Firstly they are layering 2 extra charges on your bill that can be hard to calculate in the heat of a dynamic , fast paced auction. Then , apparently, you have to pay taxes on these charges as well as your goods. Then you get home, and the stuff is either damaged, or used without being identified as such. So you drive all the way back, wasting time and gas only to have someone argue with you that "It's all used" or "read the fine print" , "it's all as is" or putting photos they lifted off the internet as the main photo instead of the actual item. They have every excuse. It simply is neither worth it, or fun.

I dug into some reviews and read the complaints on the BBB site too late unfortunately. After a few…read morenegative experiences of my own, (I should have learned the first time) there is a very clear pattern of poor customer service, warehouse disorganization and ridiculous charges titled 'handling fees', and 'buyers premiums'. Yes, you can absolutely get some amazing deals, but you have to be extremely diligent with your research and paying attention to all of the photos and carefully reading the item descriptions. If you do not, you are likely going to waste your money. If you read through their Google reviews, you'll notice that almost every single negative review is met a response from the 'owner' who just spins the story around to make it look like it's the customer's fault. Zero accountability for any errors made by their staff. Worst business ethics ever. I honestly don't know how they stay in business- but I guess if you steal from customers, you can make a decent living.

One saleswoman waited a safe distance behind me while I looked at shirts and moved in quickly to straighten and fold as soon as I turned my back. No greeting or eye contact. I literally stood at the checkout counter in the mostly-empty store for three minutes before I was acknowledged. Stock varies but the customer service here is terrible. I don't like being mobbed but it's discouraging to have to chase down someone to open the fitting rooms when I'm one of 2 or 3 customers in the store. Ratio of staff to customers 1:1. Not good.

We tried the auction platform listing 92 items. A couple of very high-end antique pieces and MCM furniture pieces. For 1800s Empire Period Sevres amphorae, a pair of urns, we got $111 BEFORE Max's 30% cut and for MCM Eames-style loungers we got just under $50 for the pair. We would not use this as a selling platform again and would caution those thinking to sell on MaxSold that it is best for clearing out a home or a garage sale type of offering of lower-end items or items that have little to no value to the seller.
