Delicious and no nonsense service. Family friendly establishment. Chef Special Tofu - light crunch on the outside and fluffy pillows of tofu on the inside, a must order item. Sautéed Egg Plant - they did not have a beef ribs for the eggplant and beef rib clay pot so we pivoted to sautéed Egg Plant. The eggplant was tender and the flavor was so good. Baby Bok Choy and Chicken - Bok choy had good texture and the chicken was tender and moist... Good Dish Salt toasted Spare Ribs - I know it has salt in the name but it was a little too salty.

The food is cooked per order and its tastes wonderful. Definitely will try the short rib casserole and walnut shrimp on my next visit. If you come during the week it's very quiet and relaxing.

This Shanghai Restaurant 富仔記 has served me some great meals. That's why I have an upgraded opinion with this updated review. I came here one night looking for some home style dinner. It was cold winter in the middle of the week. I didn't know the closing time but I saw a couple still eating there. I ordered pepper ribs and a bowl of rice. I didn't think of anything but realized the employees are eating... Appeared to be eating dinner as end of their shift. Oh shoot I said. One employee came to me and said, "no hurry. You can stay until you're finished." Wow. So nice. Yeah. I hate to be rushed. It was actually my first-time dining in. I loved the decorations and those home feeling. No wonder it's been featured by Chow Down in Chinatown group many times. For the same reason I recommended my neighbor brought her family to dine here tonight. Because they took good care of me that night.

Best fried spare ribs in the city! Great veggies and excellent walnut shrimp. The hot and sour soup is also really great, different than anywhere else I've had. Awesome food, casual atmosphere, great service!

Love the food & services here. The basic typical stir fried beef with flat noodles here is delicious. (够锅氣 = Have the wok heat flavor) staff server Thuy is excellent in recommending great dishes. She is friendly & courteous. Will return next time when we are in Houston area again.

This place is always fantastic. I have never been disappointed with anything I have ever ordered here. I don't care where you live in Houston you need to get over here as it's not going to blow you away with how pretty it is inside it is definitely not an instagrammable place but that shouldn't be why you were going out testing food in houston. You need to visit Shanghai and get yourself some great food ASAP

If you try anything, you need the general tso's chicken, sweet and sour pork, and the fried spare ribs. Hands down the best! Seated immediately and they were able to accommodate a large party. Service was fast and staff were friendly. They came around often to refill drinks. Everyone enjoyed their food. Great portion sizes and great prices. You can tell this place has regulars and fills up quickly.

I've been dining here for almost 2 decades when their location was closer to Fiesta on Bellaire. I know the husband/wife owners as he is the chef while she manages the register. I remember seeing the chef on his wife beater shirt chatting with patrons while the wife never had a good attitude serving customers. There're a few other Cantonese restaurants throughout the years and I haven't been back since 2018 until yesterday. We were deciding where to have lunch and my husband pointed at Shanghai restaurant thinking they serve xialongbao. Well, their restaurant's name is mis-leading as it's a Cantonese restaurant and almost everyone speaks Cantonese. It has been a long time and I thought why not? The place was completely empty for a Sunday's lunch around 12:30 pm. The server greeted us with paper menus and seated us afterwards. I wasn't sure if they are still owned by the same couple but turned out yes! I saw their now adult son sitting in the back. We got a couple of rice plates: beef with bitter melon and fish filets with veggies. I also ordered their poached chicken (1/2 chicken) served cold and dip with ginger scallion sauce. Both rice plates tasted good; lots of rice but small portion in terms of proteins/veggies. The chicken dish was average but the ginger sauce helped. I love this and always get more in the past. I have never been charged extra for the sauce. Naturally, I asked for more. I was surprsied to see $1 for the ginger sauce. While I don't mind paying for it but think the waitress should inform us first. In addition, if the chicken has more flavors, we probably don't need so much sauce to eat with. Maybe we'll be back in a few years...

Food is great but there's hardly anyone eating in here which is a pity. Food does take a bit to come out though so be prepared to wait.

