We chose this spot because of the pictures of food but unfortunately arrived on a day where they were out of over half of the food options on their menu. We were heading out on an adventure, and we were really craving smoothie bowls. We wanted to try something new, so we decided to go down the road a ways and try another place on a Google search. This led us here...except...they don't do smoothie bowls. Oops. No big deal! They do have smoothies, so we decided to try those out with a slice of cheesecake. I mean, because cheesecake. The employee here was super helpful and nice. Honestly, this location looks extremely popular for a late breakfast, and it makes sense to me: the menu was full of some yummy offerings. You felt like you were sitting in a very personal, old time diner where everyone would know each other. It was honestly very authentic, and I loved how we felt like we were at a friend's house. The smoothies were really good! Bright, vibrant flavors and very much needed after a busy morning. The cheesecake, well, it lasted about 2.5 seconds. Seriously sooo good and a nice little treat! The big islands coffee is a game changer on its own, but Menehune creates a menu of drinks that offer lots of flavor without the overwhelming sweetness. Food: their coffee tasted great! I forgot to ask if they can make it less sweet so I'd say to me their original flavoring is on the sweet side. However their coffee is probably by far the best one that goes super well with milk we ended up buying some packs of their grounded coffee and beans. What a cute little place! Almost missed it on the way to the volcano national park. Charming in-door and small outdoor seating area and friendly staff. We got a few items to-go, but would be back to sit a while and enjoy the place on our next visit. My mom got a latte and banana muffin and I got a small side of potatoes and sausage. Drink came out hot and fast and was probably the best coffee we had on the island, and that's saying something as coffee is everywhere, and locally-grown. Prices are great as I believe the coffee was around 5 and breakfast about 10. This was a great find for breakfast and coffee while heading south on the island. They have a wide offering of breakfast, lunch and bakery items, as well as many delicious lattes, drinks and smoothies to choose from. I opted for the drip coffee and kalua pork breakfast burrito while dining in and the big island latte iced to finish on the drive. The breakfast burrito was very yummy and large, the pork was very flavorful. It was so filling I had to take half to go. I was very happy with the big island latte, it wasn't too sweet but had great flavors and was a nice treat. They treat you like family, even when they're slammed everyone's working hard and you can tell they care a lot for their customers. A rare thing nowadays. Felt like a lot of the food was from Costco instead of fresh. Watered down mango smoothie with no taste of coconut milk and definitely not 'fresh' mango as advertised. Avocado spread on the toast was not fresh either seemed like it was a spread out of a package. And waffles super bland. Stopped by this place for breakfast before driving to Hilo, and it honestly was just okay. I was expecting more from the food, but it was pretty mid. There isn't much parking, and it's a small area. The Kalua pork omelette was good, and the so tropical smoothie was good as well, but I feel like you could find many other smoothies in HI that would beat the ones here. The flavor is very subtle, almost nonexistent, especially with the mango smoothie, which honestly tasted like water. This was disappointing because we didn't taste mango in this smoothie at all. Also, the loco moco was something I would not order again because I did not find the onion rings on the top to taste good, and the patty was a little tough. A great place for a quick stop to go or a sit down meal with a beautiful view! We made a quick stop on our travels passing by, parking was a bit tight but we were able to get a spot. We had the Hawaiian style sandwich, which had pulled pork and a side of fries. The sandwich and fries were nicely seasoned and delicious! They also had pastries and 100% Kona coffee for sale. We are a family of 8, asked for a table to dine in. The wait staff told us that they couldn't seat us and we should order our food to go! No other suggestions were offered and didn't seem interested or motivated to find a way to seat us. We asked if we could split tables and they seemed to agree to that, but I have never experienced poor customer service like that. Being that we have a larger party than average, they would rather not serve us at all, and want us to take food to go! What a disappointing first impression. In an attempt to make light of this situation we decide to stay, and after all the seating/table arrangements were made, I ordered the Kalua Pork Plate. The amount of pork they serve you is so little! I could probably measure it to 1/4 cup of loose packed shredded pork, if that. The plate consists of mostly white rice, and a small side of your choice plus the small amount of pork. It really should be called plain rice plate--with modest amount of pork. $16.95 for mostly rice?? You must be joking. Also, the citrus slaw (my choice of side) was nothing special--there's nothing citrus about it. It tastes like it was dressed in sugar water. The only saving grace was their Honu specialty lattes, which was pretty good. I don't plan on ever coming back. read more

I ended up coming here after trying to go to Da Coffee Shack and encountering the nightmare parking situation there. The parking here is much better, go to the lot in the back. It is flat and there is plenty of room to turn around, unlike the lot at DCS! The food menu here is smaller. I got the breakfast sandwich w/ house smoked kalua pork. You get a lot of meat! You can also choose from 4 different meats. It's served on a croissant, which was fine, supermarket quality. My BF got the breakfast burrito w/ Portuguese sausage. It was not huge, but a good size for breakfast. It was tasty, with egg, potato, cheese, and salsa. I really liked their coffee, it is quite smooth and not very acidic. read more

Almost missed writing a review. This is the only place in all of Big Island that lets me check in and get 10% off. Enjoyed eating here and feel the island vibe. Had a wonderful fish and chips because the lady pointed out their boat and that the Ono was caught that morning. That really sold me. The fresh catch of the day. I didn't know the word "On" till coming here. It's like a baby learning her first word. It's totally delicious. The coconut coffee was devine. Service was super friendly. They sell other baked goods. Terrible service and food and very overpriced! Ordered coffee and water. We got coffee no water after 10 minutes. We drank the coffee and asked for more. We waited another 10-15 minutes, I went back up to register and asked for coffee AGAIN. Then she Finally brought it. Ordered a Portuguese sausage omelet. The omelet was watered down. Had a funny tasting sauce on it and the sausage was not very good either. Definitely not fresh. I would never eat here again. I ate 2 maybe 3 bites.
