At one point she even pulled out a physician's encyclopedia-type book and showed me illustrations about a skin condition I've been struggling with. I left feeling empowered and had a newfound respect for medical professionals. After a trip to Belize, I went to urgent care twice and was ultimately hospitalized for a little bug bite on my back. I had half a dozen doctors look at the bite, and every one of them had a different prognosis. When I finally went to Dr. Charles to follow up after the hospital visit, she took one look at my bug bite and immediately knew what the culprit was. I was furious at the other docs that didn't listen when I told them I'd gone to Belize and had numerous mosquito bites. One of them even suggested it was an ingrown hair (highly unlikely and borderline insulting). I was so impressed that Dr. Charles immediately knew I had a botfly and a week later I was healthy, bug-free, and once again awestruck by her knowledge. Last but not least, Dr. Charles always remembers me as if we're good friends, recalling details of my personal life and asking me how I've been since we last met. It's always unnerving to go to the doctor's office... unless Dr. Charles is your doctor.

I absolutely agree with the other comments that since UnitedHealthcare/Optum purchased New West Physicians, it has become nightmare of incompetence. I was referred to a specialist on February 25, 2025 by Dr. Kylie Beukema (wonderful MD!) and I'm STILL waiting to even get an initial appointment 6 months later due to miscoding my condition multiple times!! By the way, she left the practice in March, no surprise there. 1.The referrals are not handled in house and the phone contact you are given often leads you to a full voicemail or doesn't connect at all. 2. They only want to refer you to Optum contracted physicians 3. Front of office staff has actually lectured me rudely for being frustrated with my situation while my condition deteriorates!! 4. I'd spoken to Corbett, the regional manager in early July and he assured me there would be correction of my situation (spoiler, he now doesn't return my call) 5. The phone number they give in the canned responses to these reviews leads you to a healthcare conglomerate in Nevada with no humans on the line. 6 months with no ability to set up an appointment with a needed specialist while my condition rapidly deteriorates is malpractice and malfeasance. Arbor Family Medicine has been my PCP for about 10 years. Ever since they were swallowed up by a…read morelarger company, it's a struggle just to get someone to answer the phone. I am always on hold for no less than ten minutes. Even when given the option to save my place in the queue so someone can call me back, I never get a call back. This is incredibly frustrating. This NEVER happened when they were an independent operation. Typical "enshittification"...as businesses consolidate and are swallowed up by larger entities, patients and customers become numbers, and the customer experience is put on the back burner. This is what I'm seeing everywhere, and Arbor Family Medicine is the latest casualty. This review is solely regarding the experience of trying to communicate with the front desk. The level of care my family and I receive from the medical professionals has consistently been excellent.
