I had a make up trial done for my wedding. Overall, she is very sweet but the make up she applied on me was not anything that I would want for my wedding. I don't have anything that new to add, but I just had a one-hour makeup lesson courtesy of Living Social with Amanda, who was super super nice and sweet. Amanda is extremely nice and totally non-judgmental about whatever quality of anything you bring in (or however little of it) and was very understanding about my lack of confidence with makeup. She went over techniques, products, colors, etc. And they write everything down for you so you can recreate at home, though of course I couldn't do it as nicely as she did it. The worksheet could probably use a little bit of work, but it's pretty good. She also absolutely didn't put any pressure on me to buy stuff, though of course I did. She focused on the things that I should start with and put the stuff that's not a priority out of the way. Great great great, and I would def go back for another lesson to tackle some of the harder stuff! read more

I highly recommend this make-up studio for anyone who wants to improve on their make-up application skills. I had a 1.5hr make-up session with Jennifer and she was absolute amazing! She explained the technicalities of applying make-up very well and gave good advice on make-up products. She did one side of my face and explained every step of the make-up application process in detail, and then gave me an opportunity to replicate what she did on the other side. She created a very friendly and comfortable atmosphere and never asked me to do anything that I was uncomfortable with, which was a big relief since I'm only an entry-level make-up user. Even though it was only a 1.5hr session, it was a great investment as I will be using the skills that I obtained from this studio every day of life. read more

I got a gilt city coupon after seeing such great reviews and was not disappointed. I had the eye brow + make up class with Danielle and she was awesome. I don't like using a lot of make up and she listened and we did day to night looks that can be pretty minimal and neutral to more vamped up look. She does 1/2 the face and then I did 1/2. and she gave me notes to take away which was helpful. She was very nice and not pushy about selling anything at all - which I loved. I ended up buying a bunch 'cos I liked how they looked. I also got some extra color for a blacktie I was going to few weeks later. I did my own make up and it looked great. It was very personal and laid back - she was not in a rush and I felt like she actually wanted to teach me things I'd use (vs. oh do this and that that are not practical for day to day). I plan to go back some time to get more colors and get a "refresher" and more tips. The only thing I'd like to see going forward would be more eco-lines since I'm trying to switch to organic lines but their make up and colors look so nice (I think it helps that she helped me pick the colors that'd look good) I get them anyway :) read more

I purchased a 60 minute makeup lesson from a local deal website and I have to say I was blown away with everything from the time I booked my lesson( I knew I would be unable to use prior to expiration and they were able to work with me) to the actual lesson and products. First Shara and Amanda were extremely welcoming and listened to my concerns and needs for the lesson. Shara applies makeup and then gives you a try after each step. I was pleasantly surprised when i received written step by step instructions to take home. Also Shara incorporated my products within the lesson and let me know which of my brushes could be used as substitutes. Now on to makeup.... I have never in all of my years found a liquid foundation to match my skin tone and Shara did it on the first shot. My makeup was fresh and natural (which i requested) and Shara worked with me to address my areas of concern. I have had my makeup done professionally numerous times for events but I have never felt so beautiful in my whole life. At the end of the lesson the team will remind you that all products are available for purchase however there was no push to purchase At ALL. At one point I even asked for suggestions for alternatives from the drug store for skin care and she was more than willing to provide her opinion on good, low cost products. Products themselves are extremely reasonably priced as you will definitely pay more on similar products at Sephora/Macy's. I will definitely be recommending a lesson to my family and friends! Danielle did a makeup lesson for my teenage niece. It was a big hit. She taught her a lot of basics and the method seems very effective. Danielle did one side of her face for each step then my niece did the other side herself. This worked well. My niece loved it.. I did buy some stuff but it wasn't expensive and I in no way felt pressured to buy anything. I can say for sure I'll be back with this niece, because she wants to go again. read more

