Had diner before a flight. The food was disappointing. Maybe a different item choice would have been better. Fish and chips fish was not so good. Not firm. The fries were OK. If eating there again, I would select something else. The salad with seaweed and tuna appetizer looked really good. Really nice tuna portion for an appetizer. I got a taste from one of the people with me. The seaweed was really quite good, but the ahi tuna had a lot of connective tissue. I had not had that before, and for all I know, that is normal. The person who ordered it thought it was good, and so I suspect that is normal. I was picturing a sushi style tuna before I bit in. Now I know. Service medium. Very nice décor. Not loud. Prices... moderate. The prices on the 2-sided menu are just whole numbers with no decimal point or dollar. Fish and chips was I think 17. Not $17. We did get some free tortilla chips and fixings from the happy hour setup. That was rather good. Tided us over while waiting. Most people were around the bar for happy hour. Sportsbar concept with decent food. Located at the double tree hotel. Very convenient.

We came to Shade Bar and Grill after a wedding. We were there (4 of us) a little earlier then the rest of the crowd so we sat at the bar and we all ordered a drink, there was two other gentlemen at the bar not with our group so the bar was obviously slow. Another part of our group showed up and they immediately went down and sat at a few tables in the dining area. Maybe 5 minutes later the manager came behind the bar and said loudly, no more serving them alcohol throwing his hands in the air (we had one drink?). Loud enough that the other customers all began looking just as confused as we were. You would think this was the managers first time working in the customer service field considering how poorly he handled this simple situation. I found out through a waitress he wasnt serving us anymore until we moved to the dining area. We were never once asked to move the dining area, if we had known we would of gladly went down there. We were paying customers and I'm not sure what the issue with us sitting at this empty bar was. The look on my face must of been inviting enough for the manager to then ask me if there was a problem. Which is when I then told him how he handle the situation was wrong and rude. He then explained he had a paper in the back that said we were supposed to sit in the dining area. I responded saying that he could of just told us that from the beginning and this would of never been an issue, he than threw his hands in the air and walked away. I didn't order any other beverages or food so I can't speak for how the quality of any of that is, but I would not recommend to come here with a group or at all. Maybe it was the managers first day? For a hotel bar it's very nice! Happy hour is fantastic! Offer prime carving station on Tuesday, pasta night on Wednesday and its free. Too bad people take advantage of their hospitality. I have been to this place several times when traveling to the area for business. The staff has always been nice and helpful. The food is great for the price and the beer selection is good too. There is usually a game on and there is no lack of TVs. Overall, a comfortable place to sit and relax after a long day of flying or work. read more

The atmosphere is cool: it's unintimidating and laid back, yet professional and hip at the same time. The lighting and décor is spot on. There's a nice selection of draught beers and I was very happy with the reasonable prices especially since the menu is fairly eclectic. Our large party ordered, among other things, nachos, pan-seared ahi tuna, chicken parmesan, Shepard's pie, and mac and cheese. Everyone left satisfied. If I lived in the area I would definitely come here to watch a game, grab a drink, meet friends for food or grab some bar food with a friend or solo. I have eaten here several times, as I stay at the double tree for business on a monthly basis. Their menu sounds good, but the food, even the house specialties, are less than appetitzing. The service is poor for the most part. Today I dined alone and was given my food a long with a single fork. No silverware set, and not even a napkin. On a few occasions me and my group also recieved our orders/tickets incorrectly. Honestly, if I had a car and wasn't confined to the hotel, I'd rather eat other places. Anywhere but here. Its also expensive and not worth the money. Staff is friendly though. Lauren is always great and accommodating when you're lucky enough to get her as a server. read more

