Mayan Remedy Juice and one of the signature bowls
Jen N.

Overall this is a great spot! I love all the different options they have, not only for their bowls, but juices, smoothies, toasts, etc. I feel like everyone can find something they like. I get something different every time and have never been disappointed. I have found a little inconsistency with staff and opening times as someone else mentioned, but generally staff are nice and helpful. Prices have gone up gradually over the last few years, which I understand. Hopefully they can hold steady for awhile now. If you haven't been, go check it out! Definitely one of the best options for bowls in Central San Diego!

Let me just start by saying: **Roots Bowls is SO good.** Like, *worth-the-drive-and-the-wait* good. If you're a fan of açai, smoothie bowls, or just generally feeling like a health goddess while eating something that tastes like dessert -- this place is a dream. First off, the **portions are massive.** They do *not* skimp here. And the best part? **Unlimited toppings and bases.** Yes, you read that right. Want three kinds of fruit, granola, almond butter, coconut flakes, and a drizzle of honey? Go for it. Want to mix acai and pitaya? Do it. You can customize your bowl like crazy, and it somehow always ends up looking like something straight off Instagram. Now, the only reason I'm docking a star -- and I hate to do it -- is because of consistency with opening times. I showed up *two separate mornings at exactly 8 AM* (their listed opening time), and no one was there. That was a bummer, especially after making the trip out -- because they're not exactly around the corner from me. That said, once they *are* open, the staff is super friendly, and the vibes are as fresh as the ingredients.

North Park Bowl

Updating my review because I tried a new flavor. The price has gone up, unfortunately, but it's about what you'd expect to spend on an Açaí bowl in a place like San Diego. I've previously had and loved the North Park bowl, but this past time I tried the Roots bowl and I may like that one even more!

Turkey Sammy, Detox smoothie, and free bag of chips (:

After an unwelcomed disappointment at LIV smoothies, I walked in here to be welcomed in instantly. What a 180 haha The place is tiny, and there is some parking around back that is shared with a Mexican food place next to it. They have about 5 tables to dine inside. I decided on a Detox smoothie for much needed greens, and a turkey sandwich to go. I would say I waited for my purchase about the same amount of time I was ignored at the other place lol. The associate made them quickly and even gave me a free bag of chips! An added bonus. Omg the sandwich was PILED high with deli thick sliced turkey breast. This place is not stingy with the sandwich fillings. I definitely recommend this place.

I had a craving for something refershing and thought this bowl spot looked like a fun option as they seemed to have unique base options. I got a custom bowl 2nd size up with the taro and coconut baseand the chia pudding. I was bummed to find out rheyvwere out of mango for topping or I would have tried their mango base. Instead I got strawberry, blueberry and kiwi. I also got goji berrries and two types of granola. I found the bases sweeter and not as refreshing as I hoped. I like ube when they have fresh taro chunks and not to much sugar, and the coconut had kind of a cloying taste. The toppings were all nice, but it just didnt end up being my refreshing vision. My boyfriend had gotten their dragonfruit, and acai bases and I thought they were a lot better tasting. They also have sandwhiches which are massive. He had gotten one and while it was very elaborately constructed the meat used wasnt my favorite. I'm picky about my lunch meat quality though. They have outdoor and indoor seating. There is parking in the front that has a fee depending on time of day, but I think behind the building might be free parking for patrons.

Needed a quick energy fuel for our morning shopping and this place did the trick. There's a variety of topping and base selections for the açaí bowls. The juice tasted fresh and the chia seed pudding was good although I wish I had added honey for more flavor. The staff were really sweet. They have inside and outside seating. Parking is on the street.

My favorite acai bowl in the whole city now that Northside Shack closed. This place PACKS their bowls with toppings and the bowls are so delicious. My only complaint is that there is sometimes too little acai base/coconut sorbet base in comparison to the toppings. Otherwise it's incredible in flavor and size.

