Finding a Chinese restaurant in suburbia with authentic and quality ingredients is a rare feat. Shaanxi was absolutely delicious. The hand-pulled noodles were spicy, garlicky, chewy and incredibly satisfying. The fried pork dumplings were some of the best dumplings that I've ever had. Surprising depth of flavor and a delicious dipping sauce made these dumplings stand out and I'm a dumpling lover. I really hope this place sticks around. It's so rare that authentic Chinese restaurants exist, let alone in the suburbs. I plan on coming back here often and bringing anyone and everyone I can. Top notch. read more

Great authentic Chinese food here. You won't find crab rangoons or chicken fingers at Shaanxi Gourmet! Come for the Kung Pao Chicken but don't eat the red peppers!! :) Dumplings are handmade and each noodle dish I've tried has been good. Four stars because last summer it did not seem like their AC was on. That and the shape of the interior screams retrofit. Otherwise the price is right and food as close as it gets to Chinatown without traveling into the city. Definitely recommended. read more

This is probably the best Chinese restaurant in Boston. This was certainly a pleasant surprise. The 大盘鸡 (big plate chicken) and 麻辣香锅 (mala pot?) are super tasty. The 凉皮 (cold skin noodles?) was good as well, but versions I've always eaten has been without the peanut or sesame paste. Takes some getting used to. Anyway, will be coming back for more. so satisfied with the food and restaurant! my wife and parents in law are shaanxi-nese. I was in xi'an of shaanxi for 7 years. We moved to US half a year ago and found so many so-called chinese restaurant become american style, except this one. we visited at 7 Pm. The code skin noodle had been sold out, which is so famous food in the whole china. the owner told me it was the second open day. they would prepare more. the chinese burger is just like what you eat in Xian. Compared to the other express food, juicy is so important. The soap of qishan noodle soap is very good and shaanxi style. The lamp soap with bread is good and tasty. although they need some improvements, I had this food in US! Shaanxi food not just for express with a few kinds. still want to try more. The best Xian food in the area. The noodles are fantastic, fresh and tasty. The vegetarian dumplings are the best I have ever had, including in China. The service was friendly, gracious, and attentive, no waiting. It's true, they have just opened and are out of some things, but what they have is amazing, and it will be fun to go back to try other dishes. read more

On my way to work I had ten minutes to dive into the fairly new Shaanxi Gourmet and claim a quick table for one. The affable Hostess Lily walked me thru the menu, explaining a bit about the Central Chinese cuisine. The place was packed with families and the plates were flying out to happy eaters. I got the 凉皮 Cold Skin Noodles which were toothsome and lipsmaking with garlic, chili and bits of crisp cucumber. Nice spicy ma la kick. I also grabbed the small Qishan Saozi Mian conjured in a pork broth with ground meat, chock full of more chili oil and garlic. The "thin, pliable, smooth, sour, spicy, scented, hot, watery and good kind of greasy bowl with lily stems, scallions, chives and handmade noodles was right on time. 锅盔夹臊子 large baked Wheat Cake with Qishan style pork sauce. Words fail me. (The spicy garlicky vinegary pork sauce goes inside the presliced wheat cake but you can't see it there). Now a happy memory. Attentive staff at 11:30am also rolled out hand pulled noodles and fried dumplings; 锅贴 You break these crispy pork dumplings off like postage stamps then mail them to your mouth. I've been to this place a couple times and I'm trying to incorporate it more into my dining rotation. It's got a diverse menu, so even though I've really liked almost everything I've had there, each visit I attempt to get menu items I haven't tried before. That said, I really like their sizzling lamb dish and their hand-pulled noodles. They've got an extensive selection of spicy dishes if that's your thing, all of which I've thoroughly enjoyed so far. The wait staff's friendly and it's had a pretty chill tranquil vibe during all of my visits. I have been this restaurant several times before. The food is generally ok - not the best of ShanXi food but you get some taste of it. I went there 2 weeks again but this time the food wadisastrous. The bread is not fully cooked. The Chinese cabbage is sweet and sour, spicy and numbing at the same time! It's like the chef didn't know what seasoning to use and decided to add them all. Tried it couple times. great restaurant with original and authentic Shaanxi tastes for most of its food.

