The food and shakes are pretty good but a bit overrated. By that I mean it's not worth the huge line you usually have to wait on. If you can catch it at a time when the line is 10 minutes or less, go for it. Otherwise I'd say to go to next door Blue Smoke or one of stadium clubs if you have access. They have a limited menu compared to the actual locations which is fine. The food is always cooked to perfection and never leave unsatisfied. Definitely is pricey but it's part of our routine whenever we come to watch a game. The Shake Shack is pretty good, I'm from the west coast and know all about the ongoing battle between In-N-Out and Shake Shack. The lines are around the same and the food is similar. I loved mostly what I had minus two things: the price and salt. The price was sky-high and I just prayed that the prices weren't the same at the original stand. I got through the line surprisingly quick. I got the Shack Burger and a Black & White Shake. I was hoping to try the fries, but no such luck with the prices. The food was really fresh when I received it and I was happy about that. I tried my burger and it was really salty. I wasn't mad, because it was still pretty delicious, but the salt content almost overshadowed the burgers other great qualities. I would love to try it again if that tells you anything. As for the Black & White Shake, I was in love with that. It was amazing. read more

While the burger was a little smaller than what I had expected, it is worth the wait, even if the wait is longer than I'd care for. I love shake shack and rarely pass up an opportunity for a SS burger. If you head to the line as soon as you get to Citi you usually just end up missing the first inning. They also have a huge big screen so you can watch the game while waiting. Deducting one star because the menu is more limited. When expectations are sky-high, it is always difficult to deliver, and that is likely the case here. I braved the approximate 1 hour line to get a taste of the hype. I LOVE shake shack but I wasn't completely satisfied when I came here 2 weeks ago to a Mets game. The line was horrendously long (which I expected). The thing that I didn't understand was why did it take so long? They had an abbreviated version of the menu so there were less choices so the line should have moved a lot quicker. As I got closer to the front of the line, I can see a lot of burgers waiting to be picked up but it was just slow. The burger was still tasty but it was missing the "wow" factor but I'm not sure why. BURGER TASTE = 5 WAIT ON LINE = 1 AVERAGE = 3 The burger is very tasty, I have had several of these in a few locations but the line here (if you are not here before the 1st inning) just sucks really bad. So don't come hungry and anxious. However, if you need a shake shack fix, then enjoy, the burger is slamming. Keep in mind that the Jumbotron in front of the place will allow you to see the game. So for those cry babies that complained about missing the game you just need to open your eyes and look around. Worst Shake Shack I've ever been to (out of 6). Burgers were burnt to a crisp and had no fat on them. Fries were cold. Vanilla shake had way too much sugar in it. I waited on the line which I understand but when I finally got my order in they messed it up so bad.....I asked for cheese fries....just got fries...asked for no tomato...got tomatoes...didn't even ask for the cheese on my fries because I just wanted to get back to watch THOR pitch a gem...burger was good once I took tomatoes off. Two words: incredibly overrated. My wife and I went to the one at Citi Field and we both agreed that our food was borderline inedible. Our burgers tasted of nothing but salt - we were able to eat them, but it wasn't particularly pleasant. It's not that they were way too salty, just that there wasn't any flavor *but* salt. I can easily make a better burger from the cheapest meat available on my backyard charcoal grill - a burger that tastes like actual meat. Heck, you can get a better burger than this at most random New York diners. The burgers at Shake Shack are tiny too, about half the size you'd get at a diner, for twice the price. The fries were so salty we had to throw them away. That was unfortunate, because the texture was nice - light, crispy. But we could not eat them, because they were overwhelmingly salty. The shake I got was good, but really not worth $7.50 for what amounts to a child size. You can also get a good shake at any New York diner, and while I understand that Shake Shack's are made from frozen custard, once you blend it up with milk it's hard to really tell the difference. Mine was not particularly thicker than any you'd find anywhere else, made from decent but otherwise regular ice cream. Get a triple-thick shake at Friendly's and I doubt you'll be able to pick out which is which in a double blind test. But the Friendly's version will cost $4 less and you'll get about four times the amount. If I ever go again (which I doubt), I will try the regular frozen custard and see if that's worth it. Maybe we just went on a bad day, but that's still a major strike against Shake Shack for inconsistency. If a joint's going to ask you to pay $34.50 for a couple of sliders, one order of fries, a child size shake and a soda, it had damn well better deliver consistently good food. Shake Shack does not. My impression is that Shake Shack is trying to be a "gourmet" and/or trendy version of a hamburger stand, but what they're actually doing is churning out tiny portions of old standards that just don't taste as good as the originals and cost a lot more. Save your money and time and go to Blue Smoke right next door. read more

