I just made my 3rd Shane Co purchase and I gotta say, they make throwing away months and months of your hard earned salary on a piece of metal really easy and enjoyable. Everyone working here is very professional, they have little amenities like cookies and a nice coffee/cappuccino setup, and most importantly they are efficient. I was scared sh^tless the first time I came in this place to start looking for engagement rings because I thought that this was going to be some big long drawn out process that was going to put me in debt for the rest of my life. But it wasnt. In fact I have spent more time picking out what kind of craft beer I want at the grocery store than I have with all of my combined purchases at Shane Co. While I really hope I have stepped foot in this place for the last time...I will say that if you are some young doofus considering getting engaged or just gettin somtin nice fo yo lady friend...this is a great place to start. read more

Don't expect them to do anything outstanding if they do make a mistake. They will fix it but don't wait for a hand shake and a I'm sorry. Here is my story: Bought engagement ring Xmas eve which was wrong size (was a 6.0). Went back a month later because ring kept flying off fiancés finger. (This was my fault for guessing wrong size and previously dating larger women). We retuned with idea of getting smaller sized definitive setting,but fiancé liked the starter band so we ended up resizing the existing ring and upgrading the stone another half karat instead. They informed us ring has to be redone so will need to be picked up another day which was fine. I live 70 miles away from Shane co and came here based on reputation. This is where things ran off the tracks Salesman forgot to write new ring size down and after driving an hour on a snowy wed night and my fiancé being excited to get new ring after not having ring for ten days-the new ring was still a 6.0. I was irate bc this was explicitly the reason we returned in the first place. The cashier said we will fix this and tried to defuse me. I said get sales person *******. He remembered us, and recalled the sizing issue but did not say anything when I said it was still the wrong size. When we asked the cashier about the work order, she said it never said anything about changing the ring size just re-set the stone. I don't expect them to open up the vault and give us the Hope diamond over a mistake like this, but a simple I am sorry you drove an hour and we screwed up seems like the decent thing to do. Instead nothing was said. I have made mistakes in dentistry and have never been sued because the buck stops w me and I am not afraid to say I am sorry or to make things right in the event someone is inconvenienced. Listen up peeps, if you're looking to take a significant other to look at rings or go shop around Shane Co is a good place to start. Their selection is huge. In fact, you will be overwhelmed. I took my fiancé to look at different styles here and it was kind of helpful. However, she didn't really know what she wanted so she ended up walking out overwhelmed. If you're someone who knows what they're looking for then Shane Co is for you. The sales people are really nice and know what they're doing but it was a bit crowded and it made it hard to get help when needed. Especially since they try really hard to give everyone a lot of attention. Compared to local jewelers, you're going to pay a bit more to shop here. I didn't buy anything but maybe there's room for them to come down on the prices...although I'd imagine not since you won't work directly with an owner. OK. I have to give kudos where kudos are due. My experience at Shane Co was phenomenal. I'm looking for engagement rings all throughout the St. Louis area, certifications online, and so on. I don't know jack about the business, but I have to say, most jewelers in the area will explain it in very plain language as an education process. I highly recommend a prospective ring shopper to educate themselves first and foremost, however, and for the love of all that's holy: shop around first. Shane Co was my seventh destination, and within half an hour of browsing, I knew it'd be my last one. I found the perfect ring and a diamond to boot, both quite moderately priced. Problem: I didn't exactly know my prospective fiancee's ring size. I could guess (less than 5.0), but beyond that it's throwing darts (I tried all sorts of methods to little success without giving it away). And this is where Shane Co fails at selling their services. They don't brag nearly enough on the service they offered me: they were willing to give me the ring I wanted at a size 5 BUT with a temporary sizer attached that would reduce the ring to a size 4. After I proposed? They merely instructed me to come back in with the girl, have her ring finger get properly sized, and they would specially order the same setting fit to her finger. When it arrived, we'd merely swap the diamond out of one into the other, and voila! She has her brand new ring, and Shane Co has their ring that they'd so graciously let me use/temporarily size so as not to ruin the surprise. For rings with a lot of inset diamonds, it's best not