While I wish they were still closer to St. Louis, the drive is worth it because the skills and service are unmatched. The installs are always neat and beautiful, and the salon offers a variety of hairstyles with high-quality hair. The knowledge, professionalism, and care put into the work really stand out. I was not happy with my experience. The owner was late. I got there right at 12:30. She did guide me to the shop. However she was about 15-20 mins late. She had to make a beauty supply run. Nice but late. I was charged for a shampoo and conditioner. I could have done this at home before I came. I was not told I would be charged for the shampoo and conditioner until it was done after. Then after my deposit I would be charged an additional $260. I was charged a la carte I think it was like $195 sew in $25 shampoo and conditioner $25 frontal piece (bleached knots I guess) $30 extra for the braids because my hair was short. It is maybe 1 inch and a half long. $5 for the net $20 for the extra bundle And there was another charge. Anyway my hair would be $310. I am very disappointed because I assumed this business was very professional. The lateness!!!!!! The shampoo and conditioner, the bleached knots to me should have been taken out of my $50 deposit. So in total I spent $100 on a shampoo and conditioner with products I use and I have a better product at home.(For licensed cosmetologist) Her reason for this charge was because it is a specialized service. I found someone after her like 20 mins later. And had to place another deposit down. I would not recommend this salon. Because of my experience. However, to each its own. I feel as if a client does not want to pay that something else could have been offered. She did offer me a sewin without a closure. It would be $210. Remember I had already given a $50 deposit. So it would have been $260 anyway. So I took the day off at work, paid a $50 deposit plus hair I purchased. All for nothing. Part B: rebuttal to your response. There are several reviews ON YELP with the same review as I made. I DO NOT CARE IF YOU HAVE IT ON VIDEO. OR ANYWHERE ELSE. DO NOT EVER IN YOUR LIFE CALL ME A LIAR or DISHONEST. THERE ARE REVIEWS THAT SAY THE EXACT SAME THING ABOUT YOUR SERVICE and PROFESSIONALISM. However, they added your tardiness, your horrible and irrational conversations, and conspiracy theories topics as well as your pretending to be godly acts. And your oh so holy demeanor. You did 5 people the same as you did me. You made all these charges ala carte (lolololol) and could not even explain why you jacked up the charges on there services. And if I'm spending my money I will call and question how many times I want when it comes to giving someone I don't know my money. I was supposed to come and show you my hair. However, guess what I was not able to get there. When you're in business that's what happens with customers. I had no issue coming and paying a consultation fee. However, I was busy. I am a consumer and I have a right to make sure I am getting what I pay for. LIKE I SAID I WOULD NOT REFER OR TELL ANYONE TO COME TO YOU. AND I PAID YOU A $50 Deposit. Whatever was done today should have been taken out of that. Instead you got away with an extra $50. $100 in total. And like I told you. You charge what you charge I cannot tell you what to charge. And I don't care if I am a licensed cosmetologist (for 28 years also). When customers make appointments whether they say sure no problem or not (whether you have somewhere to go)you should always be there before them and on time prompt and ready to work. If I was late to the appointment I would have been charged a fee. Or told I would loose my appointment and deposit. But because you are late to an appointment you made in advance you are trying to say I said no problem. What was I supposed to say "Oh no don't go." To a grown woman? Get the heck out of here! You had two weeks to go to the beauty supply store before my appointment. And since you have it on video make sure you pull up that you told never told me I would have to pay $25 for a shampoo and conditioner. You didn't. You said let me shampoo your hair then total everything it would be. The issue is you thought you had a lick. And you think you are more than you are. Pipe down. Honestly I got very bad vibes from you on the phone and my first mind told me to not come. But it seemed like you were a professional, and did good work. And let's not forget at 9:58am you called and asked me if I could come later. That's not professional at all. To call me the day of 2 hours before my appointment to ask if I could come later. When I took the day off to get my hair done. However, if I had of read your previous YELP reviews I would have known I was entering into a horrible place. Also if you have anymore to say to me about your awful customer service and my awful experience or anything else. You have my phone number and I would be happy to put you in your place anytime. In person or on the phone. Grow up and take a class on class and professionalism. By the way that is what I have paid numerous times in Florida. And the work is Chefs kiss! I do not usually do this but I feel like I was over charged. When talking to the owner for clarity, she poorly communicated the reasoning for her charges. Made it seem like I'm not wanting to pay. I don't mind paying just wanted to know what I was paying for and how much. I received the Sew Pretty, mini braids, long thick hair, 3rd bundle. Sew pretty $90 Mini braids $10 Long, thick hair $15 3rd bundle $20 Basically, I was told since my hair was long and thick she had to charge me extra. Firstly, my hair is not that long and thick and why charge $85 extra for long, thick when menu clearly says $15 extra. She was trying to explain and I just didn't understand. Somebody help me. Service was rendered so I went on ahead and paid because it's like we were standing there going back and forth, she began to get huffy and puffy, I didn't want to do all that in front of her clients so I just agreed. After I ran my card she put the receipt on the counter, said Thank you and walked to the back and