Vegetarian Torta and Sweet Papaya Smoothie
    Christina L.

So extremely glad I came here during my visit to San Diego. The vegetarian torta was one of my favorite eats from this trip and I still get a little sad I didn't get it one last time before leaving. It's a pretty simple sandwich but so delicious and filling. I also had the sweet papaya smoothie which I also really enjoyed. Need to come back to San Diego again just for this.

The mango mix smoothie was exactly what I needed on a late Saturday afternoon. Super fresh and bright. They have a little walk up area to pick it up at. The service was also friendly and they have seats outside. The fruit is really fresh and tasty!

I love this spot with cheap tortas but they're huge sandwiches and delicious. Of course a frutería isn't complete without some açaí bowl, fruit and smoothies. A go to in the neighborhood and not a long wait either! There is some seating outside but fyi the parking is limited in the area.

Freshly made juices. Service is quick if its not busy. I always come here if I need something refreshing and healthy.

Oh my goodness, this might be the BEST smoothie I've ever had. The perfect fruity sweet balance that does not taste artificial. Parking can be tricky as it's all street parking but luckily I came with my boyfriend so I just waited in the car as he went and ordered. It took a max of 5 mins to get our drinks from him leaving the car!! The only con I will say is that it was close to $10 per smoothie... in this economy, it's not that surprising but I can't sustain this lifestyle of getting it often. I'll be stopping by every time I have a sweet tooth!

Parking is a bit hard with only street parking but both times we go lucky and found street parking right outside. We got the strawberry banana smoothie the first time and the 2nd time we got the açaí smoothie both were delicious and refreshing since it was so damn hot outside. It gets pretty busy sometimes there was a lot of people waiting outside a lot of the time.

I will say that I did like this place. They had a lot of good healthy options available. I tried the green juice, which was amazing. Make sure that if you get that you ask for ice because they will not put it in if you don't ask. I will say some items on the menu are a little pricey. But then again, it's smoothies and fruit and whatnot, so it is gonna cost a bit more. It is a very small spot, so there isn't any seating inside. There's a small amount of seating outside. Parking may be challenging if you decide to come on a lunch break or busy afternoon because its located in a local area around other businesses but definitely would be worth it.

We ordered online to avoid the line. However, one worker said you still have to wait in line even with an online order. I think there should be a separate line for picking up orders. Other than that, the smoothies were SO delicious! I can't wait to come back and try their food too. Seems like a very popular spot among locals. This isn't really a place to sit and enjoy; just order and find someplace else to enjoy your order.

I've been coming to Señor Mangos for 15+ years and if I never reviewed it is because is like home to me. Opened in 2002 by the Leon brothers, Señor Mangos is the best Frutería in the city. This business is an elemental part of this neighborhood. It has been consistent, traditional while modernizing itself with time and keeping its classic menu favorites. You won't find fresher juices, smoothies and all your fruit and veggie bites and meals outside of here unless you want to spend a lot of money on some pretentious ass Farmer's Market that doesn't have fresh produce the way SM does. And the fact that I've consistently seen the same staff throughout the years, tells me this is a good place to work in. I recommend everything, from the classic fresh squeezed juices and smoothies, açaí bowls and fruit salads. But if you're really hungry, get yourself a "torta" (mexican sandwich). I personally like the lomo one with a vampire juice. Also, their fresas con crema and escamochas are an excellent dessert. Extra Note: Leon's Produce is a little bodega store right next to it. They're the same owners and you'll find produce and groceries you can purchase there. This is the time to keep things local. Let's keep our hard earned money in our neighborhood!!

Delicious tortas, and fresh juice, the service is great, courteous helpful, place is small. But nice

So fresh! The juices, smoothies, and fruit salads are all made with amazing ingredients. 100% a must.

I found this place through Yelp. We got there and we were the only ones there, but they were extremely busy with mobile orders. We waited around 15 minutes to get our fresas con crema. As much as I would love to give them 5 stars for the taste, the fresas needed a lot more crema and granola. The crema had a great taste but they should give you the option add more even if they charge extra. We waited outside so we wouldn't be standing in the front all awkward.

Does anyone know if they use fresh mango or a mango puree or frozen yogurt for their chamangos?