5 Stars - Authentic Szechuan that absolutely nails the classics…read more During our short trip to Houston, as a custom, we were determined to find real Szechuan food, and luckily we found Hu's Kitchen. The location is a bit unassuming, and parking is definitely tough (the spaces are very shallow), but the second we walked through the doors and smelled the Szechuan peppercorns, I knew we were in exactly the right place. I generally judge a Szechuan restaurant by their 夫妻肺片 (Fuqi Feipian)--which they cleverly name "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" on the menu. They completely nailed it. The beef, tripe, and tendon were incredibly cohesive together, yet you could tell each component was prepared and marinated in a slightly different way to perfectly highlight its specific texture. The chili oil was right on the spot. We went through a massive bowl of rice just eating this dish alone. Honestly, if I weren't feeding a family of four, I could have just ordered that and been perfectly happy. While the Fuqi Feipian proves their skill with dry dishes, the 水煮魚片 (Fish in Szechuan Hot Chili Oil) proves their skill with wet ones. It's another must-order. The execution was flawless--we didn't just finish the tender fish chunks, we ate every last piece of cabbage soaked in that incredible chili broth. For my two daughters who can't handle the heat, we ordered the fried rice, garlic pork ribs with onion, and the 紅燒獅子頭 (Giant Meatball with Cabbage). The giant meatball was spectacular. The kids completely devoured it on their own, but I managed to steal a bite, and it instantly brought back childhood memories of exactly how this dish is supposed to taste. We also had the Dan Dan Noodles, which were great and rounded out the meal perfectly. I loved all of the dishes we tried. Should we ever find ourselves in Houston again, we will absolutely be revisiting this hidden gem.

No complaints here since we were starving from an 8 hour road trip. The Dan Dan Noodles...I had high expectations but sadly this dish fell short. I recommend Hu's Cooking to use a bigger bowl and more sauce because it was difficult to mix the noodles and the sauce wasn't...saucing, unfortunately. I wish there was more flavor in this dish. The Scallion Pancake was super over-fried and oily. See image in my review. The outer parts of the pancake were fried to a crisp and only a small circumference in the center stayed chewy. I know Chinese tends to be oily but this pancake soaked up way too much oil. Half a Peking duck: super great price for so much meat. The difficulty when eating this dish is gnawing the meat off the sharp bones of the duck. Mapo Tofu with white rice: pretty easy staple, no complaints here. Dinner on a Saturday was packed but we got seated quickly and food arrived fast.

I knew it'd be busy since it's a Sunday and Father's Day. But there were groups and groups of people standing outside and inside. I checked in at the kiosk and apparently there were 34 people ahead of us. I was starting to think we wouldn't be seated till at least an hour or so, but surprisingly we only waited for 20 minutes. The server and employees pushing the carts were all friendly. I'd be honest though, when we were first seated I felt like there were a bunch of carts, meaning lots of selection. But after 10 minutes, it was hard to even find one person. So really, you don't got much to choose from. I think it'd have helped if there was a menu at the table, that way we can order more and see what else is there. The shrimp shao mai and crispy shrimp crab claw was top tier. Please do not leave without giving those two a try! You can skip the pan fried pork & chives dumplings. That was a letdown. I think food wise, I prefer Fung's Kitchen over Ocean Palace. While I have not regularly come here as there are other options, if you are looking for a fancier, glamorous time for this type of cuisine (while getting high quality food), this is definitely the spot. This is a great place for weddings, business meetings, and milestone celebrations. I can't speak on their normal course of business, but I just came here for my aunt's 90th birthday celebration as well as a company dinner, which featured a delicious king crab prepared three ways. The service was very attentive in our private room settings and the food was good. It's really the ambiance that sets this place apart. One thing that really has always prevented me from coming here is the price. It is the most expensive in town and while there are plenty of options that aren't as good, well, there are options. And at this point, I'm sure that is the crowd they are going after. So if you are wanting to celebrate something or you are wanting to step up your dimsum game, come on over. I'm sure we'll be back for a large family gathering at some point.
