My coworker told me about Seventwenty Collective because my former hair artist moved out of state. I sent the collective a DM on Instagram and told them I was looking for someone who worked with curly hair. They pointed me to Whitney Lee, so I booked a consultation. Whitney was so down to earth and sweet, she seemed genuinely excited to work on my hair. She said for what she had planned, it'd be a maintenance cut, so less expensive than the transformation cut. Whitney took excellent care of my curls, doing a dry cut (or carving as they call it) to get the overall rounded shape I'd been wanting. Then, she washed and conditioned my hair, did some wet hair trimming, and taught me how to rope my curls in much thinner ringlets. She also said my hair was fine, which I had NO idea! I always thought that since I had so much hair, and so poofy, it was thick, but nope! My hair is fine! Anyway, Whitney added some more moisture, then diffused my hair, used a hair pick to give it more volume, and tidied up some loose ends. My curls had never looked so good, like they finally reached their fullest potential. I've taken what I've learned from Whitney and began applying it to my hair. I saw Krista - I showed her pictures, first red flag she barely looked at them. The only thing confirmed was I wanted my hair above my shoulders but below the chin. That didn't even come out correct. My hair is at my chin in front and way shorter in the back! Not what I asked for. I had to tell her I didn't like it towards the end of the cut and it only got worse. It's like Edward scissor hands went to my hair. I wanted a fun bob like cut with movement. I ended with a short hack job. I don't know about you but my hair is part of my identity, and now I have to wait feeling like crap about myself until it grows out enough to have it fixed. So disappointed. Before I even moved to San Antonio I needed to setup a hair appointment and booked with Salon Seventwenty to give them a shot. On Google and Yelp they had good review and great photos, and the Instagram accounts for their stylist were checking my boxes off. Setting up the appointment was quick and easy, and they setup an account with you via your phone number so you can receive text notifications about your appointment. I was happy to receive the confirmation text and the reminder in the days leading up to my first appointment. I had no preference on who I went to see there the first time, but every time since I make sure my appointment is with that same stylist, Connie. She is absolutely wonderful to talk to and get to know and is a great stylist who takes pride in her work. She is one of the few stylists there that can do short hair, and she did wonders with mine. The overall space is clean, bright, and comfortable. There is plenty of outdoor parking since it is located in a kind of square strip mall, AND they are expanding into the space to the right of their storefront (as of early November 2018). All of the stylists are friendly and listen to their customers and make an effort to get to know you. Prices are fair in my opinion, but can be on the higher side depending on what you're getting done during your appointment... which makes sense. If you're unsure if they can do what you need, just call them and ask. PRO TIP: Look at Instagram for the most current photos/styles done by the stylists you're interested in. read more

I went in December for a curly cut with Hannah. On her social media and on the site it stated that she specialized in curly cut. She was polite and engaging. During my haircut I that she was not a curly specialist, I honestly think that she had zero experience with my texture of hair. I came in natural with minimal to no product. We talked about my hair and how I wear it, I told her I sometimes straighten my hair, that is like 2x a year. So she decided to cut my hair wet because I straighten it. She wet my hair and put a ton of conditioner on it, no shampoo. She did not finger comb it, she used a comb and it did not feel like a wide tooth come. Before she started cutting my wet hair, she put product in it. In my 30 plus years of getting my hair cut, I have never had anyone cut my hair with product in it!!! She put gel in my hair before cutting it. Also, for some reason I was scheduled for a 1 hour cut, which is not typical for a curly cut. So she rushed towards the end. With my hair still damp, she asked me what I thought of my cut. I told her I did not know because it was still wet. She did not take off the weight on the top, she layered only the ends. So my curls had a lot of weight on them. There was no shape, to my cut. She offered to fix it, I had accepted and then I decided to decline. I could not risk another bad hair cut. Word to the wise, ask your curly hair stylist if they have taken any courses in curly cuts. Better yet, make sure they have a certificate to show they have take some sort of course. I am SO PICKY about my cuts, because I am a long-haired tomboy who does not understand hair. I have very straight long hair that never seems to retain any character or body no matter what people teach me or what products are involved. I also have some thick ass bangs, and I am in the process of growing out an undercut, further complicating the situation. AND I don't know the first goddamn thing about doing my hair--heat doesn't take, it's always either in a bun/ponytail or straight down, the best I can do is blow dry my bangs with my travel blow dryer and even that doesn't turn out right half the time. That stated, Hannah (aka hair reaper) is a goddamn genius. In less time and fewer cuts than I even thought possible, she turned my dead-straight, uneven hair into a literal work of art. I wake up in the morning (after washing and conditioning at night and letting it all air dry in bed with my satin pillowcases) and I look like a goddamn sex goddess. I moved to San Antonio almost a year ago and I was looking for a stylist until like, October/November. I stumbled upon this salon online and it looked nice so I messaged the salon for an appointment with any stylist. Upon my initial appointment, the stylist was very nice and seemed to be in tune with what I wanted, but I walked out with hair 5 times darker than I wanted it to be. I was totally freaking out that night, and messaged the owner who graciously offered a free treatment in attempt to lighten it with a different stylist. I came in, and I met Connie and well, I'm sure all the other stylists are cool but she is the BEST! She was so sweet to me when I came in and I have gone back to her several times and I wouldn't go anywhere else. My hair looks and feels lovely after every color or cut. I really am impressed with Connie because