Shady Grove is a fun and standard place to go with your friends to grab a drink and dinner. The food is on the pricier side, but from what I've tried, it's good. The food menu is HUGE and a little overwhelming. I ended up getting the Korean fried chicken sandwich. It was quite good! Went to Shady Grove for lunch with the family today and we loved it! We were walk-ins on a busy day and they kindly put our name in, we waited about 30 mins. It's a walkable area so we walked around but stayed close and got a text when the table was ready. Our server was great, super kind and accommodating! I got the bruschetta to start off - pretty good! The Ahi Tuna Poke Tacos were amazing!!! Highly recommend. My brother got the chipotle chicken tacos and I swapped one with him and it was pretty spicy (in a great way!), but be warned. This establishment has no facilities for handicapped. We brought a wheelchair bound person to the cafe and they had only 2 tables that could accomdate a wheelchair. Both were occupied while other non wheelchair tables were open. Instead of asking the patrons at the wheelchair enables tables if they would mind moving they told us "sorry you'll have to wait" the staff was clueless. Had a nice time sitting out on the balcony for dinner at Shady Grove! I ordered the korean fried chicken sandwich with sweet potato tots and a blackberry mojito. My drink was good and I enjoyed my chicken sandwich. There was very little sauce on the sandwich though and would have loved to see more of it since I could barely taste the gochujang. My sweet potato tots got mixed up with my boyfriend's side of the waffle fries but it wasn't a huge deal and we were able to swap the sides on our own. This is one of my new favorite places in Shadyside. I have wanted to eat here for a long time and finally got the chance this past weekend. I love the setup here with lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Our server, Shidrokh was so nice and friendly. She explained the best drink and food options for us. For drinks my wife and I both tried the Adult Capri Suns. I had the raspberry flavor and it was so good. Great drink for a hot day. My wife had the watermelon and liked hers as well. On to the food. Shady Grove has a lot of different options. I wanted to try so many different things. For an appetizer we had the buffalo chicken dip. This was some of the best I have ever had. While buffalo chicken dip is by no means a complicated dish, some places do it right and some places don't. Theirs was a perfect amount of spice and sauce. It also came with some really good grilled pitas. For my meal I went with the Steak House Burger. The burger was topped with sautéed spinach, bacon, onion straws, gouda cheese and a garlic aioli. These toppings were very fresh and balanced out which made for a delicious flavor. The beef itself was clearly fresh ground and had a great taste. It was slightly over cooked for my medium rare request, however the burger was so juicy and flavorful it didn't really matter. The burger came on a fresh brioche bun which held everything together. The sandwiches and burgers come with waffle fries which were very crispy and had a great seasoning on them. They also have some really good house made ranch which went perfect with the fries. Hit Shady Grove after a long run and chose it over The Yard next door as I figured it might have a bit more character. Walked in at opening and sat at the bar. The server was pleasant and helpful. Actually, I noticed all the girls at the counter seemed quite happy and smiling, singing, etc. I liked the happy vibe. I was suggested a couple of popular items, and was pointed to the chicken and waffles as being a hearty meal. I had just run for 2 hours, so I went for it. It didn't really do much for me. It was indeed fairly heavy... waffles, fried chicken, bacon, egg, etc. all piled on top of each other. A little lettuce and tomato was also peeking underneath. I think I would have liked something simpler. The 'piled on high' aesthetic is not what I go for, although I understand there's a school for that. I was hoping for a bit more elevated chicken and waffle. I would have liked the sweet potato tots and the waffles to have bit more crispiness as well. Service was nice, staff was great. Hello, I hope this message finds the management at Shady Grove. My wife placed an order through DoorDash which I went to pickup. Your host correctly directed me to the bar for pickup. I was pretty quickly addressed which was good as the bar was fairly busy. I started to explain that it was my wife's account and thus I didn't know if it would be under my name (Matt) or my wife's name (Phatsaya) or my wife's nickname (Chom). I didn't get to explain as the bartender - not yet rude but kind of short - cut me off and said "I just need a name". So I said "Matt or Chom". He said "Tommy?". I said "Chom" and he walked away to check the kitchen. He came back and said that it would be a few more minutes. I had no problem with this as I did arrive 2 minutes early and I honestly would not have been upset if the order was 5 or 10 minutes late so I waited. He came back a few minutes later and asked my name again. This time I said "Phatsaya or Chom". He shot back "I can't hear you dude!" I'm 40 years old. Apart from being addressed informally, I was pretty upset by the unwillingness to help a customer with an issue. After this exchange, this first bartender did not attempt to assist again and seemed to tell a second bartender to deal with me. The second bartender did at least attempt to understand my situation. I tried to give her an order number but she said she could only take a name. I said "Phatsaya or Chom". She checked and said it wasn't there and walked away to clean glasses. I had to flag her down a few minutes later to explain that I had been texting my wife and she told me to check under my full first and last name. At this point, the second bartender checked the packages again that had been sitting at the bar for this whole 30 minute ordeal and said "oh this is yours". I subsequently explained that I was trying to take food back to the hospital where my wife was sitting with our recovering son. At this point, she did apologize but honestly, even if we hadn't been having a tough week, is this the proper way to treat a customer? Last thought. I am not one to write negative reviews. For years, my wife and I lived up the street in Squirrel Hill and have been to Shady Grove more times than I can count. We were fans but I have to say that today really soured what had been entirely positive experiences up until