This may be the first yelp review I have ever written, but Dr. Shanahan and his beyond superb team inspired me to take the time so others may benefit from their excellence! The refreshing experience began with a beautiful, "cool", kid friendly office setting (both in Napa AND now St. Helena) and competent, friendly front office staff (special shout out to Yoanda who goes above and beyond when no one is looking & is just a gem). Then Dr. Shanahan and his clinical staff are an incredibly professional, detailed, and genuinely caring group that do whatever it takes to ensure your optimal care and results. They REALLY take the time to listen, inspect, "fix" and educate patients with long-term oral health in mind. They are not $ or volume driven, but rather patient-centered. One small example is I went to another (unnamed) Ortho office in St. Helena where I kinda felt like a # and was told I needed Invisalign for $5k. On a hunch I pursued Shanahan's office for a second opinion (did not disclose it WAS a second opinion) and he & his staff spent about 45 minutes with me (FREE consult!) only to tell me he DIDN'T think I needed Invisalign. LOVE THAT. So honest and not in upselling mode. I ended up returning to his office to update my retainer/mouthguard where my experience was equally impressive. In short, Dr. Shanahan is just a good family man and superb practitioner that loves kids, loves his profession, and basically found his calling. He attracts and retains staff of the same caliber. I don't usually take the time to write reviews but....This is the best Orthodontist i have ever been to. I did 4 years of invisalign with another in Roseville. I also had a great experience with him. I recently a problem with bite misalignment and Dr. Shanahan made me new trays and fixed me right up. As in other reviews i have to agree his staff is his most valuable asset. Being in business myself i understand how importance that is. They are always happy and willing to help in anyway. If you need a orthodontist you do not want to go anywhere else than here. I took one child for braces while the other needed a correction on his bite. Dr. Shanahan made it affordable for both my kids to go there and receive superstar treatment! We love Carolina at the front counter. She is so accommodating and understanding with changes to schedules between school and sports. Cindy and Gabby are amazing and super fun. Where to start?! I had gone to a couple consultations for my daughter in town, but once we had one with Dr. Shanahan it was a no brainer! He took his time and thoroughly explained to me what needed to be done for my daughter. I had a lot of questions, and Dr. Shanahan was happy to answer all of them for me. My daughter is a very nervous person, and gets anxiety easily. She cried at one of her appointments and Dr. Shanahan and his staff were so amazing with her. They talked her through it and explained everything they were doing, and helped calm her down. She now feels very comfortable there and looks forward to her appointments. This is my 2nd YELP review EVER I came to Dr. Shanahan due to my long time dentist for 20 years! Dr. Shanahan was very gentle very professional and in a timely manner from the beginning of my first visit to the end which was the best, getting my braces off at 53 years old was the best thing I think I ever did for my physical being At first I was a bit embarrassed because I believe I first had my consultation when I was 49 or 50 years old and both my children were college graduates having been also graduates of orthodonture in there early lives. I love to smile and I was a bit reluctant as I was starting to age if my smile could be improved upon oh boy did it it changed everything going to Dr. Shanahan created a upwards spiral of confidence and I can't thank him enough!!! I would like to add although there are too many names to reference his staff and his office are so well run and professional. They really care! I just recently came into his office again. To get retainer replacements as I had lost mine it had been four years the office staff noticed me I was surprised The office was remodeled it looked immaculate and smelled clean and looked clean that sounds kind of weird but it is a lovely place to come where you feel relaxed and even the waiting room is comfortable!!! After completing consultations with three orthodontics in town, my eleven year old daughter and I decided on Dr. Shanahan. I do not feel you can go wrong with the orthodontics in town, but Dr. Shanahan was the best fit. He was very genuine and kind. He was the only one who said he would wait until the baby teeth were grown to do the braces, but my daughter has a problematic tooth coming in crooked. It must be corrected ASAP. I had very uneven teeth since childhood and was always afraid of braces. At age 50, my teeth finally became so crowded that I couldn't floss and it was time for action. I found Dr. Shanahan friendly and easygoing but exceptionally thorough and professional. The process required the removal of 4 teeth and gradually shifting the others to fill the gaps. What a huge job. Dr. Shanahan and his fantastic office staff were just great. They guided me through the process the whole way. I was pretty nervous but they were very supportive and put me at ease. It was a long road for me and there were some bumps along the way. All normal things- a broken bracket here, a loose wire there, and the rubber bands! How to hook those things on? This group of professionals took care of me the whole way. They were always ready to help. Dr. Shanahan's attention to detail amazed me. After several months, I thought I was pretty much done but he felt more adjustments were needed. He explained that his job wasn't complete until the tiny space between my teeth on uppers exactly lined up with my lowers. Wow! I never even thought to look. He did exactly what he promised. They line up perfectly! I spent the last 40 years covering my mouth when I smiled or laughed. Dr. Shanahan and his staff gave me a new smile and I feel like a new man! I smile at everyone.
