This clinic can't give a rough estimate for what a spay/neuter costs... Vets are starting to feel like mechanic shops. I've started calling around to get an idea for what the average or 'range' of either procedure is. When talking to the clinic rep, they said the vet 'prefers' developing a closer relationship with the animals first (paraphrasing) before they can tell me what it might cost. So they'd need a check-up despite having gotten one the week before. Really? A healthy young cat in need of spay/neuter is between 5-12 lbs. depending on the sex. You'd think after doing a few hundred--or a few thousand--such procedures that a vet clinic would get a 'feel' for what the average cost is. A previous vet elsewhere charged me $150 to do a check-up on my cats--basically weigh them and stick a thermometer in their rectums--before his assistant could tell me it was upwards of $480 for a boy and $920 for a girl. How do I as a customer trust this vet or any other when they can't give an average? Btw, anyone wonder why there are so many strays and litters of puppies and kittens in need of a good home? This is a very stressful process as the documentation has to be completed within a very tight timeline. They were patient, kind and very understanding of how stressful this process was for us. Dr. Popa and his staff are great at what they do and truly care about animals. They have gone above and beyond normal care many many times in my experience. One example, his staff is always helpful and answers all my "common sense" questions... even when they are after hours. I have always felt heard and Dr. Popa and his staff does a great job helping me understand (in layman's terms) what the diagnosis/summary of the visits are. Another example, we were a little nervous dropping off our rescue to get spayed 2 months after meeting us, but Dr. Popa's staff sent us a photo of a happy puppy and that put us right at ease. To top it off, Dr. Popa & staff made the CUTEST sea creatures on our pup's dewclaw removal sites. The service we receive feels as if I we are part of his immediate family. read more

I called for an appointment and the receptionist was so rude and unhelpful I was truly shocked. My entire family brings their dogs to see Dr. P, and I heard nothing but great things about him, unfortunately I'll be taking my cat elsewhere. Dr. Popa is an incredible vet. He truly cares about your animal and gives very personalized service. He has been excellent with our chihuahua, Dash when we have brought him in for appointments and has called us back personally when we have questions over the phone. The staff here are also excellent and competent. They are very prompt (no long wait times!) even during COVID. Everything is so fairly priced! I have been to a couple other vets in the area for my boss's dog and Seven Locks beats them all out for price and quality of service. I am a new pet owner and Dr. Popa (and his staff) are extremely patient and answer all my questions. My dog has an allergy to red meat (which was surprising) and had tummy issues due to it. Dr. Popa's staff were very nice through the 6 months that it took me to find out all his allergies and to put him on the right dog food. We have a 16 month pit bull mix who started to have frequent urinary incontinence. She was insured at Banfield so we ended up going there twice and felt like she was getting diagnosed with things that were probably not correct - ended up wasting money on some medications and generally felt like the vets were just putting it off and deferring it until we went back to our home Banfield in Cleveland in 4 weeks. We had a referral to Dr. Popa and when she had an episode of tremors, decided to go to him. The front desk staff were incredibly friendly, efficient, and were able to get our medical records from out other vet within an hour. They scheduled us in last minute and did let us know they weren't sure if it was better to have her go to the ED or come to the clinic. They discussed it w Dr. Popa and he said to bring her in. Even out dog liked the front staff and usually she is semi concerned in the vets office but here she was wagging her tail and trying to see what work they were doing. It's still too soon to know if his workup is truly correct, but he is thoughtful, thorough, and honest about what he thinks is going on. He took 45 minutes discussing things with us and going over how labs are drawn, her abnormal lab results, and what his workup and differential was. He seemed to truly care and was very patient as I made repeated calls to my husband to discuss some decisions we had to make. I really appreciate his time and consideration and efforts to not drain out our bank accounts, especially because we are not regular customers and were just in town for a few months and at wits end with other vets we'd seen in the area. read more

