We came here TWICE during our stay at the Postcard Cabins down the road! The bread is RIGHTEOUSLY delicious! I am considering driving back out there for the granola alone!!! During our first visit, we arrived kind of late, and there was only one loaf of bread left, and two small baguettes, and so we bought everything they had and a couple coffees and a chai latte to take with us to the cabin. That ended up being an incredible choice because the baguettes made amazing grilled cheese sandos in our little kitchenette, and the rye bread was a hit for breakfast with avocado. The chai was delicious and the coffee was stellar. We stopped back in for lunch on our way back home, and had yummy breakfast sandwiches that were delicious! My croissant breakfast sandwich was next level with delicious bacon and flaky, buttery croissant deliciousness that I would have once more in a heartbeat! It's a lively little joint, located in the great part of town , with wonderful young folks running the place and a great mix of tourists and locals. read more

Best bakery I've ever been to and, if you're visiting the Columbia River Gorge, you must stop here. Every item we ordered was a hit, from the danish, cookie, avocado toast, to the breakfast sandwich. There will likely be a line out the door but it's worth the wait. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating options. We even brought our pup. Staff are friendly and super fast! One of my favorite bakeries! My husband and I always have to stop here when we're driving through on our way to a hike. They have a lot of fun and unique pastries, delicious bread, and incredible ambiance (insane views of mount hood from the outdoor seating). Everything I've tried has been amazing, some of my favorites being the olive loaf, rosemary sticky bun, parsnip date cake, butterscotch blondie, rhubarb hand pie, and the chocolate hazelnut babka! The pastries with interesting flavor combinations. As we had already eaten a large breakfast, we got the ginger cookie. It was absolutely delicious - crispy on the edges, soft and chewy in the middle. The sugar crystals on top gave it the right amount of sweetness to the robust flavor of the molasses and ginger. So good! The drinks are equally great - robust and rich. The macchiato was one of the best and the matcha is fantastic as well. The smoked salomon was "good" but the croque madame was "AMAZING" and I would get it again. While I was there I also purchased the white rustic sourdough which I have no regrets about. Good pastries, delicious, but I'm upset at how I see these pastries being treated here. The pastry enclosure was packed full will all kinds of pastries crammed together in one space. This is so out of date. Maybe this was fine back in the day before the Sinclair Dino was petrified and cloned but nowadays we understand that enclosures need ample space and the environments should be species specific. The only gf & dairy item they had available also has nuts:(. You order at the counter, and find your seat, where your food will be delivered to you. When visiting the Hood River area, White Salmon Baking Co has been a popular place showing up on my Yelp. Just something to note coming from the OR side that there is toll coming to and from so account for the $5 in toll when you plan to visit here. It's in the cute shop area and surprisingly have a couple parking spots. Be sure to come early on a weekend since it gets packed inside and pastries may be sold out. By the time I came I just ended up taking pastries to go but the made to order items smelled good as well. As for the pastries, I got a box with the cardamon bun, pistachio bun, and savory croissant. All items were delicious and had a great flakiness to them. They had good balance with the flavors and were not overly sweet. read more

Lunch for two here yesterday. Busy place. I like the atmosphere - if you're here at the right time you can watch the bakers at work. Nice selection of pastries and breads, but I had the pulled pork sandwich special and my wife had the Tuscan bean soup with sausage which came with a couple slices of baguette so we at least got a chance to sample 2 of their breads. Both were very generous portions, good value for the price. My sandwich was flavorful and the bread it was on was excellent but a little over-toasted, it tore up the roof of my mouth a bit. The soup was excellent, but be forewarned it had some pretty good heat to it. We are here for a couple of weeks so we'll be back to try some of their wonderful-looking pastries! read more

