This place is going to become one of my regular stops! It's hidden away but the inside was cute, clean and spacious. The staff were extremely sweet and helpful and helped us with recommendations! The food came out quickly and was nice and hot. We sampled a number of different appetizers but really came for the Korean Corn Dogs and we were not disappointed! Shaking Bowl is at the end of a strip mall. It is a Korean Japanese hybrid, which to me means healthier food. I tried the spicy leek pancake, a Korean corn dog, and a veggie bowl with tofu on top. I got to choose a sauce, and it was not easy to decide. What helped was to see the list in descending order of heat. I ended up choosing the spicy garlic, and it was very good. I wish I had two sauces! The Korean corn dog was just ok for me, next time I'll try something else. The spicy leek pancakes were crispy , and delicious. The bowl was fantastic. I loved all the components - the red cabbage, bean sprouts, and tofu were wonderful together. The service was quick, pleasant, and helpful. We have been going to this little restaurant for three years now, and I have to say that it continues to amaze me as to how incredibly delicious every single item on the menu is! Providing that your taste buds are in agreement about the contents of the bowl, of course. The service is always friendly and staff is very helpful. Even though seating is limited, the dining area is very pleasant and nicely laid out. The food is fresh and hot, and seasoned perfectly. In a single word: TASTY!!!! Took our friends and granddaughter. Everyone loved our dish. When. A plate comes out with heaps of colorful vegetables you know you are in for deliciousness. Dale our resident chili head gave his extra spicy chicken two thumbs up and a slightly red face. Portions were big. I used to go to U-City Grill to enjoy this kind of fare. They have disappeared during the building renovation. I would usually get the Bibimbap, which was basically the same dish as this Bulgogi bowl, plus a sunny side up egg on top. I had inquired about the Bulgogi bowl, and the Fire Chicken bowl. I decided with the Bulgogi bowl, with the Fire sauce (they have regular Fire, and super hot Fire sauce.) I decided with the regular Fire sauce to be added to my bowl. Delicious! The flavor was wonderful, the rice coiled perfectly, and a nice blend of veggies. $14 included tax, and I have about a third of it left for part of tonight's dinner. I was in the area around lunch time and decided to stop in. They have 4.5 and above ratings on Yelp and Google, so this place was a definite must try! They offer counter service at this spot. The menu is fairly self explanatory. Pick your protein, carb, and veggies. Don't know where to start or what to get?? There are several house selections to choose from as well. I love bulgogi, so that was a must for me. I added a side of kimchi and gyoza to round out my meal. I stopped in on a Wednesday afternoon, so they weren't too busy. My food was ready in about 15 minutes. The bowl was absolutely beautiful! Full of tender beef,a generous portion of rice, and packed full of veggies. The gyoza was crisp with a flavorful filling. The kimchi was pretty good. I do have a favorite kimchi here in St. Louis that is almost impossible to beat in my opinion. Arrived around 1:45 pm on Tuesday for our 1st visit -- we didn't notice until close to 1:30 pm that they close (take a break) at 2 pm. Lady owner who took our order was very pleasant. I ordered veggie bowl on default white rice and added fried tofu. I wish they would leave the egg on top when tofu is added (they didn't put egg on mine). I chose "Yummy" sauce -- it was ok but next time I'll get sesame soy to get a more authentic flavor. Son ordered bulgogi bowl on default white rice. We did not know that the bowl would be so dry and tasteless without their "spicy sauce". I had stepped back from the counter so I can't be sure if the lady asked my son if he wanted sauce or not, but my son doesn't like much spicy so if she did ask he probably said no. I checked their online ordering later and "Spicy sauce" is a free selection, so it should have been given by default, or include a soy or other free sauce. Customers would at least have the option to use it, which we didn't. Gojuchang is $1 additional cost. There was a sign on a wall of their restaurant explaining Bibimbap. We have eaten a LOT of Bibimbap at various restaurants, though we usually get DolSot Bibimbap. My son usually does not add Gojuchang, so that should not have been the cause for this bowl being tasteless. If this bowl was supposed to be Bibimbap, the only part that had the correct flavor was the bulgogi beef. I will give them credit for not being stingy with the proteins (tofu and beef). There was also alot of rice (base). We both saved half to add more ingredients for another meal. read more

