I haven't been to Shake Shack in years. We decided to stop by the Chapel Hill location for a burger. I ordered the Single Shackburger and a Vanilla & Chocolate Shake at a self-service kiosk. After placing my order, I found a booth. The table was not clean upon inspection. I found some cleaning wipes and took a few moments to clean the table before sitting down. Our food arrived in less than 10 minutes. Everything was hot and fresh. The shake was the perfect contrast in temperature. This is my 2nd visit in Shake Shack - Chapel Hill this year, and my first time ordering using the mobile app for take out. I ordered the Black Truffle Burger again but this time, with double patties & cheery peppers. I'm not interested in Shake Shack's other burgers - they just seem ordinary to me. The Black Truffle Burger is the real deal and the #1 reason I will keep returning to Shake Shack. The #2 reason is the Thai Iced Tea Shake, which is now my new favorite milkshake. The Thai tea flavor combined with the creaminess of milkshake and whip cream is just super delicious, and the amount is just right. I also ordered the Black Truffle Crinkle fries. Personally, I'm not a big fan of crinkle-cut fries, but the dust of parmesan cheese and the yummy truffle sauce make these fries extra special. This Shake Shack has a nice outdoor area, and it looks pretty casual to eat there. It was a busy Saturday lunch time but I was aboe to find parking. The only issue I had this time was the attitude of the employee who brought me my order when I came to pick it up. It seemed that she wasn't happy to serve. You can tell that Chick Fil'A still has superior customer service. Other than that, I thought the mobile app was easy to use, and the order was available to pick up within 10 min. Very good return experience at Shake Shack. We had tried it a few months ago and returned to see different seasonal shakes on the menu. My teen had a s'mores shake and I had a strawberry one. We also had burgers, fries and grilled cheese. I appreciate the gluten free bun option! There is a condiment bar where you can also get cups of water. Our only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is the seasoning on the spicy fries could be spread through the fries a lot more (see photo), but overall nice and clean restaurant and good food. A manager (?) who works there had given us shake recommendations in the past and this time was there walking to tables to be sure customers had everything they needed. Also, we found the service at this location to be particularly good compared to other Shake Shack locations. The staff that visited our table, from the manager on down, were friendly, attentive, and "went above and beyond" (for example, offering drink refills and trash takeaway; Chick-fil-A-level service). At the time of writing this review, it's the only Shake Shack location in either Chapel Hill or Durham. In the Triangle, there are also locations in Raleigh and Cary. This location replaced Zoes Kitchen in the Eastgate Crossing shopping center, sandwiched between E Franklin St and Fordham Blvd (15-501). It's in a freestanding building with a covered outdoor patio and plenty of parking. We showed up on a Thursday around 7pm and business was a little slow. There was a steady stream of customers for the duration of our visit, but the dining room stayed mostly empty and no one ever had to wait to use a kiosk. Like other Shake Shacks, ordering here is done through self-serve kiosks with touchscreens. You don't place your order with a human. This location has four kiosks. The company seems to have gotten everything right, from how the beef patties are cooked to the proportion of ingredients, seasonings/sauces, and textures. ShackSauce is another one of those proprietary sauces like ZaxSauce, Big Mac Sauce, etc. To me, it tastes like those other "special sauces" in that it's mayo-based and has a combination of salty, sweet, sour, and a little bit of spice. It's good. Our burgers were freshly prepared (made to order) and supremely satisfying. In general, the only bad things about Shake Shack burgers are they're heavy and can't possibly be good for your health (but that's why they taste so good). My wife loves Shake Shack's crispy crinkle-cut fries. She gets addicted to them. I loved the Strawberry Frosted Donut Shake. It really did taste like I was drinking a strawberry-frosted donut with milk and ice cream through a straw. Dangerous. My meal costs more than $20, so I have high expectations. I ordered the cheese fries, the truffle burger, and a shake. It took about 20-25 minutes from the time I placed my order to when I received it. They took so long that I had to go check to make sure my order had been processed. When I got my food, the burger was tiny and cold. The burger looked nothing like the one in the advertisements. They pretty much scooped a huge scoop of cold cheese on top of the fries. This restaurant is SO clean and SO friendly. All of the workers are so nice and attentive. They walk around to each table and ask if everything was satisfactory and if they can grab you anything from the walk up condiment station. I recently visited Shake Shack, and I must say, it was a major disappointment. From the moment I stepped in, the energy was flat, and the service reflected that. The restaurant was far from "shaking"--more like dragging. My burger was barely warm, the fries were soggy, and everything tasted like it had been sitting out for a while. For a place that is known for fresh and flavorful food, this was seriously underwhelming. The atmosphere was dull, and even the milkshake lacked its usual creamy richness. The worst part was the slow and unresponsive service. Despite being a fast-casual restaurant, my order took