I enjoyed the food at their other location so it was an easy choice to stop by here when I was in the area. Same good quality so I am glad I stopped by. They have a decent seating area and it got really busy. The cashier is very welcoming and friendly and keeping up with cleaning the tables.

Recommended by Aaliyah at Hala Tree Coffee, we all sat in the car for 15 minutes waiting for it to open. You order and eat inside but pick up your food from a food truck set up outside. There's plenty of seating inside and they also have a patio. It was a Friday so we all ordered the Ono Fish Tacoz. Super tasty as they were topped with lettuce, pickled red inions, balsamic slaw, lime crema and a side of their mango chili sauce. We all enjoyed our meal especially the mango sauce that had just the right amount of flavor. Try it, you will like it! Thank you, Jen for the tacoz!!

We bookmarked Shaka Tacoz as our lunch stop on the drive to Waikoloa. I was super excited to try the Ono Tacos but I actually enjoyed the Birria style pork tacos better. The fish was a little dry. The Birra was flavorful and tender and definitely more filling. There's a few parking spots outside. Lots of seating inside. You order inside at the counter and pick up your order from the food truck outside.

Flavorful tacos, you get 3 per order, and fun side sauces where you can pick 2 per order. There is also an amazing ocean view if you sit outside in the back. We're vegetarian, so we ordered 5 chorizo tacos and one bean and rice taco to try, plus an order of chips and salsa. The salsa was good, we just thought it needed a little more salt and spice for our taste. Such an awesome lunch spot if you are out here visiting or touring Kona coffee farms. You order at the counter and then pick up your food from the food truck parked out front. We parked across the street off the highway, and the lady taking our order was super nice and patient. This ended up being one of our favorite meals of the trip.

Incredible tacos and you can mix and match different proteins! Every serving comes with 3 fabulous filled tacos with great ingredients. Interesting sauces are available like guava hot pepper (recommend!) and mango chile and chipotle, all super flavorful options. The steak and fish were my favorite proteins, the steak was not chewy at all and the fish was grilled perfectly. Loved all of the pickled toppings. Bonus, you can see the sunset from the patio! Lovely quick stop for dinner at a great price point.

This was a definite pit stop on our way from Hilo to Kona. The restaurant has parking out front and you order inside which has seating available but pick up the food at the outdoor area where they are made. We got the Ono fish tacos and birria style tacos. Both come in 3's. The ono unfortunately was a little dry but flavor was not bad. The birria tacos were flavorful, crunchy and filling. Def recommend the birria tacos. Next time I'm gonna get a quesadilla which also looked amazing. Great restaurant to check out if you're nearby or passing through.

Plentiful seating and enough parking right outside and across the street. If you come in the evening, you might get lucky and catch a beautiful sunset. Food was good! These tacos definitely run more of a local fusion than true Mexican tacos down the road. The carnitas tacos were basically kalua pig but still good! Make sure you order inside with the friendly workers and pick up your food outside at the food truck window!

I think this could be one of the best taco places on the big island, however on a scale of tacos in general, not the best. Needed cilantro and probably do more cheese.not a ton of flavor. We got birria tacos and then the original Shaka tacos with pork and chicken. It looked great but just need something more. Also 3 tacos is not filling enough for a meal. Maybe the fish tacos are where they stand out. Ambiance is nice, cool to eat with an ocean view and service was really nice. Cool atmosphere and food came out quickly. Limited parking. Nice stop for a light bite if in the area.

Stopped in for the venison street tacos, $20 for three, and absolutely worth it. The meat was tender, flavorful, and seasoned just right without being overpowered by the toppings. The place has both indoor and outdoor seating, and I'd recommend grabbing a spot outside if the weather's good bc you get a clear ocean view that adds a lot to the experience. The vibe is relaxed but well-kept, and prices are fair for the quality and the setting. A funny bonus: while enjoying my meal, I could see a pig being groomed down the hill! Not something you see every day, and it somehow fit perfectly with the laid-back, coastal charm of the place. Service was very fast. Overall, great food, decent value, and a memorable setting.