Roots bowls has great Acai and service! My family and I all loved their bowls and delicious bases. The Acai was smooth, not icy and was in its purest form! Definitely not blended with other fruits or fake stuff. The pitaya and coconut bases were delicious as well. They have great portions and load the bowls with lots of fresh and healthy fruits. They only had one employee working there at the time, so the wait was a bit long as when we arrived, he was busy making another customer's sandwiches (which looked delicious by the way). But apart from that, he made our bowls quickly and was very open to any special requests we had for our bowls like removing or adding toppings and bases. Overall great experience and a must try for one of the best Acai places in San Diego!

I went with a build your own acai bowl and the ingredients that I believe are a must order are: COCO base (10/10), chia pudding, almond butter, blueberries, and granola of course The coco base tastes like coconut ice cream, too good This place has a great selection of acai bowls and smoothies. Price is pretty avg for the area, maybe a little more expensive than other acai spots but I'd say this is one of the better acai bowls I've had in SD so worth a try!

Stopped in here today for an açai bowl. You can create your own or they have premade ones including they also have a wide variety of smoothies, healthy shots and Sammies. We got an Aussie bowl with granola, mangoes, kiwi, and blueberries. 12 ounce size could've put anything in for $14. The fruit is so fresh and it's a delicious. Highly recommend. .

Delicious Açai spot in San Diego. I've been here twice and it's absolutely delicious. Many flavorful combinations, cute & clean interior with a good atmosphere. Parking's a little tough, but totally worth it!

This place was so cute and a moment in its self! The food was delicious and average/competitive prices. The menu has small font which was hard to read. The toppings are all displayed infront of you. The club sandwich was large and perfect! So worth the money. The ingredients were all very fresh. My biggest complaint was the employees seemed irritated or at the least stand off ish. It was a delicious lunch mid thrifting.

My favorite salads are the Grapevine and Duck Cranberry. For sides I recommend the potato salad and tomato basil bisque. The aioli they use is to die for -- can't hurt to get a side of it with any sandwich! The restaurant is situated on the corner of Park Blvd. and Polk Ave. (more generally, it's on the strip of Park Blvd. between University Ave. and El Cajon Blvd.). There is usually a good amount of parking on Park Blvd. and Polk Ave., which is nice. The space has a simple-yet-tasteful modern design and interior, is always clean, with friendly and helpful staff. Great for lunch hour or a weekend date. Update: Came back today with my friend and we ordered the B3 and the Turkey & Cheddar Mousse sandwiches, plus sides of potato salad and cucumber salad, and a double chocolate cookie with pistachio and sea salt. Everything was really good, but the Turkey & Cheddar Mousse sandwich was the star of the show. The cookie was great too. We both agreed the potato salad could use some salt, but besides that it was a solid meal all around.

Coming back to send my love to my favorite sub place…read more I've sadly moved to a different part of town so Fatboy's is no longer a few blocks away. I still try to stop by every few months as this place holds a special place in my heart. A no frills spot. Solid and consistent. To the point but friendly customer service. Fantastic drink, chip and snack selection. Sandwiches are always bomb asf. The hot momma and BLT loaded up is my favorite. My husband still loves their Ruben (it is his favorite place to get it.) You get a small potato or macaroni salad on the side with a pickle (perfect crunch.) I personally think it's a great little add on. Their chili is also simple but delicious. I personally think their chili pairs perfectly with any of their sandwiches. It's not a heavy thick chili. Which is why I think it pairs so well. I won't lie it's a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. It's loaded up and good quality. I never feel gross or overly bloated after eating here. I will be coming back to Fatboy's until I move out of San Diego or die. lol. One of my favorite gems in SD. Always will be worth the drive or walk. Thank you for always delivering even years later.

I used to frequent Fatboy's because it was close and convenient for a long time, but I am rarely able to visit anymore... parking is a bigger challenge every day in North Park, and finding even a 15-minute spot takes way longer than the drive for me now (but the walk is too far to pick up a quick meal). Today I was down the street for something else so decided to order a sandwich. I was excited, then my jaw dropped when I saw the price increases. It's $18 for the North Park Club now, with no extras. I already had a hard time justifying $15 for a sandwich but I'm officially, 100% priced out now. I know it's not necessarily on the business owners; rent is exorbitant in NP, profit margins are small in the food service industry, and operating costs are high. Our city is eating itself alive, but thank you for the years of sandwiches!