to have them cut/re-sized too much, so this service was fantastic for the ring I chose. When her final ring came in, the switch-out process only took a special asking of mine - and 15 minutes later, it was done (as opposed to their advertised 48 hours). The whole process, complete with their free cookies, coffees, and mints (oh man, they're good) was almost entirely without hiccup. Lastly, another point that Shane Co doesn't sell itself enough on: I was informed that I can upgrade my stone at any time with a 1:1 trade-in value of my original stone. So, hypothetically, if you buy a $10,000 stone, and a new $10,001 stone strikes your fancy, guess what? Your upgrade is merely $1. That said, I don't know if I'll be needing that anytime soon. Regardless of their ring selection, I have to give my primary kudos to Ian -- and I wish I knew his last name. I attended the Elite Event and they were amazing hosts. I was impressed with the number of staff members on hand to answer any questions. I was specifically looking for a Mother's ring and there is an entire section dedicated to such ring styles. They did not have what I was looking for, but I understand that I am not looking for the typical Mother's ring and will most likely need to have it custom made. I was most impressed with the pearl section. I love pearls and they had so many different colors of pearls: traditional, green and everything in between. The next time I am in the market for pearls, I will definitely visit Shane Co. I work with several men who have purchased engagement rings from Shane and they have all told me how great the customer service is and that they never felt pressured. I did not make a purchase this evening, but I do agree that their customer service was excellent. Another little touch I thought was interesting, were the name tags. The staff doesn't work on commission so I didn't feel pushed and neither did my fiancé when we were looking around. After a terrible experience waiting for an engagement ring from Jared I was hoping for a positive experience to circumvent it. Coming into Shane Co. was a great idea and I wish we had done it sooner. All the employees were hospitable. I was asked 10 times if I was finding everything all right and when I was ready to talk to a sales rep there was one readily available in spite of how busy it was. Even though the man who helped us was also helping another customer this did not decrease his work ethic and the help he gave us. He would bring out the rings that caught my eye, offer suggestions and then leave me to try them on while he helped the other customer. Then he would return and we would discuss what worked and what didn't. It took awhile but we found the perfect ring and wedding band. No waiting for shipping required either as they have an on site workshop. Only two days and my rings were ready to pick up! Just a note, if you are interested in a piece, it's best to put down a deposit as I was told that each piece is unique and there are not guarantees that it will be in another shop. I went here because I was shopping for an engagement ring. The store is very nice, and was larger than any other store I visited, except maybe one. The store is divided into 2 sections. The one only has engagement rings, the other has other jewelry ( I didn't go to the other side). The side with engagement rings had the best selection of anywhere I went in the area. Also in the display case with the rings were some loose diamonds in all shapes, sizes and qualities, everything from small, quarter carat stone for a few hundred dollars up to stones that cost more than my car (which I bought new). They also had many other stones in the safe they could show you upon request. Their customer service is good, maybe even top notch. They recognized me and remembered me each time I came in. They had one person work with me as I looked at rings, and someone else help me when I looked at stones. They respected my budget and had a lot of great service plans which you get for free with purchase of a ring. For example, they offer to clean it and recoat it with rhodium ever so often, and for free. They also let me stay in the store after they closed as long as I needed to to conduct my business. So if they are so good, why didn't I give them 5 stars? My last time there, they kept running off; they'd spend 1-2 minutes showing me a stone or ring, then they'd run off for 5-10 minutes and go do something else. Other than that, their prices for stones were not competitive. I'd say they were maybe 40% more than their competition. With that established, they showed no interest in working with me. I asked if I could bring in a stone from elsewhere and mount it on one of their rings. They would do it, but only for a fee, and I wouldn't get any of the benefits of buying a ring from them (see above). When I told them their competition had much better prices, they showed me stones at the same price, but that were lower quality and smaller. They claim to want your business and claim to be willing to compete, but to offer a clearly inferior product for the same price is not a way to compete with other businesses in the area. Other than that, I thought they were pretty good; they certainly beat out any of the other national chains I visited. read more

