Unfortunately- a very disappointing experience and we will not be returning. Prior to even scheduling, I had sent an email to the boutique inquiring about costs. I specified the breed of my dog (goldendoodle) and the weight (65 lbs). I got an email response saying that the price could vary based on different factors (fair), but the starting price would be $99. Originally made an appointment a few weeks ago that got cancelled the night before because the groomer got sick. Completely understandable, but disappointed we couldn't get rescheduled at any other location because we had a wedding and wanted our lil pup to look nice for pictures. I called back a couple weeks after, wanting to give the salon a try, and scheduled an appointment. Person asked for the breed of the dog, and was able to fit me in following week. Easy. The time I had scheduled conflicted with my work, so my father and sister took my dog the boutique for me. What a mess they had to deal with. For one- just prior to the appointment I got a call from the shop asking if my dog could be brought in 1/2 hr earlier. They accommodated to that. Then upon arrival, they were told that they were expecting to groom a mini goldendoodle and not a standard size one, and it would be very difficult for them to be able to fit my dog into their schedule. From the way my family portrayed it, they said the groomer also made it seem like we lied about the type of dog we had when scheduling. Then on top of that, they said because of her size she would have to be charged $114 (a contradiction to the initial inquiry). My family didn't stress about the price change, as they just wanted our dog to be groomed. After a lot of back and forth, the groomer finally agreed to groom our dog and specifically said she was doing it as "a courtesy." A courtesy? Excuse me? We made an appointment to get our dog groomed and showed up as scheduled. You're doing what you were expected and getting paid to do, it's not a "courtesy." My poor dog stayed from the Salon from 1-5:45 pm to be groomed!! And my sister received multiple calls being told they need to push the pick up time. And the outcome was nothing special. In fact, we had better grooming done at Petsmart in the past for much cheaper. Ended up getting an extra charge for matting even though our dog barely had anything (we comb her daily). Even if she was more matted, I've never been charged extra for it at other salons. I've only been told our dog needs to be shaved more than what we wanted in order to get rid of the matting. My sister calmly expressed to the front desk and groomer her disappointment with her experience, and she received a lot of excuses and blame from them. To top it off, like it was stated in another review, my dad and sis drove away only to realize in the car that my dog's collar was missing. When they went back to the shop to get it, the groomer even had an excuse for that! And said that my dog was so excited so she got distracted and forgot to put the collar back on. I was recommended to Shampooch by a family friend about a year ago and have been bringing my dog there ever since. Sue and her staff are great at what they do and know how to properly take care of their dog guests. Her prices are reasonable and she always try's her best to squeeze us in whenever we need a last minute appointment. The store is very clean and in a convenient location. The best part is that they let the dogs walk around and mingle before and after their cuts, rather than putting them in a cage. Highly recommended! read more

She loves dogs so much and you can tell they love her as well. I should mention that when I first took my rescue to Sue he was fully matted and she had to shave him completely. A couple of weeks ago I brought my 14 year old Maltese in for a grooming. I could not of been happier with my experience. My doggie is diabetic, blind and has a slipped disk, so I was super nervous. The owner showed me exactly what she would do. How everything would work and where he would be while he waited to get picked up. When I got there my doggie was relaxed and napping the day away. Four enthusiastic paws up for Shampooch Spa on Merrick Road in Wantagh! We have two rescue dogs, each of whom came from severely abusive situations; they can be a bit skittish and timid at times. Sue, the owner and groomer, is the epitome of a dog person! From the first time we brought our "boys" there, we knew that they would be safe, well cared for, and treated respectfully. They always come home smelling delicious and looking even more adorable than when they arrived, which is quite a feat! Having been to several other places (all highly recommended but terrible for Mo and Louie) prior to finding Shampooch, I can barely express what a relief it is to know that our dogs will not be traumatized when they go for grooming. Absolutely love this place! Brought my 11 year old Maltese here on a whim after recently moving in to the area. Sue genuinely cares for these animals and was very honest upfront about if the dog is difficult, the charge will be higher. She said my dog ended up super easy and fantastic! We just had Obi, our puppy Golden Retriever/BorderCollie mix professionally groomed by Sue, owner of Shampooch Grooming. Not only are we happy with the grooming Sue did with Obi but she showed a genuine interest and love for our dog. When I entered Shampooch and met Sue she immediately sat on the floor playing with her while informing me as to her grooming techniques and her ideas and suggestions for Obi's new look. It was obvious that Obi liked her too. I walked out of there feeling like I already knew Sue. When my fiancé went to pick up Obi she was also impressed in how Sue was a natural while showing experience in her craft. Obi was very happy & looked great! Keep up the good work guys. Horrible experience!! Took my Shorkie puppy here to get groomed. I told the owner/groomer that it was his first time getting groomed. When I went to pick him up I was told my puppy was very difficult and if he didn't get used to her she would refuse him as a client. This is the 3rd dog I ever owned and not once have I ever heard of a groomer saying a dog was difficult. She claims to have been in this industry for years so you would think she would have experience grooming a first time puppy. Now even though I live around the corner from this place I have to drive to a more competent groomer. read more

