Cutest little shop in downtown Chillicothe! I went in at closing time, but they still had a register open to check me out. I picked a cinnamon roll (icing on the side) and a piece raspberry cheesecake. Unfortunately they were not to my liking. The cheesecake crust was very wet and moist, almost soggy. And the cinnamon roll for for my husband, he said it was very heavy and only took a bite and threw it away. Very disappointed as someone said they loved their cheesecakes, all of them! Cute shop, yummy cupcakes, and great friendly service! I was driving through the area and decided to bring some cupcakes in for my parents. After a quick search I found High Five Cakes that was on my way. Upon arrival I found meter parking close by. The shop was crowded for a Sunday (always a good sign) and I was warmly greeted when I walked in. There was a variety of cupcakes in the display cases and I picked up 7 cupcakes (a box of 6 and 1 for the road). I selected the Confetti, Death by Chocolate, Coconut Cream Egg, Strawberry, and Sugar Cookie Dough. Price point is $3 a cupcake which is a higher price point than I pay at similar shops in my metro area but was worth it. Besides love supporting small businesses and it's a really nice little shop. Made it a priority to get by High Five Cakes while visiting the in laws over Christmas this year & I had a great experience chatting with one of the employees behind the counter about the incredible amount of special order goodly cakes they had boxed & stacked around the shop waiting for pickup that day. Despite how busy she clearly was she gave me some hot tips about where to find some good imported candy in Cinci on my way back to Nashville which I greatly appreciated! I had an oatmeal cream pie while waiting for my father in law & wife to make it up the block. We bought a few seasonal cupcakes to take home as well. I ordered a Keylime cheesecake and a death by chocolate cheesecake which were in the case. They were both extremely dry tasteless and the death by chocolate tasted almost burnt. They want nine dollars for a slice of cheesecake but it's awful. They had one working so I had to wait for service. This is a nice little bakery in downtown Chillicothe. Most of their products are cupcakes or macaroons but they also make personal cakes and babe boba tea. This is my first time here and I really liked the space. I bought some macaroons and they were worth the $2 a piece! I've been to a lot of places to try macaroons and this place is one of my favorites. The texture of the macaroons are buttery and soft and slightly sweet. Most places I've gotten macaroons are usually very sugary and have that stiff sugar texture. These were way better and tasted like a fluffy pastry with butter in the batter. read more