We weren't able to go inside because of COVID-19, but the staff was professional when we dropped our dog off and the vet was very knowledgeable when he called us after the checkup. I switched to Dr.Popa 2 years ago because his practice is close to home. I have been nothing but extremely satisfied with the medical care and treatment for all three pets. Money hungry veterinarian. Brought my dog for itching and they recommended an allergy shot. Got the shot and they said I can come back and just be charged this $80 shot fee instead of an exam fee each time (which I thought was a deal). First visit, Dr. Popa wanted to upsell me a medicated shampoo to help with itching. The shampoo did nothing whatsoever. I continued to use it so I did not waste my money. The shot did work, but only for about 3 weeks. Fast forward to her annual visit, and here's where things get interesting. They charge me the annual visit + the shot and want to upsell me a spray because it looked like to Dr. Popa she had a "skin infection". Lets be clear, she needed a bath and her tummy was dirty. When I declined the spray due to costs being that we were in the middle of a pandemic and many people did not have steady income -he made me feel like I was not a good dog mom. He talked down to me and said "it's only $20" and I continued to say "...well it's $20, plus the exam, PLUS the shot!" He acted like he was doing me a favor by giving me this spray "for free" even though I didn't ask. He then said "this is the only time we're doing this, it's not a regular thing. We have to keep our lights on too"..... again... never asked for the spray, nor did I want it. Will never return here because after leaving I found out the allergy shot is only $18 at another vet, so his "discount" of only charging the shot price is not actually a discount. My dog has alot of tarter build up and I wanted to discuss options for her without going the anesthesia route and he never mentioned anything about her teeth and only wanted to upsell me shampoo's and sprays that don't work! I would NEVER recommend this place. read more

Dr. Popa has been our veterinarian for more than 6 years. He's an excellent scientist and he recently saved our cat who was suffering from a urinary blockage. I'm not an expert but I understand that it's a condition that needs to be addressed quickly as a good outcome is dependent on a prompt response. Dr. Popa got our cat, Henry, in very quickly for an exam once I'd called and described my cat's symptoms and irregular behavior. Then, Dr. Popa communicated that a procedure needed to be done immediately and he subsequently prioritized us and cancelled a couple "regular" appointments in order to perform the emergency procedure. Immediately after the procedure, Dr. Popa said that he was happy with the way that the procedure had gone. It took a few days for my cat to fully recover, which is normal, and a few weeks out I am glad to say that this is more or less behind us. I say, "more or less", because I will keep an eye out for a recurrence, but I think the odds are in our favor after the procedure and with the new diet Dr. Popa prescribed for our cat which is very effective at maintenance for cats that are predisposed to this condition. Wish we went to Dr. Popa since our dog was a puppy! We only switched over to Seven Locks when he was about 7-8 years old and I've never imagined such amazing care. Dr. Popa is very honest and conservative. It's so sweet to see genuine love and care for animals in the facility -- all the techs are so loving to my dog and it's so heart-warming to watch. He tries to save you money and choose the best option for you dog. You are never pressured to do anything. It's never crowded and you will only run into another pet on your way in or out, as expected for back-to-back appointments. It's very calm and patients don't overlap. Dr Popa is very good. He managed to respect my Breeders wishes of only one vaccine per week and give my little puppy excellent care. He really loves the dogs and mine just took to him very well. I trust him and I am glad I found Seven Locks Animal Hospital. I have had 4 German Shepherds and a few Aussies. He also understands MDR1 and will even test for you. None of my other Vets understood how I cannot use Ivermectin in Heart worm medication. Dr Popa knew right away. So I highly recommend him. He is experienced and knowledgeable without the arrogance. I called as a new patient and was told by Maddie, when they get around to it then they will let me know if I can get an appointment after filling out the online form. What kind of customer care is that, telling me when they get around to it? Once they did call the next day which was timely, they told me they had an opening 2 weeks out but would need to drop off my pet due to Covid. I told them I will call them right back and wanted to check with my sister who takes her dog there to see if that was consistent with what she had to do. Within one minute I called them back to confirm the date which they told me they did not have available now and could not have been ruder about it. I understand things are busy but there is no reason to handle a possible new client that way. read more

Dr. Popa is great. I am a first time dog owner, and adopted a skittish rescue dog 6 months ago. Dr. Popa provided extremely helpful tips that have actually worked to calm my dog and make him more comfortable. Dr. Popa is now the vet there. He takes care of my (now) 3 cats and more importantly my mother's seeing eye dog. He and staff are WONDERFUL. They are reliable, available, sweet, genuine and caring. They have access to the latest and greatest foods and items being marketed to animals but are not trying to sell you things, they just try to help. Dr. Popa has now saved the life of my mom's guide dog when she got into a pill bottle and my cat when she had a terrible infection and almost died a couple of years ago.