Historically I prefer to keep my reviews short and sweet and right to the point not to waste anyone's time but please bear with me on this review because you need to have a little of the background story to understand the situation with my dog may differ from an average person and why I waited so long to leave a review. I adopted my dog about three years ago saving her from a kill shelter. After adopting her we realized she had been physically abused and she also had an eye condition where she produces no tears at all, ( we knew about the eye condition prior to adopting her). We took her to numerous vets and specialist regarding the eyes but came to find out there was no cure and it was a condition that could have been prevented when she was a puppy but the original owner obviously was not concerned. To prevent her eyes from drying out or "gooking" up we put eyedrops in her eyes consistently throughout the day, and this will last for the rest of her life. She is approximately six years old and the first year we had her Was spent building trust and confidence that we would not hurt her and we will take care of her. With that being said after the first year we decided to try out a few groomers. The first two did not work out because of her fears and past and they were very honest with us and saying that she would not be comfortable there and I respected that as a dog owner. We then brought her to Shampooch and met Sue. With all the honesty in my heart I could tell the difference that my dog was still scared but more trusting and upon picking her up after her first appointment sue said she had calmed down immediately after receiving a bath and went through the whole grooming with no issues. I had also left a bottle of eyedrops which Sue used throughout the whole process to make sure her eyes were always wet. Since that time I have used this place for what's going on close to two years now and I absolutely adore Sue and her staff and the love and care they put into my dog. Anyone with an abused rescue knows how delicate any situation can be and now when I bring her in there she has your typical nervous barking but calms down immediately when I hand her over. I would highly recommend this groomer to anyone I meet and as a trusted dog owner if Sue stated the animal may not be comfortable there I would take that without an issue and appreciate the respect and opinion to protect my animals. Hopefully I have many many more years to bring my pet there. read more

DO NOT SEND YOUR DOG TO THIS PLACE, be warned. Had my 6 month golden doodle there on Saturday 4/12/14 this lady with tattoos who I think is the owner said $85 and that it maybe more. I came back 3 hrs later she told me that it would be $100 and that if I paid cash and she wouldn't charge me the $8 dollars tax. She told me that my dog was very difficult and that the time it took her to have him done she could have done 3 mini puddles at $55 each. My dog came back to me traumatized, to add insult to injury had to drive back to get his dog collar they didn't put back. Will never go back again what a rip off! read more

If you have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, do NOT bring your dog to this groomer! I brought my beautiful tri-color Cavalier to be bathed and TRIMMED. I brush her and bathe her myself on a regular basis. I told them that she had a little matting under her arms but that was it. When I picked her up, I was in complete shock. She was completely shaved down to 1/4 inch all over her entire body with the exception for her ears and tail. I was so shocked that I didn't even say anything. When I got my dog home, all I wanted to do was cry. She had such a beautiful, long, silky and well maintained coat. The only reason I brought her to this groomer was because my groomer moved and this place was recommended to me. If they didn't know or weren't sure of the proper way to groom this breed, they should have informed me. You're NOT supposed to shave a Cavalier! If they felt the need to completely shave my dog, then they should have called me first to ask my permission!! Now my beautiful Cavalier looks like a beagle with a long haired tail. I was recommended to Shampooch from a friend after having a bad experience at another grooming shop.. I have a senior shihtzu that is very nervous around new people and was never a fan of being groomed. Susie reassured me that she would get her done as soon as possible. Don't not come here!!!!!!!! I brought my 6 month old cocker poodle mix here and my dog gets very excited around people and she peed on the floor SUE I guess the owner got really upset with me and told me to go outside and walk my dog so I came back and she really didn't introduce her self or wasn't really to friendly she seemed annoyed and just started mentioning prices saying since my dog is a puppy and very hyper it was going to be more I understood that I know it can be difficult to groom a puppy. I came back to pick up my dog that was not the same when I dropped off I do not know what she did but my dog was not being her usaull hyper self and if your a dog lover and know your dog u know when something isn't right her tail was tucked and she wasn't even happy to see me. I couldn't wait to just pay and just leave she charged me 65$ meanwhile my dog is only 20 pounds and isn't full grown yet she made me pay in cash and said that there machines where down. I read the reviews on here and wanted to give it a try but never will go back I also got my dog back smelling like smoke yuckkk read more