there is no one thing that she is an expert in, she seems to be talented in EVERYTHING; cuts, colors, balayage, highlights, toning, etc... I love her. The inside of the salon is so cute, I love the design and all the cool decorative pieces. They recently expanded which is awesome!! As far as prices go, you get what you pay for. Get this, $180 for my mini trim, and hair dyed black from dark brown. It wasn't discussed to me that it would've been that much for something so simple. The color turned out good but not something I couldn't have done with a box dye... AND there wouldn't be shampoo in the hair after I wash the dye out unlike what she did. I had an appointment for a haircut, but found myself in heavy traffic and called to tell the salon I "might" be a few minutes late. Fortunately, traffic cleared and I was able to make my appointment on time. When I arrived, no one was at the front desk, and it took several minutes for an employee to acknowledge I'd come in. She said she would let my stylist know I was there, and directed me where to wait. After 20 minutes, I'd still not been called back, so I asked how much longer it would be. I was told my stylist was running late and would be another 30 minutes, a full 50 minutes AFTER my appointment time. Went back to Jade for a cut and hand painted color. Love how it turned out. Jade also explained the steps of her coloring process while she was doing it, which I found helpful and interesting, and talked me through the maintenance process. Was at the salon for at least four hours but it felt like it went by super fast. Everyone is friendly and it's a warm environment. Plus they have snacks and coffee (a huge plus). Worst Service Ever!! I posted a picture of my hair before Services were done, a picture of what I asked for and the end results, which is nothing near what I wanted. I now have orange hair and was told that it is my hair's fault and that it is a process. I already had blonde in the ends and just needed to add more highlights on the top. My hair lifts very easy since my hair is brown. I understand if I wouldn't have been able to get the blonde I was asking for but I never had an issue at any other high end Salon. I was never offered to have it fixed, but was told I could make another appt to redo it but would have to pay again! The response from the Owner was unprofessional and she didn't care. Jessica did a great job! Finding right hair salon is kind of a nightmare. I decided to try them after reading positive review here and seeing instagram posts. I walked into the salon and it was surprisingly big, but not intimidating atmosphere like ones in the mall. Everybody was friendly :) Jessica was my hair stylist. Krista, the fact is the client discussed to the hair dresser that she was unhappy with the hair, and the hairdresser did not acknowledge that or make a change is what the client is upset about, it doesn't matter what the reasoning is behind it all- stating it's "science" etc. When the client is obviously unhappy with her hair after she left. So I don't see the "good customer service" in that. Never have I been to a salon that did not try to fix something after the client paid a lot of money. This doesn't change my review. I definitely lucked out with this place. I know it's typically really hard to find a new good salon- and one your comfortable at when being a new client at that. But these ladies are great. I came in for the lengthy process having some of the ombré coloring done and cut. Needless to say, I was here for a while. Because of the time spent there, I feel like you can pick up on the "vibe" of the place as a whole. And all-in-all, it was very family/chill. With a little bit of an artsy thing going on? I was entertained the entire way either by chatting with my stylist or listening to the stories the other ladies had to share. Everyone was so personable. Can I just say I LOVE this salon!! It's seriously the best and I'm not over exaggerating. If you want to go lighter and have super natural dark and THICK hair like me the person to go to is SAM. She is so wonderful I've been going to her for over a year and my hair before I got to her was awful and she managed to fix it and make it look SO good!! I haven't trusted anyone with my hair since then. I've gotten my hair lightened 4 times I've gone from having my entire hair ash blonde to going back to my natural hair color. After every session my hair was still SUPER healthy. I grew up in San Antonio and went to the same stylist for almost 7 years before I moved away for school. I've struggled to find a salon with a stylist who is talented and knowledgeable with color as well as does what you want them to versus them pushing their opinions upon you. After countless customer service nightmares with another local salon, I decided to go with Salon Seventwenty after coming across their Instagram after a friend got her hair done there. I scrolled through their feed and immediately fell in love with the work that Ellie does! I got super lucky and was able to get in the next day with her (I was in somewhat of a time crunch to get in so I was open to whoever because all of their stylists are talented from what I've seen)! Ellie was very thorough in asking what I wanted and I honestly showed her a handful of photos that were not really the same. She was so professional and polite and walked me through what each was to figure out exactly the look I wanted. I was in and out in less than 3 hours!! It was the best salon experience I have ever had and it was extremely affordable for the high quality! (I paid about $75-$100 less than what another local salon had quoted me) Ellie truly made me feel like a valued customer and not to mention, I LOVE LOVE LOVE my hair!!!! For the record, this was for a partial balayage. Not even my whole head. And I have in no way slandered the stylist. It looks like I have been inaccurately quoted in the salons response. Again, I was completely shocked by the $350 partial balayage and cut price. Also, this is a platform for customers to write reviews for other potential customers. Writing a "warning" review is absolutely acceptable and doesn't make me a bad person. Again, I would have appreciated seeing a review that stated a partial balayage and cut cost $350. It would have been helpful information during my search wedding through the hundreds of salons available in the area. I indeed found a stylist in the Stone Oak area who is in no way an armature and does beautiful work for a price that fits my budget; slightly higher than my norm, but not 50% higher. So for those customers reading this far into my response here, know there are options if you have a similar "budget" as me. read more
