[[HIGHLIGHT]]What a cool place to hangout rather inside or out.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If you haven't been to Sewanee I'd highly recommend it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Known as college of the south and in my book Harry Potter College....yes students do walk around in cloaks and robes.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The architecture here is that of medieval times.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They are amazing places to stay for the night and eat all around this town. This place is just one of them. Friendly staff and great service.

one of the only establishments open on july fourth, but service wasn't too slow and we only waited 25 mins for food. we tried the: - wings with honey sriracha sauce: the wings themselves had a lot of meat but kind of bland and tough - patty melt: huge 8oz patty that filled us up - skinny boy's melt: generous with the meat as well, but a tad too salty - homemade banana ice cream with whipped cream ($3.80): not what we expected, it was definitely more of blended frozen bananas (sorbet texture)

We ate not just once but twice at shenanigans in Sewanee. The spot is right on campus. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There are several students working and it has a super fun atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I'm still thinking about these cookie sandwiches with cream inside that they were selling. They were incredible the first night we had Cheesesteak sandwiches the second night. We had pizza and salad. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This is a nice casual spot.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We didn't wait too long for food and there was friendly service.

Needed a place to eat on a Sunday night before a Caverns show and not much in the area was open. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We found Shenanigans which had a cute and cozy atmosphere but was way too freezing inside to be cozy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Everyone eating there had their coats on.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ordered at the counter which took a little while because there were only two girls working the counter and dining area. I ordered the veggie burger with sweet potato fries and husband the 8 oz. patty melt. Food arrived fresh and hot but husband's patty melt was definitely not 8 oz. Mine was good and I appreciated that they had gluten free buns. The sweet potato fries we ordered were labeled as shareable but I easily could have eaten them all myself. They were perfectly cooked, crispy waffle fries. There was a popcorn machine with a sign that it was free on it but it was empty.

Pizza took awhile to come out but was really good. All are Pick your toppings. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was a lovely evening on the patio.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Staff is friendly.

The pizza was pretty good with an eclectic choice of topings. The fried pickles and dipping sauce didn't disappoint either. Beer on tap selection was delightful. The staff and servers were very nice and friendly, but it appears the place has a problem retaining them for some reason because the place had to close down due to lack of staff during the busiest time while a convention of cavers was in town with thousands of visitors. The other local restaurants were swamped. The decore is nice and appealing. There is seating indoors and outdoors. The indoors was shaded and dim. Music was low and one could easily have a conversation.

Great location, decent parking availability, love the outdoor seating options. Lots of menu options and yummy draft selections. Friend ordered the muffaletta and really liked the flavor just wished the cheese was more melty. I ordered the Italian sub and added turkey, the flavor was good but they forgot the cucumbers (no biggie). Even though they were not busy, our order sat at the bar top so long that the bottom half of my sandwich became soggy before they called out one of our order numbers to come get them. Overall seems like a cool place. My recommendation: come sit outside with a cold beer and enjoy the weather with friends. Go check on your order to make sure it isn't sitting there and hasn't been called out yet. They also get quite busy on the weekends in case you want to avoid large groups.

On my way from NYC to Texas and wanting to visit the Jack Daniels distillery, I stayed in the Monteagle (next town over). Given how late I arrived, this was one of the only places open, so I drove over to Sewanee. Even during the summer this place is a college hangout. I walked in and was immediately surrounded by students from the University of the South, which is nearby. Food and drinks seem dirt cheap. I ordered the shenanigans sub (10$) and some onion rings ($2.5; for some reason I got them half off). The onion rings were meh, but the sub was really good. Packed chockfull of meat. Only wish the sub was a little larger, but other than that great price to food ratio. would come again if I am ever in this area again.

The space is attractive, though it's far from being any sort of "tavern". It's rather loud, industrial. The worst aspect of the space are the tables for 2, which are small cocktail tables, really sized to hold a couple drinks, not dinner for 2. One is left with the impression that they're more interested in fitting as many diners as possible into the space rather than providing a fine dining experience. So much so that the wait staff apologized for the table size several times. Menu varies with the season, though we found most items on the online "sample" menu were on the dinner menu that night as well. Roasted oysters were plated very attractively, the oysters were plump, and the topping tasty, though several of mine were refrigerator cold - clearly made in advance and not properly heated for serving. Starter of sourdough bread with chili oil. The bread was wonderfully rustic, the chili oil was actually garlic oil. For my main, I had the "signature" trout. Pleasant enough, a nicely cooked filet swimming in a brothy sauce. Accompanied by a few small rounds of potato, what amounted to a single thinly sliced fingerling, I left hungry and considered stopping for a burger on the way home. The wife was underwhelmed with the duck. Kudos for providing an upscale dinner destination in Sewanee. Though not an option that we'd consider revisiting.

Unfortunately it was not the same caliber as our initial visit. Wife liked her dirty martini ok. My sazerac was too sweet and a bit hard to get through. The by the glass wine was a small and not particularly interesting selection. Fried lobster appetizer really had a much too heavy coating that overwhelmed the delicate lobster flavor. Still hard to pass on a fried lobster app though. The steaks didn't have that great grill flavor we remembered. My thin cut ribeye was overcooked as well. Though my side of fries were fabulous and the clear highlight of the evening. helpful hint - ask for no truffle oil; nasty stuff, I still can't understand why if shows up on so many menus. The worst part of the evening, and probably the thing that most made us think no on another return visit, was the party upstairs. It involved a lot of very young, very loud, screaming children. I have no doubt that it was a family gathering, but it struck any pleasure from dining in a cool historical space. Gave my wife a headache, and made us bolt to the safe quiet of our car as quickly as possible after the main course was finished.