almost 30 minutes, and when it finally arrived, the presentation was sloppy. No one seemed to care about the quality of the food or the customer experience. For the prices they charge, I expected much better. Overall, it was a waste of time and money. Usually I let SS keep all of my stars. Tonight they lose one but blame is probably somewhere in the middle ;-) I ordered late and picked up late. Since SS nicely seals all bags I didn't wanted to be "that guy" to inspect everything. It was quite busy when we went on Friday night. It's a bit small inside so we had to stand to wait. There are kiosks where you can order from as well as the counter. We ordered from the kiosk and it texted me when it was ready which is a nice touch. The food is really good but quite expensive when compared to Freddy's or Steak & Shake. The burger is nothing to write home about, but we really loved the fries and shakes. Once they have online ordering setup it will really help with crowd control. If you're going at a normal meal time I recommend ordering ahead and taking it to go unless you want to potentially wait on a table to open up. read more

I ate at one of he first Shake Shacks on the upper West Side in NYC in about 2006. I thought it was one of the best cheeseburger that I have ever tasted. Hamburgers are something I know about, since my father owed the locally famous Dairy Dip in Alabama. Shake Shack's burger was as good as his. So, I went to the new Shake Shack in Chapel Hill today with great expectations. I was disappointed with the quality of the food and the cost. My burger was over cooked (charred) but was served cold. I sent it back for another, which was much better but still not the same quality of beef that I recall at the NY location. Plus, the cost was $ 32 for 2 cheeseburgers, fries, and milkshakes~2.5 times McDonalds. I think I prefer 5 guys for my upscale burger, or maybe it's time to eat more healthy and skip burgers all together. This was my first time trying Shake Shack in the newly opened Chapel Hill location. I came on a Tuesday night and it was relatively busy but the wait was not too long. I was able to order on the kiosk and then take a number to whatever table I wanted to be seated at. I had tried the ShackBurger before, but I had heard many great things about the ShroomBurger so I wanted to try this out this time. WOW! What a game changer. I was already impressed with the ShackBurger, but the ShroomBurger was quite delicious. For a mushroom, it was quite juicy after my first bite. Don't expect it to taste like a meat burger, it's not "impossible meat." However, it is an insanely delicious vegetarian option. The fries were also crinkle and delicious. Lastly the chocolate shake was super tasty, not too thick or runny. Only reason I am not giving 5 star is because it is quite expensive for a fast casual restaurant. The ShackBurger is more understandable at $6.49, but the ShroomBurger was $8.59 which felt steep. I'd still get it again though haha read more

Veggie burgers are an important part of my life, so I'm always eager to find my fix, but I've never been a fan of portobello mushrooms as the patty because they're always kind of slippery and slimy but they've managed to take away some of this here with the crispy coating and fried in some flavor into these. The result: a very tasty burger that is a nice alternative to fake meat, which I hate and a super dense grain and bean burger. I would definitely get again. The I got the truffle Parmesan fries and I liked that you could order them unsalted. Unfortunately the fries were soggy, cold and no hint of Parmesan or truffle. Would not order again. I ordered a cookies and cream milk shake which was delicious. I didn't realize they used custard but I figured it out after a few sips as it was very creamy and rich. What really puts a brake on the entire experience is the cost. $25 for a fast food experience is highway robbery. I ordered a cheeseburger and fries. For me, it was a lot of food and it was great! I rarely eat a lot of meat and I don't often eat fries. But I knew that indulging would probably be OK. I would have been disappointed if it was merely greasy but it was really great. I went back maybe six months later when it was nearly empty and ordered the same thing and again it was great. Not noisy. The food was ready quickly. After eating about half, I got takeout. The staff were very nice just like the first time I was there. The new location in Chapel Hill really lives up to the hype! I went with a big group and we all truly enjoyed our food. Shake Shack's Chicken Shack and Cheesy Fries are incredible. The ShackBurger was good, mainly because of their signature Shack sauce. The Tiramisu Shake is addicting and one of the biggest reasons I will have to come back (along with the Cheesy Fries). We also got their Chicken Bites, but did not like them as much as they were a bit crumby (quite literally the breaded covering was coming apart like crumbs). I walked in after work to get some food and the tables were dirty, so not a good first impression. I tried to get help at the front register with no luck so I tried to use the self service registers. Somehow at shake shack I couldn't order a shake on the self serve register. I went back to the front register to try and order one and waited until a lady, who appeared to be the manager told a worker in the dining room to take my order. I could barely understand what this man was saying, it sounded like a mumble, but he still wouldn't let me order a shake. I was still hungry so I just got some of the nuggets and when they got to my table the breading just fell off. It was a very bad experience and I honestly don't intend to return to give them a second chance for a while.
