I had a long list of health questions and possible ailments and she patiently listened to me and took the time to thoughtfully discuss everything I brought up. At one point she even pulled out a physician's encyclopedia-type book and showed me illustrations about a skin condition I've been struggling with. I left feeling empowered and had a newfound respect for medical professionals. After a trip to Belize, I went to urgent care twice and was ultimately hospitalized for a little bug bite on my back. I had half a dozen doctors look at the bite, and every one of them had a different prognosis. When I finally went to Dr. Charles to follow up after the hospital visit, she took one look at my bug bite and immediately knew what the culprit was. I was furious at the other docs that didn't listen when I told them I'd gone to Belize and had numerous mosquito bites. One of them even suggested it was an ingrown hair (highly unlikely and borderline insulting). I was so impressed that Dr. Charles immediately knew I had a botfly and a week later I was healthy, bug-free, and once again awestruck by her knowledge. Last but not least, Dr. Charles always remembers me as if we're good friends, recalling details of my personal life and asking me how I've been since we last met. It's always unnerving to go to the doctor's office... unless Dr. Charles is your doctor.

My experiences with the staff and providers have often felt dismissive and uncaring. Rather than feeling listened to and supported, I have frequently felt brushed off and judged. At times, I have overheard conversations and witnessed interactions that made me uncomfortable and gave me the impression that patients' personal situations were being discussed in an unprofessional manner. I have also been frustrated by unexpected charges and bills that were not clearly explained beforehand. Better communication regarding costs and billing would go a long way toward building trust with patients. I have been dealing with an ongoing health issue that has caused significant anxiety, and when I sought help, Dr. Hill made me feel as though I was wrong for coming in and expressing my concerns. Instead of feeling supported, I left feeling discouraged and unheard. What was once a welcoming and compassionate practice no longer feels that way. Patients deserve to feel heard, respected, and cared for, especially when dealing with ongoing health concerns. And when I had questions, I used the messaging app online, and my doctor was very responsive. I've been back two more time since the initial visit for follow up blood work and exams. And the most I've ever had to wait was about 10 minutes, and everyone has always been friendly and nice. My partner had to call a few times to speak to people, and there was an annoying game of phone tag involved with getting a hold of his doctor on the phone. But, that's really the only slightly negative thing I can think of. It's been great so far!

I am always on hold for no less than ten minutes. Even when given the option to save my place in the queue so someone can call me back, I never get a call back. This is incredibly frustrating. This NEVER happened when they were an independent operation. Typical "enshittification"...as businesses consolidate and are swallowed up by larger entities, patients and customers become numbers, and the customer experience is put on the back burner. This is what I'm seeing everywhere, and Arbor Family Medicine is the latest casualty. This review is solely regarding the experience of trying to communicate with the front desk. The level of care my family and I receive from the medical professionals has consistently been excellent.