Yay!! High Five Cakes has finally opened! They've been opened for over a week now and have been quite busy the two times I visited. They have an assortment of baked items ranging from different types of croissants, pastries, fruit/creamy tarts, macarons, and their house favorite, their oatmeal creamed pies. They also have... [drum roll]......... Bubble tea with a good list of flavors! The also have other various drinks too! I need to really take a look at what all they have and am excited they're in the area! I've had the creamed pies, fruit tarts, chocolate tart, and chocolate chip croissant with hazelnut cream filling. They are all wonderful! I've also had their Lavender black tea with bubbles (tapioca pearls) too and although the tea/flavor was refreshing, their tapioca pearls was ehh, average and maybe a bit coagulated together. Some tips: - they make their baked goods usually in the morning and whatever they have is what they got for the day. It's best to come earlier to see their selections before they sell out! - they are going through the growing pains of a new business -- communication, flow of logistics and operations, figuring out all their stuff. - their bubble tea is alright (though maybe I'm spoiled). The tea is flavorful but the tapioca is average/not the easiest to slurp as they're a bit coagulated together. I didn't ask if they can adjust the sweetness/sugar as a lot of bubble tea places can. Friendliness: 5 Assortment/originality: 5 Taste: 5 Cleanliness: 5 Bubble Tea: 3.5 Price: 4 Overall with the location, newness, and figuring things out, I'd give them 4.5/5 or a 5 star! Who else has a sweet tooth, like me? If you raised your hand, you are in luck. Located on Main St, is the cutest cake shop called High Five Cakes. I have the biggest, sweet tooth so any bakery sighting is always a win. While visiting Chillicothe, I was super happy to come across this bakery. When we walked in, we were greeted by friendly staff and the most welcoming ambience. It screamed girly, cute, come in with your girls, cake shop. It even had the cutest kid area that was cut out into the wall. The colors and decor were warm and modern, the kitchen was an open concept and the smell of the desserts won us over. I ordered three cupcakes and a Salted Caramel Bacon Brownie. MMMMMM! Yes, it was as good as it sounds. The cupcakes flavors I ordered were Caramel Apple, Strawberry, and Vanilla. I also met the owners Stef and Shana. They call themselves S&S. Stef has been on the Food Network competing in a few cake competitions before such as Duff Till Dawn. I love having a high end bakery in Chillicothe. The store is very clean and decorated in a modern friendly way. The French macarons are perfectly baked, no small task since macarons are tricky, and have the perfect macaron chew. My favorite is lavender, but everything I tried was delicious. Lovely little bakery and tea shop. I was traveling for business and stopped in. The macaroons were delicious. The lemon was especially yummy. They have this little board on the wall where you can pay for a cupcake or treat and then add a card with who you would like to give the treat to. A firefighter, policeman, veteran, working mom. This review got a bit longer than I expected. So if you are not the type for a long read, in short: Don't miss out. You have to give High Five Cakes, Bakery & Tea House a visit. I do not work for High Five, neither do any of my family members, nor am I paid by anyone. I am a local to the area and long time customer. I keep coming back for the reasons below. Whether you are a local to the area, or just stopping through, you cannot pass by High Five without getting some treats. There is something for any picky eater, traditionalist, or someone who wants to try something completely new. Every item you purchase is a work of art, but tastes like a piece of heaven. The staff there are extremely kind, polite, and somehow act like they are having a blast even when the store is a busy maelstrom of chaos. My first experience with them was actually before there was a High Five location downtown. Sarah, one of the owners, was doing cake tastings at a Chillicothe wedding expo in early 2011 that featured local businesses. My fiance and I were looking for wedding cakes for that fall, and once we tasted her samples, we knew we had to get her to do ours for taste alone. Then we looked at her cake designs and were absolutely blown away. Our wedding cake was a huge hit, and her cakes quickly became a family tradition. Less than a year later we got a gender reveal cake, then baby shower, and then regular birthday cakes every year. Not to mention a few works of art that we were lucky enough to taste at local charity events. This past June our kids got their 8th birthday cake from High Five. If you scroll through their facebook photos, you can find a history of our kid's birthday cakes. When they decided to open their store in downtown Chillicothe, we were nervous. Would quality suffer? What would this mean for our family tradition? Ha! Little did we know a new family tradition would emerge. The bakery is centered basically in the "heart" of Chillicothe's charming downtown, where families can make a day of visiting. There are all kinds of cool boutiques (my fav is The History Store), candy store (Grandpa Joe's!), ice cream shop (Highland's), and numerous amazing local eateries that I am so thrilled to see emerge in the downtown district. High Five is the kind of place that helps grow a community. More than once we have made plans to just stop by the bakery to pick up a few things on a Saturday, and end up spending half the day downtown visiting the different shops because there are so many neat things to do. The Bakery itself is cozy without being cramped, and stylish without being pretentious. There are large display cases that show all the yummy treats for the day, and the staff are always happy to explain an item if you've never had one before. This happens a lot, in my case. There is even a small Kids Nook with toys for the little ones. So you can relax a bit, eat your treat(s) and drink some bubble tea while they play. Maybe even chat a bit with the workers/owners if they aren't busy (rare, but it happens). I recall one time I was chatting awhile with one of the owners' spouses who made the mistake of opening up the store before they were ready and got drafted into working a partial shift as a consequence. So the treats! It is hard to even know where to begin. Each visit is like coming in for the first time. Every time I'm like a little kid, almost running to see what is in the display case and reminding myself to not press my face against the glass. I never have to worry that there won't be anything I like. Nearly every time I visit I can get my staple oatmeal cream pie and/or nutterbetters. But there are so many new things to try each day that I can't resist trying one of the new cupcakes or cheesecakes. Nothing at High Five is mediocre. Like my oatmeal cream pies above, they often take a "baked good" you might find in a plastic wrapper at a local gas station, and somehow completely reinvent and elevate it into a fancy gourmet item that you would never expect to find in small town Chillicothe, Ohio. If there is a theme to High Five, that would be it. Reinvention and elevation to maximum potential. It is so much fun reading their Facebook page. You know something good is in the works if they complain about making it. Just be careful scanning backwards on their page like I did for this review. It may spur another impulse trip to the bakery. To wrap it all up: High Five is a family staple. If we go too long without a visit, our kids start begging for a trip there. It is the type of place we are lucky to have locally, and we absolutely need to support so that we can continue to have good things. Give them a visit! read more

I can not say enough good things these cupcakes are to die for and I'm pretty sure they are served in heaven!!!! I can understand why they fly off the shelves!!! We were here an hour after opening and they were already down by half. The frosting is light fluffy and delicious and the cake is moist!! And when it says orange or lemon cake you know it!! But the death by chocolate was a household favorite I really enjoyed the crispy chocolate pieces on top!!! We will be respecting customers every chance I get!!! read more

This place gets three stars primarily for lack of organization/poor communication. I got a birthday cake a year ago from High Five Cakes that was lovely and have been gifted some other products (macarons, etc.) that were also great, so their actual products are quite good. However, there has been more than one instance where we tried to go to the store ... and it was closed. No alert on the website about early closure or special hours, no sign in the window. Just a locked door with the front lights off but sometimes several people clearly visible in the back. The last time was a Thursday at 11 AM -- we paid for parking and walked over to find the store dark and locked with the usual hours posted indicating the store should be open. Another couple came up after us and the woman was very disappointed, we overheard her saying they drove to Chillicothe (from Portsmouth or somewhere further south) specifically to go to the store and was upset they had made the trip for nothing. It's not a long drive for us, but because we've been let down a few times we won't go back. If they just kept the website updated and posted the hours properly, this wouldn't happen. read more
