    Burger and Brussel sprouts
    Lyrical E.

Oh my gosh. One of the best burgers and Brussel sprouts I've had! Sprouts were crispy and soft. Didn't need sauce on the burger. A bit salty for me but for most it's just right. The chicken and waffles had pepper infused honey! SPICY HONEY! Whoa. The chicken was crisp and juicy. I'm writing this and I'm not even done eating it!

    Fully stocked bar.

My daughter lives in Chattanooga, and I live south of Nashville so the Monteagle area is a great meeting place. We spotted this place on Yelp and we were not disappointed. The restaurant is located inside the Sewanee Inn on the campus of the University of the South. The scenery is great, so I may return to stay overnight in the Inn and play some golf next door. I arrived first and sat at the bar to wait. They have a great happy hour with $3.50 craft beer pints on tap. The service was great from the start, so when my daughter arrived with her friend, we decided to stay put for dinner - the full menu is available. We had grilled brussel sprouts for an appetizer - enough for 3 or more. I had the Chicken Fried Steak sandwich - my daughter and her friend had the Steak and Frites. We finished by splitting the caramel cookies with ice cream dessert 3 ways. All of us were very satisfied with quality and quantity in every course. I highly recommend this place - only a few minutes off I-24 at the top of the Monteagle Pass about halfway between Nashville and Chattanooga. It is far superior to most of the highway food offerings, so well worth the short detour.

The space is attractive, though it's far from being any sort of "tavern". It's rather loud, industrial. The worst aspect of the space are the tables for 2, which are small cocktail tables, really sized to hold a couple drinks, not dinner for 2. One is left with the impression that they're more interested in fitting as many diners as possible into the space rather than providing a fine dining experience. So much so that the wait staff apologized for the table size several times. Menu varies with the season, though we found most items on the online "sample" menu were on the dinner menu that night as well. Roasted oysters were plated very attractively, the oysters were plump, and the topping tasty, though several of mine were refrigerator cold - clearly made in advance and not properly heated for serving. Starter of sourdough bread with chili oil. The bread was wonderfully rustic, the chili oil was actually garlic oil. For my main, I had the "signature" trout. Pleasant enough, a nicely cooked filet swimming in a brothy sauce. Accompanied by a few small rounds of potato, what amounted to a single thinly sliced fingerling, I left hungry and considered stopping for a burger on the way home. The wife was underwhelmed with the duck. Kudos for providing an upscale dinner destination in Sewanee. Though not an option that we'd consider revisiting.

Bc of it's natural rock curves, visibility of the front stage is hit or miss, especially for the short girlies like me. Security and walking to the venue was easy. We stayed on the property in one of their yurts which made it all that more easy. They have large fields for camping on site too. Price point for the ticket felt a little up there but not terrible. And the Yurts were pricey but AC, running bathroom, very clean and cozy so can't complain. A couple of food trucks at the entrance and the doner kebab one was sooo good, we ordered from there twice in the night.

This can be a real pain at a lot of venues so having it go so smoothly here was nice. The staff was exceptionally friendly. Their friendliness stood out. It seemed like everyone I encountered really enjoyed working there and you love to see that. There were a few food options...a pizza truck and a bbq truck. I got the bbq and it was both delicious and reasonably priced. (Seriously get the bbq sandwich.) Another win. On top of all that, the venue itself was awesome. A big cave, sloped downward toward the stage so you could get a good view from anywhere, and the sound of the show was great. Overall this is a unique and interesting venue that's doing a lot of things right. Would go out of my way to return. Love it. 5 stars.
