We called them three days before New Years, hoping they could steam 4000 sq ft of carpet over the following two days. (Knew it was a long shot given the holiday weekend). Andy was kind enough to keep in contact with me, letting me know they WOULD have someone available!! Bruce showed up the following two days- on time and at the time I requested. He did a beautiful job and was very nice and professional to deal with. Overall I was thrilled with the experience, from requesting service, to scheduling to the final product. This has been by far the worst experience i've had with a contracting company. Tim the manager was awesome, but he just overseas the work. The contractors who actually did the work did terrible. Very young with no experience. All the trim had to be resanded by the home owner and repainted. the corners didn't match up at any section and the home owner had to repair. The flooring had to be pulled and relaid 3 times with several gaps, pieces missing, and is still messed up. The cabinets have nicks and chunks missing from when they hung them. They filled them with putty and you can still see the blemishes. They have to add panel pieces to cabinets they drilled through to semi fix their mess up. They pulled the trim and left the walls with missing pieces of drywall when putting new trim back. They didn't fix or paint where they had laid the trim. they pulled the back splash and used unmatching drywall to replace what was cut out. Then just laid the back splash over the drywall so now it's unlevel. I would not recommend to my worst enemy. read more

We have never dealt with mold. We searched on line and called 2 companies who touted themselves as experts and yet both lacked any surety of knowledge. With no clue of how to proceed we called our insurance agent for recommendations on who they most often see providing reliable help with this mold problem. Beware! Beware! Beware ServiceMaster is the most overpriced remediation company on the market. Up to 1/3 higher sometimes. Also, they are the kings of add-on costs. Their staff promises to do certain tasks but later will try to charge you extra for it. When you confront them they blame it on misunderstandings even if you show them the direct communication stating otherwise. I cannot begin to tell you the frustrations I've had with this company. I could have never in my wildest dreams think that a company would swoop in and compound the issues your already stressed out about.. Then in the end overcharge you and threaten lawyers after they took over a year to do the repairs! I'm leaving two stars because I'm sure the level of customer service would be better through another contact. I dealt with Howard, and had an appointment to help clean up a large one bedroom apartment for my disabled brother. Needed a good *scrubbing-type cleaning* - not an episode of hoarders or anything of the sort, but a healthy, deep cleaning for sure. We had an appointment on a Monday for 10 am and at 10:30 I called him to remind him. He apologized for "getting caught up with another customer" and arrived at 11:15. His walk through took about 20 minutes and was uneventful. He mentioned he would email an estimate. I called on Wednesday and it was not yet ready. I called again on Friday and he said he would try to get to it but could not promise anything for that day. I told him at that point not to bother, that the effort provided in not having an estimate done in 5 days was probably indicative of the effort I was going to continue to get. I was willing to pay up to $2500 for this to be done. I can't image it would have cost that much but I was willing. I will take my money elsewhere. read more

I used them recently to dry out my house after a plumbing leak. The costumer service was unsatisfactory and their main concern seemed to be how much they could bill my insurance company. I got the feeling they did not appreciate my asking questions about the drying process and they gave me only vague responses. I would not recommend them. read more

Last month we had a major flood in the basement of our home due to a sewer pipe collapse in our front yard. After consulting with our insurance, we decided to call Service Master who took my call immediately. A technician was on his way as soon as the water receded. Communication was key, we were apprised of the situation and let us know the plan of action. Their crew had to remove ruined furniture, drywall and flooring and proceeded to sanitize the entire basement. After that two-day process, they left industrial dehumidifiers to dry the space. We are satisfied that their process was thorough, and all communications were professional and polite. Thanks Service Master! read more

I do not recommend. After a $10K mitigation job, they placed me on the pay no mind list for a $50K+ remodel job. After finally calling to begin work, the project manager, Tom Petkovic refused to accommodate my work schedule, rather I needed to accommodate his. He said, they don't pay me over time so, I can't meet you at 4:30 or any weekends. He refused to bend and simply hung up. He was so unprofessional and acted like he was doing me a favor. There are many construction companies elsewhere, this place obviously, does not need your business. It was such a waste of time because after mitigation they wrote up an entire estimate which was approved by State Farm, and draft sent to lender! this guy did not need to come to do anything but send a crew to start work. Needless to say, I lost a lot of time, am missing half my home and am now looking for a new company. Don't let them waste your time. read more