I heard a long sigh as she got towards the back. Her worker said thank you have a good weekend and enjoy your Anniversary. Once I left and really looked at my receipt, I called her, still didn't get an understanding after about a 7 minute conversation. The call ended with her basically apologizing that I didn't understand. Please look at my before hair(not so long and thick) that was after I took my braids down, didn't get a pic of the blowout. It is hard to select a rating for this place. The hair quality is superb! The execution is solid, at least in my case where I've been getting the same thing for years. Timeliness is questionable. After I personally reached out to Kendra about being inconsiderate with my time, she was quick to rectify the issue every time I came in after. However, the whole vibe of the salon is just off. Conversation frequently includes cult like religious practices, conspiracies, politics, Kendra's upbringing-first being a music video extra to being a saved minister, bragging about her education and superb entrepreneurial skills, men's gray sweatpants season, buying a Porsche, and building a mansion in Lake St Louis. It is just uncomfortable and I count the minutes before I can leave. Pricing, outrageous. Wearing sew ins for years helped my hair grow out significantly, however all the up charges for small braids (necessary for longer hair), long hair in general (defined as anything below your shoulders), being natural (even after showing up with freshly flat ironed hair blowing in the wind) is just absurd. My bill has just gotten ridiculous. I called it quits, bought a nice decent wig and called it a day. It's an uncomfortable experience with Kendra's arrogant and phony professional persona, the environment is just weird, and the prices are unreasonable. Finally calling it quits after forking over thousands and thousands over the years. There are better options out there ladies! read more

The woman who kept me coming back was a young woman from California, who did an AMAZING job. Unfortunately, she left and the owner, whom I'd never had good feelings for, did my hair for the first time this year. She did not do as well. Her closure pulled at the front, which I've never had happen, to the point where I had to loosen it at home, luckily I'm good at sewing. As many of the reviews mentions, her attitude is not wonderful. She has this air of wanting to and pretending to be better than she is. I had been pondering getting a sew-in for a few months since I never had one before and wasn't sure how to maintain it. I finally decided to get one and chose Sew St Louis because of their awesome reviews and photos. The morning of my appointment, I met the owner and she was so welcoming and she gave me the services menu to look through. The stylist who braided/installed my hair was great as well and almost put me to sleep with how seamlessly she braided my hair. I got the versatile sew-in and it took 2 1/2 hours from start to finish. My hair looked amazing and was easy to maintain. I would highly recommend coming here! read more

Very professional staff and environment to get pampered. Staff is always friendly and greets you as soon as you come in the door. The owner has continued to raise the bar with a variety of services and styles to are affordable and of high quality. I recently got the new Microlinks braid less sew - in. Hair was extremely flat and husband continued to comment on how natural the style looked. Many of my friends could not tell that I had any extensions in my hair. The service is decent. This was my second time going to this salon. They do an alright job on the sew ins but I have strings hanging out and watch out for their pricing, they will try to over charge you. It is crazy how the first time I came I got 4 bundles put in, styled and curled and it was $185 but when I got 3 bundles, a wash, styled and curled it was $215!! I have never paid over $200 for a leave out sew in! Their excuse was, "well it was a lot of work?!" curling hair is a lot of work, ok. If you go to this salon just watch out for the pricing. So I have been going for years and recently stopped going because of constant travel for my job. I will be starting to go again, now that I am more settled. This place is great. I love the concept of how they work. They always do an amazing job and they make you feel right at home. "Classy place with ghetto tendencies" LOL I used to love this place, seemed like they had a great idea and service was fast and friendly. Over the years, I notice continuous price increases and constant changes in staff. At times I myself have been concerned with how the CEO/Manager treats/speaks to staff and customers. I have had several great stylist that have decided to no longer remain with the company, MELISSA!!!!!!!! YOU WERE GREAT, FRIENDLY, AND A ROCK STAR WITH CUSTOMERS! However, once again, as with several others, she has moved on. There is also a late fee for clients but no late fee for their poor misuse of customers time as they do not honor your appointments time. One of the biggest issues with salons if they like their time to be respected but often don't respect the times of those they serve. Perhaps a reminder is needed that this is not a free service but that you have paying customers! Natural hair/protective styles: They actually charge you extra for having natural hair which seems a bit much since they claim this is what the service is all about. So black women, just perm your hair and you can get service at a cheaper rate!!! (Sigh) Inconsistent pricing: One week the service is 105 and then depending on who is there the next time it could be 130-150! I just don't understand the inconsistency in service and payment. Some stylist are great while others are questionable. This means when you come in there is a long wait for the good stylist while everyone else goes to the subpar ones! Ooops that may have been too direct, but true! Sooooo... I called today to make and appointment and found out that Melissa was gone. I decided to try the Delmar location and the receptionist stated that this facility is by appointment