Went for a late lunch yesterday. Ordered the breakfast salad. It was good except the soft boiled egg (with a very runny yolk) was cold. Gross. They offered to bring me another that would be fresh and warm. I said okay. They came back and said never mind they're out or soft boiled eggs, they could bring me a hard boiled egg. I said no thanks. Another thing is their kombucha on tap, no matter what flavor, always has a little vomit flavor in the after taste. Popular bakery in the heart of White Salmon, OR! On this Saturday morning, there was a line of people waiting at the door just before they opened at 8:00am. It's not a big bakery but there's an outdoor patio and decent room inside. The staff was quick to get through their first rush of customers. Their baked goods taste just as incredible as they look. This is a small community with some real gems and the White Salmon Baking Co is no exception. It's hard to go wrong here with your choice and the views of Mount Hood from the patio are breathtaking. I'm a big fan of the baguette sandwiches and the cold-brew coffee. That being said, if you are visiting and it's busy please don't be rude to the staff here. I know it's hard to wait sometimes, but it's totally worth it. This place can get slammed and all it takes is a little kindness on the customers side to keep the positivity flowing for everyone involved. Stopping for breakfast at White Salmon Baking Co was a fabulous decision. I had the deluxe breakfast sandwich, my husband the spinach-feta pastry, and for good measure we split a cardamom bun. The breakfast sandwich was a treat! The croissant it came on was bigger than expected and wonderfully flaky, the egg perfectly runny, and the arugula gave it a nice peppery kick. Husband said he love the spinach-feta pastry. The cardamom bun was nicely spiced, not overly sweet and just the right combo of crispy and sticky. As we enjoyed our meal, we ogled our neighbor's decisions. The huckleberry coffee cake seemed like a particular hit. However I purchased some olive rosemary bread after asking if there were lots of olives and was told, " Yes, it's my favorite, it is full of olives". I've been going here for years, usually about once a week. I love most everything on offer, the warm community vibe, and sitting outside when its sunny. But... I think its time to do some QA/QC on the scones. In recent months the scones seem to have declined in quality, to the point where I won't buy another one. I used to head over for opening just to make sure I could get maple bacon scones before they disappeared. The cheddar chive was also fantastic. Now they seem dry and without much flavor. The pecan chocolate one this weekend was a new low. Couldn't detect pecan, overall flavor was bland. Its not just me, I still enjoy scones from other bakeries, and my spouse has the same experience. read more

Boy, I can understand how this bakery is so busy it's really the only bakery in town so I get it. Look, the baked goods are excellent. So high marks for them in this respect. Low marks for service. Judas Priest, they act like we're invisible and the baristas never smile. Literally - never. The coffee pot was empty. I handed it to the angst-ridden barista. "Is it empty?" she said. The coffee in the pot is a local bitter coffee, so it's not my style. I prefer softer, more flavorful coffee. But they do a bang up business back there with prepared coffee drinks so perhaps that's the way to go. So if you're looking for great baked goods this is the place. It's busy. If you want great coffee, a nice smile when you approach the counter, and really good breakfast foods, go to Nativ down the street. Super friendly there! The cardamom buns are Heavenly! Oh, my! The laminated croissant dough is rolled and baked in a muffin tin. It's buttery and just slightly sweet, with some sugar caramelizing on the bottom. The addition of cardamom is a sophisticated add and the slight hint of this spice really adds a wow factor. It was so good that after eating it, I had to buy another to take home. Yes, that's right - had to! Seriously, it was that good. I could wax poetic about the cardamom buns all day, so let me move onto some other items In their phenomenal pastry counter. Trust me, while you may stop in for coffee or breakfast, it would take incredible will power to pass on at least one of these items. They are all next level! The ginger molasses cookies are divine! Unlike most ginger cookies that are flat, this cookie is thick and the flavors are on point. The choColgate chip hazelnut scone is so buttery with just the right amount of chocolate and hazelnuts. They are there, but don't dominate letting the scone itself shine. The chocolate croissants have the same buttery, flaky dough as the cardamom muffin and it envelopes the delicious chocolate. So good, even better if heated so the chocolate melts. The baguettes and bread are fabulous too. Crunchy in the outside and a great chew on the inside. Coffee, chai and tea to order. Plus sandwiches, both breakfast and lunch versions, served on their bread. The breakfast sandwich of egg, bacon, avocado and arugula with aioli was good, but definitely very light on the filling. Needed two eggs and a lot more bacon for $9.99 imho. I ordered my breakfast sandwich with the egg scrambled because I don't like the taste of egg whites. The sandwich arrived with a fried egg and when I mentioned it to the cashier, she argued with me and said I specifically ordered a fried egg. Hhmmm. If the sandwich comes with a fried egg, why would I request it? I made a request for scrambled since that was a customization. They did remake the sandwich but I would have preferred less attitude. Communal seating inside at large and small tables with a view of the bakers doing their magic. Plus a patio out back with heaters. Patio is fabulous in the warmer weather. read more

This bakery was a little lackluster for us, sad to say. The location is great and has a cool semi-open kitchen where you can watch the bread bakers shape and bake their loaves. But we were not super impressed with the products. The chocolate croissant was heavy and dense and the lamination wasn't the best. The chocolate sea salt cookie had a nice bake on it but was lacking in flavor all around. The apricot walnut sourdough didn't have what we thought was enough inclusions and were disappointed. We had a sandwich that was just ok but the baguette was descent. The coffee was ok but nothing to write home about. I appreciate how lovey everything looked in their display case, there is a lot of care that goes into that place for sure, I'm just sad it's not reflected in the final products. read more
