Basic late-night bites, another link in the chains This place came in recently, but haven't had the opportunity to try them till just recently. Came in after the gym for a post-workout bite. Place is open, clean to almost a sterile feel to it. The menu board was bright and colorful, with that level of polish you only get with a national chain. Ended up getting a chicken salad with all the fixings. Their signature white sauce, roasted veggies, chickpeas and hummus, the works. Food was assembled moe's style, staff were friendly, price was reasonable. picked up my food and drove home. Quality of the chicken and veggies was good, fresh and prepped in house. Because it's a quick service place, lots of the foods were cooked long before. So the chicken was spiced well but dry and needed the signature white sauce. The sauce itself was a little thicker but general tzatziki. Not bad, just very much out of a container. The chickpeas were marinated and were a pretty tasty bite, those were good. The roasted veggies were also well prepped and added sweetness which was a nice contrast to the lightly bitter salad greens. Price for portion was average for a lunch place. 12 dollars for a salad is right at that "little high but acceptable" range. As a late night halal place, it's cornered a unique market. It's fine as a dining option, but is poised to be one of the few dining locations for people who practice that style. I believe that there are better representations of that preparation in that area, but many are not open late, even a lot if the chain restaurants in that plaza close up well before this place closes up. In that way, they are an acceptable late-night dining option for the area. It's not great nor really good food, but it's decent fare you can get at most hours and one of the few halal places around. If you practice that, then this will suffice. For the rest, it's an option if you want cleaner bites for lunch or a late food run read more

The food was delicious and plentiful. The service was great and the restaurant was spotlessly clean. We ordered the beef/lamb combo platter and enjoyed it. I have been looking forward to trying this place! My friend and I walked in and noticed it was sparkling clean and there were three smiling employees ready to help us. We both ordered the falafel plate and were told it would take a few minutes for the falafel to be ready. We also ordered the fried pakora and a container of assorted baklava that was on the counter. We grabbed drinks from the cooler, paid, and sat at a table. We were called up when our falafel was ready. We both asked for the falafel on a base of half rice and half lettuce. Then the six falafels were placed on top and we were offered several toppings. I wish I had taken a pic of all of this but I remember they had black beans, a sautéed onion/pepper mix, a cucumber/tomato salad, hummus, onion, tomato, cucumber, chic peas and a variety of sauces. We both absolutely loved our meals- great flavors with hot sauce on the side to kick it up as needed. The fried pakora was a nice treat and you can't go wrong with baklava. We noticed fun music being played in the background and tried to control ourselves from having a dance party! A nice gentleman came to our table to check if we were enjoying our meals. Not sure if he was the owner or manager but he was great! He told us the grand opening is coming up soon! I'm glad to have another lunch place with vegetarian options nearby! This was my first time trying halal food and I was thoroughly impressed! The bowl I selected came with chicken, beans, rice, vegetables, and chickpeas all in a bbq sauce. The restaurant has you selected your bowls moes/chipotle style, which offers a lot of customization! The bowl was super filling! I especially enjoyed the chicken! The staff was excellent! They were all so nice! The food was exceptional! I had the combo of falafel & kofta. The Kofta had a slight kick but it was delicious! I am obsessed with the sauces! The steak & cheese was smothered in white sauce and absolutely delicious! I loved the chips and the fries were thick cut but Crispy! They have great wings with a little spice in them as well! Was out and wanted lunch, but not a burger and decided to give them a try. The space is very clean and nice, a good start. I was in he mood for a gyro, a word of caution here , they don't do a traditional gyro. The meat is cut in cubes and they don't have Taziki sauce. That said i had it with the white sauce and their lime sauce, the "white sauce" was not really distinct. The owner reccomended a fork and i am glad she did as the sandwich fell apart. I also had ther fries and banana soda, wow that was good soda. On the whole, while not exactly what I was looking for it was very good. Lamb gyro is actually made with a blend of beef and onions. Very seasoned it's hard to tell what you're eating and chopped so fine it's unrecognizable. The sandwiches were overstuffed and not well wrapped making it difficult to eat. Contents kept falling out with every attempted bite. I ate it with a fork off the wrapper it fell on to. Finally gave this place a try! Always forgot that it's tucked away in the Shop Rite plaza. Plenty of options to choose from and customize. My fiancé got a combination gyro which can with chicken and lamb, and I got the chicken over rice plate. I love all the fresh veggies and sauces. The hot sauce is ACTUALLY HOT. I had them cover my bowl with it, and luckily I do enjoy and can handle spice. Glad to say, it actually IS spicy so if anyone is sensitive, better try on the side first. I wasn't too fond of the thinness of the chicken and wished it had more of a bite to it - felt more of a flat texture and blended in with the rice. Just a personal preference. Prices cannot be beat - $11 for my bowl which had plenty leftover for a second lunch the next day (which, I thought tasted just as good, if not better!) My fiances gyro was quite messy as everything came out the other end, so he may opt with a bowl next time as well. read more

I went with her recommendation of the lamb and chicken rice bowl with most of the fixings . Scrumptious. Food was amazing the first time and just as good eating the leftovers 2 days later ! This location has been opened for 3 weeks and there arent ready, the rice was at the bottom of the barrel, and the boy had to go and get new rice. It should be ready to be switched out the moment it gets to the end, theres too many people in the dressing station too many hands on deck, the food wasnt even packed more soo serving like chiptole , the owner at the register was pushy our food wasnt eve done yet for him to give us the total i asked him when they opened i said your service here isnt the greatest i said east hartford just opened and worked very well much more nicer and attentive. Last night was my first visit to Shah's, and we will definitely be back for more! They are tucked, quietly away in Tri City Plaza, and took me awhile to notice it. Hopefully others are more observant than I am, or seek out reviews to find new spots, like this. The restaurant is bright, spacious, and has great music playing while you wait. The staff is also very friendly and will explain anything that you haven't tried before. We had the chicken gyro, which was packed with toppings and flavor. We also had the (freshly made) falafel bowl. You get to choose toppings and sauces for your bowl. I highly recommend the "white sauce", which is their version of tatziki. A word of warning....try the hot sauce before dumping it on your food. It is SPICY. The baklava was a nice way to finish our meal as well. I look forward to my next visit, and hopefully trying something new. read more

Been eyeing Shah's since we saw you guys posted on the Vernon and Manchester Scoop pages! Arrived around 1045pm for our own food break. My husband (the super tall guy) and I Dash, UberEats, and GrubHub at night. Restaurant is clean, modern, and well lit! Everyone was so friendly and welcoming! Both my husband and I each own our own business (our day jobs), so we notice this right away and it basically sets the initial tone for us as to whether or not we will come back. Food was A+! Honestly, we were only going to grab one platter to share and ended out getting 2 different ones. SO-GLAD-WE-DID! So delicious!!!!! Meat is well seasoned. Rice is fluffy! Sauces are great! Salad is fresh! Red sauce is truly SPICY! Portions are large- I couldn't finish the whole thing! This is seriously cravable food, and we're SO glad you're open late night! We will for SURE be regulars (and of course you'll be seeing us for food runs, too!). Oh, and I'm currently sitting in the parking lot writing this after finishing what I could of my meal!
