One was cleaned, the other two brought about a price estimate to repair and buff (following a 30+ minute wait). The one had a loose-fitting prong that was catching on my wife's' clothing. They wanted money to repair it since the ring itself wasn't purchased there. The prongs, however, were purchased and installed at that very same store. Our friend is getting engaged! He was looking for some advice in selecting an engagement ring, and we were excited to help. A reason to look at diamonds? Sign me up! At first, we were looking at online sites like Blue Nile and James Allen, which had some great features like being able to see a 360 view of the diamond that you're considering. But there's something special about actually being able to go into a brick and mortar store and looking at the diamond and seeing it on a setting before purchasing it. All the jewelry stores we bought our engagement rings at in the past were in the Bay Area, so I figured we'd take our friend to Shane Co, since we knew we wanted to stay away from mall jewelers, who jack up their prices and don't have the best quality. When we first walked into this Shane Co. location, I was a bit disappointed by how young all their employees appeared to be. They looked like they were in their early 20's, and I was really hoping to find someone a little more experienced. We told the young employee the specs we were looking for: GIA-certified diamond, price range, clarity, cut, carat size, etc. A few minutes later, an older gentleman came out, greeted us, and told us he would be happy to help us. It turns out (we found out later), that customers are greeted by the younger staff, but if they ever have a customer who is more specific in what they are looking for, they ask different employees to wait on them. We were waited on by their top sales guy, Tom (same name as Tom Shane, who does the radio commercials we can all quote). He was fantastic. In the next hour or two, we found a beautiful diamond in our price range and specs. We were all thrilled, and we were impressed that we had such a smooth and enjoyable engagement ring buying experience. Tom had a great sense of humor and was really fun to talk with. We also learned about some great Shane Co. facts, like their lifetime warranty, and how they let you upgrade, as long as it's $1 more than your current ring. (Most places require you to double the amount you spent, in order to upgrade). This location is HUGE! The showrooms are big, and then they have a huge area for payments, picking up, and even a huge window where you can see on-site jewelers at work. If I could give a negative star I would. To start, my boyfriend and I are an interracial couple. We're both officers in the Army and have an acute sense of reading people and thier prejudices. I made an appointment to look at engagement/wedding rings at this location. I made it very clear in the comments that I was interested in Galaxy/Celestial or Salt & Pepper diamonds or Emeralds. Emerald or Hexagon cut and 2-3 carats. We have what we want online but wanted to see what it would look like in person. When we get there a woman asks us what we're looking for. I don't know why they ask THE SAME THING when making an appointment if they don't even bother use those notes for the appointment. So I had to REPEAT what I was looking for after finding out that they didn't have anything close to what I was looking for. I just rolled with what she was able to show for the sizing and look on my finger. So we started with a 2ct diamond emerald cut. She goes on about the specs and details of this diamond that I have no interest in buying because it was the complete opposite of what I said I was looking for. At this point we are 30min into the appointment and for whatever reason she just LEAVES us with the guy that checked us in...I was like really?! We didn't want to make a scene but we took offense and thought that was UNACCEPTABLE and completely UNPROFESSIONAL. The man was pretty aggressive and went into sales pitch mode but there was not a snow balls chance in hell that we would spend a penny after being dumped off 30min into a set appointment that's supposed to last for an hour. I wasn't going to repeat a THIRD time what we were looking for. Today was the first and LAST time we will set foot in that store. I have never been treated that way during a SCHEDULED CONSULTATION. We left SHANE Co. feeling insulted and disrespected. We went on to our next appointment at Kay Jewelers and Jenna helped us. She was much more WELCOMING, PROFESSIONAL with EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE. My fiancé purchased my engagement ring here a few years ago and we have had nothing but fantastic experiences since! I come in every six months for an inspection and cleaning and the staff are always quick, reliable, and very professional. When SIP went into effect, I was concerned because it overlapped with my 6-month cleaning. They assured me that I wouldn't be penalized for their precautionary closure. They are now open with temporary hours and seem to be doing an excellent job of following guidelines and safety measures. Today I used their curbside service for my inspection and cleaning. I pulled up in one of the marked spots and texted "curbside" to the given phone number. They then sent out an employee (wearing a mask) to take down my information and collect my ring (contactless collection with a box). Up until recently, our experience with Shane Co. has been nothing but perfect! We bought my engagement ring there, and the man who helped us was very professional and kind! To our surprise, when we went back to pick my engagement band on May 5th, the lady who helped us was very short with us and seemed annoyed. Having had experienced nothing but excellent customer service beforehand, I figured maybe it was a busy day for her. When I explained I was torn between bands, she asked why I didn't we just purchase both? While one of the bands I was looking at was very cheap (under $200) I was taken aback by her question. We ended up purchasing both vans and she pulled my fiancé side to ask him what he would like engraved on the inside of the band. We had never discussed engraving the rings, but since the opportunity was presented, he thought of something on the spot thinking it was a complimentary service. She never mentioned the cost of the engraving. To my fiancé's surprised, when he looked at the receipt, he saw that he had a needle in charge for the engraving. The cost of the engraving wasn't what bothered us, but the fact that she offered it without disclosing the price. Myself and my husband always had a positive experience exchanging rings or upgrading rings at Shane co until today. When we upgraded last time I got an additional beautiful diamond ring 14k gold. I tired it for over 4 months hoping it will no longer turn my finger black but it does. They say is from the chemicals in my skin but I've been wearing gold jewelry all my life and none did that before. Not sure if it has to do with the alloy since it's only 14 karat. Anyways, a real piece of jewelry that has the proper alloys should not be doing that to my skin. When I tired to exchange it with the same ring hoping that will be better they refused to help saying that it will do same thing. I was hoping it's a different batch and maybe my skin wouldn't get black. at this point I'm not sure what to think anymore. Maybe the ring doesn't have the proper gold % in it and that's why this happens. They said they will exchange it if I spend double the amount. Who would want to spend more on fake gold that turns fingers black. I attached a photo so everyone can see why they shouldn't buy gold here. I hope they can assist because I didn't spend a fortune on a 'real' ring that leaves this kind of marks on my skin just like a cheap $5 ring. I am writing on behalf of my finances experience and myself. Back in November we both decided to go browse at wedding rings at Shane Co. after being disappointed from other jewelry stores located at the mall. We were recommended to go there by my cousin who's gorgeous wedding ring was purchased from that exact location. Our intensions were only to confirm the style I wanted, which was a halo diamond ring. We were not expecting such a wonderful experience from the moment we set foot inside the location. I am sad to say that I don't remember the pleasant lady's name but she welcomed us and initially showed us around. She pulled all the stops when it came down to trying on the bands and showing us the different diamonds/settings. Not only that, but after I was set on my dream ring setting she handed us to a gentleman named Gabe. From then he educated us on the difference in Diamond/Clarity/Cut/Grade etc. I was entirely impressed and so happy with the customer service provided. My fiancé and I left the store without purchasing anything. Although little did I know that a month later he'd be planning a surprise engagement. He called the store to let them know that he was on his way to finalize the purchase after he'd initially made a down payment during our visit, unbeknownst to me, and that he needed the ring THAT DAY. The lady on the phone explained that there was no possible way and the soonest he'd be able to get it was the following Tuesday. He drove out there anyway, was greeted, and after speaking to Gabe and the Manager, they made it possible to have the ring ready by that afternoon without a fuss. He proposed the day after. The ring I currently have is gorgeous to say the least. It sparkles so much and I continuously receive so many compliments.
