Solid four stars. We really like this unassuming spot downtown. I am pretty crazy about their rock shrimp. Sushi is fresh and tasty. We don't go exotic here but the mainstream stuff is very good. We found this spot by accident and glad we did. Great lunch prices for the budget minded. The food was served as ordered. The sushi rolls are large, rice isn't dry and the salmon seems to melt in your mouth. Tuna avocado rolls are large and like the salmon rolls. The miso soup was served steaming hot and the ginger salad was a good size. I'd recommend this to others for sure. read more

One star because they deliver. Ordered scallion pancakes which were not so good but edible. Ordered general tso's tofu which was inedible. Soggy tofu in watery sauce eww, didn't eat it. Veggie fried rice was just over cooked mushy rice with no flavor, didn't eat it. I ended up sleeping hungry instead of eating this crap. Don't go here for good food, don't go here if you are in the area, don't go here if you want slightly crappy Chinese food, don't go here if you think Panda Express has good Chinese because comparatively Panda is amazing. So, we order from this restaurant usually every Sunday from the ER, which is a pretty large order. We have never had an issue until today. The delivery person was extremely rude and after she brought the many bags of food, told us they didn't want our business anymore, it was just too much of a hassle when we order! They were called after this was said on site in the ER, and the manager told us the same thing! Well, sorry we are busy saving lives and can't leave to get food! I thought businesses liked big orders that cost lots of money. Don't worry Shangri-La, our ER will gladly give our regular business to a place that appreciates it! No worries! read more

I have to say that I really started out liking this place. Even during Covid, I would order quite a bit. In the last couple of months things have changed drastically. I'm a very patient and understanding, and " in the know" person. So I truly get it if they are understaffed.. I'm not saying that they are( I don't know) , but, I took that into consideration during the not so pleasing service I've had with them a few times lately. They left out things on 3 delivery orders. No discount. I'm very patient and decided to forget it all. So, I ordered again. The Uber delivery called and said there was a problem with what I had requested. I had asked them to leave out a few things that I'm sensitive to ( as I've always done in the past). The employee got on the phone yelling at me! Third time is a strike for me. I would not recommend this business. ( I forgot to mention that I requested a discount for things missed on two previous orders.) I'm pretty sure this set them off. read more

Great if you like sugar poured all over your food. I've tried it twice. Surly staff served entrees literally drenched in sugar. The second time was pepper chicken where the sugar was so concentrated you could actually see the granules on the chicken pieces. Placed a take out order of teriyaki chicken, which we were able to literally eat one bite each. I tried it when my spouse said it was inedible. It was. I ordered the miso soup and chicken fried rice with an order of spring rolls. The spring rolls were good! The miso soup was like a liquid salt lick. It seemed it was made days before. There was no love or care taken in the preparation of our entrees. It is obvious whoever was in the kitchen, preparing the food could not possibly care one iota less. I don't know if they have given up or just don't give a flip. The chicken fried rice? Try to find even a thimble full of chicken in the whole container. I had "okay" experiences previously from here. Sadly, I am unsure we'll give it another try and certainly wouldn't recommend Shangri-La to family, business associates or friends after the experience we've had the last couple tries. Chinese food in chatt is hit or miss. When moved here we tried several disappointing takeout joints before we found shangri la and we will never go anywhere else. Sushi is good, but you have to try the sesame tofu and the mongolian beef. Food is always hot, fresh, and fast. Seriously I think it gets better every time we order. Open late during weekdays to my surprise. While the other burger joints nearby were crowded due to the concert nearby, we remembered this little place and thought we'd check it out. It looks like a lot of UTC students come here for take away or to dine in. I had the veggie lo mein with extra crispy tofu and it was really good! Veggies were broccoli & zucchini with a lesser amount of mushroom and onion. My friend had two sushi rolls and said they were both very good. A long time ago I ordered sushi and vegetable teppanyaki and remember being satisfied. Recently I ordered food on the Chinese side of their cuisine and was less impressed. I ordered the General Tso's chicken with fried rice and found the rice especially bland. The spring roll also lacked flavor and was pretty empty on the inside. Ordered the crab rangoon which was pretty standard. You do get a good portion of food though and the food was ready by the time they quoted. read more

This is a nice place and a welcome addition to the Chattanooga area. We are sorely lacking respectable Asian food here. There are several buffet style restaurants but I would recommend avoiding most all of them. There are a could sit down restaurants in Hixson but that's all. We tried a variety of items including appetizers, sushi and an entree. Everything was freshly prepared and tasty. I posted photos of everything. They do have a hot bar that you can pick an entree or two. We'll be back to try some other items soon! The service and cleanliness met expectations. Absolutely delicious food. I get the shangrila chicken combo with fried rice and it's to die for every single time - never misses! Their crab rangoons are also delicious, and I recently tried to steamed pork dumplings- as I expected, didn't let me down! Give shangrila a try if you're looking for takeout. I got the 2 roll combo for lunch with California Roll and Shrimp Tempura for $6.95. Great value! The portion amount is good and you get a salad with ginger dressing. So let's start with the good. .it is clean, which is important especially with sushi. Also the food is fresh. Another good aspect when dealing with sushi. So the bad is really my particulars.. but the rolls were not very tight. The rolls sort of come apart when you pick them up. Also there is really no way to customize your order because of they language barrier. They do have some hot meal combos that are very inexpensive. The hot food is good but not the best. This place slaps y'all. I always get salmon sashimi, wonton soup (so good my god), and either crab Rangoons or fried dumplings. I've had sesame chicken there. Beef and broccoli. Lo Mein. All of it has been exactly what I was hoping it would be. Super good American Chinese food and really reasonably priced sushi. I simply could not ask for more y'all. This restaurant is so reliable. Today was my first time trying Shangri-La, I got the sushi lunch special and a seaweed salad to go. The seaweed salad was great and generously portioned! The sushi was good, tasted fresh, but a little heavy on the rice and not tightly rolled. Overall the meal was good though, I would go again! read more

