Found this yummy place in a drive by. Well I did have to pull a u-ey to get to the most amazing place. They had a great selection of ice creams and frozen yogurts. Their prices are super reasonable and the sizes are HUGE. The staff working their is friendly and energetic and is helpful in making a selection. It was so good that we went 2x in 6 days . I had raspberry chocolate chip frozen yogurt and the hubby had the chocolate peanut butter. Both were so so creamy. You'd never know that I was eating frozen yogurt. Well worth the trip. This is a great place to stop for homemade ice cream, located along Route 202 in Alfred. Shaker Pond Ice Cream offers over 50 flavors of hard ice cream and frozen yogurt in cones & dishes, sundaes, and other treats. Kiddie size cones/dishes are offered here for $2 (including tax), and it's a good size too. You place your order inside the shop. There's seating inside and picnic tables outside. I stopped in here for ice cream on a fairly busy and warm Saturday evening, packed with people of all ages from little kids and families to senior citizens getting their ice cream fix. The shop ran out of a few of the popular flavors (marked with a frown symbol on the menu board). I got a kiddie dish of the Alfred Tracks (vanilla-chocolate swirl ice cream packed with peanut butter cups) which was a great choice. The ice cream was really good and had a creamy cold texture and packed with lots of peanut butter cup pieces. That was a nice refreshing treat for my drive through Southwest Maine. Ok. I was all hyped up and bent out of shape because I have been wanting to try their ice cream for over a year but never made it out. I finally did last weekend and I was SO LET DOWN. Not by service, not by quantity, but by quality. The girls who work there are so friendly, patient and willing to make their customers happy. I commend this business for hiring friendly girls who don't make you feel weird when they want to try a few flavors. BUT, when I finally decided on my old faithful flavor in most ice cream shops, the kiddie coffee heath bar in a plain cone was a let down. THERE WAS NO HEATH BAR IN MY ICE CREAM. I'm sorry. I don't mean to yell, but I thought maybe it is a fluke. But my mothers cherry vanilla had ONE and I repeat ONE cherry in it and she had the single scoop size. Twice a mistake? I don't know. I thought the coffee flavor was OK, but not strong enough to my liking. I just think if I'm paying a little bit more than their competitor *coughShainscough* that it should be on par, if not superior. It was not. Their kiddie cone is 2.25, versus Shain's at $1.95 and I can even say Shain's portions are bigger. I'm still on the Shain's bandwagon, I wasn't swayed by Shaker Pond. read more

What can I say about Ice Cream! This is absolutely the best ice cream around. I have trouble with milk products but this ice cream does not upset my stomach. My two favorite flavors are mint chocolate chip and reeses overload. My husband loves the giant brownie sundae with vanilla ice cream or even better yet the traditional banana split. Generally, the ice cream is very good and well enjoyed. In all past cases we would eat there, however due to covid, yesterday I picked up 2 quarts of ice cream for my wife and I. When we went to eat some in the evening, we found one quart was completely crystalized and for sure a disappointment. This does raise concerns on the quality of any future purchases. read more

Portions are huge,,this is your stop when you crave good homemade ice cream. Too many flavors it'll make your head spin. Their French vanilla is particularly good. And I love their almond joy...a great mixture of vanilla infused coconut ice cream with spreddings of coconut, nuts, and chocolate chips. They even have whoopie pie ice cream, which is amazing! Cons: My favorite ice cream in the world is cookie dough, I've never "met" a cookie dough I didn't like, until I tried shaker pond years ago. Something about it tastes sickening. Downfall for me. Also they don't offer blizzards. And their brownie sundaes only come in one size and I'm sure its bigger than my face (exaggeration..but its huge!) Finale: Moving on, you can call ahead to have a homemade customized ice cream pie made, which are delicious! Also they sell already made ones at their store, along with selected flavors of their ice cream in tubs. However, hannafords in Maine sell them too. This place really is a hit or miss when it comes to the quality of service. Either the staff is really friendly and attentive or they just uninterested and preoccupied. I visited this location tonight and while their ice cream was fantastic and there were no issues with service, I was disappointed by the ratio of ice cream to ice cream cone. My sister and I each got two scoops on a cone and somehow we had more than half of our cones left by the time we finished our ice cream. After paying over $1.50 extra for each cone, it would have been nice to just have some ice cream to go along with it. read more

Our favorite ice cream spot. It has large portion sizes and a lower cost than Martels in Saco. It tastes fresher and tastes better because it has more mix ins or flavoring. Its creamy and there are many desserts to choose from. They make it in house. Stays open all year long too!! Outdoor picnic tables and inside tables. I get a kiddie for $2 and am satisfied. We LOVE this place! A convenient location in a 'historic' building (my wife remembers this location as an under-21 "club" from back when she was a teen), and best of all - delicious ice cream! Served nice and cold, you can get it in a cup or a cone, as a sundae or other specialty treat, or with a variety of toppings. On our last visit, I got the Coffee Cookie and it was fantastic. My wife got a sundae and it, too, was phenomenal. We've never had to wait in line for more than a minute or two, the staff has always been very friendly and helpful, and the place is always clean and neat. As neighborhood ice cream parlors that make their own ice cream go, I'm not sure you can beat Shaker Pond! read more
