My friends and I traveled all the way from Seattle, and one of the main reasons for the trip was that one of us really wanted to participate in Naked Karaoke. We arrived around 9:30 p.m. and immediately put her name in to sing. After nearly three hours, her name still hadn't come up, even though the queue at times appeared to be very short. During the night, the DJ mentioned they were looking for tips. She first tipped $10, but her name still wasn't called. At one point, the DJ even performed a song and commented that "$5 isn't going to move anyone up." By then, she was getting ready to leave and asked what it would take to finally get a turn. In the end, she spent a total of $50 in tips just to be able to sing. Meanwhile, people who had been sitting near us were called up twice before she ever got her first turn. It gave the impression that unless you were tipping heavily or were part of the regular crowd, you weren't a priority. It was really disappointing because she had been looking forward to this experience and we had traveled all the way from Seattle for it. She left feeling unwelcome and excluded. We enjoyed the venue's atmosphere overall, but the karaoke process felt unfair and really put a damper on the night. I just think if you pride yourself on being a place of inclusion and acceptance, you should do it for each and every person who walks in the door. Not conditional on how they look, where they're from, or what they like. Please remind staff to try better. read more

This was my introduction to these types of clubs. I came here on a Wednesday so I could ease in, it was a game bang night! I really enjoyed my night here, I wanted to come back for a goth night yall had after but I had just got a tattoo. So I have yet to make my return. I love how reinforced consent is. This 21+ only club was fantastic. Early in this evening, there was a well organized Speed friendshp/date opportunity. The only suggestion I have for them is to provide lower seating access for those with cane's or wheelchair, as this is an accessible and disability friendly space. Throughout the entire event, there was someone to reinforce safety, consent, and helping facilitate equipment use. There were DMs walking around the crowd to assist with any untoward behavior. The space was fun, but a few more private spaces would be welcome. The DJs were on point. I did not try the food (bar food snacks), but the mocktail I tried was delicious. read more

