Real Chinese food, freshly made. Dishes were light but very flavorful. I have a food intolerance to garlic and onions and they were able to accommodate on most dishes. You can select the level of spiciness on the Sichuan dishes. We especially love the cold noodles, beef chowfun and whole sea bass. Service was excellent. read more

I have heard such great things about this place from others, so I had to check it out myself. Safe to say that I wasn't disappointed. Some of the best authentic Sichuan food I've had in the US hands down (trust me on this, I'm well traveled). But what's better than the food is the people at the restaurant. Our waiter, Angel, was the nicest person I've met this whole pandemic, and her mom is a complete gem. I'm full not only from the amazing food but also the kindness of everyone at this restaurant. Another exceptional meal at Sichuan Gourmet house for my wife's retirement party with our close friends. Started off with garlic Cukes, bamboo shoots in chili oil, scallion pancakes, chicken pot stickers, soup dumplings , and cumin lamb skewers. Every dish was extremely well executed. The lamb skewers and soup dumplings were amazingly tasty. Followed by Cheng du ma po tofu, Cheng du kung pao chicken, Cumin lamb, Yu Hsiang eggplant, dan dan noodles and a few more smaller dishes. I was craving some Chinese food so I tried this place out and got the Beef Lo Mein and Chicken Tenders it did not disappoint. The Chicken Tenders are pretty doughy but I like it's great with the sauce and Lo Mein was pretty good. Would recommend if your looking for good take out in Boston. read more

Thought this was part of a high quality consistent chain- Sichuan gourmet in Framingham and Burlington, but it's not! Food came out warm but closer to room temp. Chengdu dry fish -was wet and not crispy! Dan Dan noodles -taste more like Hong Kong chow mein, thick noodles. There was no sesame paste or red chili oil. The only thing that was decent were the green beans and even that came out slightly warm. Service was slow and front desk person seemed very stressed even though there were only three tables that had guest. Take out person was very nice but my god the food is really bad compared to the other Sichuan gourmets I have been to. They really should change their name. This is very confusing. We got here on the later side - around 845 on a Sunday night. They close at 930 pm. The service was very attentive but they couldn't wait to serve us and get us out of there. Waitress rushed over to get us to pay so they could close out the register. We were still eating. Had they just said we're closing up - come another time -we would've gone to any other number of places in Chestnut Hill. I understand they wanted to make a sale but it was the most rushed and unrelaxed dinner. My friend took me here and I was very impressed. They have your traditional foods then your American Chinese foods! They had Peking Duck, so next I will be trying that. There cold noodles are great with a little spice. There Mongolian beef was packed with flavor and portions were great. Service was shockingly nice, they are very polite and proper. Second time here. Dinner service again. Saturday night 6pm. About 70% full of people. Adequate parking at lot. Chilli noodle is served cold. Noodles are slippery and goes well with the spice but not something I would recommend. Kungpao chicken was the least favorite dish of all the ordered dishes this time around. Cant really describe what I dont like about it. There is just a taste that is throwing this dish off. Not recommended. Eggplant tasted great with the cilantro. One of the best eggplant dish I've had. Recommended. Green beans are okay. Nothing unusual for Chinese restaurants. Recommended. Maos pork wasnt as good as I thought. I liked the fattiness of the pork but not too crazy about the sauce. Not recommended. Cumin lamb is good. Nothing special but recommended. Sichuan fried rice was okay. No complaints. It was unusual to me because I've never had this type of fried rice before but it's not bad. Recommend to try. Overall, the second time eating here was about the same as the first time. Very average. When the menu is big, it means they are not a master of any of the dishes so you are getting more misses than hits. Same ratings as before. Nothing special besides the eggplants. I would only come here with older generation Asian people like my mother or uncle. Otherwise, I wouldn't bring my friends here. Hope that helps. read more