I wasn't impressed. The fish tacos were buried under sauces and slaw, so I could barely taste the fish--though the fish itself was well-seasoned and tasty. Prices felt high for what you get. Overall, very underwhelming flavors for a fish taco. The worst part was the outdoor seating: yes, the views are great, but the patio was crawling with lizards. It almost felt like a theme, and it was distracting enough to kill the appetite.

This was by far.... One of the best, if not the best fish tacos and burritos... that I have ever had The service, was amazing. She was sweet, answered everything that we needed to know. She took her time with us to and didn't rush us to pick. We just got here and can't wait to go back two or 3 times in the week that we are here The burrito. The burrito was by far one of the stupidest burritos that I have ever had. It was full, the sauce that came with it, which was the hottest one they have was phenomenal and probably one of the best sauces that I've had. I would bottle it if I could. Best tacos I've had in a long time! Great spot, easy ordering online and then you can take it outside to eat with a beautiful view of the ocean. Our whole family always enjoys our meals at Shaka Tacoz. We love the friendly service and all of the delicious options for tacos, bowls, and burritos. The ono is always a hit! But these days the Maui venison steals the show. Of course, the chicken is a mainstay, too. We are so fortunate to have this business located in south Kona. read more

These were some of the best tacos we've ever had. A bit pricy but definitely worth it! The mild mango chili sauce paired perfectly with the Ono Fish Tacoz! And Birria-Style Pork Tacoz also delicious! 11/10 we're definitely coming back! read more

Saw the good ratings, so made a visit in. To of us got the Ono tacos-crispy shell and one got the burrito. The burrito person liked his burrito. I was one who got the Ono tacos. I would give them a 3 star, so why my poor rating. The cashier was very impatient with us, wanting us to order quickly even though no one was behind us. The menu has a lot to look at. She never smiled ever. Then, I found the sauce I ordered to be too spicy for me - it was a 2 spice level. I went out to get the 1 spice level and the guy rudely said "I will give you this one, but if you want more I will charge you". I just spent 60.00 and you cannot give me 1 little tiny plastic thing of salsa. This business needs to cheer up and be nicer to your customer. read more

YUM!!!! I didn't get anyone's name, but the gal at the counter was very helpful and so friendly, and the guys making the food were great too! And the FOOOODDD!!!! It tasted very fresh and the portions were great! The chips were so light and crispy, the perfect compliment to their amazing salsas. Wish we lived here so we could be regulars! Short: Great food, amazing view, rude service. Long: We stopped by the taco place on our way to south of the island. They have few parking spots right outside (might be difficult to find a spot/ park during rush hours). Limited seating inside (booths, big benches). They have few chairs outside overlooking the sea. Which was beautiful but unfortunately it was raining when we stopped by. You place the order inside and pickup outside from the truck (a text message is sent when the food is ready). The tacos and bowl are really good! The meat tasted delicious. Prices are about the same as touristy spots on the island ($$). Service can improve. One of our orders (add on items) was missed when asked the person in truck was very rude and turned away. Not a big deal about missing a paid item but rude service isnt acceptable. Worst part is we tipped and thats what you get these days ....tip ahead and dont expect anything decent. Think twice before you tip here. A. You basically place order, pick up your own food, clean up after your done. B. Service isnt friendly. read more

Yes! This was such a great lunch spot before touring a Kona Coffee Farm in the area. The prices are great and the portions are ridiculously large. We shared a carne asada quesadilla and couldn't finish it. Go there for lunch if you can. You will be glad that you did. read more

OH. MY. GOODNESS!!!!!! Shakas Tacoz were amazing!!!!! Tried the ono, carne asada and the venison and I can't tell you which was my favorite! Make sure to try the mango chili sauce and the guava ginger! Also, the crispy cheese tortillas are a must!!! Definitely check this place out! read more

After a rough 2 hour hike, this was exactly what the doctor ordered. My husband got the birria tacos and I got the soy chorizo tacos. They were so good. The salsa was spicy which I loved and as salsa should be. The mango chili was sweet and then had the kick sneak in later. The salsa verde was also amazing and very flavorful. If our hotel was closed we would come here everyday, but we will be back on our next visit to Hawaii for sure. Very very happy with the tacos read more