We scheduled 2 simultaneous appointments for a 'girls' day out. We were greeted by the salon's owner and was graciously treated while we waited ( just a short time) for our appointments. I have to admit that I was skeptical as none of us have ever done this before and were nervous that they would be very pushy selling their own product line. What a surprise. Both young women were so patient and supportive the whole time. We brought our own makeup so we were able to learn what worked vs. other suggestions that might work better. The ladies were so friendly and we laughed a lot. We all learned great makeup tips and could have stayed all night as we had such a nice time with them. In the end we were all very pleased with the end result and received really good advise about doing different techniques at home. There was no 'hard' sell for their products but I was anxious to try some of them as they seem to be more natural and less harsh on my skin. I was especially impressed with their beeswax mascara as I have been looking for years for some that did not irritate my eyes. Thanks for a wonderful experience at your studio. After explaining I wanted to be taught how to apply false eyelashes and told no problem, all make-up artists can do this, I paid for the session. Then after a few hours I get an e-mail saying they could NOT provide me with this service I specifically asked for and wanted. What's the deal? I want my money back right away! Just had to share an amazing experience I had and pass along to any of you busy mommas who can really benefit from her....I found myself running around all day and then having plans at night and not being able to transition from day to night (I am also totally incompetant when it comes to doing my make up). I've been getting my eyelashes done for years and was referred to Shara by my former makeup artist when she was moving out of NY. I was devastated when my gal left because I have used several artists/salons for lashes in the past and am almost never satisfied (I am a total perfectionist and no one seems to be as precise as I like). Shara blew my expectations out of the water. She is so precise with her lash placement (no gooey residue, every lash perfectly aligned), and her lashes & glue are top quality. They last for weeks and no one is able to tell that I am wearing false lashes, my eyes just look naturally gorgeous!! I HIGHLY recommend Shara for lashes. I had an appointment on Saturday with Danielle for a lesson. She was very sweet and attentive, but most important to me was that she listened to me. I was really candid about why I was there and how I am an extreme minimalist with makeup, but wanted a few tips and tricks for special occasion looks. She really focused on that, and stayed true to what I wanted, and then also showed me how to kick it up a notch when I wanted to. Booking was easy, the studio was clean and bright, and the products and tools were sanitary. I had a really good experience, and my only regret is that I didn't find them sooner. I will definitely be back for some special events, and think that a lesson would make a great Sweet 16 gift for my nieces. I highly recommend them! read more

All I can say is WOW. I'm not a novice when it comes to makeup but after reading all the great reviews on Shara, I decided to try out the Groupon and WOW. First off, I didn't feel like a Groupon client. She was so warm and made me feel like her attention was solely on me, asking what I was doing now, what kind of look I wanted to try - when I booked my appointment with Shara I was hoping to maybe learn a few tricks to amp up my routine but I walked out of there learning so much more about what was going on in my makeup bag (my concealer was WAY too dark and was exaggerating my undereye circles) and better techniques to play up my best features (black liner on the inner rim made my eyes pop, applying mineral foundation to get the flawless look instead of the concealer/liquid/powder combo that was coming off as cakey before)... I got the mist and the mineral powder and a white liner (makes your eyes look even bigger when you line on the inside) and walked away a very very very happy gal. I plan on using Shara for any weddings or special occasions that come up, she is the real deal and totally worth it when you see the quality vs some salesperson at a MAC or Sephora. About 6 months ago, I went to Shara for a makeup lesson and it honestly felt like I was spending the day with a friend (who happened to be amazing with makeup!). When my engagement party rolled around last weekend, I knew I had to go back to have my makeup done. I had just come from a salon on the Upper East Side after having my hair blown out and was seriously disappointed with the results. It looked no better than what i could have done myself... well, once Shara got to work, no one would even notice what my hair looked like! the miracles she works i can't even begin to explain. The entire night, everyone continued to tell me how amazing my makeup looked and I have a feeling Shara will be getting some new clients in the coming months ;) Not only did Shara spend over an hour perfecting my look for a very special night to me, but she spoke with someone in the salon they're located in and asked them to fix my hair. I then had someone in the salon redo my hair all because Shara really cares that much about her clients. 5 stars doesn't do this review justice. Had a 90 minute makeup class with Danielle and I am simply thrilled. She was so sweet and encouraging. A true professional in every sense of the word. Wasn't sure what this experience would be like so I took along some of my basic makeup and what I absolutely loved is that she incorporated my own makeup products into the entire process. Never once did I feel pressured to purchase anything at all and it was quite refreshing. Danielle wad patient with me, she did one half of my face while I looked on with a hand mirror and she explained every single detail. She then had me do the other half while guiding me in proper techniques so that in the end my face looked flawless. I was floored, hsppy, amazed and felt beautiful! I ended up buying a few items that I adored and could not live without! Thank you Danielle for being sure an amazing makeup artist. My co-worker and I bought a Groupon for a makeup session. I'm a makeup junkie and follow a number of YouTube channels and bloggers. I basically study makeup as a hobby. My main goal was to learn how to perfect the smokey eye. I wasn't sure what to expect when I arrived at a posh hotel but they exceeded my expectations. They were very nice about us coming 15 minutes late. They have a small, cozy room near the salon with great lighting. I got Danielle who was bright and upbeat with a downtown girl esthetic. She went through my makeup bag and asked me what I wanted to accomplish. She went on to give me a number of pointers which initially I thought I wouldn't learn anything new but I was wrong. She did use a number of Shara products on my face as well as a few of my products. I own a plethora of makeup from a number of high-end makeup lines but the one product that stood out for me was the primer. I might order it online. She recapped the lesson at the end of the appt and gave me an instruction list. There was absolutely no pressure to buy any of the products which I absolutely loved. I highly recommend them for a lesson whether you're a beginner or advanced make-up novice. read more