Decent place, with dishes that hit or miss. The ox tongue appetizer was decent, nice and spicy, a mix of beef and tripe (there was some tendon, but it was maybe tougher). It's nice that there were peanuts in it too. There were small bits of cilantro, while I wish the cilantro to be cut more long. The mala flavor was present and noticeable. Weaker were the "Ants on a Tree" (small portion, meat not small enough, and the noodles too chewy) and the Szechuan boiled beef (had slices that were too thick, almost 1980s-style beef with broccoli thick). Good that the place has been around for a number of years, but I hope it gets stronger in the cuisine department. I'm looking forward to maybe trying out the dumplings at a later visit. read more

Nine out of ten Chinese restaurants I used to like had gone downhill after the Covid pandemic. As a result, I go out a lot less often because I don't want to spend money on food that is not even good. Today, we decided to go Sichuan Gourmet for lunch as it was close to my in law's house. We just got three lunch sets and they definitely exceeded my expectations. They were all cook to order and the flavor was authentic and delicious. Mulan, which was used to be one of my favorites, didn't do that anymore. I'm not going to spend my money on food that is pre-made. Portion is normal but all I care about nowadays is the taste of the food. I didn't take any pictures of the dishes because I was prepared to be disappointed. I chatted with the waitress there and she told me that the chef was over sixties but insisted on not getting retired. She was attentive and spoke fluent English and Mandarin. By the way, the restroom is the cleanest I have seen among Chinese restaurants. So stop by if you get a chance. Good restaurants are hard to find now and we need to give them support as much as we could or we will lose them forever. read more

I ordered the pork dumplings and the sweet and sour chicken, the latter being my test entree for first time Asian restaurant visits. The dumplings were tasty although I didn't expect them to arrive in a bowl of broth; but it was also tasty. The chicken was a different story; first off you have to order your own rice with this dish. Plus, you should know that I have a prejudice against heavily breaded, deep-fried chicken pieces accompanied by a thick, neon-colored sauce, which was exactly what was delivered to my table today in the late afternoon. (I prefer light or no breading; breading is just empty calories; see the photo for what I removed, essentially 3/4 of the volume.) More details: most of the remaining chicken strips (the size of fast food French fries) most were white breast meat but two of them were impossible to chew and didn't even look like chicken. The tea was good. Throughout my dining experience my server was very curious and told me she had only been there 3 days; I gave her a nice tip. There were only two other tables taken and there were two loud guys at the bar; the noise level with these few patrons made me wonder how loud it must be if they ever have more than 6 talkers in attendance. read more

IMO, because of the many wonderful options, one should never eat alone at a Chinese restaurant; however, it is what it is and since I am traveling alone for work and don't know anyone in the area, here I am - alone. I came because they offered several versions of whole fish. I came at lunch and realized that a whole fish and some sides would be too much. Instead, I opted for the lunch special of a black bean fish filet. This meal also included soup (hot and sour), rice, and crab Rangoon. They had soup dumplings and since I could not resist, I ordered them. I was greeted by the very friendly hostess who seated me and chatted about missing her former home in Orange County, CA. The menu is beautiful and must have cost a pretty penny to produce. The pages were large, in full color, with many pictures and descriptions of the many menu items. I started with the hot and sour soup. It was hot and has a perfect spiciness. The crab Rangoon were just ordinary. No crab flavor - real or imitation - was detected. I do not know what kind of fish was used in my main dish, but the consistency of the fish was like that of softly scrambled eggs and I found it rather off putting, though I ate it because I was hungry. The portion was generous and the red and green bell peppers, onions, and black bean sauce made it more palatable. Next, the soup dumplings. The dough was rather thick. I presumed that it was to hold all of the delicious soup inside. But, no. Not much broth at all. The meatballs were flavorful, but more broth was needed. read more

Spicy Fried Rice... Trust me It's not traditionally flavored fried rice. So don't start eating with those expectations just try it. It is the most unique fried rice I've ever had. And I'm not a fan of fried rice. But the SFR, my mouth is actually watering thinking of it at 8am. Husband likes insane spice and has the capsicum chicken.