I took my ring to Shane Co late October for a regular maintenance. It took a couple of days to get my ring back. About a week or so later a diamond fell out. I took my ring back into the store. I was informed the reason the diamond fell out was due to there not being enough metal around the diamond which should have been noticed when the ring was with them a week prior. Initially I was given a three week time frame to get my ring back. I didn't get my ring back until 9 weeks later. Upon receiving my ring everything appeared to look normal until I was able to actually sit and look at it. The first thing I noticed that it had a Shane co stamp inside of the band. My ring didn't have a stamp. Second thing I noticed was my diamonds were not the same. One larger diamonds in the center of my ring fell out and that was the only work that was to be done to my ring. I brought my concerns to the store manager Ashley, she basically insulted me by asking if I was trying to get a free ring and she was very dismissive about the issue at hand. She only kept saying that the ring is beautiful. She informed me the reason the stamp was in my the ring, was because it had to be recasted. Which was never brought to my attention beforehand, nor was I asked was it ok to do any modifications to my ring. I am not happy with the ring that was given to me because this is not my ring. I have pictures of my original ring, that proves that the appearance has changed. read more

Our purchasing experience was great. I was so excited to pick out my ring and diamond! But then a short time before the wedding I personally took the rings in to be soldered together for our ceremony. My then fiancé picked the rings up and stowed them away to regive them to me on our wedding day. I should have looked at them because they weren't soldered evenly which changed the sizing. So during our ceremony he couldn't get them all the way on my finger. I had to finish pushing them on. Horrible customer service! Went there today and no one would help me and when someone finally did, she was so rude and walked away from me to help someone else. Right in the middle of me asking her if she had the circle of life sapphire pendant that is on their website, she walked away to ask someone else if they needed help and then took her ring and walked away. I was still holding a very expensive sapphire bracelet in my hands, and just set it down, and left. They were not that busy on a Wednesday afternoon. I had at least 3 people walk by and not ask me if I needed help. I would never have imagined such horrible customer service. I could not understand why she would not have at least said, "I will be right back", or something! Nothing, just completely walked away to help someone else while I am holding a bracelet and asking for another item. I am an avid collector of diamond and gemstone jewelry. We were looking at rings for the first time and the guy who helped us (at the Olive location) was awkward from the get-go and then became rude at the end. He gave some awkward line about how we loves us together but some things need to be kept a secret. He took my boyfriend and left me alone for 15 minutes. No one else helped me, I just stood there with the 3 settings I'd already looked at. It was...almost lonely. I'm looking at engagement rings and I felt weird and sad. It DEFINITELY didn't feel like we had a friend in the diamond business. After he determined that he couldn't high pressure sell my boyfriend at that exact moment, he pawned us off on someone else. I wouldn't reccomend them....we went to 3 other stores that day and every one was more friendly. If we're spending that much money, you better be nice or save us money. I was so disappointed with the service of Shane. Perhaps my salesperson was new , she did not have a lot to do. I brought in my own stone, she helped me pick out a setting, took my size and I was out of there. Went back to pick up on the day and time they told me to come back, they go to drawer bring,y ring to me and the stone had been set but it had not been sized!! She did not even write that down in the instructions!!! She basically had one thing to ....and she didn't do it!!!! So they measured my finger and I had to make another trip to pick it up. Never once did any of the people I dealt with offer an apology. This was my first purchase at Shane, I went because my husband has bought me several items from them and I have always been pleased. Customs service means a lot, especially when you are spending thousands of dollars, you would think a simple apology would be warranted. I came into this store awhile back looking to custom design an engagement ring. My boyfriend and I had already been to one jeweler so we were doing research to find out where we wanted to spend our money. We asked about designing a ring when we finally were able to gain the attention of a salesperson only to be quickly told that they don't do custom jewelry and that was it, he walked away and avoided making any contact with us again. I find that incredibly odd considering that when I search for custom jewelry