Came on here to see if anyone else had the same experience with the tasting room associate who was less than welcoming. Really like the wines, even bought a case and one extra bottle. The employee didn't let me know that buying all that wine would not wave my tasting fee. Later he told me Since the case was a special deal, the tasting fee was not waved. It Would have been nice knowing that buying a full case plus a bottle would not wave the fee before he charged me. I would have added another bottle or held off on the full case. Me and my group also felt like unwelcoming vibes... sometimes you could tell it was a joke, other times it did come off as rude. Great wines but unfortunately that service was a turn off.

20/10 stars if I could! Steve was amazing and definitely made the experience so much more enjoyable. He was knowledgeable about the wine and went above and beyond on explaining the process of Shale Oak wine making. Not only that but the wine was so delicious. I've traveled the world and visited many different wineries but I will say Shale Oak wines is at the top of my list. Impressive balance and structure, rich flavors with a smooth, well-crafted finish. It was well-made and consistently enjoyable throughout our entire tasting -- a standout choice across the board. We will be recommending Shale Oak and Steve to all our friends who visit Paso Robles!

We loved the wines and ambiance here so much that we joined their wine club. Wide variety of award winning wines...Albarino, Rose, Zin, Syrah, Cab, blends and more. I like my wines with full body that feature the fruit notes of the grapes, are not over oaked, and have soft tannins... and I find the winemaker here has similar priorities. We especially enjoy their Ka blend... petit verdot , Petite sirah, Zin and Syrah. Big and complex with luscious dark fruit and silky smooth tannins. Nice boutique winery with a small but inviting tasting room. Contemporary styling with lovely, big stained glass windows. Bar seating, lounge seating, or patio seating. Pet-friendly. Variety of charcuterie boxes to pair with your wine. Steve, the tasting room manager, is always friendly & hospitable. Our first wine club wine pickup event was a blast... Seafood Boil, DJ dancing, and copious pours of their lovely wines.

We checked in and were treated to a tasting of their Zinfandel Nouveau upon arrival while they got out table ready... nice and refreshing for a warm afternoon. We were seated in the separate dining room building across the patio with lovely panoramic views of the vineyards on one side and a floral garden on the other. Josh, our server, poured our 4 other shared tasting flight as we perused the menu... Chardonnay, Grenache, Syrah and Super Paso (red blend). Wines were all lovely, but our favorites were the Zinfandel Nouveau and an extra treat pour of Zinfandel. The food was delightful too... * Focaccia with Avocado Butter -- So good (and I don't usually indulge in bread). Nice lightly crunchy crust with soft chewy centers. * Marinated Olives * Golden beet salad with arugula, picked onions and artichoke feta dip -- yum, and perfect dipping to finish off the focaccia. * Fresh Grilled Halibut with a mole Blanco sauce -- Fresh caught from nearby Morro Bay. Perfectly grilled, moist and flavorful. Excellent! Good food paired with food wine, great service, and beautiful surroundings...We look forward to visiting again.

The place is very busy. We opted for a wine tasting with lunch. They offered 5 wines and proper tasting pours. When we were seated, water was quickly served and we ordered their House-made Sourdough Focaccia which was served with lavender butter and lavender salt. That was very tasty - the lavender butter and salt worked well with the bread. My wife ordered the Duck Confit and I ordered the Bucatini Pasta which featured Mighty Cap Mushrooms. The sauce was very rich and flavorful. The pasta was cooked properly, and the mushrooms were just so good. The Duck Confit was similar - the duck leg was cooked properly, and worked great with the Heirloom tomatos and plum, all of which sat on a wild rice salad. You can skip the wine tasting and order drinks or wine off the menu if you want. Take a moment to walk around the grounds, look up at the ceiling work. They have have a shop with some neat winery stuff. Staff and service were excellent, and the menu and the food were outstanding!

Long story short, we had just dropped off our only daughter to her university and staying at Summerwood was to be our "we're not ready to drive home yet" staycation as we are now officially empty-nesters...and yes its as bad as everyone says.., lol..anywho...on to the review! First off, the people here are amazing...they really went above and beyond. I cant even imagine what we looked like at the time, where any convo could've sparked a rando cry session, but the people there were amazing! I have no idea what I had expected from this trip, but they somehow did and delivered it graciously. This is one of those places whose employees show pride in their work. Breakfast was killer...legit solid breakfast. I had the Avocado Toast and wished I had ordered the Benedict...good luck choosing which breakfast to choose, but it was all presented impeccably, and the taste was definitely top tier. They said that the chef is well known in the area and cooks for some expensive clientelle, and I have zero reason to doubt from the presentation that was given us. Bonus points if you can score those killer cookies that have out. As for the ambiance...super cute romantic walks through the vinyard are just magical. I attached a picture of that view in this review. Rooms were all super clean all decorated in a very cute "modern farm" type motif, but with nice upgrades to make sure you know you are being taken care of. We had their sparkling white and one of their reds and they were both great wines...I am not a pro, I have two categories of wine. Wine I like and wine I don't like. I will drink both as I was taught to never waste food or drink, but in this case both were super enjoyable. Again my thanks to the staff there as you really had an impact on two lost souls...two people who desperately needed the hospitality y'all provided endlessly. Thank you again!

She did an excellent job explaining the wines and not rushing us. I was impressed with the wines so I joined the wine club. Their wines are reasonably priced and tasting fee is $30 per person but if you buy a bottle of wine it's waved. Mr. Gino came and sat with us for a while and had us very entertained with all his wonderful stories . He is always so kind and welcoming. My husband and I enjoyed all of the wines we tasted. We decided to bring home the 2022 Zinfandel, 2019 Malfada and the 2018 Tre Sorelle. In all honesty you can't go wrong with any of their wines.