Excellent beer selection and great staff. Best happy hour any where. Went on a Friday and there was a chef manned seafood pasta station. Told the chef my tastes and in seconds he made me a plate of pasta I would have been happy to order off the menu. Bar was really busy for happy hour but the bartender was on her game, my glass was never empty and she was very knowledgeable about their extensive draft beer selection. My husband and I are Shade rewards members for the past 2 years. We have had many good meals there and we were surprised at the quality for "hotel food". There have been some changes there lately and they are not for the better. The staff, who've always been pleasant, appear to be walking on eggshells, and there is a new face who is omnipresent. It appears to an outsider that this gentleman is the new manager, and he's attempting to micromanage everything. The quality of the food has gone down hill. The baked potato was an all purpose variety and the sea scallops I ordered were the smallest I've seen. I even asked if I received the appetizer scallops by mistake.The salad that was served with the dinner was served in the smallest salad bowl I've ever seen. The happy hour is still very good,but the atmosphere doesn't feel too happy anymore. I truly hope things turn around. read more

This place is cool because they are open late. I never really like the food when I come here but it's the late option aside from driving to hartford for something late. Tonight I ordered the chicken broccoli Alfredo. It taste so bland and crappy. I wish they had a real chef come up with some good stuff. If they could pull off some reductions sauces from the meat, render some flavor, deglaze with some wine or buy some better ingredients maybe they could have some happy customers. Something that made me upset is that the bartender tossed my food over and never made eye contact. I needed Parm and pepper. Aside from that I asked about the salad I did not receive 10 minutes later when I flagged her down. She said "I'll give it to you", like it was a privilege that I could get the dinner salad that never came with my meal after the pasta was already delivered getting cold. I just hope the owner reads this and makes some changes. This place could have so much potential. I find it strange that the restaurant is so nice but the food and service is so drab. If the food matched the quality of the construction and quality of the place I would be very happy. Just left shade bar and grill. Myself and four other people with me were denied service after showing multiple state issued ID's. The manager with blonde hair was extremely disrespectful and I have never been treated like this before in a restaurant. She argued with us for several minutes and then proceeded to tell us that she did not believe our STATE ISSUED ID's are real and she would serve us if we ordered through someone else that she believed was of age. Not only is this disrespectful, it is extremely unprofessional and outrageous. Would never recommend anyone to come here ever. Horrible customer service and the blonde manager on 10/20 should be fired to be quite honest. read more

The service in this place was abysmal. Our server, Beau, only came to our table once and we never saw him again for the hour we were there. The blonde manager was incredibly rude and aggressive. Went there for dinner tonight, hostess was very nice, atmosphere was very nice, wait staff horrible!!! Our waitress never introduced herself took our order, when food came out dropped it and never seen again. I went to ask the bartender for water after about 30 minutes, she had attitude. A few minutes after me being back at our table, another waitress came over, again never introduced herself, asked if we wanted our check, not would you like coffee or desert. We said sure, she dropped it and hovered waiting for our credit card, after running it she dropped our Chek and never said thank you. First, it's cold enough to hang meat. Menu looked typical of pub food. Ordered a beer from tap and the ribeye. Beer came fast enough and then the dinner plate. Ribeye was ordred medium rare - viola! It comes out well done. Manger tried to make it right and asked what I was drinking - a black and tan is not pilsner in color. They jacked my order up form the begining. I did not get charged for anything but the beer, but come on, it was not even busy, maybe half full and they can't a single dinner's order even close to correct. Stay away. read more

A very pleasant surprise. Great location, though I was expecting a hotel bar and found the hottest "local" place. And for good reason, great,knowledgable staff, huge beer selection, generous TV viewing, all well placed and great channel and game offerings. The food was awesome but the service was horrible. The waitress was rude and then we sat for almost an hour before a member of our party had to go to the bar and get a refill of water because no one came around. Finally when another waitress did come around she was rude and pretty much pushed us out the door. Never asked if she could get us coffee or dessert. Just asked if we wanted the check and then hovered waiting for us to pay the bill. She acted like we were putting her out to do her job. Never said have a good night or anything when she returned with our receipt, just dropped it on the table and walked away. The place wasn't even busy other then the bar.