We stopped here for lunch just prior to hiking the nearby Captain Cook Monument Trail. I have lived in San Diego for 50+ years and so I am accustomed to great Mexican food both locally and just south of the border in Tijuana, Rosarito, and Ensenada. So, for me to give a 5 star review means that this place is actually really freagin good! Not only was the food fantastic (I got a 3 taco plate, and the wife got a meat filled quesadilla)!....but also the bar-style seating on the rear deck provided nice ocean views. There is only one downside to this place, and that is the parking: when we arrived at 2pm on a Sunday all the parking spaces in front of their building were filled as were all the roadside spaces across the street. Fortunately, as it is pretty fast turnover we only had to wait 5 minutes or so for a space to open up; when we left around 245pm nobdy was parked across the street and half the spaces in front of the restaurant were available. read more

After visiting Hawaiian Coffee, we needed to balance our gut flora. Shaka Tacoz was just down the road. Wow, what a great experience! All ten of us had truly delicious meals. The portions were perfect and the sauces added a nice touch to already flavorful meat and fish. The lady at the counter was so nice, too. This place is just a small spot that's easily missed, so keep your eye on the roadside options, as they returning out to be gems. read more

The tacos I had from here are to date the best tacos I've had in my life! We tried them as my sister from Hil Hawaii said it was harder to get tacos on the Big Island. I hate rating things. The bar is set where if I rate something on Yelp it has to be life changing. And this restaurant was life-changing. Really, no notes. The ambiance is nice with a really pretty spot to watch the sunset. The service is cool with you going to a food truck to pick up your order fairly expediently. The food is great, with the fish tacos and quesadillas both delicious. But the real reason this place changed my life is the sauces. Try them all, if you dare. Mango chili is awe-inspiring. Guava ginger is godlike. Green verde knows exactly how to hit the right spot to hit. Some of the best fish tacos I've had!....and I'm Mexican. Fresh and great flavor, crunchy melted cheese on the tortilla is such a great touch! We also had the birria tacos that where also very good but Ono fish was by far our favorite. 100% recommend! read more

Great taco spot on Big Island Ono Tacos-$19- Ono was a tad dry. You can get it crispy or grilled. Taco shells were crisped up nicely, tons of fresh crunchy veggie toppings, great crema. Mango salsa was almost like a syrup, not my thing Carne Asada quesadillas-$18- amazing portion, tons of flavorful tender steak, crispy cheesy tortilla, loved all the different dipping sauces! Salsa Verde was the perfect amount of kick. Enough for 2 people to share to be honest, we were stuffed after each eating half. Overall would definitely return and get another quesadilla to try!! read more

I had bookmarked this place in advance of our trip, so when we were in the neighborhood and looking for something to eat, I knew this was the spot! We ordered inside and then headed out to the back deck which has an amazing view of the ocean. My husband and I both ordered the 3 taco plate for $12. You get to pick a hot sauce that's served on the side and I got the Mango Chile sauce which was delightful. Their fillings include: Pork Chicken Veggies Steak +$2 Fish +$2 We both really enjoyed our tacos. They're Americanized for sure...but they were still good. Our toddler shared a quesadilla with my mother-in-law. She wanted a steak one, and our son isn't a big meat eater, so this didn't go over well with him, but the quesadilla was huge! There was enough of that to take home for later. We enjoyed the view, even on a drizzly day, and our tacos, and the very friendly service! With Yelp check-in, I got a free drink of my choice! The staff recommended this awesome bottled drink, a tropical Guanabana can that was extra big and chock full of pulp! It was incredible! This was a great stop! read more

Well worth the 35 minute wait!! Fresh and flavorful with enough options to keep a picky family happy. Very affordable by Hawaiian standards and a wonderful staff. I will highly recommend this to friends after a snorkel trip. read more