designers, this company almost always comes up first. I guess they just didn't want our money. Bought my wife a necklace for our 10 year wedding anniversary. Well, when she got it, she asked me what I paid for it. Of course, honestly is always the best bet, so I told her. She wanted to return the necklace and get something else, product wise. When returning it, they gave her the run around and made her wait around and also tried to get her talked into getting something else. Now when you pay for something, it takes it out of your account instantly. When you return it, they said it can take 10 business days which is a bunch of crap! I'm a long-time user of Shane Company. My first experience with this location was to purchase an engagement ring. I'm sorry, my intent was to 'browse' engagement rings. Kind of like I go to the car dealership to 'look' and cars and end up driving one home. Anyways, the experience is what I'm accustomed to at Shane Company: personalized service by associates who actually seem to care (or do an excellent job of pretending). I don't dress up to go here. I walked in wearing a pair of jeans, a t-shirt, and a 4-day beard and was immediately helped. I told her exactly what I wanted and she showed me exactly what I asked for. No attempt to up-sell or suggest anything other than what I wanted. There was never a hint of impatience or pressure from the associate, either. The check-out process was smooth and easy and the ring was ready within a day or two if I remember correctly. The jewelry also comes with an outstanding warranty as well as free cleanings and inspections for life. I returned just today for the first 6-month cleaning and inspection and was helped immediately once again (they were very busy) and received top-notch service. I highly recommend this place over that other store that starts with a 'J'. read more

One of the things Tom Shane touts in Shane Company's advertising is the fact that sales associates are not paid on commission and therefore customers can expect a low-stress store experience void of any pressure to buy, and I applaud him for that. Unfortunately, we found at this store that there are other ways for sales associates to create an unpleasant shopping experience. Although we found a good selection of rings at competitive prices at the store, due to the actions of the sales associates and the store manager, and the designs available at other stores at similar similar prices, I have awarded one star. We went to Shane Company because, after 26 years, my wife wanted to reset the diamond in her engagement ring. We wanted to include rubies in the new ring to reflect the joy our daughter who was born in July has brought to us. When we first arrived at Shane, we were immediately greeted by a sales associate who made a good first impression. We explained what we wanted. The sales associated stated that she did not work on commission, that Shane Company had the largest selection of rings in the area, that the store had jewelers onsite who could quickly set my wife's diamond in a new ring, and that she would help us to look at all the rings in the store. As my wife selected rings she liked, the sales associate explained that she could not have more than three rings out at a time, so when my wife reached that number but saw another one she liked better than the three that were out, she eliminated one. All went smoothly for the first 30 minutes or so. Abruptly, the sales associate said that we had too many rings out although we had only three, and my wife must narrow her choices to fewer than three. At that point, we were about 75% of our way through the store's selections. My wife explained that each of the three she had out had plusses and minuses, and she could not eliminate any of them without seeing others. Nevertheless, the sales associate continued to insist that my wife narrow down her choices below three. This was on a Monday afternoon, when there were only two or three other customers in the store, and several sales associates were standing around, doing nothing. By pressuring us, the sales associate was insensitive to the obvious fact that our ring is an engagement/wedding ring, a ring that my wife will be wearing every day for the rest of her life and pass on to our daughter. As I wrote above, we wanted to include ruby accent diamonds in the setting. We reminded the first sales associate that we wanted to include rubies in the ring. My wife had selected rings that had a single, surprise diamond on each side of the bridge My wife said she would be happy with replacing each surprise diamond with a ruby, assuming that the on-site jewelers could do that relatively easily. The sales associate then said we should talk with another sales associate who was the "ruby expert" and called that woman over. At this point, the first sales associate left. The ruby expert told us to replace even the surprise diamond on each side of the ring with a ruby would be difficult. She said that "they would have to take the ring completely apart," and they couldn't simply remove the surprise diamonds and replace them with a ruby. The ruby expert associate suggested that, rather than making any changes to a ring, we