now. YUM!! My family and I came here on a whim during our shopping trip, and we had such a wonderful experience. From the appetizers to our entrees, I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious everything was. We started off with the guacamole deviled eggs and jerk chicken strips. I wasn't crazy about the guacamole deviled eggs, but the jerk chicken tasted amazing. Next, we each ordered 2 summer salads, and a southwest chicken salad. The summer salad was excellent; great flavors! My mom loved her southwest chicken salad also. I can't wait to come back and try some other options on the menu (particularly, the unhealthier things). Shady grove is a great restaurant to stop in while in shadyside. Their location is great, tucked in right off the Main Street with plenty of seating. I have been here dozens of times and the last three were during COVID. They serve traditional American food with some unique twists. Their menu (which you can access online as they don't currently have physical handouts) is extensive with tons of options for apps, salads, wraps, and tacos. They have a full bar and used to have daily specials, but the only current special is Happy Hour Monday-Friday 5-7pm, which is $3 and $4 draft beers. They have about 10 outdoor tables between their up and downstairs along with limited indoor seating. Not sure what happened the first two times during COVID, but the service sitting outside upstairs was sparse. Could've just been the day/server. Last night I was seated downstairs and the service was great. The food is standard, but what gives it a bump is some of their unique twists. For apps, some a go to would be sweet potato tots or the shady sticks (big portion). For something different, try the platanos Fritos. For wraps, I usually get the fried chicken General tso's, subbing the fries with French onion soup. I also really enjoyed the Korean fried chicken sandwich that came with a sunny side up egg. One of the only things that disappointed me this last visit was the grilled jerk chicken fingers app. Rather than actual tenders, it was literally a chicken breast cut into pieces. That said, it is worth checking this place out. But be warned, if you typically have trouble picking something out because of all the options, this won't be an easy choice. read more

I have eaten a late lunch here twice in the past two weeks. I have a sneaking suspicion I'll be eating here a LOT! First time I had some sort of burger with habanero cream cheese that was amazingly good. The cream cheese calmed the habanero so it was the perfect degree of spiciness. Today, oh today! I had the Jerk Mahi Mahi salad. Salad perfection! The fish had a nice grilled brown crust on the bottom and was a wonderful flavor of jerk spiciness (notice a theme to my tastebuds?). Iceberg lettuce (ok, meh) with tiny cubes of pineapple, roasted red peppers and other stuff dressed with a side of homemade creamy avocado. I almost licked the bowl when I was done. Great draft beer selection rounds it out. I had great service, but I was here both times in the early afternoon, so not a good time to judge good service (although, in my opinion, it is a good time to judge bad service ). read more

Highly recommend having brunch at ShadyGrove located in Shadyside. It's one of those restaurants where you have the luxury to dine as a group at a table or at the bar. The bar is very spacious and can also hold a group of people. I actually decided to dine at the bar. Their menu can satisfy pretty much about everyone's appetite. I'd decided to order a stiff mimosa and chicken with waffle and sweet potato tatters. Their chicken and waffle was delicious. The breaded chicken was so flipping tasty and crunchy and yummy. Apparently the syrup was already soaked in the waffles. Get this...they had a touch of avocado and lettuce hidden underneath the waffles. I thought it was creative and this gave a healthy kick to the meal. It was my first time trying sweet potato tatters and I absolutely loved it especially with bit of Tabasco sauce. This trip was my absolute first time in Pittsburgh, and one of my co-workers suggested I head to this area of town to shop. After asking several strangers where to go eat dinner, and them all responding with "Shady Grove," I decided to check it out! Well, I can see why everyone loves this place. The bartender Keria was absolutely fantastic. I had the amazing guacamole devil eggs. I know it sounds insane, but they are delicious. I also decided to try the jalapeno popper dip since two locals said it was the best (order half chips and pita). It had to be the best I have ever had. Do not hesitate. Just go, and you will not be disappointed, especially if you are new to the city, alone, and on your first visit here. I really had to stop myself from eating the whole thing as my meal. A+ The KFC sandwich was overall very good but it was topped with a sunny side up egg which - while it was cooked and seasoned perfectly - didn't add anything to the taste of the sandwich. Shady Grove is a jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none type of establishment. It has been a regular spot of mine for years now. Shady Grove has a highly varied menu with lots of selection. While I would say it's a quantity over quality selection, all of the options I've tried have always been very good. You can't really go wrong with anything you order on this menu Shady Grove is great because of its versatility. Need brunch? Lunch? Dinner? A place to grab drinks? Want to see some live music? Shady Grove can do all of these things. The drink selection isn't amazing, but it gets the job done. On the upper floor, there's live bands, musicians, and DJs playing at certain times. That said, the crowds are pretty small and it can be a little awkward standing in such close proximity with so few people. I'm a fan because I've always had good times at this place. Went here with my roommate on Friday. I had been to Shady Grove to drink before but never to eat. It took 45 minutes to get a table, but it was Friday at 7 pm so that is to be expected. First time at Shady Grove and we selected this restaurant because of the wide variety menu and pet friendly dining on the patio. I started with the strawberry mule which had fresh strawberries so I enjoyed that. For appetizers we got the jalepeno popper dip which you can order with chips or warm pita (we went with the pita) and edamame. Both were delicious but I wish the edamame was little but more salty. The dipping sauce was very good though. I got the steak tacos for dinner which I would definitely order again.
