While it has been a couple years since they did the work at our home, we are still so dissatisfied with their work done. The biggest complaint was our big and hearty Japanese persimmon tree in our backyard. At the time they landscaped our backyard, the tree had so many beautiful little persimmons growing into what appeared to be another year of more persimmons than we could handle! My mom (now deceased) planted that tree over 50 years ago and we enjoyed sharing the fruit with so many friends who loved them! SGV Gardeners put mulch in the planter where the persimmon tree was. NOTE: Mulch in that planter was NOT on our contract! We watched the leaves on the tree start to wilt and die along with all of the fruit. Shockingly, the entire tree died in a very short time. We found on the internet that you should not put mulch up to the trunk of a persimmon tree or it would kill it. It was so heartbreaking to lose something so special and beautiful, not to mention something that held such tremendous sentimental value!!! In addition, they planted our hydrangeas on the opposite side of the backyard (full sun throughout the day) and they shriveled up and died. Ling mistakenly sent an email to me, intending it for Cesar, the man she works with. The message said, "I got her to close for..." and listed the dollar amount. It sounded like a "gotcha". They definitely WERE NOT worth the price paid. They also damaged an area of the finish we had just completed on our beautiful planters. Thankfully my husband noticed and pointed it out. They initially tried to deny damaging the planter but thank goodness I had had just taken pictures of the planter prior to SGV starting so they had to accept responsibility. We definitely DO NOT RECOMMEND them. I would score them -10 (negative) if I could! read more

Unfortunately I will have to retract my positive review of this business. They started off strong but became EXTREMELY unreliable and unresponsive. During my prepaid quarterly contract, they missed about 2 month's work. They only canceled twice with excuses. All the rest were no shows. At this point I asked for a pro-rated refund and was told by the manager she no longer works there. I was given no alternate contact. Not recommended. Don't do a great job at all. The gardeners must keep your house clean without being told what to do. A straightforward gardener works lawn, trims, and uses a blower to blow dry leaves. That's essential gardening work. If you're going to use them, ensure you tell them what to do to get your house looks clean; if not, you will get charged an extra for the same job again. You need to monitor them every time of your service. If you don't, your house will be like a jungle one day. Please don't put yourself in their hands with your confidence. They will give you a lot of excuses and end up you will pay $$$ to clean up what they left out for you; they do lesser than the minimum work that they suppose to do. I reached out to SGV Gardener because I was in a pinch. I needed some work done to avoid getting cited. Ling came out to do an estimate and was able to come by that same day to give me a quote. I have a very small front yard and was quoted high. I even laughed at the price considering how small my place is. I understood though since I was asking them to do it the same week of the quote and on a Saturday. The did a pretty good job. They came on time and was professional. Do not use this company at all. When I was dissatisfied with the regularity of their work, I canceled the 3 month contract with two months remaining in early September 2022. It is now almost the end of October and no refund has been issued despite several attempts to contact them. They do not return phone calls or texts. They promise the world and deliver nothing. They require you to pay 3 months in advance, that should have been the first red flag, then Cesar rarely shows up. EIther his truck is broken or it is raining, which is funny since we are in a severe drought. They messed up our sprinkler system and once again in June, Cesar's truck broke down. We had enough and let them go, they owe us for the last 2 week of June and the office person, Lynn promised us our 2 week refund 6/21/22, yet we are still waiting. Today Lynn told me that she looked and the check has not been cashed, I responded, that is because we never got it. We are getting the runaround and now I am forced to file a small claim case. I don't like writing bad reviews, but I think SGV really needs to get their business model in better shape. At first we were happy with the service, Ling walked us through all the details for our yard and in a few sessions the crew had cleaned up a lot of what the previous gardeners had let go. Caesar in particular made sure things were taken care of. I was a bit put off by the very large clean-up fee up front and paying $180 per month, but thought maybe it was going to be worth it for more professional services. That's when the problems started. We rarely saw Caesar after that point - and each week it appeared to be a different crew who took much less care in their work. They also started missing our scheduled service day - in the last 2.5 months they were late 5 times (showing up 1 to several days later) and missed 2 weeks altogether. Ling was always quick to respond to my text messages, and she did make good on the 2 missed sessions. But it seemed odd to me that they were always having breakdowns, flat tires, equipment failures, and miscellaneous "emergencies". I felt like I wasn't getting the full story and it was exhausting to continuously track down when/if our gardeners were going to show up. Having to leave my gate open for multiple days to accommodate their unpredictable schedule was unacceptable. I would have expected something much more reliable for the price. read more