Shaking bowl is the go-to for ridiculously fresh, filling, and fantastic food. I've ordered the Bulgogi steak bowl at least 5 times. You can taste how freshly picked the vegetables are. I custom order my steak bowl without cucumber, but you can make any accommodations you'd like! It's a small hole in the wall joint right off Telegraph. The nicest employees and the freshest food! I was blown away by the quality of ingredients in my (B-3) Jaeyook bowl. I also had to try some chicken wings (yummy sauce), which came out hot and crispy. And of course it was all delicious. Portions were very good. I noticed they sell Korean corndogs (mozzarella filling only), which are difficult to come by in the STL area. There were a lot of other sides I wanted to try but didn't have room for. Plenty of seating available on a Friday afternoon around 12:30 pm. Very cute mom & pop shop-type vibes. I'm not ever really in Oakville, but if I ever find myself there again, I'll be grabbing a bite to eat at Shaking Bowl. read more

This is the best restaurant in Oakville. Their owner is so kind and always has something extra to give you. Her kindness always goes above and beyond. The food is super tasty as well. They have a good variety and things are fairly priced. Their ambiance is very comfortable sometimes since their kids often are doing schoolwork or playing video games at one of the tables. What a nice hidden little gem. A friend recommended it so my wife and I went and tried it. Glad we did. The restaurant is not anything you would go to be impressed with decor. There are informational posters talking about the food on the wall as well a photos of the menu items. THAT was awesome. It wasn't too crowded and we got to order right away. The lady taking the order was masked as was the kitchen staff. She was so polite too. I ordered a chicken bowl and my wife ordered a shrimp bowl. We added aside order of crab rangoon as well. The serve pepsi products from the soda station but there are other choices available in a front facing fridge by the counter. We sat down, I went and got my soda, and a bowl of rice puffs appeared at our table. They were good to have while we waited. The wait was a bit long but once I got my food I forgot about the wait. The bowls looked awesome and as it turned out tasted as good as they looked. The sauce used for the shrimp was good and probably the best Teriyaki sauce I've tasted on chicken in my bowl. The filling for the crab rangoon was good but the fried bits to filling ratio was off. Though good, I think we'd pass on them again. But the bowls, yum! We decided to try something new for dinner and decided on Shaking Bowl. I ordered the spicy chicken bowl over brown rice. It was delicious with a good mix of mild heat and fresh veggies. The serving was generous, I took half of it home. We also received our food pretty quickly. They have Pepsi products and if you get water, you get a carafe of ice cold water. We ate in and at first it wasn't very busy but then we watched as other customers came in and placed orders, most of those orders were to-go. The inside was very clean and comfortable. I have tried Shaking Bowl twice and had the same experience. I tried the spicy pork bowl and the bulgogi bowl. I have had bibimbap before at BCD tofu house, but this was vastly different, taste-wise. I found the sauce in the bowl to be very sweet and a bit bland. The deep-fried seaweed rolls are very delicious! I may not be a fan of the bowls, but the snacks/small eats look very intriguing, especially after trying the seaweed rolls. I'm interested in the Korean hotdog as well as their spicy chicken. Umm, do Yelpers a favor and go! I loved the service and the food! They had a variety of dishes and sauces that I want to come back to try because the first two bowls that I ordered impressed me. I hear people raving about the wings, so I will be back! We ordered the fire bowl with half brown rice and half noodles and then we ordered the jayook bowl with white rice. Also, we ordered a side of kimchi for a 4oz for $0.99. This was all taken out to go (last I went dine in was an option, but guidelines are changing, so please be aware). The portions were huge and filling for the price that we paid! I had enough for dinner and leftovers the next day. The fire bowl had chicken covered in a little spicy sauce (but nothing that I couldn't handle). The best thing I loved about the fire bowl was amount of sauce that also poured over the noodles and rice. Presentation was cute and colorful from the carrots, cabbage, and cucumbers. The noodles were a great substitution to the white rice, so definitely give that a try! I would say that this wasn't the same eating leftover, but what isn't the same eating them as leftovers LOL. The jayook bowl had a great, almost charred/smoky flavor to it! Definitely more of a classic, not as saucy as the fire bowl. The jayook is a pork btw! Presentation was just as cute and colorful from the carrots, cabbage, and cucumbers.