It took them more than 30 minutes to serve 2 dishes and one of them(yolk braised tofu) was terrible.

We read about this restaurant a few months ago and really wanted to try it. But after reading the reviews on yelp, we decided not to go because of the negative reviews about its service. Today we went with friends who recommended their food. We came away with favorite impressions. The food was good and tasty. I am not a connoisseur of shaanxi food, but I liked their 肉夹膜，羊肉泡馍，the twice cooked pork, the stir fried A vegetable, the Chinese chive cake, and the vegetable dumplings. They had a buffet stand where you could order the appetizers to deliver to the table. Unfortunately many ran out when we got there. But the few left were quite good. The cold cucumber, union and wood ear, and pickled celery and carrot, very good. The service has certainly improved from what I read before. The waiters and waitresses were friendly, but could use improvement on their efficiency. The environment was simple but clean and pleasant. We will go back again to try more dishes. read more

The most authentic Shaanxi food I've had in US. Pick anything on from the menu, it won't disappoint you. But the Shaozi noodle哨子面, cold glass noodle凉皮, spicy pork feet麻辣猪蹄 are on my weekly takeout menu. Also love the mango juice. read more

I was excited about this place before its opening. Yesterday I called in to order a dish and heard the hesitant and reluctant tone of the cashiers. They finally said we might as well show up in the restarant and order face to face. I got there and walked in asking for one dish for takeout. The cashier asked his boss and then told me that the dish I wanted was just out of stock. It was in the middle of the day and they should have enough material prepared for the night time. The two stars are only for the food. Waited 20 minutes, the only thing came is a coke that I ordered with dishes. You have to wait at least 40 minutes to get everything you ordered on weekend. Food is okay here. But it takes them forever to get you a coke from fridge. Not even to mention cooking you something to eat. If you are hungry, don't go to this place. Tried this last night for the first time, and knew right away that we're going to be regulars at this restaurant. We ordered vegetarian dumplings, one out of their many varieties of spicy noodles, spicy shrimp, and stir-fried vegetables. All were mouthwateringly good. Northwestern Chinese food (from where they found the terra-cotta soldiers) is by definition oily and spicy, so don't come expecting low-fat options. But if you can put away your preconceived notions about what "Chinese" means, you're in for a treat. Northwestern-style is fast becoming _the_ regional Chinese cuisine-- the way Szechwan-style used to be. read more

I don't think I had ever had food from this region before, but I spent the last 21 years living in NYC and have eaten a lot of good Chinese food, from both Manhattan and Brooklyn Chinatowns. I moved to the Boston area a year ago, and every Chinese restaurant I've tried has been a bust. This is the first place I've really enjoyed, and actually wanted to return to (over and over again). I'm a pescaterian, so can't speak to many things on the menu, but absolutely LOVE the Fish with Chinese Sauerkraut, as well as the appetizers from the buffet at the front (particularly the taro root). So disappointed! I order one dish at 6:01pm, and they kept me waiting at an empty table more than 40 minutes! During this period, I asked the waiter to check my order several times. Food taste good, BUT dining experience is horrible!!!!!!!! When I first saw there is a Shaanxi restaurant near my home, I was so excited and can't wait to try. I have been there for three times, and none of them is a pleasant experience. The first time I went there was around dinner time, I ordered the Roujiamo to go, and it took them forever to get my order, seriously forever. I saw lots of people waiting in lines and frustrated. They were so lack of management that they don't even know if my card is charged! The second time I went there at noon just after their lunch open time. I ordered the Saozi noodle and I have waited for nearly 40 minutes to get it, turned out they forgot my order! Are you kidding me?! Well, I decided to give another shot so I went there for the third time today. We are the second table of guest, however, it still takes them forever the prepare the food. And the waiters there are not friendly, I have a feeling that they are just waiting beside your table and eager to get the plates out of your way even though you haven't finished eating yet! I am not sure if I have the patience to go to this restaurant again. And for those who wondering if the lamb kebab is available, forget about it, their lamb kebab machine is still not there yet! read more