consider ruby earrings, a ruby necklace or bracelet or a ruby band. She did not recognize the symbolic importance of our desire to have my wife's engagement diamond and rubies representing our daughter integrated within a single ring. And it apparently did not dawn on her that my wife might already have ruby jewelry (she has several pieces). Nevertheless, my wife said she would be willing to look at ruby bands. The sales associate showed us the one ruby band in the case we were standing next to. I had to go to the other cases to find and tell her I saw three other ruby bands. Shane's advertising highlights the fact that it specializes in rubies, diamonds and sapphires. I was surprised that there were only four ruby bands, and all were ordinary. None of them fit well with the rings my wife had selected due their design, given my wife's emerald cut diamond. At that point, we had two rings we were debating between. After we walked over to look at the other three ruby bands, the sales associate insisted we had to select one of the two rings so that she would know which ruby band to suggest among the available ruby bands. Both rings had similar settings. My wife picked one, and the sales associate showed us all three bands in the case. I cannot help but wonder whether, if my wife had selected the other band, the ruby expert would have shown us anything different. She did not offer to show us any bands other than the ones that were out in the cases. In short, she displayed virtually no interest in accommodating our requests or selling us anything other than the rings that were available in the store's case read more

This was my first time here. At first I was slightly intimidated because of the sheer size of the store and how nice it is. They were pretty busy but my sales associate gave me her undivided attention until I walked out the door. Very nice and clean interior, also very well lit. So, I was duped into going to look at rings with my, at the time, girlfriend. When we walked into Shane Co. we were greeted by what we later found out was the store manager named Josh. Josh, from the very first second, made us both feel very comfortable about simply looking at rings. I told him that purchasing an engagement was something that was nowhere near my radar. He understood and proceeded to only ask questions about her likes. He never once wondered if we had looked at pricing, or if we had a budget. He made the entire visit about her. She tried many different rings on and he was extremely knowledgeable about offering tips and advice on what to pay attention to. Once we made it all the way around the cases, he had helped her to narrow down her choices to two bands. Then he proved his incredible knowledge about the industry again. He started to bring out diamonds simply to show her about the different sizes, clarity, color etc. It was after just a little bit of time that she was able to identify exactly what band and what type of diamond she liked with it. Like most men would, I started to panic a little feeling that the pressure might be on. After spending all of the time with her while I was simply taking in all of the knowledge he was sharing with us, he sent her away and told her to go look around. This was an opportunity for Josh to help calm the pressure of feeling like I was about to buy something. The only thing Josh asked about was if I had thought about proposing and, if so, when would be the ideal time. He never once pressured me with questions about well what if I could make you a great deal, would you consider it. He wrote down all of the information from her band and diamond preference so that I could have it when I came back and was ready to purchase. His understanding and respect that nothing was going to happen that day made me feel very sure about the fact that I would be coming back to see him when the time was ready. When the time came to finally purchase the ring, Josh was there when I walked in, ready to help. He remembered my fiance's and my names right away. I told him I was ready to take the plunge. It didn't take long to for him to blow me away with his incredible knowledge. I was having a blast looking at diamonds and learning about them as I looked. There came a moment when Josh had to step away from the consultation because he had to take care of another matter because of his managerial responsibilities. He left me in good hands with a female sales associate (I cannot remember her name) and she was just as helpful as Josh. I finally got around to purchasing the ring and he made it extremely easy to make the ring fit within a budget that was suitable for my situation. There is no doubt that he exhausted every option he had available in order to make sure that the final result of the purchase was what's best for me and not for his commission (because they dont work on commission). Without boring everyone with more of my story, I will simply say that there is no doubt that Josh and the rest of his staff at Shane Co. on Olive are the absolute best there is at making sure that everything you want comes to fruition and there is absolutely no pressure into buying something when you dont feel comfortable. read more