Y'all, when I tell you these were thee BEST spicy pork tacos I have ever had in my life, I'm not lying! We stopped into Shaka Tacoz while vacationing in Kona because the word on the street was they had the best tacos on the island and you know what, I honestly agree. The only downside is I live in the mainland which means I'm going to be chasing THESE TACOS for the rest of my life! Lol, for real, I'm devastated it's so far from home. If you are in Kona, you need to go to Shaka Tacoz. Service was excellent and the staff was so friendly and welcoming. The view was great and the location casual, welcoming and laid back. A come as you are, all are welcome type venue. I cannot wait to come back to HI and have this tacos again!! read more

Came here after hiking Captain Cook trail and we were starving! We probably looked like lost survivors out in the jungle, so dusty and gross lol. We ordered the pork and veggie tacos, pork quesadilla and chips with salsa. Overall the food was great, the pork was tender and the plant based taco was stuffed and flavorful. The three taco plate deals are affordable and fair. The veggie taco was my favorite, had quinoa, corn and some beans I believe with some salsa. The portions are bigger and a good value in my opinion. Try and sit outside for a nice view and atmosphere. Parking is small but you'll be able to grab one. Try a few different salsas if you have family and friends with you. Enjoy friends! read more

One of the best eats we had. Service was quick. Average noise and has indoor dining. Order inside and they give you a buzzer to pick up your food outside. There were a variety of drinks including beer. Check in on Yelp and you get a free drink! Got the Guanabana which is like soursop drink and it was delicious. Tacos made to order. Hubby didn't care for the steak but the fish was delicious. Plentiful of flavors. Chicken quesadilla: gooey cheese with chicken pieces. My little one ate 2 big slices so you know it's good. You need to stop here and eat if you like Hawaiian burritos and bowls! The food is mouth watering I got the fish and it was grilled perfectly! It's a decent amount of food for the price. The parking is tight! You may have to drive past it and park near the other restaurant but the food is worth it! read more

Delicious cheesey taco that definitely hit the spot after hiking back up from Captain Cook snorkeling. Ordered the Ono Taco Special (3 fish tacos on crispy cheese tortilla) and Pork Quesadilla. This location is at a food truck + artisan marketplace, and the Shaka Tacoz truck is right at the entrance from the parking lot, so it's easy to find. There's open air seating beyond the truck, or benches under the trees better the food truck and the parking lot. Great place to enjoy some shade and some tacoz. Ultimately my whole family loved this place and thought I was a hero for finding this gem!

When I asked for extra hot sauce for the 3 tacos I ordered, I was met with a firm "No, only 1!" I clarified -- one per taco, since I bought three. Still "No!" After some negotiating, I talked her into two, but you'd have thought I was asking her to part with a kidney. I asked if they had sodas -- clearly hoping for a Diet Coke. Short answer, and definitely not sweet: "No." She eventually mumbled something about drinks next door. (The lady next door, by the way, was absolutely delightful.) Jalapeños? "No." Chiles toreados? "No." This is simply not the person who should be working front of house. When my order was finally ready, she tried to short me on that hard-won second hot sauce -- you know, the kidney. The food came out hot and fresh, and after that service experience, I was expecting it to be nothing short of amazing. Because really -- how do you treat customers like that if the food isn't blowing people away? Sadly, the hot sauce wasn't hot. At all. And the food overall was pretty good -- not excellent, not amazing, just pretty good. I did enjoy the yellow corn tortillas; soft, warm, and nicely done. The asada was chopped into chunks, which works, and both the asada and birria tacos were topped with onion and cilantro. During our first visit to Kona, my fiancé and I were pleasantly surprised to find Shaka Tacoz open late at night after a long day of touring the island. With limited food options in the area, we decided to give them a try and were not disappointed. We ordered several tacos with different meats, including carne asada, chicken, and pastor. The meats were incredibly juicy and packed with flavor, and the fresh garnishments on top made each bite a delight. As someone who comes from San Diego, I take Mexican food seriously, and I have to say that Shaka Tacoz was on par, if not better than some of the best Mexican food I've had back home.
