First, I like the Shake Shack chain, but I had a bad experience at the Shake Shack in JFK International Airport Terminal 4. Latesha was the cashier and couldn't get my order right. I simply ordered a breakfast sandwich without cheese; I was not asking to change the United States Constitution. During my 5 attempts to explain my order Latesha played with her hair through her hair net and placed her hand in her bra (Searching for boob money or maybe an itch?). Meanwhile the manager was dumping buckets of soapy water on the dinning floor causing a very unsafe condition. I have to say that I'm kinda disappointed with my shake shack at the airport. I'm not usually one to complain about airport food, but Shake Shack has always had a reputation, at least in my mind, for having consistency in food and service. That wasn't the case here unfortunately. I ordered a Shroom burger and some fries before my flight. I don't get bothered to much about unhappy people taking my order at any casual dining experience because frankly, it's to be expected to some degree. But the burgers was warm to room temp and the cheese was not oozing out of the shroom. The fries were also way overdone and it basically tasted like a below average sandwich. UPDATE: Less than 12 hours after eating here, I started with symptoms of food poisoning (I'll spare you the details) and I've spent the entire weekend sick as a dog with food poisoning. This Shake Shack is located in the JFK Airport and is perfect for getting your burger/shake fix. I first tried *Shake Shack* about three years ago in New York and enjoyed it and forgot about how good it is! Upon going to this one I noticed a few things: 1. They were all out of shakes because the machine was broken, but the supervisor was great at announcing it to all in line with good service that they are waiting on it to get fixed. 2. Cute swag, they were selling a onesie that says : "If crying, insert burger" with a burger pacifier picture. 2. Although there was a little wait in line, upon paying the food came out in under 10 minutes so it felt quick which shows their efficiency and quickness. 3. A very good burger I'm in an airport, so I would likely be hard pressed to find any food place where you can get a good value. That doesn't make it ok, just expected. This was my first visit to any Shake Shack, and I was standing in line, in anxious anticipation. It was a pretty long line and took several minutes to reach the order taker. By then I had decided on their Single ShackBurger and a Black & White Shake. I even did some research on what a Black & White Shake should be, the convenience of technology cannot be overstated. I took a pass on their Crinkle cut fries, not my favorite style and I appreciated they listed that so prominently that I knew what they offered before I ordered. They take your order and give you a buzzer, which went off a few minutes later. Some confusion with my order, I got my shake but still had to wait a couple more minutes for the burger, uncertain if the burger was coming or not . Another customer was also messing up, trying to take an order that wasn't his, so things were not going smoothly during the short time I was there. As for my food, I really liked the burger. Too small for the cost, but it was very tasty. The edges of the patty has that little crispness and they added a good ShackSauce. The B&W shake didn't impress me at all. For 6 bucks it was a small cup. I expected a rich vanilla flavor enhanced with the flavor of chocolate syrup. I got the single Shack Burger with lettuce, tomato and the Shake Shack sauce with an order of cheese fries and damn that burger are the things dreams are made of. Definitely worth it. The fries though, MEH..was not a fan of that cheese/queso sauce and I would skip the calories next time. The fries themselves are crispy and decent, but the cheese sauce to go with it wasn't worth the upcharge. It's also served on the side and while creamy and tasty like you'd imagine fatty cheese to be, it was not as sharp as I'd prefer it to be and I quickly regretted ordering them, especially after having the calorie debate in my mind for a good 10 minutes while in line. Oh and let's speak of the line. IT MOVED SLOW! People have flights to catch! The folks working the register must have had no manager present because they were chatting away and not moving the line efficiently at all. Their menu hasn't taken much of a hit; shakes, breakfast sammies, crinkle cut fries, and the nine are all available. The essence is not lost. No surprise, there is a slight uptick on the prices. Shake Shack is already somewhat pricey as it is, so this is a slight knock. Normally service is at most Shake Shacks is conducted with a smile and super efficient. I've waited here longer than most other locations (short staffed perhaps?) and sometimes I'm antsy due to ordering while boarding the flight. (#1) They could always use more seating and could probably use someone to help folks navigate the stanchions properly. Big ups on the power outlets, though they tend to get swallowed up quickly during prime hours. I've been waiting to try Shake Shack's breakfast menu for a long time and finally had the opportunity to. I ordered the egg bacon cheese breakfast sandwich with double egg. I have always loved the Martin's potato rolls for their burgers so I loved that they used it for their breakfast sandwich. The bun was soft and fresh. The bacon was crispy and the eggs were cooked well. The sandwich as a whole was good, nothing special. It could use some avocado or some spicy mayo. The employee who took our order was friendly. This location was out of multiple items such as chicken, which I found odd. I was looking forward to trying their fresh squeezed orange juice, but it was not on their menu. I was also going to get a decaf coffee, but they did not have decaf. This was a little disappointing. As expected, the airport prices are more expensive. I paid $8 for the bacon egg and cheese sandwich with double egg. That is more than the burgers at a normal Shake Shack location. The ordering process went smoothly and I was handed a pager with my receipt. So why do people feel the need to crowd the counter when they're going to be told when their food is ready for pickup? It took a few minutes and then my box of burger was ready. It didn't quite look like it did on the board, but it was still well assembled. What have we New Yorkers done to deserve being blessed with a Shake Shack inside of an airport terminal? Seriously. Just when I thought I'd be doomed to miserable airplane food, a shining light came down and led the way to this beautiful holy ground. They have most of the menu offerings you'd find in a regular Shake Shack, except the service is MUCH faster. The service is spot on too. I ordered a chicken sammy and instead was given a burger. Fear not. I told the cashier and she apologized and told me to keep the burger AND they whipped up the right sammy for me in seconds. Fast forward to 10 minutes later when I was awkwardly trying to give away my burger to strangers in Terminal 1... getting the weirdest stranger-danger looks before getting laughed at (or laughed with? As Chipotle struggles with an e.Coli outbreak that caused 34 store closures, the big news today in the financial markets was how Shake Shack was beating revenue estimates and acting more like a tech stock. Say what? It's a burger for Pete's sake. I remember my first one back in 2007 at their original location in Madison Square Park where the queue was outrageous. But it was worth it despite its small size because the quality of the beef was so good due to Danny Meyer's imprint. It has since exploded into an international chain though sadly not California at least as of this date. When I was on my way home from a quickie weekend in New York, I found myself in Delta's Terminal 4 at JFK. Lo and behold, there was a Shake Shack right off the central hub area, and sure enough, there was a constant line in motion. Still, I had an hour to kill, so I decided to grab a $5.19 Single ShackBurger with a slice of melted American cheese, lettuce, tomato and the ShackSauce (photo: http://bit.ly/1Pe9kMh). It was good, but my memories of that first bite back in the park were not evoked in a way that made me feel like I was eating anything special.