The person who checked my ID was super kind the whole time. The food is pretty good and the drinks are always solid. My only issue is the type of porn they play on the tv. Sanctuary is one of 3 Lifestyle (swingers) clubs in Portland but quite different from the other 2....and to us vastly superior. First off it is "gender neutral" which means everyone pays the exact entry fee regardless of "gender"....that means single guys pay the same as single women or whatever else you identify as. As a couple this policy is not as good a deal but as a couple who enjoys play with single guys it is great. The other big difference compared to the other 2 is they don't cop an "attitude"......the 2 couples that own the club are usually there and they and there staff are very welcoming and friendly (another club in particular fancies itself as "upscale" and the staff definitely has a "attitude" and it is peopled by a lot of "posers"...you do not see that here at Sanctuary. Of course it is Portland afterall so there is a lot of "hipsterism" with weird hair, weird clothes, tattoos and piercings but no one seems to care that we are anything but Portland hipsters. The club is quite small...in fact it is essentially an open bar space with vinyl couches for play. There are 3 small alcoves..one with 2 beds, one with one and a 3rd with the typical BDSM equipment (again not our thing) By far the biggest negative is there are no showers whatsoever...wish they'd just install one or two open stalls....we are clean freaks and wish everyone else shared that trait. We like "cum showers" but after it is nice to have a water shower to clean off before heading outside. As already mentioned the overall space is rather limited so it can completely fill up which means long waits or go somewhere else....best to purchase in advance! The other issue we have is it seems they are always trying to have a theme...many of which are not our thing. We like to keep it simple, sit at the bar, meet and chat with others and if we find people of interest then play.......but if not we still have a good time in a Pearl District bar where you can dress and behave as "slutty" as you like! The day is September 30th, 2023. I was prepping up for a night I knew I wouldn't forget. As a horny mid 20's guy in Portland for a few days, i obviously Googled "sex". I walk in, see a completely naked dude, a few couples having sex, and a bunch of vampires (most had no fangs though - genetic mutation?) My research online told me that if I'm going to have sex, I will need to talk to people - ouch ;) 30 minutes later and my attempts had failed. I hop on the techno dance floor, see a girl, that might be a guy? Standards are low. Start doing a little bit of eye action - she/he asks me if I want to make out. Ok it's definitely a guy now. I politely reject the offer. A few minutes later, hop off the dance floor sit down and couple of hot lesbian couples are making out with each other on both sides of me. Ok bingo. Would I like to be included in the action? Absolutely. But better than being at home alone watching Netflix? Probably? A few convos later and no luck. I look over and see some dude having a threesome. Ok a little jealous now. Some creepy dude sitting right next to them staring at them. Ok awkward. The clock hits midnight and the DJ starts the typical political commentary that apparently must be included a vampire orgy - 2023 what can I say. He/she/it starts talking about how men are at the bottom of the totem pool for sex - after tonight I obviously know that by now, no need to say it Burlesque dancers start doing stuff. We tried to go on the first Saturday of January 2020. Cover was $15 before 10pm and $20 after 10. We got there just about at 10 and they were already at "max capacity" and were turning people to their sister bar, Candy, to wait. There was no system for waiting, they were letting in 4 people from the stairs at Sanctuary and 4 people from Candy but in no order. We have been to Sanctuary Club many times in the past when they used to host "50 Shades of Shut the Fuck Up!" and really enjoyed the people and atmosphere. It is the only adult club in Portland that I felt was really welcoming to all alphabet-types. It was always clean, the staff was alert but not intrusive and the bar tenders friendly. We usually went with friends and just enjoyed the party (meaning not there for hooking up) but there was plenty of opportunity if that's your thing. Sadly, Covid ended those parties and I don't know if Mistress Viola will be starting them up again. We went Saturday night (September 11th) to see Laughrodisiac. It was our first time back and definitely a different vibe than the 50 Shades of STFU parties. A nice crowd of about 10-15 couples and maybe 5 or so singles. The staff were as good as ever, both at the door and the bar. We LOVE that you had to show proof of vaccination to get in and it made the difference in our deciding to go to an inside venue. Our only letdown was that the fans were extremely noisy, and we couldn't hear any of the comedians. We noticed two other couples that moved several times, possibly for this reason. If we go again, we will look for seating close to the front. It is still our favorite adult club in town, they enthusiastically welcome everyone and we applaud their vaccination policy. Ex employee as of last Friday. Of all the disconcerting things the owner of this club has done, this was the last straw. The owner was aware that people outside the establishment had guns and were targeting the area. Supposedly, the cops were called. I was a customer that night and drunk so I didn't even no until later that night when I overheard management talking about it outside. The club was shut down early and no one was told why, or about the people with guns. We were like lambs being led to the slaughter. I asked if I could go inside to sober up and not be alone. I was told "no that the club was closed and I could wait drunk in my car." So I had to walk alone to my car and sit in a dark lot waiting for someone to get me. The lack of concern for safety is reprehensible. Now, that the club is getting busy they still have, by choice, a skeleton staff so there is no one watching out for client safety which is becoming an issue. They put in such an amazing effort to keep the club clean during covid but I guess they've stopped caring. read more

This place is amazing. The only place I can sing karaoke in a post covid world and not only did the opportunity help me have an outlet for my performing Jones, but the staff are amazingly courteous and personable. The bartender in the back is always on point. ALWAYS. 2 of the wait staff are absolutely amazing and tentative in all of the best ways. Faye couldn't be any sweeter and has a keen eye for how people are feeling in the moment, and always quick to check in at the perfect moment. The heart and soul of the wait staff must be Corinne. Not only does she engage in the singing on karaoke night she puts as much energy into making individuals feel at home and comfortable, as she does her 3 minutes or so with the mic in her hand. Because her temperament and willingness to go out of her way to make solo riders feel like part of the group, I've made it a point to come back every week without concern or worry about it feeling like "sitting alone at a bar." She treats every individual like a personal friend she has known for years and on days she comes in as just another patron, she exudes the same energy and attention to others as an ambassador of sanctuary, setting the bar high for what I expect in a service industry. This place has saved myself from covid depression, one night a week. Big thanks to DJ stags for taking the time to set up and run the show. So happy it's another karaoke Friday already. Saw the reviews about the great Covid safety measures and I haven't been since Covid started so I checked it out. It's still pretty much the same great place except they have a new menu and the food is way better. Before it was just your usual bar food, now its a Southern vibe and way more fitting for this high class club. There has also been a staff change, not sure why but the new staff are really nice. I really like the brunette that goes by Painelope. They always have a conversation with me which is especially nice if I'm by myself I feel less weird and more included. When it's with my friends they still come by and chat with everyone, it's just a nice extra. I hope they all stay. read more