It is nice to have access to good food at stadium but if you cannot handle it operationally it makes for bad experience. Each section of their lines has 4 order stations but they are moving people through at an overall rate of 1 person every 2 minutes... In fact, it's really slow food, because everyone seems to think it's the most delicious burger in the world. Nothing wrong with my burger. You can tell they are under strict enforcement to provide something that doesn't seem like you got it from a concession stand, but a real restaurant or backyard BBQ. We waited on line for about 15 minutes, but i heard people in passing say they never saw a iine so short. Must have been the lightning and thunderstorms that passed earlier that kept the crowds away. I was happy with my burger. it was perfect. The price was reasonable for what citi field charges. So why three stars? Well, I wont want to wait on this line every time I want a burger. why cant all the concession stands serve a quality burger like this? I think they need to stop pretending they are above average just because Aramark or whomever the hell is making a killing off of us serving us crap on top of it, doesn't mean we should have to get down on our knees and praise the gods of the shack. If you've seen my other reviews, you know I LOVE Shake Shack. So when I came to Citi Field for a game, I knew exactly what I was getting. This SS however, is a bit of a rip off. SS is pretty pricey to begin with and of course this one, being at a stadium is even more expensive. My ticket to the game was less than my dinner! Their menu is also smaller (and I'm pretty sure they don't have the shroom burger so if you're veggie, you're screwed). I love this place. I can't speak to the other reviewers' experiences, but I recently went to a Phillies-Mets game. I hold the center field dining area in such high regard. Of the 20 MLB ballparks to which I've been, this may be my favorite dining area, with Shake Shack, Blue Smoke, and El Verano Taqueria. And because I equally dislike the Mets and Phillies (I'm a Yankees fan), I actually went to Citi Field to eat at Shake Shack and El Verano Taqueria and leave after the top of the 1st inning so I could catch the Women's World Cup game! (I don't regret that decision at all!) The burgers are always perfect; this time was no exception. I've read the other reviews; hopefully the off experiences were exceptions rather than the rule. That's why I wanted to post this. In my mind, I don't see the drop off in quality. My burger was as good as the ones I've had at the Madison Square Park location. This is always my first choice in the center field dining area at Citi Field. And since Blue Smoke and El Verano Taqueria are always excellent and right there, that says something. read more

This is a must have if you are at Citi Field. These burgers are about as good as you'll get for fast food. However it's not what I would typical fast food because every burger is made to order. Plus their patties seem to be formed by hand and not from pre frozen package. Throw in some special seasoning and you're in for a treat. Add an order of fries to your burger from heaven and you're all set. I would recommend to split an order of fries with someone as the orders are rather large. It is true that most of the time you have to wait in line for at least 2 innings sometimes 3-4 but its worth it in the end. My buddy and I got to Citi Field around 45 minutes before first pitch and there was virtually no line , but as soon as we had placed our order the line filled up quickly. I view myself as a burger expert and as far as over the counter food is considered these as the best burgers I've tried. read more

An average tasting small cheeseburger for $7. Horrendous drowned in salt cold fries and a shake that tasted like a shake from any fast food joint. Typical overpriced hype. I am not one to complain about food, especially in a fast food environment like this one, but I was so grossed out by my meal I had to leave a review. I ordered a portabella burger with fries, while my boyfriend got a "striker cone" ice cream (I may be off on the name). The fries were fine, however while ordering the "burger" I assumed it would be a portabella mushroom with cheese on top. However when I got my order I realized it was a thin SLICE of mushroom deep fried with cheese on the inside. The majority of the burger was a fried substance, which was extremely unappetizing. We thought the ice cream would be a mixture of brownie truffle, ice cream, sprinkles and cone pieces by the description on the menu, but when the ice cream came out we learned it was mostly vanilla ice cream with a few brownie truffle pieces, cone pieces and minuscule sprinkles. Long story short, we will NOT be returning to shake shack in citi field ever again, save your money. read more