I travel the country for my occupation and take advantage of the local cuisine, always. A particular favorite cuisine is Chinese. Out of the over 200 restaurants i have been to this location not only had the worst service, but food was subpar and can tell it sat there for hours. The staff refused to answer any of my questions on the menu instead walked away rude. Not getting a "hello" or "how are you" is fine but to not want to ask questions on your menu is not the way a restaurant should operate. Then when i asked for a chicken upgrade on my rice the clerk suggested i didnt want it be cause it "cost more". Of course the statement simple but the tone was very suggestive. I order this everywhere restaurant, Implying i couldnt afford it. I insisted i wanted it she theb huffed and puffed finally punch in the order. The food was old you can tell, which I'll deal with but the service was the absolute worse and felt discriminatory. I have never had such terrible service, the city of Chattanooga should send in a few secret shoppers to reconfirm this review. Not bad at all... quick delivery and well packed and accurate. Seaweed salad, combo #3 sushi w/salad and miso soup, and ginger chicken (ordered medium heat). Either they didn't add any heat or not enough, but we didn't think it had any heat (spicy). But overall very satisfied. read more

As usual, was craving sushi and have never once been to Chattanooga so I did not know where to go. Came to TN with a group of 10 people for a club trip and the best choice was an AYCE cheap sushi place! This was my third AYCE sushi place, and it was not as good as the other two, but definitely a place to try out. The sushi itself was decent. The rolls were really large and the chef did not skimp on the amount of fish. In addition, all the hot food appetizers were tasty (our table had to of ordered over 25 of them)! The Kani salad was downright horrible. There was zero cucumber and the Kani was hardly cut up, just chunks of crabmeat. The soft shell crab roll was soggy and very cold unfortunately. Problems: the service was not good. Although our waitress was very polite and loved how excited our squad was with ordering food, she forgot three of our miso soups, two people's salads, and began to serve items like soup after we had our sushi. Also, I thought it was tricky/clever of them to bring out some of our appetizer dishes after we had eaten our sushi to try and catch us off guard to see if we were too full. Lastly, we had one team member who straight demolished sushi all dinner and probably had upwards of $90 worth of food to himself and she essentially cut him off by telling us to help him finish his food- that was just hilarious. Overall, I've had way fresher sushi elsewhere, especially the spicy tuna which was a little odd tasting. Not bad for TN sushi I presume! read more

I've always heard so much about their all you can eat sushi so my husband stopped in one night for dinner. The staff is friendly and welcoming and the restaurant is clean and spacious. My husband went with the all you can eat sushi but I played it safe and just went with the wonton soup and shrimp fried rice. The soup was tasty and the rice was average. I hear they do delivery so I might order from here to satisfy a Chinese food craving, but I'm in no rush to go back. The all you can eat sushi is really the best value here as the sushi selection includes sashimi, nigiri and a variety of specialty rolls and you also have options of ordering hibachi dishes, soups and salad. All those offerings for less than $20, you really can't go wrong. Just be aware of the penalty if you don't finish your plate! read more

If I can put zero stars I would. 3 of us came here to try their "All you can eat menu" that states: $17.95 per person. Only items on a specific menu can be ordered for the all you can eat and you plate must be empty for the next round if you decide to order and you have unlimited rounds. Only catch is that you will be charged $1 per piece additional charge for leftovers after 5 pieces. You can not share because if you do you will be charged at full price and you can not take your food to-go. This sounds reasonable and I accept. There is no small print anywhere or bill board of any kind that says anything else. My first round I ordered 7 pieces of tuna sashimi and 3 pieces of salmon sashimi. It was tiny minuscule pieces that would be perfect serving size for feeding my cat. I was not upset by that point. I understand that in a business that you don't want to lose much profit and since this was an all you can eat dine in shindig so I completely understand and was ready for round 2.... This is when it all went down hill. LEGIT. The waitress ( who was already very hard to understand and not friendly or approachable at all) which don't get me wrong. I have a mother who speaks English as a second language and I understand the language barrier and have her a pass. I order for round 2 15 pieces of tuna sashimi and 5 pieces of salmon sashimi and one egg drop soup which in all honesty could probably realistically equal to 5 pieces of sashimi. The lady started yelling and saying no you can order more than 10 pieces of sashimi. You have to order something else of the menu. And started yelling at me. I have NEVER been treated like that in my life and I've ate at many many restaurants. I felt disrespected and worst hungry. I came because I wanted to eat sushi and sashimi and all I got was a small small portion, yelled at and demeaned at a restaurant. I had to wait until my two guests finished their meal because of course they ate before me. I told the waitress when she was yelling at me that I will not paid for what I ordered because I never received my complete order. At the end they tried charging me full price of an all you can eat meal after everything that had occurred. Very rude and they told me if I don't pay to return the food I had consumed telling me basically to throw up the food. Never in my life I've been treated like this and I will never Ever come back to this location and try to be a consumer again. Worse place and service ever. read more

I ordered sweet and sour chicken. Order was wrong, which was an honest mistake. I wasn't upset. I stood there while they remade it and watched them yell at each other over the mistake. I got home with the "sweet and sour chicken". It consisted of rice snd chicken. No red bell peppers, no green bell peppers, no onions, no pineapple. It was literally just rice and chicken. If you want to stay open, treat your customers right. You can't cut corners forever. It simply was not Sweet and Sour chicken. It was rice and chicken.