As far as I know they use all fresh fruit. You can see the fruit they use in the display when you walk in.

Does anyone know what they mix in their açaí bowl? Like sugar? It tastes it's super sweet compared to other places

I heard they're going to start serving beer and wine soon as well! *Best 1st-timer options*: The Keeper (if you like it spicy) or the L.G.B.T. My favorite hot sandwiches are the Cali Cubano, B3, and The Keeper, while my favorite cold sandwiches are the Avocado Highway, L.G.B.T. (lettuce, gouda, bacon, tomato), and Caprese. My favorite salads are the Grapevine and Duck Cranberry. For sides I recommend the potato salad and tomato basil bisque. The aioli they use is to die for -- can't hurt to get a side of it with any sandwich! The restaurant is situated on the corner of Park Blvd. and Polk Ave. (more generally, it's on the strip of Park Blvd. between University Ave. and El Cajon Blvd.). There is usually a good amount of parking on Park Blvd. and Polk Ave., which is nice. The space has a simple-yet-tasteful modern design and interior, is always clean, with friendly and helpful staff. Great for lunch hour or a weekend date. Update: Came back today with my friend and we ordered the B3 and the Turkey & Cheddar Mousse sandwiches, plus sides of potato salad and cucumber salad, and a double chocolate cookie with pistachio and sea salt. Everything was really good, but the Turkey & Cheddar Mousse sandwich was the star of the show. The cookie was great too. We both agreed the potato salad could use some salt, but besides that it was a solid meal all around.

On the first visit, Zack provided exceptional care and attention while helping navigate food allergies. Zack took the time to carefully check ingredients, double-check preparations, and personally come back out to verify everything to ensure safety. That level of care made the experience feel genuinely welcoming and stress-free. The chicken sandwich was fresh, satisfying, and thoughtfully balanced. Juicy chicken, ripe tomatoes, creamy avocado, and a bright splash of oil and vinegar came together beautifully on Big Front Door's roll, which had a great texture and held everything together well. The flavors were clean and vibrant. A little extra salt would have pushed it over the top for a salt-lover, but that came down to personal preference rather than any shortcoming. A dining companion ordered the avocado sandwich and could not stop raving about it, praising both the flavor and the freshness. The outdoor seating area deserves special mention. The shaded space was perfect as I do have sun allergies, especially for anyone who prefers relief from direct sun. The care taken in food preparation added an extra layer of comfort and trust. The second visit somehow raised the bar even higher. Micah went above and beyond to accommodate physical ability needs with patience, attentiveness, and genuine kindness. That effort did not go unnoticed and made the experience feel deeply respectful and inclusive. The roasted chicken sandwich ordered on the second visit was phenomenal. The roasted chicken was tender, savory, and full of depth, elevating the sandwich even further. Adding a bit of extra salt brought all the ingredients into perfect harmony, making every bite more satisfying than the last. This sandwich has officially earned a spot as a new favorite sandwich. Big Front Door was amazing not just for delicious, thoughtfully prepared food, but for the people who work there. Zack and Micah created an environment where care, kindness, and respect were clearly prioritized. No moment felt rushed, dismissive, or uncomfortable. At no point did anyone make the experience feel like a burden or inconvenience. A sincere thank-you also goes to the team members who prepared the food. Even without knowing names, the care taken to keep guests safer while serving delicious nourishment was evident and deeply appreciated. Big Front Door comes highly recommended for the flavorful sandwiches, the shaded outdoor space, the welcoming atmosphere, outstanding customer service, and the genuine kindness shown at every action.

It could really use a spread added to it, like a chipotle mayo, pesto, chimmichurri, etc. Communal coffee has MUCH better breakfast sandwiches to warrant the high price tag. The 2 "Bulletproof" coffees were the biggest disappointment. They tasted like a bitter cup of hotel drip coffee with coconut oil added. I pointed out to the barista that a Bulletproof usually has grass-fed butter to give it creaminess. She said they didn't have any butter. :( We ended up pouring out our coffees on the walk home. Maybe the South Park Meraki location is better, but I would not recommended this location University Heights. We'll be sticking to Communal Coffee next time.