I can only speak to the initial contact and estimate process because we are still dealing with insurance issues - but I just wanted to say that Andy has been an absolute pleasure to work with in what has been a really tough situation for our family. His company was the only one of the six we called to deliver a full estimate, he did a thorough site visit, called me from the house while doing it, offered advice and support and was just a nice person through it all. His 30 plus years of experience completely set him apart from the other companies we tried working with. I own an apartment building that experienced a break in through a ground level window. The police provided a referral to the tenants for this Downers Grove Service Master location. One guy showed up at the apartment (albeit promptly) and charged the tenants $343 for the 45 minutes it took him to slap a board over the 3' x 5' broken window. He did not clean up any of the broken glass. To put this pricing in perspective, I only paid $300 to have that same double pane vinyl window both custom made and installed just a year earlier. The next day, I called the manager at Service Master to respectfully request a $100 discount given that the cost seemed excessive and I felt like they were taking advantage of two scared girls, but he refused stating "... this is the same price we charge everybody." In summary, if money is no object, then these are the right guys to call. Otherwise, look up a local handyman in the phone book and spend $75 for the same service. read more

I am a tenant in a condo building that had a pipe burst back in November and this company (this branch specifically) was hired for the remediation and remodel of not only the condo units damaged, but the retail spaces below. Putting it simply, this company has so sense of customer service, professionalism, and frankly seems to only care about how much money they can bill your insurance company for. I live in an 800 square foot unit that had damage to the hardwood floors, and some minor drywall damage. Originally quoted 4-6 weeks for a work time, we ended up being completely displaced for 12 weeks. We would frequently check in on the unit during the work and find that it would go weeks without any work being done. We payed $3600 for their crew to pack up and store our belongings, only to find that only about 80% of our belongings were actually packed, the rest were either shoved into cabinets or otherwise stored improperly. On top of that, we found that the workers helped themselves to using our personal drinking glasses, napkins, and cleaning supplies during their work that were for some reason left behind by the pack out crew. The crew also neglected to pack and store our brand new couch, instead they put a paint tarp over it and left it out in the public hallway for weeks for anyone to steal or damage, which obviously did not go over well with the HOA of my building. The keys to my unit were also "stored" improperly- as they were simply left sitting on top of the couch in the public hallway for anyone to enter, or make a copy of. And just when I thought things could not possibly be worse, the quality of the work done to repair the unit is laughable. We moved in with improper installment of our appliances, cracks in the new drywall, a chip in the coating of the tub, and horribly installed floors. We are also now dealing with damage to our personal property (chips and major scratches in two brand new hardwood tables, salt stains on my couch that was sitting in the hall...) and a variety of belongings that are just simply missing. The company is refusing to refund the packout fee when the job was not done, and is fighting on reimbursing us for our items that were used/ruined by their workers. While this review is long, it is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to just how truly awful dealing with the Downers Grove ServiceMaster has been. I will never use and or recommend their services again, and I strongly caution anyone who is considering them to look elsewhere for your repair needs. read more

We came home to a flood in our kitchen that went down into the basement. We initially called another restoration company that was referred to us by State Farm but did not feel very comfortable with them. We decided to call Servicemaster DSL out of Downers Grove since they were local. CJ was our specialist in charge of the project. CJ is a seasoned professional who made us feel at ease. He also helped explain how things would work with our insurance company which was a big help. Dave was our main technician that was in charge of removing any portion of ceiling, flooring, etc.. that was affected by the water. Dave was absolutely great. He treated our home like it was his own. Our overall stress level was greatly reduced by both CJ, Dave and all the other guys that came out from Servicemaster. We highly recommend Servicemaster and would call them again in a heartbeat if we ever have something like this happen again. read more

Don't ever use this company, they are all talk and no action. My company went through a lengthy quoting process with them to make sure the scope of work was correct and hired them on a trial basis. They did not perform anywhere near what they promised and charged us an incredibly large amount of money for the incredibly small amount of work performed and charged us for supplies they had purchased but not used. They would not budge on the invoice amount after reviewing the work performed even though they still had all of the NEW supplies they charged us for and didn't use. read more

Request additional quotes for services before approving Service Master DSI to begin work in your home or business. I recently approved Service Master DSI to remediate water damage in my home's basement. The process was smooth at first when I was speaking to the customer representative before I approved the remediation process begin. Service Master DSI began water remediation by removing drywall and placing fans on the floor. However, when mold was found, all work had to end until mold remediation would begin. I was ensured three times the procedures Service Master DSI were taking would resolve my mold issue and work resumed shortly thereafter. Service Master DSI does not test for mold - this led me to hire a third party to test the air quality in my basement. The test came back positive for three molds and the technician of the third party advised me not to live in my house due to the poor sanitation process performed by Service Master. I contacted Service Master DSI and air scrubbers were placed to clean the air. The third party mold company came back out to retest the air and advised we not retest due to the poor sanitation process performed by Service Master DSI. The walls and floors were not sanitized and this leads to future mold growth. I was shocked to see this since I was ensured multiple times my basement would be "fine" and "ready to use". Service Master DSI gave me the "ring around" and performed inadequate work, but charged me a lot of money for their poor service. I have attempted to communicate with the representative but those efforts did not lead to an amicable agreement. Think twice or three times before hiring Service Master DSI, my experience has left me frustrated and disappointed in their effort. Looking back, I should have hired the third party mold company.