only. So when I inquired on if the stylist would actually be respecting my scheduled time the response was " Well as I said before, it depends on how many customers we have that day!" WTF! Funny thing is she said it like what she said made the MOST sense!!! Also they only accept cash!!!! No cards, just cash!!!!!!! With all the price increases you all should be willing to pay the fees associated with the use of credit/debit card! This is my 3rd visit to Sew St. Louis Salon. I have been extremely happy with my sew in each time. The salon owner is always professional and accommodating. If you schedule an appointment they are always on time, which let's me know they value my time and business. The shop is always clean and nicely decorated. I'm thankful that there are black owned businesses that still value customer service. I give the salon and it's staff 5 stars. I would recommend it to all my friends. I've been to this business twice an both times I was a unsatisfied customer. I go to get the basic sewin for $50 an end up leaving paying $120. I was charged a late fee for being 5mins late looking for the place only to have to still wait 30 mins to even get started. The $20 late fee have to be paid before service. which they don't tell you about a late fee until you get their. They tell you one price but you get there an they charge you for everything! Texture of your hair, the length of your hair, braiding your natural hair for the sewin, they charge you for the type of hair you bring in for the style, charge you if your hair is still wet or if they gotta wet it. I sent my sister there to have her hair braided in a simple style going to the back. They charged her $90. I think that is highway robbery and that is ridiculous. They gave a price of $40 by phone and when she got there, she was charged $90. read more

12/6/2015 This brings true meaning to "You get what you pay for". I decided to use Sew St Louis because the sew-in are extremely cheaper then other places. This places is supposedly a salon but I would not categories it as that. What I have got from my experience from Sew StLouis is I would rather pay $150.00 to a real salon and get treated like a valued customer: I scheduled an appointment for 12/5/2015 at 11:00 am with a specific stylist at Sew Stlouis Salon. I arrived on time. This salon had a $20 fee if you arrive late and you are not given a grace period. At 12:00 pm the braider braided my hair. At 4:00 pm the owner directed me to a stylist chair, I informed her that I made my appointment with a specific stylist. She informed me that that after the stylist finished the client in her chair she had one ahead of me. I told her I would wait because I specifically wanted that stylist. While I waiting over five hour for a scheduled appointment I felt dehydrated and needed a drink. The salon does not provide free water for clients. The salon does have bottle water for a fee. I always carry bottle water in my vehicle due to my medical condition. I informed the reception that I was going to my car to get a bottled water and I would be back. The reception then told me I would have to leave my hair. This was a strange demand to me so I questioned her request. She then informed me that when customer leave they have to leave their hair or a $20 deposit. I explained to her that my appointment was at 11:00 am and it was 4:00 pm and I was next in line it would not make sense to leave now. She then said that was the policy, I wasn't happy with the policy but I left the $180.00 hair with the reception. I then got a call on my phone and put the hair back on the counter and walked out and came back in. The owner asked me can I step out side and I agreed. She then explained that there policy is to get a deposit when customer leave. I explained to her I understand that they may have customer that attempted to leave without paying for services but when you ask for deposits you have to use common sense, a customer that has been sitting over five hour with a hairdo that is not complete and unpresentable and who agree to wait would not try to skip out on a fee. I explained that a real salon would not require the client to leave a deposit or use their hair as collateral. I explain that maybe this policy was put in place due to her clientele or her salon location. She then explained that she has regular customers that has attempted to get in their cars without paying. I then explained that it was her business and she is going to run it the way she wants, I'll get my hair done today but I'll never come back. The owner then told me that I didn't have to get my hair done and I agreed. She then told me that I would have to $20 for a deposit and the braiding of my hair. I explained to her that I didn't get the services and that they could take down the braids. She said no she wanted $20.00 and that if I didn't give her $20 it would be stealing and she would have to call the police. I told her I don't believe she should get the $20 deposit and she called the police. Also according to her paper work braiding is only $10 , I do not understand why the owner was requesting $20 for a deposit, it was not a deposit but services I was paying for. The police came and the $20 was paid to her and the police instructed me to take it to court because it was nothing they could do and report it to BBB. The salon braided my hair several hours before services was rendered, if I decided I wanted to seek other services due to the long wait I would've had to pay $20. Braiding should be completed close to the sew-in process. I have never had a problem with the stylist but the owner is very unprofessional and need customer service skills. She called the police to her place of business over $20,instead of working with the customer like a good entrepreneur. Without customers a business will not succeed. There was no apology for the tardy services, customers are not provided with something simple as water for the long wait, customer are treated like thieves, and instead of making the customer happy for continuous business and working with them ,the police is called over $20. read more
