Menu has changed a bit since and now has this stack burger (shroom and cheese burger in one) A huge. improvement from previous visit was the meat, it's better and juicier, and the shroom is now filled with cheese. Solidly ok. I never go here when I'm flying out of JFK, because the line is always so long and I'm always so late (the sushi place across the way is not bad in these moments), but I tragically took a cross-country red-eye and debarked in Terminal 4 of JFK, freezing cold, and what do I see but the neon green of Shake Shack, the line only two people deep. It felt like a mirage, almost, as I didn't even know Shake Shack had breakfast, but it appears that they have a pretty decent breakfast menu (further research reveals that this location is one of the few serving breakfast?? A gem!!) I didn't want to feel that crappy about eating Shake Shack at 6 in the morning, so I got the Egg White Light, which is egg whites, cheddar, arugula, and Shake breakfast sauce on a burger bun. I added tomato. My sandwich came out pretty fast and it was quite beautiful, with the vibrant red tomato complementing the verdant arugula. I felt like arugula was such an elevated touch that I was not expecting from Shake Shack, although the soft burger bun was definitely grounding and humbling. The sandwich was solidly not bad. I finished it in maybe 5 minutes, which was more from being surprisingly famished after my flight than from it being scrumptious. I'm glad I added the tomato. Of all the breakfast options in the airport, the Egg White Light from Shake Shack was definitely a little different from your run of the mill Dunkin breakfast sandwiches, and I'm glad I tried it, especially after finding out the breakfast menu is rare to most Shake Shack locations. Came here after security, made it through the line quickly, ordered from the bank of automated kiosks, and only then noticed there were dozens of people were waiting for their food ahead of me. My order was not fulfilled until 45 minutes after I placed it, and I had to rush eating it to make my flight. Automated kiosks help cut costs, but unlike a human worker, they don't have any way to slow the order queue when the kitchen is getting backed up. This can easily lead to a situation where orders come in much faster than they can be fulfilled, overwhelming the kitchen. It appears this is what happened on my visit. Even though I like Shake Shack, I wouldn't advise coming to this location unless you have at least an hour before your flight leaves the gate; or unless management switch back to cashiers, who have some ability to slow the order line and help signal customers towards less-busy options. read more

There are really limited food options in this terminal, so Shake Shack is always busy. You can order ahead via mobile app, at the kiosk or with a cashier (if the first two fail you). Both are inside Terminal 4 after clearing security; one near Gate B23 and the other is near Gate B37. B23 is open every day from 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM and B37 is open from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM. B37 has a dining area with power outlets, while B23 does not. The overall decor and theme is consistent with their restaurants outside the airport. They have their signature wood tables as well, all made using recycled materials from former bowling alleys. On the menu you will find breakfast sandwiches, hot dogs, burgers, shakes, drinks, and more. Comparing the prices to the average Shake Shack in Queens, expect to pay around 20% extra here. There was a long line to order and use the kiosk, mobile ordering seemed a little faster. There is a sign nearby with a QR code that you scan with your phone and it'll direct you to a website. My friend had the SmokeShack, which is my go-to. It's a cheeseburger with chopped peppers, bacon, and angus beef. They thought it was fine, the potato bun was soft and the patty was juicy. It was not spicy at all; normally it should have a little more kick to it. The accompanying crinkle cut fries could've used more salt but was otherwise crispy. I decided to get a "lighter" lunch at Bento Sushi nearby, so I just got the original Shack-made lemonade. It was sweet and natural tasting. We caught a 7 am flight back to LA after visiting NYC. Happy to see Shake Shack already open for breakfast near Gate B23 so early in the morning. It was a delightful surprise to note that we got two sausage egg cheese with a side of tasty tater tots for the same price we paid for one mediocre breakfast sandwich at the LAX Delta terminal, Our order was filled quickly. A small outpost of the classic restaurant located at the JFK airport -- there are lots of tables and outlets to charge your phone and fuel up before getting on your next flight. I got the Shroom Burger which was SO good -- I feel like I'm generally so-so about portobello mushroom burgers since they're not that flavorful but this one was filled with cheesy goodness. The fries here are also super tasty! Fair warning that the food takes forever to get ready. It was fairly busy when we stopped by for dinner, and it took easily upwards of ~30 minutes for our takeout box to arrive. I wouldn't go here if you're in a rush and need a quick bite but this would make more sense if you have a longer layover. read more

I ordered the shack stack which is a burger topped with a mushroom stuffed with cheese and deep fried... If you think that sounds delicious, it is. It was incredible and I've actually thought about this burger several times since I've gotten it. I actually can't wait to get back to the airport and get it again! We had dinner last night at the Shake Shack on Federal Hwy in Fort Lauderdale. There was nobody at the order counter, three rather corpulent female employees were back at the serving bar, looking at one of their phones. I asked one to help us, and she came and pointed toward the flat screen order console "You gotta order here" and then walked back to her co-workers! An older couple was there and we had to help them order their dinner, the employees couldn't be bothered.... The hamburger was good but not very large. The fries however were soggy and barely cooked. This is probably the most dystopian Shake Shack I have been to... even by airport food standards. It looked well-staffed on the evening of Aug 21st, but I ended up waiting at least 20 mins for my burger, as the workers in charge of packing the food seemed to walk confusedly in circles around the prep area instead of packing all the burgers that were piling up in the window. (The guy literally just needed to grab 1 burger that was sitting there and hand it to me. I just wanted to go in there and help them pack the food.) When they got around to it, they packed the food complacently at ground-breaking sloth-like speed while at least 2 dozen customers stood waiting, fossilized with disbelief. By the time I finally got my burger, the cheese had congealed into a solid mass and the burger was cold, gray, and dry... well on its way towards becoming astronaut food. I nearly missed my flight. To anyone considering ordering from here, make sure you have more than a half hour to spare before your boarding time, and maybe even a microwave handy to reheat your cold food when you finally receive it. They have a dining area intended only for patrons actively eating however we saw many people who were not patrons taking up seating which resulted in us having to stalk the dining area. I had to hold a table while Chris ordered. The service was friendly. Food was hot and fresh and delicious! It was ready within seven minutes. The dining area was clean and employees were doing a good job cleaning. We wish they would enforce the dining area for patrons only. We eat at Shake shack all the time. I own the stock. The JFK location is just awful. Not the food - the service. The woman filling the bags filled waited till all the bags here were full of burgers before doing anything else. Then she moved them to the fries station - even the ones that didn't get fries. Filled the ones with fries and THEN served them all. I ordered at 10:45 and got my order at 11:05. Who's buying from Shake shack JFK? People CATCHING PLANES!! I asked her for her name. She wouldn't give it to me. I asked for the manger. A guy said he was but wouldn't give me his name either and their badges are all turned to the back.
