bound to be abestos in the ceiling. I wanted the job done right and these are the guys to do it. The crew was courteous, thorough, and friendly. Everything was put right back to place after the removal, texture, prime, and paint. Oswaldo was the crew leader and he was nice enough to give me a tour midway through the project to show me that everything was going as planned. Estimated job start and completion dates were spot on. They told me they would start on Monday and finish in a week and a half, and guess what? They did. Kelsey, Veronica, and Shawn answered all my questions. San Diego Abatement did a WONDERFUL job removing our acoustic (1410 sqf. with asbestos) ceilings. They also removed a pony wall and painted our dining room. Plus, retextured and painted the ceiling in our kitchen. Shawn (the owner) was professional and very detailed about the process. San Diego Abatement took this job seriously and took every measure to make sure the asbestos was contained. We had to be away from our home for two nights, exactly as Shawn said we would be. When other companies were telling us we would have to remove absolutely EVERYTHING from our home to have an abatement done, Shawn came in and told us we could leave all the large items and they would cover it all safely. He was realistic and made us feel so much better when we were feeling quite overwhelmed. We LOVE our new ceilings and we couldn't be happier! I hired San Diego Abatement Services to remove the popcorn ceiling from my condo as well as retexture and paint the ceiling. I moved all my stuff into a Uhaul truck for a week and stayed with a friend while the work was done. The work was good and the price was fair but the reason why I didn't give 5 stars was that communications could have been better. For the initial quote I didn't know if Shawn was on his way or was late because it was getting close to the end of the hour of the appointment. A heads up would have been nice. Also, on Wednesday of that week of the work I got an email with an invoice so I thought that meant they finished early, but alas they weren't done. I literally got no communications or updates during the week, I had to check in myself to figure out what was going on. Also, as a tip plan on having your walls repainted as well - popcorn ceiling removal is messy work and you'd be too optimistic if you think nothing will happen when they rip off the strong tape holding up the plastic sheets. read more

Scheduling and admin services are haphazard. No notice is given to you as to when workers will show up to your property. Multiple follow-up calls had to be made to discover when work was scheduled for. Job itself was quick, but unfinished - texture was not done on several areas (pictures were provided) of the home and when called to schedule to finalize service, Marc the estimator, started the call with "you must be mistaken there is nothing wrong" and when asked why the texture is the remainder of the home is so different he began to escalate his tone and talk over me and eventually aggressively uttering a loud "SHUSH". This company is beyond unprofessional. From the scheduling, to receiving the wrong invoice with $600 in excess of contract, to being shushed on a phone call. The job remains unfinished. They were the cheapest in town and I certainly know why. I do not recommend this company. read more

We hired San Diego Abatement to remove 1100 square feet of asbestos positive popcorn ceiling. The estimator showed up on time, provided a competitive quote and was able to start the work on our schedule. Unfortunately the actual work performed was of very low quality. The workers badly gouged the ceiling resulting in additional charges from the painter for repairs. The workers removed several light fixtures and smoke detectors loosing parts in the process. One light fixture was removed and the bare 120 volt hot wire was stuffed back up into the metal box resulting in sparks and a blown breaker when the next contractor hit the wall switch. Finally the workers, scheduled for 8am would invariably show up at 9:30 to 10:00am. Once the job has started the house can't be entered until it is complete leaving me waiting outside until they arrived. I do not recommend this company for popcorn ceiling removal. read more

I contracted SD Abatement Services to remove the "popcorn" asbestos-containing ceiling material as I was preparing my condominium unit for sale. My first e-mail went unanswered, so I called, and Faye, who was so helpful and knowledgeable, arranged a measurement just two days later. (So contact by phone) . The measurement went very quickly; Marc used a laser-type device and it was less than 10 minutes for my 800 sq. feet. I emphasized that the furnace closet needed complete service too, as it had the stuff on the walls as well as the ceiling(!) I received the bid in a couple of days and I enthusiastically accepted as the price was very reasonable. I also had the texturing and painting included in my contract and I recommend that potential customers do the same. It just doesn't make sense to get multiple companies involved in the same project, in my opinion. On the day of the service, which was scheduled about two weeks after I accepted, the crew showed up early in the morning and began their prep. I was staying with a neighbor for the 3 days of treatment (the middle day is to let the texturing cure) , and while we were observing from outside, a county Air Pollution Control District Inspector walked by and spoke with the workers. We talked to her as she was leaving and she told us that this particular company is very experienced and, essentially, her work is easy when they are on the job. So that was all the more reassuring. This is a very involved process from prep to restoring and lots of little work items are necessary. In my case this involved removing two closet door tracks and putting aside the very heavy doors they moved along, as well as a hall light fixture. I did choose to not have them restore the door tracks, mainly because I didn't want those things penetrating my now-beautiful ceiling! I called and asked if they could haul the extraordinarily heavy, solid-wood doors away and they did just that. I was so grateful as these things would have been so difficult to transport on my own. So the job is finished and I couldn't be more happy with the result. I have beautiful, fresh-looking ceilings and they did a complete and wonderful job (including that furnace closet). They left a quart of touch-up paint, which I appreciate, and now some six weeks later, I still marvel at how good this place looks. Sean saved our HOA's @ss when they attempted to remove our popcorn ceiling in the hallways without permission. The city came out and inspected the work and it turned out we had 12% asbestos in the air, where 1% is considered hazardous waste. This was at 4:30 on a Friday before MLK's 3 day weekend for most. Sean, realizing the state of emergency our crooked HOA President was in, assembled a crew and spent the entire day Saturday removing the asbestos from the ceilings, walls and carpets.
