Shenanigans is one of those restaurants which all the local people know but the tourists might just miss it. You enter from the the parking lot and are seated right away wherever you like. We tried their muffaletta which is something we really love having visited New Orleans a few times. They did an excellent job replicating it. We also got a side of fried mushrooms and fried pickles which were made nice and piping hot and were crispy and delicious. The food was also reasonably priced. Terrible experience. They did not get a simple order correct. Cheese burger no onions and no mushrooms. Both were on there. Ordered a BALT (bacon, avocado lettuce tomato) on wheat. We got an avocado lettuce tomato on white. Had to send it back. Not to mention it took over an hour to get a 9in pizza, a burger and two cold sandwiches. Needed a place to eat on a Sunday night before a Caverns show and not much in the area was open. We had lunch there today and the staff was so rude. Three young girls that were terrible. The chicken fingers were burned. I was nice but pointed it out. The server said they aren't burned they are breaded. Ok all chicken fingers are breaded. She was snotty and turned her backed to me and said she has them all the time and they are fine. They didn't bring the our fries. So I asked for the manager. She had a slightly better attitude but not by much. I told her about the burned chicken and she did offer to replace them but I passed on the offer. What's the point 30 minutes in and you have finished your meal. We were a party of seven. The pizza was pretty good with an eclectic choice of topings. The fried pickles and dipping sauce didn't disappoint either. Beer on tap selection was delightful. The staff and servers were very nice and friendly, but it appears the place has a problem retaining them for some reason because the place had to close down due to lack of staff during the busiest time while a convention of cavers was in town with thousands of visitors. The other local restaurants were swamped. The decore is nice and appealing. There is seating indoors and outdoors. The indoors was shaded and dim. Great location, decent parking availability, love the outdoor seating options. Lots of menu options and yummy draft selections. Friend ordered the muffaletta and really liked the flavor just wished the cheese was more melty. I ordered the Italian sub and added turkey, the flavor was good but they forgot the cucumbers (no biggie). Even though they were not busy, our order sat at the bar top so long that the bottom half of my sandwich became soggy before they called out one of our order numbers to come get them. Overall seems like a cool place. My recommendation: come sit outside with a cold beer and enjoy the weather with friends. Go check on your order to make sure it isn't sitting there and hasn't been called out yet. They also get quite busy on the weekends in case you want to avoid large groups. read more

On my way from NYC to Texas and wanting to visit the Jack Daniels distillery, I stayed in the Monteagle (next town over). Given how late I arrived, this was one of the only places open, so I drove over to Sewanee. Even during the summer this place is a college hangout. I walked in and was immediately surrounded by students from the University of the South, which is nearby. Food and drinks seem dirt cheap. I ordered the shenanigans sub (10$) and some onion rings ($2.5; for some reason I got them half off). The onion rings were meh, but the sub was really good. Packed chockfull of meat. This is our 2nd visit here and each time food and service were great. Today was a great time for us to visit as my wife eats gluten free now and we found that have lots of options. We got to meet with the owner/manager and he talked to us a lot about those options and made some recommendations for this and for me as I eat a plant based . She had the Philly Cheesesteak on GF bun. I had the Rivera Pizza (kind of a Mediterranean style) on a GF crust (so she could enjoy as well). This is a one star review only because no stars isn't an option. I ate here on a Friday evening. The ordering process was fine, except the cashier made a mistake on a side. I had ordered fries with my sandwich and my husband ordered fried pickles with his. We didn't know about the mistake until served and both orders had fries. We let the young man know that a mistake had occurred. He immediately pushed back that the ticket had fries for both orders. He returned with the ticket and read it to us. We replied that the cashier had made a mistake, but he became aggressive and argumentative, unwilling to make it right. The cashier came to our table, acknowledged the mistake, and told us we would get the pickles. We never received them or had any further contact with the staff. As for the food, the sandwiches were extremely disappointing. My husband's Rueben was missing the dressing and had very little meat and sauerkraut. My spicy turkey melt also had very little meat or veggies. The fries were decent. I would avoid this place if you expect decent service or food. Our bill was $39 for the sandwiches, sides and a beer. What a wonderful pizza I just had. This place is awesome. Family friendly. A lot of locals. Great drinks. Casual hangout. It is counter service but great quality food. Free pop A new owner took it over recently and I've seen a positive change from at least 3 years ago. He's more hands on with the place and helping his employees on the clock. (Previous owner had no idea what he was doing) Glad I took a chance on em again and boy am I glad I came. Just a few other things we ordered that deserved this 5 star rating were the; patty melt w/ mozzarella sticks, and a classic club sandwich. The kitchen staff seem to be managing their jobs just fine, pizza and fries came out first and they were great. TWENTY minutes later after our two deli sandwiches sat at the end of the deli counter for awhile, I asked the gal who took my order if those were mine. She said, "I don't know". First time I ever came here was back in the 90's when I saw an epic Beanland performance. This is mostly a restaurant by day but at night it sometimes turns into more of a bar. The food is decent to good and since there are not many options in the area this is generally a pretty popular spot. I've had some good times here and they generally focus on healthier bar/grill food and sandwiches which are often locally sourced. I've tried this place twice, hoping for a place close to home we could frequent. The first visit we arrived at 4:00 when they had just opened. It seems the kitchen help hadn't arrived on time and I guess none of the other 3 young girls standing around knew anything about turning on fryers and grill. They did know how to take our order and take it back to the empty kitchen. We sat down and had our beer while we waited for our food, not knowing no one was cooking. After our beer was gone a half hour later we questioned why our food was taking so long. That's when we got the kitchen story. Fast forward 3 months later...,let's try it again...I really like the vibe and it's close. We place our order at the counter and decided to sit outside after being reassured we could hear our number outside. After 35 minutes we took a table inside. As I passed the counter on the way to the table the same waitress asked if she could help us. I said "I'm still waiting for my order". She asked me for my order # and then went back to the kitchen. 15 minutes later the young kitchen guy came out with our food and the girls directed him to our table instead of placing it on the pickup table. He really wanted to exit quickly without speaking or apologizing. I asked him what took so long and he told me someone else took our order off the pickup table. The spice was provided by pickled jalapenos that were grilled into the sandwich. By the time I got to the second half of the sandwich my eyes were watering a bit. The sauteed onions were a nice touch. I also tried the fried mushrooms they were served with a side of horseradish sauce that would make a piece of cardboard taste good.
