The shop footprint is massive! So to set expectations, the ice cream shop is new and just getting started. So the space is far larger than what is currently needed for the ice cream counter. The business is run by a mom and daughter and they plan on adding a full coffee bar and soda fountain with video and arcade games in the back. For now it's just ice cream and they had about 2 dozen flavors - all the usual suspects like salted caramel, mint chocolate chip, java, Rocky Road, etc. Prices are very reasonable - 1 scoop is $3.95 with each additional scoop costing an incremental $2. With so many gourmet ice cream shops in Portland that sell one scoop for $6.95, this felt like a bargain! On a hot summer day, my waffle cone with a scoop of salted caramel and a scoop of java was just the refreshing treat I didn't know I needed! Oh, and service was super friendly, offering tastes and serving with a smile! Small town charm as it should be. Clearly the owners intend for this to be a warm and welcoming place for friends and families to gather with affordable offerings and fun activities. Once their plan materializes, I hope it will become a destination spot and not feel like a take out ice cream shop in a massive space. For now four stars, but I will definitely go back and re-evaluate when the coffee bar opens.

And it has. The line was out the door and down the sidewalk by 3pm, easy thirty minute wait, and nobody seemed to mind. That tells you something before you even taste the food. We ordered the double bacon cheeseburger, and it did not disappoint. Real griddled beef, two patties, melted cheddar doing exactly what melted cheddar should do, crisp lettuce, all of it stacked on a sesame bun that held together through the whole ordeal, which matters more than people think when you're eating standing up in a parking lot with a dog giving you the full guilt trip. Speaking of: we took our food down to the park by the lake, picnic tables under the trees, and Willow, our English lab, decided that burger was the single most important object in the entire state of Oregon. Nose right up against it, patient as a saint, working every angle. She didn't get any. She deserved some. That's the tension of loving a good dog and a good burger at the same time. Prices are fair for what you get, hamburger starts under seven dollars, the shakes and soft serve looked like the real draw for half the line, and the menu board out front covers everything from tater tots to Italian cream soda, which is a detail I did not expect and now can't stop thinking about. If you're passing through Cascade Locks, Eastwind Drive-In is worth the wait. Bring cash patience, bring an appetite, and if you bring a dog, be ready to share eye contact you won't win.

The High Tension, their club favorite, was a full bodied blend of Syrah, Merlot and Barbera. A perfect everyday drinking wine And good for parties where you need a wine that pleases many palettes.The other standout for me was the Barbera. Very smooth, full body and slightly jammy. Since I'm in a Barbera club at Cascade Cliffs, I left with the Locomotive. I'm looking forward to a warm spring day to sit in my deck and enjoy with friends. The tasting room inside is small and simple. A picnic tables and seats out in the paved area out front, nice on a sunny day. I'll definitely be back.

He also does everything from wedding cakes to treats for special events, like the Huckelberry Festival. He also uses seasonal fruit fillings so look for raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, pineapple, or the illusive huckleberry to make appearances in the sumptuous muffins and scones. Speaking of scones, you must try them, and at $1 they are half price and on par with what you'd find at a Starbucks or more upscale bake shop. All the quality and half the price, my kind of place! To some locals that are comparing the prices to the local supermarkets, ok it's a little more expensive, but you cannot compare these fresh baked, quality treats with a Rosauer's donut or packaged cookies. Plus, if you buy your pastries for your Sunday church socials from Angel, you are supporting and keeping your money in the local community. You are helping your parisioners/ neighbors and creating jobs in the Gorge - and saving in gas and bridge tolls!
