My childhood visits to my grandparents house weren't complete without a trip to Shakespeare's. Now, as an adult ~with a Yelp~ it's my responsibility to sing the praises of this pizza joint that isn't *just* deeply nostalgic, it's also one of my very favorite slices in the country. Chewy crust, bright sauce, perfectly covered in salty mozzarella ... Shakespeare's makes the perfect pie. I always push it in my consumption, usually overdoing it by a slice and a half, because I just don't want the meal to be over. The staff works hard ! I've seen the place slammed, and my impression is always that every employee is hustling to be efficient & attentive. I went to college at Mizzou, so Shake's is no stranger to me. Although, I hate to show my age, but this was definitely not a Shake's spot when I went to school. It's in a super convenient spot, literally anywhere in town you can get to a location within 5-10 min. HUGE restaurant space, with a private room in the back. We had my nephews 5th birthday back there and it was perfect, plus there's a couple games for the kids to play. As always, great pizza. The bar was awesome too, and the bartender was super sweet. This place was pretty crowded, so I was surprised to find that it really wasn't very good! It was very loud inside and lots of kids running around. We ordered a pepperoni pizza and a small dinner salad. The salad was pretty sad. It was a pretty big for being the smallest salad available, but bigger isn't always better. The lettuce didn't taste very fresh - was probably from a bag. And the dressing was a small pouch of Marzetti's. I really just can't forgive restaurants that can't bother to make their own dressings. The pizza was okayish, but the sauce lacked flavor. On the plus side, the staff were nice and seemed to be having fun. Overall, I would not recommend this place. read more

This is my first negative review. Avoid ordering delivery from Shakespeare's South. Ever since the lockdown, the delivery orders have been under cooked, wrong, and lukewarm. The pizza and garlic bread have been 9/10 merely melted cheese on pale bread, along with soggy, wet and kinda warm. Additionally, requested items that I paid for are missing. I've even requested extra cooking time on delivery orders, and it still comes undercooked an hour later. As well, the only success I've had was to request extra cooking time when I am in the restaurant, because even that is 50/50 that I get a pizza/cheese bread that is fully cooked. Shakespeare's Downtown is still on its game, but it's outside my delivery area. When my family visited for the first time ever since I moved here five years ago, I told them that we will only go to the Downtown location, and we were completely satisfied. So we were told that while in Colombia that Shakespeare's pizza was a must try. We rolled in around 8pm and it was not very busy. We ordered and it took about 25-30 minutes to make the 3 pizzas. We ordered the Masterpiece which was pepperoni, Canadian bacon, sausage, ground sirloin, mushrooms, olives, onions and green peppers. We also order a meat pizza and a veggie pizza. The Masterpiece was our favorite. The crust was hearty and a bit chewy. I liked the crusts thickness and flavor. The portion of meat and veggies ion the pizza was plentiful. The pizza was filling. They served both Pepsi and Coke products and have a full bar at the back of the restaurant. The napkins kinda resemble shop towels. Little weird but they were clean. Not the best pizza I have ever had but for the money a pretty decent pizza. I would stop again if in town. read more

Shakespeare's has grown on my wife and I slowly over the past 10 years since we first arrived in town for college. It's now our go-to pizza stop in town. Both of our daughters are absolutely obsessed with it though. Our 3 year old requests it every time we go out to eat, and cries when the pizza is all gone. So now, we order a large to make sure we have plenty to take home with us. Docking 1 star just because our pizza crust is sometimes fairly tough. Usually it's great though. read more

Once you get over the soul crushing news that this place does not I fact have a dog named brad, it's pretty neat. Clean and friendly staff and the food is pretty high quality. They have single pizzas that aren't really expensive, which is nice because usually when you get a single person pizza it still costs $10. The breadsticks are just absolutely phenomenal. Highly recommend them, the small order comes with 5 huge pieces. More than enough. Shakespeare's is truly a Columbia classic and is a great place to hang out with friends or grab a quick bite to eat. The restaurant itself has a wonderful vibe, with lovely furnishings and decorations and the perfect atmosphere for a fun, casual night with friends or family over a good meal and a couple of beers. All of the pizzas are good, and, while there's nothing particularly special about them, sometimes you just need some standard, no-frills pizza that's a step above the rest. I love their Panda's Pepper and Vegetablenarian, but my friend (who I swear might be a carnivore) absolutely loves the Meat Lover's. We host a party here every May and the service is always phenomenal. The party rooms are perfect for hosting large events and the staff is incredibly helpful and friendly. read more

Signage ( unless I just missed it ) would be nice. It looked like a sit down restaurant with table service. It is not and we had to ask. You order your food and drinks at the counter and give them your name. When the food is ready they call out your name over a PA system. You get your own drinks which are by a cabinet with plates, flat wear, napkins, straws, lids, shakers of parm etc. Then you find your table and wait. Once your name is called you go get your pizza. I guess this cuts down on cost, fewer employees with no servers, so really no one to tip. We couldn't tell if you bus your in table or not. Some did some didn't and the window was already crammed full. Garlic bread with cheese was no better or worse then frozen ColeBrothers / Pepperidge Farm. We got the meat pizza and the toppings were really good and they didn't skimp, but the crust was hard on the bottom. I would guess like other reviews it is over cooking the bottom but our top was cooked. They really could use some soft surfaces or acoustic tiles to cut down on noise. First time here, have always heard to try it if in Columbia and very happy I did. Had a salad and a personal size meat lovers pizza and my wife tried their take on a supreme " the masterpiece". All the toppings are really fresh and the cheese sits below the toppings so the flavor isn't smothered. Pizza dough is rolled out per order and you can watch them do it! The dough doesn't have much flavor, buts its consistency is really nice and overall this is great pizza. My favorite Shakes is the DT OG location, but that being said, I actually go to the South location a lot more. They have a great bar with lots of solid beer and cider options. The vibe is really chill. A good mix of families, but also just friends swinging in for a drink and a slice. If you've never had Shakespeares and you're not into crowds, then I think the South location is the perfect intersection between that younger crowd and OG authenticity you get from DT, to the more laidback/family style atmosphere of the W location.