Great people, great work. They work hard to go that extra mile - often repairing my sprinkler heads which are often broken. They also fix section of broken sprinkler pipe. SGV gardeners have really helped improve the look of our yard over the past several months we've been with them. They suggest the watering schedule and maintenance and have reseeded portions that were damaged by drought. Our previous lawn mowing service always cut our grass very short, even if the grass got tall between services, which is bad for the health of the grass, especially in the summer. SGV Gardeners by contrast adjust how much they cut for the health of the grass. So all in all, a huge improvement. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is this: the schedule is a little unpredictable for my taste. They come weekly, but sometimes it's Tuesday, sometimes Friday. So if a Tuesday week is followed by a Friday week, the grass gets a bit tall and shaggy between visits. The other thing is that we pay quarterly, but holidays and rain delays aren't pro-rated. I view it as a quarterly sum for whatever service we get, but it would definitely earn another star from me if the quarterly fee was for 12 weeks of actual service, adding any missed holiday or rain delays onto the end. That said, our grass is doing much better and we're sticking with SGV. read more

DISHONEST!!!! They cashed my check for $330 for services they didn't provide! I wanted to mulch and start a service with them, but then cancelled the mulch so should be owed $180 back. I WAS GOING TO STOP PAYMENT BUT Ling said on 6/25/21 the check won't be deposited but it got cashed anyway, then she told me the refund would be mailed. On 7/9/21 I spoke to Cesar Cruz and he *said* because I was also unhappy with the service, he'd refund that to me too. As of today, no refund. Their gardener also did terrible work, hacking at my mature rosemary bush and vines, blowing the leaves and dirt and leaving a huge pile of dust in the corner that I had to sweep myself, or leaving certain areas full of leaves. They charged me for 12 services with a contract for 4 services a month for 3 months. At the end of the contract period, they had only been to my property 7 times. Of the times they did show up, they straight up refused to do what I asked in the yard once. Another 2 or 3 times they showed up on the day after my trash pickup instead of the day that they were supposed to, so I ended up with 2 services and only 1 green barrel. At the end of the contract, I fired them and demanded a refund for the 5 times they didn't show up, and was basically told to go screw myself. I'm determined to get my money back, so I'm going to take this business to small claims court, but just know that you absolutely should not hire them because they WILL screw you. read more

This place is a total racket and will basically try to steal money from you. My parents hired them to service the yard and they have missed multiple days that we pre-paid for. First they missed a day in July. My mom calls and they said they would make it up. Then they write up a contract for a 3 month prepaid period and leave out the day they owe us. Also, they had said they were going to do a lye treatment on the grass in the front lawn. This never happened. Next they don't show on Labor Day. My mother calls and they said they don't work on holidays but they charge for them. "It's in your contract". How is that fair to anyone scheduled on Mondays when most federal holidays happen to fall? Okay, fine. I guess we should have read the contract more carefully but I've never heard of a gardener getting paid holidays before in my life. Finally this month they have missed the last 3 weeks in a row. First they sent us a pic of a flat tire and told us that's why they didn't make it. Last week, no word at all so we sent an email letting them know we just wanted a refund for the weeks they owed us since they can't seem to get their act together enough to actually do their job. The response was they showed up this weekend and called us liars and tried to say that they had come to cut the grass and trim trees on the day in question. Okay first off, we can see if the grass has been cut and it obviously had not been mowed recently. Second, there are 3 of us that live in the house under quarantine. I am living here with my infant daughter, my mom is working from home and my father is retired. Are you going to tell me that even though all 3 of us were here ALL DAY LONG that we somehow missed the gardeners doing work? Frankly this is where I got really insulted. What happened to customer care or service? Last I checked you treat your patrons with respect, not lie to their faces. Today... yet again they haven't shown up and we have heard nothing of a refund for the month of service we are still owed. For the price and frequency they come a month they've done a great job at keeping our front lawn (grass with assortment of plants) and back yard (all concrete but always a layer of leaves from vines above) clean. I love that every weekend I get to step into a cleared backyard not having to sweep them up myself for my child to play since they come on Thursdays. Things like removing weeds cost extra and you need to request trimming on bushes and plants. I appreciate that responses are quick and the gardeners are always friendly. read more

Highly recommended if you want gardeners who have pride in their work and care about your yards instead of just going through the motions and doing the bare minimum. We've hired Cesar to take care of our front and backyard overgrowth for two years now as one-time jobs. Cesar and his sales manager Ling are both very professional and honest. On both occasions, they provided very reasonable quotes compared to the other gardeners in the area who wanted to charge far, far more. They also clearly spelled out the scope of the project before beginning their work so that everyone knew and agreed to exactly what we wanted them to do. Cesar was extremely efficient yet friendly the whole time he and his crew worked on our property. He had a very positive and proactive attitude, gave us periodic updates on their progress, and asked us for feedback on the work they did. When the sun was setting at the end of the day, Cesar wasn't fully satisfied with the already extensive clean-up, so he and his crew returned the next morning to do a few more passes until he was completely pleased with their work and felt they had done their job right. read more
